Driving Methods of LCD-TV Using a-Si:H TFT Integrated Gate Drivers

  • LCD-TV applications were successfully implemented using integrated gate drivers. Integrated gate drivers have been implemented on a HD panel for 60Hz operation and on a FHD panel for 120Hz operation. It is found that the integrated gate driver reduces the flicker of a panel.

Single cell gap polymer-stabilized blue-phase transflective LCDs using internal nanowire grid polarizer

  • Optically isotropic liquid crystal (LC) mixture such as blue-phase LC and nanostructured LC composites exhibit the advantages of fast response time, high contrast ratio and wide-viewing angle due to the induced birefringence along the horizontal electric field. Utilizing this mixture, a novel single cell gap in-plane switching-type polymer-stabilized blue-phase transflective liquid crystal display by embedding the nanowire grid polarizer as a polarization-dependent reflective polarizer in the R region is proposed. This device can be used as a normal black mode without any quarter-wave plate or patterned in-cell phase retarder. Moreover, the transmittance is identical to the reflectance so that it will be suitable for single gamma driving. Detailed electro-optic performances, such as voltage-dependent light efficiency and viewing angle of the proposed device configuration, are investigated.

Visual Perception for TCO'03 Angular-Dependence Luminance Uniformity of TFT-LCDs

  • Due to the stricter requests of the human perception of images, many industrial standards such as TCO'03 have been made to survey the Flat Panel Displays (FPD) nowadays. The angular-dependence luminance uniformity is an important item to evaluate the performance of FPD. In this article, we focus on the above test item base on TCO'03 standard in the case of vertical direction of ${\pm}15^{\circ}$. With controlling the driving voltage toward the liquid crystals of TN-type TFT-LCD, there exists a voltage-driving range which can achieve the value of the $L_{max}/L_{min}$ at ${\pm}15^{\circ}\;{\leq}1.7$ readily. Both experiment and simulation have been well analysis.

피에조를 이용한 코로나 방전과 펄스교류 코로나 방전을 이용한 정전기 제거장치의 비교 연구 (A Comparative Study on the Electrostatic Eliminator of Piezo Type Ionizer and Pulse AC Corona Type Ionizer)

  • Ionizer is used for improving manufacturing process and reducing inferior goods in the clean room. As a general rule, neutralization of the electrostatic charge is most important to make TFT-LCD, PDP and OLED. Pulse AC-static eliminator with output voltage of about 10.5kV has been used these days as neutralization device. But this device has a problem with lower performance which was caused by particles-adhesion on the electrode when it has been used for a long time. So we studied to solve the problem with lower performance using high Frequency(72kHz) static eliminator which was produced by Piezo transformer device, and compared Pulse-AC type with Piezo-electronic device such as decay time and ion balance for 10 weeks periods. As a result of this study, we found that Piezo transformer device has been maintained normal condition for 10 weeks. Also, we made the rule by this study, normally Piezo transformer device has to clean the electrode during every 11th weeks.

  • n+ etching process is investigated in the fabrication of TFF-LCD using low resistance data line of Mo/Al/Mo. Problems of consumption of upper Mo layer and contamination of channel area are resolved. Either of HCl or $Cl_2$ can be selected as a main etchant gas, and either of $SF_6$ or $CF_4$ can be selected as an additive. Plasma treatment after n+ etching process can reduce the off-current high problem.

  • Linear kink effect (LKE) induced mainly by selfheating on the reliability of divided channel poly-Si TFTs has been studied. The LKE was enhanced for compact designed structure to achieve narrow bezel, which was explained by the difference in heat dissipation capability, thus self-heating immunity in TFT.

  • A negative photoresist formulation was developed utilizing synthesized UV monomers containing imide linkage, photoinitiator, UV oligomer, and alkali developable polymer matrix. It was found that via-holes with good resolution, high transmittance and thermal resistance could be obtained by photolithographic process utilizing the negative-type photoresist formulations.

  • 전원이나 CPU 같은 컴퓨팅 자원의 제약을 받는 임베디드 시스템의 경우, 데이터의 컴퓨터 화면 디스플레이로 인한 오버헤드는 시스템의 성능에 지대한 영향을 줄 수 있다. 본 논문은 ARM9 방식의 S3C2440A 마이크로프로세서가 내장된 LN2440SBC 시스템에서, LCD(liquid crystal display)의 구동을 위해 필요한 ARM 코어, LCD 컨트롤러, SPI(serial peripheral interface) 같은 LCD-구동 요소들의 초기화 방법을 설명한다. 또한 픽셀 디스플레이 함수와 디스플레이로 인한 오버헤드를 줄이기 위한 가상스크린을 이용한 디스플레이 방법을 소개한다. 가상스크린은 한 LCD 화면 디스플레이에 필요한 메모리 용량보다 매우 큰 용량의 메모리 공간으로서, 가상스크린 내의 특정 영역 디스플레이는 그 영역을 뷰포트(view port) 영역으로 지정함으로서 행해진다. 이 같은 가상스크린을 이용한 디스플레이는 임베디드 시스템에서 동시에 수행되는 여러 태스크들이 자신의 수행 결과를 생성하고 그 결과를 각기 화면에 출력하는 경우에 유용하며, 특히 각 태스크의 수행 결과 데이터가 모두 변경되지 않고 일부분만 변경되어 디스플레이 되는 경우에 더욱 그러하다. 이런 임베디드 시스템의 경우, 각 태스크들이 가상스크린의 메모리 영역을 효율적으로 나누어 사용할 경우 디스플레이 오버헤드를 최소화 할 수 있다. 가상스크린을 사용하는 경우와 아닌 경우의 성능 비교를 위해 두 개의 다른 이미지를 번갈아 가며 디스플레이하고 소요 시간을 측정했다. 그 결과 가상 스크린을 사용할 경우가 그렇지 않은 경우에 비해 약 5배의 빠른 출력 속도를 보인다.

  • CMOS LCD driving circuits using poly-Si TFT have been designed and basic blocks including test patterns have been fabricated. Column driver drives the pixels by block because polu-Si TFT can not operate at the speed of video signal. Row driver has mode selection circuit which can select a mode between interlacing mode and non-interlacing mode. Experimental results show shift register can operate at 1MHz colck frequency with 4pF load.

  • We developed the advanced LTPS (A-LTPS) manufacturing process. The a-Si TFT process was combined with selectively enlarging laser crystallization (SELAX) technology to improve the carrier mobility in the region where the peripheral circuits are to be fabricated. A 2.4-inch IPS-pro LCD panel for personal digital assistant use was successfully fabricated using the developed technology.
