Effect of two way thermal hydraulic-fuel performance coupling on multicycle depletion

  • A Multiphysics coupling framework, MPCORE, has been developed to analyze safety parameters using the best estimate codes. The framework contains neutron kinetics (NK), thermal hydraulics (TH), and fuel performance (FP) codes to analyze fuel burnup, radial power distribution, and coolant temperature (Tbc). Shuffling and rotation capabilities have been verified on the Watts Bar reactor for three cycles. This study focuses on two coupling approaches for TH and FP modules. The one-way coupling approach involves coupling the FP code with the NK code, providing no data to the TH modules but getting Tbc as boundary condition from TH module. The two-way coupling approach exchanges information from FP to TH modules, so that the simplified heat conduction solver of the TH module is not used. The power profile in both approaches does not differ significantly, but there is an impact on coolant and cladding parameters. The one-way coupling approach tends to over-predict the cladding hydrogen concentration (CHC). This research highlights the difference between one-way and two-way coupling on critical boron concentration, Tbc, CHC, oxide surface temperature, and pellet centerline temperature. Overall, MPCORE framework with two-way coupling provides a more accurate and reliable analysis of safety parameters for nuclear reactors.

Robust Two-Phase Clock Oxide TFT Shift Register over Threshold Voltage Variation and Clock Coupling Noises

  • This letter describes a two-phase clock oxide thin-film transistor shift register that executes a robust operation over a wide threshold voltage range and clock coupling noises. The proposed circuit employs an additional Q generation block to avoid the clock coupling noise effects. A SMART-SPICE simulation shows that the stable shift register operation is established for the clock coupling noises and the threshold voltage variation from -4 V to 5 V at a line time of $5{\mu}s$. The magnitude of coupling noises on the Q(15) node and Qb(15) node of the 15th stage is respectively -12.6 dB and -26.1 dB at 100 kHz in the proposed circuit, compared to 6.8 dB and 10.9 dB in a conventional one. In addition, the estimated power consumption is 1.74 mW for the proposed 16-stage shift registers at $V_{TH}=-1.56V$, compared to 11.5 mW for the conventional circuits.

  • 이중모드 비대칭 canonical 구조 필터는 일반적으로 위성 중계기의 입력 멀티플렉서에 주로 사용된다. 본 논문에서는 비대칭형 canonical 필터의 용이한 합성 방법에 대하여 언급하였다. 비대칭형 canonical 필터의 결합행렬은 대칭형 canonical 필터의 결합 행렬로부터 평면 회전(plane rotation)과 같은 similarity transformation을 이용하여 구하였다. 비대칭형 canonical 필터의 결합 행렬을 구하기 위한 similarity transformation 과정에 있어서 회전 순서, 피벗(pivot), 회전각을 제시하였다. 본 논문에서 제시한 방법을 이용하여 8차 및 10차 비대칭 canonical filter의 결합 행렬을 추출하였으며, 비대칭형 canonical 필터의 주파수 응답 특성은 대칭형 canonical 필터의 주파수 응답 특성과 동일한 특성을 나타내었다.

Simulations of BEAVRS benchmark cycle 2 depletion with MCS/CTF coupling system

  • The quarter-core simulation of BEAVRS Cycle 2 depletion benchmark has been conducted using the MCS/CTF coupling system. MCS/CTF is a cycle-wise Picard iteration based inner-coupling code system, which couples sub-channel T/H (thermal/hydraulic) code CTF as a T/H solver in Monte Carlo neutron transport code MCS. This coupling code system has been previously applied in the BEAVRS benchmark Cycle 1 full-core simulation. The Cycle 2 depletion has been performed with T/H feedback based on the spent fuel materials composition pre-generated by the Cycle 1 depletion simulation using refueling capability of MCS code. Meanwhile, the MCS internal one-dimension T/H solver (MCS/TH1D) has been also applied in the simulation as the reference. In this paper, an analysis of the detailed criticality boron concentration and the axially integrated assembly-wise detector signals will be presented and compared with measured data based on the real operating physical conditions. Moreover, the MCS/CTF simulated results for neutronics and T/H parameters will be also compared to MCS/TH1D to figure out their difference, which proves the practical application of MCS into the BEAVRS benchmark two-cycle depletion simulations.

