  • The aim of this study is to investigate the traditional manufacturing technique of lacquering by comparing and analyzing materials used for wooden lacquerware artifacts with focus on the Joseon dynasty Eugye, and to apply the manufacturing technique to the conservation treatment of the lacquerware. artifacts. This study conducted the documentary survey focusing on "Yongjo Jeongsun Queen Consort Garye Dogam Eugye",and "Jeongjo Gukjang Dogam Eugye." The royal lacquering is roughly classified into three categories-scarlet lacquering, quality black lacquering, and terra rosa lacquering- according to materials used for lacquerware. The bean flour was mostly used for under lacquering of the articles which was offered to the king and in case of other articles, bean flour was used mixed with bone ashes. In some cases, burned pine soot was added to under lacquering. Japanese scarlet lacquering was applied by mixing maechil-main coat, in inverted commas- with Japenese scarlet after lacquering jeonchil-base coat, in inverted commas-. In case of Chinese scarlet lacquering, part of terra rosa was used mixed with red clay. For quality black lacquering, basically jeonchil and maechil were used, but sometimes part of burned pine soot was added. In addition, terra rosa lacquering was applied by basically using terra rosa mixed with red clay. Lastly, gloss was given by using perilla oil. It is expected that the traditional materials and technique examined through both documentary and relic research will contribute to advanced result of the conservation treatment of wooden lacqueringware artifacts.

  • Vicarious calibration for the satellite sensor relies on simulated TOA (Top-of-Atmosphere) radiances over various targets. In this study, TOA visible radiance was calculated over ocean targets which are located in five different regions over the Indian and Pacific ocean, and its possible use for the satellite sensor calibration was examined. TOA radiances are simulated with the 6S radiative transfer model for the comparison with MODIS/Terra and SeaWiFS measurements. Geometric angles and sensor characteristics of the reference satellites were taken into account for the simulation. AOT (Aerosol Optical Thickness) from MODIS/Terra, pigment concentrations from Sea WiFS, and ozone amount from OMI measurements were used as inputs to the model. Other atmospheric input parameters such as surface wind and total column water vapor were taken from NCEP/NCAR reanalysis data. The 5-day averaged radiances over all targets show that the percent differences between simulated and observed radiances are within about ${\pm}5%$ in year 2005, indicating that the calculated radiances are in good agreement with satellite measurements. It has also been shown that the algorithm can produce the SeaWiFS radiances within about ${\pm}5%$ uncertainty range. It has been suggested that the algorithm can be used as a tool for calibrating the VIS bands within about 5% uncertainty range.

  • To extract the 3D geometric information from SAR(Synthetic Aperture Radar) images, two different techniques, interferometric SAR and radargrammetry, have been widely used. InSAR is most widely used for the generation of precise DEM(Digital Elevation Model) until now. But, Interferometric SAR requires severe temporal correlation over areas covered with vegetation and high relief areas. Because radargrammetry is less sensible to temporal correlation, it can provide better results than interferometric SAR in certain, especially X-band SAR. In this paper, we assess the properties of DEMs generated by radargrammetry using stereo C-band RADARSAT-1 images and X-band TerraSAR-X images.

  • In this work, the temperature dependence of electrical parameters of nanoscale SOI (silicon-on-insulator) TG (triple gate) n-FinFET (n-channel Fin field effect transistor) was investigated. Numerical device simulator $ATLAS^{TM}$ was used to construct, examine, and simulate the structure in three dimensions with different models. The drain current, transconductance, threshold voltage, subthreshold swing, leakage current, drain induced barrier lowering, and on/off current ratio were studied in various biasing configurations. The temperature dependence of the main electrical parameters of a SOI TG n-FinFET was analyzed and discussed. Increased temperature led to degraded performance of some basic parameters such as subthreshold swing, transconductance, on-current, and leakage current. These results might be useful for further development of devises to strongly down-scale the manufacturing process.

