This study aimed to assay the biological removal of TDS (total dissolved solids) from RO (reverse osmosis) rejected water. Following bio-sorption of TDS with AGS (aerobic granular sludge), the effects of TDS on biological nitrogen removal were examined. The bio-sorption of TDS after AGS treatment was confirmed by checking for TDS removal efficiency and surface analysis of microorganisms with SEM and EDS. Then, the effects of TDS on biological nitrogen removal and the denitrification efficiency were evaluated using the MBR reactor. According to the results, the bio-sorption of TDS with AGS was 0.1 mg TDS/mg AGS, and we confirmed that the microorganism surfaces had adsorbed the TDS. Biological nitrogen removal efficiency was measured at inhibiting denitrification at 4,000 mg/L of TDS-injected material. Based on this study, it is necessary to pretreat TDS-containing RO rejected water and to maintain TDS concentration lower than a specific value (≤4,000 mg/L), when considering biological nitrogen removal.

This study was to improve cosmetical activity of thiamine di-lauryl sulfate (TDS) by encapsulation of nanoparticle with lecithin. Results showed that most of the nanoparticles containing the TDS were well formed in round shape with below 150 ~ 200 nm diameter as well as they were fairly stable in various pH ranges by measuring zeta potentials. The nanoparticles of TDS resulted in 85% cell viability of human normal fibroblast cells (CCD-986sk) when added at the highest concentration (1.0 mg/mL). The nanoparticles of Acer mono sap showed highest free radical scavengering effect as 88.1% in adding sample (1.0 mg/mL), compared to TDS solution of non-encapsulation (81.6%). The nanoparticles of TDS reduced the expression of MMP-1 on UV-irradiated CCD-986sk cells down to as 41.4%. The TDS solution and nanoparticles showed significant anti-microbial activities agaionst the salmonella typhimurium and listeria monocytogenes at 5 and 6 days as compared with control. Anti-microbial activities of TDS nanoparticles were similar to positive control. These results indicated that TDS nanoparticles may be a source for functional cosmetic agents capable of improving cosmetical activity such as antioxidant, whitening, and anti-wrinkling effects and can be further developed as natural preservative in cosmetics.
Water purifiers have a quite different characteristic in comparison with general membrane water treatment processes in which the running and resting are repeated dozens of times a day. In the case of water purifiers using reverse osmosis membranes, this characteristic makes a phenomenon that the total dissolved solids (TDS) of permeate in water purifiers at the beginning of running shows a higher value than a normal value (TDS reduction is lower than a normal value). It is called "TDS creep". The effects of resting times and feed concentrations on the TDS creep were investigated. The feed flushing, the volume increase in permeate side and the flushing with purified water were applied to reduce TDS creep and the effectiveness were observed. Among these trials, the minimization of concentration between feed and permeate side of reverse osmosis membrane like the flushing with purified water can be an ultimate solution to reduce the TDS creep.

Conventional Thiamine Dilauryl Sulfate (TDS) powder has a low stability. In order to solve this problem, this study was performed to improve the solubility of TDS. The process for enhance solubility of TDS was nano grinding mill and ultrasonic dispersion process. TDS paticle was manufactured to nano size through nano grinding mill process. The size of TDS nanoparticle was measured as average 220 nm by DLS. And The TDS nanoparticle in water solution manufactured through ultrasonic dispersion process. The TDS nanoparticle in water solution was showed the highest solubility with 40% ethanol. These results was increased the concentration of TDS from 200 ppm to 240 ppm in water solution. The TDS nanoparticle in water solution showed diameter of Colletotrichum gloeosporioides growth with smaller than about 1.56 cm compared to the TDS paticle in water solution at same concentration. Also, TDS nanoparticle in water solution showed growth inhibition activity as 59.2% with higher than about 10% compared to the TDS paticle water solution in same concentration. Finally, TDS nanoparticle in water solution was increased solubility through nano grinding mill and ultrasonic dispersion process. Also, the increase of concentration in TDS nanopaticle in water solution according to solubility enhancement lead to an result enhancement of antifungal activity. Consequently, we suggested that the TDS nanoparticle in water solution was more effective than TDS particle in water solution owing to the sub-cellular particle size, ability to persistence and targeting to cell membrane of Colletotrichum gloeosporioides. Furthermore we expected the applicating possibility with bio pesticide.

