  • Recently Korea Army developed the TICN which is the next army tactical communication system. The TICN will support ability from under environment, strategy maneuver communication system of integrated army dimension overcome and NCW. If the IER(Information Exchange Requirement) phases 3 of the future application system, the analysis that a transmission ability of the TICN is the uncapable is govern. The TICN tactical backbone's ability is very important. Therefore, network efficiency index in application and analysis of the standard protocol for the data transmission guarantee are obliged. For the TICN tactical backbone, this paper analyzes of routing protocol efficiency index and compares to superiority of the OSPF(v2) and integrated IS-IS protocols in the tactical environment. Conclusively we proposed that integrated IS-IS protocol is more suitable for TICN backbone routing protocol.

  • Recently, the military of Korea has been establishing the next generation wireless tactical communication system so called Tactical Information Communication Network (TICN). A routing protocol for TICN transport networks has to be able to select a path with high survivality, reliability, and stability while accommodating as many flows as possible with minimum QoS guarantees. The OSPF(Open Short Path First) used widely is determined to be the routing protocol for TICN. With the typical deployment practices OSPF, however, it cannot satisfy the requirements of TICN. In this paper, we propose a cost function for OSPF and a way to tune the OSPF protocol parameters for the TICN transport networks. Through simulations, it is shown that the OSPF with the proposed cost function provides better performance than the OSPF in terms of both the services provided to the applications and the network resources utilization.

  • The Army has developed the concept of terrestrial warfare in conjunction with the Joint Concept and has introduced TICN as the base communication system to support it. TICN has been used to improve the transmission speed and to increase the coverage distance. Through this, TICN is making efforts to create network-centered operation environment so that information can be distributed in real time or near real time from the monitoring system to the hitting system. However, TICN is not enough to overcome the network limitations that may arise from various contingencies in battlefield situations. Therefore, in this paper, we investigated the limitations of communication according to the situations that can occur in the battlefield situation and studied the considerations to overcome them.

  • Military communications have limited resources such as poor bandwidth and insufficient link capacity. Numerous hosts in conventional IP networks, including the Tactical Information Communication Network (TICN), the tactical communication system of the Army, focus heavy traffic on a single server via end-to-end connections and in which data delivery latency is caused by exchanging routing information. Content-Centric Networking (CCN), one framework of Information-Centric Networking (ICN), is a novel Internet paradigm in which data can be accessed by the name of the content instead of the location information. This paper provides content caching strategies for applying CCN to military tactical IP networks based on TICN environment.

  • A next generation military communication system called Tactical Information Communication Network(TICN) is designed to advance into large capacity, high speed, and long distance wireless relay transmission. To support mobility in battlefield, the application of Ad-hoc networking technology to its wireless communication is being considered. In Ad-hoc network, the key management technique is very important to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and authentication. In this paper, we propose a new hybrid key management scheme considering the hierarchical characteristics of the tactical ad-hoc such as TICN. For upper layer with sufficient energy and computation capability, we apply PKI based key management scheme. For lower layer with restricted resources, we propose a new key management scheme using the location-based authentication to ensure the energy efficiency.

  • A leased line modem usability was evaluated and investigated in the wireless internet protocol(IP) network. The signal of the modem in the circuit switching network was translated to IP packet by using several voice codecs (PCM, G.711A, $G.711{\mu}$, and etc.) and transmitted through the wireless IP network. The wireless IP network was simulated by the Tactical information and communication network Modeling and simulation Software(TMS). The performance and usability of the leased line modem are simulated using the system-in-the-loop(SITL) function of TMS with respect to packet delay, jitter, packet discard ratio, codecs, and wireless link BER.

  • Tactical Information Communication Network(TICN) uses both a wireless and wired network. To support mobility in battlefield environments, the application of Ad-hoc networking technology to its wireless communication has been examined. However, Ad-hoc network is faced to many security threats due to its intrinsic characteristics. Therefore, to apply the Ad-hoc networking technology to battlefield environments and TICN, an intensive study on security countermeasure must go side by side with the development of enabling technology. In this paper, we suggest an efficient key management scheme for TICN of which the Ad-hoc networking technology is applied.

  • TMMR(Tactical Multiband Multirole Radio) is one of the important equipments for TICN which is our next military tactical communication system and it supplies to the distribution of traffic of C2(Command & Control) and SA(Situation Awareness) for unit of Brigade and below. In this paper, we define the tactical needs of military communication, and evaluate MANET(Mobile Ad-hoc Network) protocol for the future digital battle-field through performance comparison with a network simulator.