  • For the safety of sea, it is important to monitor sea fog, one of the dangerous meteorological phenomena which cause marine accidents. To detect and monitor sea fog, Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) data which is capable to provide spatial distribution of sea fog has been used. The previous automatic sea fog detection algorithms were focused on detecting sea fog using Terra/MODIS only. The improved algorithm is based on the sea fog detection algorithm by Wu and Li (2014) and it is applicable to both Terra and Aqua MODIS data. We have focused on detecting spring season sea fog events in the Yellow Sea. The algorithm includes application of cloud mask product, the Normalized Difference Snow Index (NDSI), the STandard Deviation test using infrared channel ($STD_{IR}$) with various window size, Temperature Difference Index(TDI) in the algorithm (BTCT - SST) and Normalized Water Vapor Index (NWVI). Through the calculation of the Hanssen-Kuiper Skill Score (KSS) using sea fog manual detection result, we derived more suitable threshold for each index. The adjusted threshold is expected to bring higher accuracy of sea fog detection for spring season daytime sea fog detection using MODIS in the Yellow Sea.

  • The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Earth Observing System (EOS) Terra and Aqua satellites, launched in 1999 and 2002, is directly received by Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) ground station facility. BURI engineers develop a system to receive direct broadcast downlink from MODIS to provide near-realtime, remotely-sensed, spaceborne data to the user community in Korea. MODIS scans a swath width of 2330 km that is sufficiently wide to cover Korean peninsular, Yellow and East Sea at once. The MODIS has 36 spectral bands between 0.415 fm and 14.235 $\mu$m, i.e. through the visible into the thermal infrared. MODIS has been observed active fires, floods, smoke transport, dust storms, severe storms since February of 2000. The KARI is preparing for distribution of direct broadcasted MODIS data to users in Korea. The MODIS database system will be designed and developed by KARI engineer for data service from year of 2003. MODIS data user group will be organized from $\.{O}$ctober to December 2002.

  • Development of diurnal warming in the open Okhotsk Sea during the daytime and calm conditions was studied using sea surface temperature (SST) fields retrieved from NOAA AVHRR, Terra and Aqua MODIS, Aqua AMSR-E and ADEOS-II AMSR data. Sea surface wind fields were estimated from AMSR-E/AMSR measurements as well as were obtained from QuikSCAT scatterometer. Weak winds and cloudless conditions were observed in the central area of anticyclone, which moved slowly on 28-30 June 2003 east off Sakhalin. The area where the amplitude of the diurnal SST signal ${\Delta}T$ was significant also shifted slowly and had or circular or elongated shape. The ${\Delta}T$ was estimated relative to the SST values in the areas surrounding the centre of anticyclone where wind speed W exceeded 5- 6 m/s. The diurnal variations of SST, day-night differences were computed using NOAA-12 and NOAA-16 AVHRRderived data. Analysis of simultaneous SST and W fields showed that the increase of W from 0 to 5-6 m/s causes the decrease of ${\Delta}T$ to zero. Maximum warming exceeded $8^{\circ}C$ and was observed in the centre of anticyclone where W = 0 m/s. So strong heating was likely due to the increased chlorophyll a concentration in the area under study that follows from analysis of satellite ocean colour data.

  • This paper presents TerraSAR-X and KOMPSAT-5 sigma nought variation according to season and antenna observation configuration in Mongolia. Two types of landcover including bare surface and cropland were examined. The seasonal variation of sigma nought in cropland was about 7 dB and particularly a significant sigma nought reduction occurred after harvest. On the contrary, the Mongolia bare surface provides a consistent sigma nought values for several years with an annual variation less than 2.5 dB of standard deviation. However, the bare soil was relatively sensitive to look-direction (or ascending or descending mode) as well as incidence angle while the cropland was almost independent of antenna look-direction and small incidence angle changes. Although the look-directional variation of bare surface sigma nought was observed in this study, the look-direction anisotropic nature of the surface was not well examined. A further study would be required to account for this feature with various SAR observation configurations.

  • This study is to estimate the spatial soil moisture using multiple linear regression model (MLRM) and 15 minutes interval Land Surface Temperature (LST) data of Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite (COMS). For the modeling, the input data of COMS LST, Terra MODIS Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), daily rainfall and sunshine hour were considered and prepared. Using the observed soil moisture data at 9 stations of Automated Agriculture Observing System (AAOS) from January 2013 to May 2015, the MLRMs were developed by twelve scenarios of input components combination. The model results showed that the correlation between observed and modelled soil moisture increased when using antecedent rainfalls before the soil moisture simulation day. In addition, the correlation increased more when the model coefficients were evaluated by seasonal base. This was from the reverse correlation between MODIS NDVI and soil moisture in spring and autumn season.
