Extended Indications of Bilhaut-Cloquet Procedure for Type III and IV of Duplicated Thumb (무지 다지증 III, IV형의 치료에 Bilhaut-Cloquet 방법의 적극적 이용)

  • Purpose: The authors applied Bilhaut-Cloquet procedure to Wassel type III and IV duplicated thumb, which was limited to patients with Wassel type I, II. This procedure was applied in order to improve the growth potential, range of joint motion, joint stability and cosmetic outcome. Methods: Sixteen patients received Bilhaut-Cloquet procedures to correct duplicated thumbs from May, 2005 to December, 2010. Seven patients were Wassel type III, nine patients were type IV. This procedure was applied not only to balanced type, but also unbalanced type or convergent type. Five patients were balanced type and eleven patients were unbalanced type. Convergent type of Wassel type IV was three. Sex ratio was the same, mean age at the operation was 20.1 months old (8~52 months old). Angular deformity, joint stability and range of joint motion and cosmetic outcome were considered together and estimated in Tada score. Also, postoperative subjective satisfaction score of the parents was evaluated by a 100-points scale. Results: Mean subjective satisfaction scored 75 points at 28 months after the operation. Radiologic study showed bony union of proximal phalangeal bone and stable joint in all patients. Range of motion was mean 20 degrees in interphalangeal joint and mean 73 degrees in metacarpophalangeal joint. Tada score showed 'good' in eleven patients (68.8%), 'fair' in three patients (18.7%) and 'poor' in two patients (12.5%). In seven patients those who were able to follow up for a long term showed no significant difference in length of proximal and distal phalangeal bones compared to the opposite thumb. Conclusion: Bilhaut-Cloquet procedure can be applied not only to balanced type of Wassel type III, IV duplicated thumb, but also to unbalanced type or convergent type that focused on functional reconstruction and cosmetic improvement.

  • A number of case studies and type analyzes have been conducted on mobility platform services that are rapidly evolving around the world. However, since the actual user experience is important for the development of the mobility service, research on the user side is needed. In the mobility platform service, only the car-hailing was used, and the preference factors were analyzed through the questionnaire in seven aspects of the user experience. Studies have shown significant differences according to gender. While the safety of the woman, the comfort and the kindness of the vehicle have a great influence on the satisfaction, the male affirms that the familiarity is the factor affecting the satisfaction. This study focused on the customer experience as a real user and identified key factors of selecting mobility platform service, so it is expected that it will contribute to the development of mobility platform service in the future.

  • We introduce two iterative algorithms for finding a common element of the set of fixed points of an asymptotically k-strict pseudo-contraction and the set of solutions of a mixed equilibrium problem in a Hilbert space. We obtain some weak and strong convergence theorems by using the proposed iterative algorithms. Our results extend and improve the corresponding results of Tada and Takahashi [16] and Kim and Xu [8, 9].

  • The measurable speed range of the self-mixing type semiconductor laser range finder has been greatly improved by employing a new processing circuit. Using this range finder as an external finder of a single lens reflex (SLR) autofocus (AF) camera, some clear photographs of an object moving at a medium speed of 20 mm/s is obtained.

  • Just-In-Time production is to keep the kanban system. When production managers implement and operate successfully the system in the multi-Line, multi-stage production setting, it is very important to determine the number of kanbans in deterministic kanban system under consideration with relevant factors as well as with cost. In concrete, we discuss about following factors in kanban system and provide a model formulating the multi-objective goal programming : Demand, stock on hand in process, Inventory cost and Labor cost, Vendor's suppling capacity, Work Load. Finally we analyze several numerical examples in order to test the model and attempt to expand the model in general case.

Monte Carlo Simulation of Ion Implantation Profiles Calibrated for Various Ions over Wide Energy Range

  • Monte Carlo simulation is widely used for predicting ion implantation profiles in amorphous targets. Here, we compared Monte Carlo simulation results with a vast database of ion implantation secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS), and showed that the Monte Carlo data sometimes deviated from the experimental data. We modified the electron stopping power model, calibrated its parameters, and reproduced most of the database. We also demonstrated that Monte Carlo simulation can accurately predict profiles in a low energy range of around 1keV once it is calibrated in the higher energy region.

Reconstructing individual hand models from motion capture data

  • In this paper, we propose a new method of reconstructing the hand models for individuals, which include the link structure models, the homologous skin surface models and the homologous tetrahedral mesh models in a reference posture. As for the link structure model, the local coordinate system related to each link consists of the joint rotation center and the axes of joint rotation, which can be estimated based on the trajectories of optimal markers on the relative skin surface region of the subject obtained from the motion capture system. The skin surface model is defined as a three-dimensional triangular mesh, obtained by deforming a template mesh so as to fit the landmark vertices to the relative marker positions obtained motion capture system. In this process, anatomical dimensions for the subject, manually measured by a caliper, are also used as the deformation constraints.