Using UF-SWRO hybrid process, pre-blending tests of seawater and brackish water were performed to investigate the effects on removal of boron and humic acid (HA). Feedwater pre-blending was set based on TDS concentration from 15,000 mg/L to 27,000 mg/L and analyzed for boron removal characteristics. Also organics rejection at same TDS concentration range was investigated by injecting HA. Boron concentration appeared to be high as TDS concentration was high ranging from 76.60% to 83.27%, but boron concentration in final produced water was increased up to 0.69 mg/L from 0.48 mg/L. In cases of HA tests at 10 mg/L, 22,500 mg/L TDS appeared to be higher removal rate of 17.59% than a very poor result of 8.43% in 27,000 mg/L. But high HA removal rate of 57.14% was obtained in produced water with 22,500 mg/L TDS containing 10 mg/L of HA and 27,000 mg/L TDS yielded lower boron removal rate of 54.49%. Meanwhile it was found that a relatively high flux and recovery rate were obtained following process when feedwater was injected with HA. It is considered that most of fouling substances were eliminated by binding between HA and $Ca^{2+}$. Thus, when desalination using UF-SWRO with respect to boron and HA, TDS concentration is determined to be advantageous as lower.

Groundwater qualities in Nakdong river region were investigated during 1999 and 2000. Groundwater samples were collected twice from about 150 sites over the region. The EC and TDS obtained in first survey (October, 1999) show rather high values than those in second survey(April, 2000) and this seems to be caused by groundwater temperature. There is obvious positive correlation between EC and TDS. For the study area, the following equation can be written : TDS(mg/l) = <0.64~0.70> x EC($mutextrm{s}$/cm). As the concentration of major ions increases in natural condition, there is a tendency that the ratio of TDS and EC has consistent value. This observation suggests that TDS measurement can be replaced by EC measurement in the some ranges.
Distributed Memory Machine(DMM) is necessary for the effective computation of the data which is complicated and very large. Task scheduling is a method that reduces the communication time among tasks to reduce the total execution time of application program and is very important for the improvement of DMM. Task Duplicated based Scheduling(TDS) method improves execution time by reducing communication time of tasks. It uses clustering method which schedules tasks of the large communication time on the same processor. But there is a problem that cannot optimize communication time between task sending data and task receiving data. Hence, this paper proposes a new method which solves the above problem in TDS. Modified Task Duplicated based Scheduling(MTDS) method which can approximately optimize the communication time between task sending data and task receiving data by checking the optimal condition, resulted in the minimization of task execution time by reducing the communication time among tasks. Also system modeling shows that task execution time of MTDS is about 70% faster than that of TDS in the best case and the same as the result of TDS in the worst case. It proves that MTDS method is better than TDS method.
Recently, various researches have been studied, such as water treatment, water reuse, and seawater desalination using CDI (Capacitive deionization) technology. Also, applications like MCDI (Membrane capacitive deionization), FCDI (Flow-capacitive deionization), and hybrid CDI have been actively studied. This study tried to investigate various factors by an experiment on the TDS (Total dissolved solids) removal characteristics using MCDI module in aqueous solution. As a result of the TDS concentration of feed water from 500 to 2,000 mg/L, the MCDI cell broke through faster when the higher TDS concentration. In the case of TDS concentration according to the various flow rate, 100 mL/min was stable. In addition, there was no significant difference in the desorption efficiency according to the TDS concentration and method of backwash water used for desorption. As a result of using concentrated water for desorption, stable adsorption efficiency was shown. In the case of the MCDI module, the ions of the bulk solution which is escaped from the MCDI cell to the spacer during the desorption process are more important than the concentration of ions during desorption. Therefore, the MCDI process can get a larger amount of treated water than the CDI process. Also, prepare a plan that can be operated insensitive to the TDS concentration of backwash water for desorption.
It is concluded from this study that human consumption of very low TDS water does not leach minerals from the body that cause ill health effects because; -The human body's own control mechanism of homeostasis and internal body secretions keep tight controls on body fluid composition regardless of drinking water TDS for a normal person under normal csonditions. -The unofficial WHO document's proposed guideline of a 100m/l lower limit for drinking water due to mineral leaching and subsequent ill health was not found to be scientifically or physiologically credible. Leaching of minerals from the body is not officially recognized by WHO. -The experience of the U.S. Navy, Army, NASA and dommunity demonstrations do not support ill health symptoms caused by consumption of low TDS drinking water. -Millions of people regularly consume maturally occurring low TDS water without symptoms of ill health.
Over the past decade the experimental technique of THz time domain spectroscopy (㎔- TDS) has proved to be a versatile method for investigating a wide range of phenomena in the ㎔ or far infrared spectral region from 100 ㎓ to 5 ㎔. This paper reviews some recent results of the Ultrafast ㎔ Research Group at Oklahoma State University using ㎔-TDS as a characterization tool. The experimental technique is described along with recent results on ㎔ beam propagation and how ㎔ beam profiles arise from propagation of pulse fronts along caustics. To illustrate how spatio-temporal electric field measurements can determine material properties over a wide spectral range, propagation of ㎔ pulses through systems exhibiting frustrated total internal reflection (FTIR) are reviewed. Finally two potential metrology applications of ㎔-TDS are discussed, thin film characterization and non-destructive evaluation of ceramics. Although ㎔-TDS has been confined to the research laboratory, the focus on application may stimulate the adoption of ㎔- TDS for industrial or metrology applications.