Analysis of the performances of the CFD schemes used for coupling computation

  • In this paper, the coupling of fine-mesh computational fluid dynamics (CFD) thermal-hydraulics (TH) code and neutronics code is achieved using the Ansys Fluent User Defined Function (UDF) for code development, including parallel meshing mapping, data computation, and data transfer. Also, some CFD schemes are designed for mesh mapping and data transfer to guarantee physical conservation in the coupling computation. Because there is no rigorous research that gives robust guidance on the various CFD schemes that must be obtained before the fine-mesh coupling computation, this work presents a quantitative analysis of the CFD meshing and mapping schemes to improve the accuracy of the value and location of key physical prediction. Furthermore, the effect of the sub-pin scale coupling computation is also studied. It is observed that even the pin-resolved coupling computation can also create a large deviation in the maximum value and spatial locations, which also proves the significance of the research on mesh mapping and data transfer for CFD code in a coupling computation.

Rotation-Free Transformation of the Coupling Matrix with Genetic Algorithm-Error Minimizing Pertaining Transfer Functions

  • A novel Genetic Algorithm(GA)-based method is suggested to transform a coupling matrix to another, without the procedure of Matrix Rotation. This can remove tedious work like pivoting and deciding rotation angles needed for each of the iterations. The error function for the GA is simply formed and used as part of error minimization for obtaining the solution. An 8th order dual-mode elliptic integral function response filter is taken as an example to validate the present method.

  • The coupling coefficient K controls the characteristic behaviors of leakage transformer. The value of coupling coefficient K was obtained from th leakage flux of leakage transformer an ascertained from the variation due to the function of current. Therefore, this paper presented the equivalent circuit of leakage transformer consisting of Thevenin's constant voltage source and inductor as (1-K2)L2 which were proportional to parameter K. The proposed equivalent circuit verified the validity in designing the leakage transformer because it was in good agreements of the behaviors of ideal transformer (K is 1), leakage transformer (K is 0$\leq$K$\leq$1), inductor (K is 0).

  • A new method is presented to design RF filters without the Similarity Transform of their coupling coefficient matrix as circuit parameters which is very tedious due to pivoting and deciding rotation angles needed during the iterations. The transfer function of a filter is directly used for the design and its desired form is derived by the optimized rational-function fitting technique. A 3rd order Coaxial Lowpass filter and an 8th order dual-mode elliptic integral function response filter are taken as an example to validate the proposed method.

  • 균질대지에서 시간영역 유도분극탐사를 실시할 때 생기는 전자기결합의 영향을 간단히 계산할 수 있는 해를 구하였다. 여기서 유도한 근사해는 시간영역의 전자기결합에 모델변수가 얼마 만큼영향을 미치는지를 쉽게 이해할 수 있으며, 또한 실제 상황에서 충분히 사용할 수 있는 정확도를 가지고 있다. 본논문에서는 쌓극자 및 Wenner 배치만을 다루웠지만, 이 근사해는 모든 전극배치에 대하여 유용하다.

병렬전단벽의 강도와 강성이 커플링보의 설계내력에 미치는 영향 (Design Strength of Coupled Shear Wall System according to Variation of Strength and Stiffness of Coupled Shear Wall)

  • 본 연구에서는 초고층건물의 횡력저항 구조형식으로 널리 사용되는 병렬전단벽-커플링보 구조시스템에서 전단벽의 강도, 강성이 커플링보의 설계 강도에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 커플링보에 발생하는 설계내력은 코어벽체의 두께와 콘크리트의 강도가 변하더라도 층별 설계내력은 유사한 경향을 보이고 있으며, 벽체 콘크리트 강도와 두께에 따라 커플링보에 발생하는 외력은 다소 감소하는 경향이 있다. 커플링보의 설계내력은 6개 모델 전부 40층 건물에서, 10층에서 15층의 범위에서 가장 높게 발생하고 있음을 알 수 있다. 즉, 병렬전단벽의 휨변형 변곡점이 형성되는 건물높이의 0.25H~0.375H 위치에서 최대 부재력이 발생한다. 벽체두께가 증가 할수록 코어내부의 커플링보의 발생 외력은 점차 증가하는 것으로 확인되었다. 또한 벽체 두께가 두꺼워질수록 벽체의 콘크리트 강도 증가에 따른 커플링보의 부재력 변화는 적게 나타나는데, 이는 벽체 두께가 두꺼우므로 콘크리트 강도변화의 영향이 적게 미치는 것으로 분석된다. 병렬전단벽의 두께증가는 콘크리트의 강도증가보다 강성변화에 큰 영향을 미치고, 이에 따라 커플링보의 부재력 변화에도 더 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석된다.
