Effect of Subzero Treatment on the Mechanical Properties of Cold-Rolled High Manganese Austenitic Stainless Steel (냉간압연한 고 Mn 오스테나이트계 스테인리스강의 기계적 성질에 미치는 서브제로처리의 영향)

  • The effect of subzero treatment on the mechanical properties of cold rolled high manganese austenitic stainless steel was investagated. ${\alpha}$'-martensite was formed by cold rolling, and it was formed with surface relief and specific direction or crossing each other. The volume fraction of martensite increased by subzero treatment, and it was increased with longer time of subzero treatment and higher temperature of subzero treatment. The hardness and strength increased by subzero treatment, while the elongation decreased. With the increase of volume fraction of martensite, the hardness and strength was increased steeply with proportional relationship, elongation was decreased slowly. The results show that the hardness and strength was strongly controlled by the volume fraction of martensite, and the elongation was affected by transformation behavior of deformation induced martensite in the initial stage of deformation.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of hot forging ratio and solution treatment temperature on the mechanical properties of incoloy 825 alloy. With an increasing of the hot forging ratio, grain size and range of grain size was decreased. With an increasing of the solution treatment temperature after 90% forging, grain size and range of grain size was increased. Cr carbides and Ti nitrides was precipitated at below $900^{\circ}C$ and volume fraction of precipitate was increased with an decreasing of the solution treatment temperature. With an increasing of the hot forging ratio, hardness, tensile strength and elongation, toughness was increased. With an increasing of the solution treatment temperature after 90% forging, hardness and strength was increased, elongation and toughness was decreased by grain refinement. With an increasing of the forging ratio, effect of solution treatment temperature on the hardness, strength and elongation was small, but on the toughness was large.

  • The purpose of this paper is to define criteria to be used as part of the engineering design for an oil sands plant equipped with the steam assisted gravity drainage process. In this effort, the oil treatment process of an oil sands plant on a pilot scale was focused for detailed investigation. The thermodynamic properties of the process fluid, which is mainly composed of bitumen and water, were estimated with the CPA model. The commercial tool aspen HYSYS was used for the analysis throughout this work along with the provided input data and some necessary assumptions. From the simulation results, the heat and mass balances for a 300 BPD plant were established in order to define standard data for its modular design. In particular, the basis of design for equipment size, heat transfer areas, capital cost and operation cost was extensively discussed.

  • The microstructure of copper films prepared by a sputtering apparatus, which was fabricated to enhance the shadowing effect, was investigated by scanning electron microscopy. Black copper films were deposited on copper wires at an Ar pressure of 10 Pa. The black films had an extremely porous structure composed of separated columns. This structure is quite similar to that of black titanium films prepared by cylindrical magnetron sputtering. These results suggest that the porous structure composed of separated columns is easily formed for metal films by enhancing the shadowing effect.

  • Fundmental fatigue crack propagation tests with C-T type specimens were conducted at various load ratios (R) such as 0.1, 0.3 and 0.5 in T6 and Thermomechanically treated (TMT) conditions of 7039 Al alloy. Better mechanical properties from monotonic test as well as fatigue crack propagation were obtained by TMT process owing to uniform distribution of fine microstructures and non-existence of precipitation free zone (PFZ). Through the measurement of Kop and ${\Delta}K$ at various R the concept of effective stress intensity factor range ratio, U was reviewed to asses the load ratio effect on fatigue crack propagation. A relationship between U and variables such as ${\Delta}K$ and R was obtained empirically. This may enable us to predict ${\Delta}K_{eff}$ that is of critical importance for prediction of fatigue crack propagation rate.

  • In the present study, the effect of cold reduction ratio on the spherodization rate of SK85 high carbon steel sheet was investigated. High carbon steel sheet fabricated by POSCO was soaked at $800^{\circ}C$ for 2 hr in a box furnace and then treated at $570^{\circ}C$ for 5 min in a salt bath furnace followed by water quenching to obtain a fine pearlite structure. Cold rolling was conducted on the sheets of fine pearlite by reduction ratios of 20, 30, and 40 % and heat treatment for spheroidization was carried out at $720^{\circ}C$ for the various time intervals from 0.1 to 32 hrs. Area fraction of spheroidized cementite was measured with an image analyzer as a function of cold reduction ratios and duration times.

Investigation of Changes in Structural Characteristics and Chemical Composition after Heat Treatment Process of JIS-SUJ2 Bearing Steel (JIS-SUJ2 베어링강의 열처리 이후 표면 및 심부에서 나타나는 구조적, 화학적 물성 변화)

  • In this study, we designed and manufactured a large angular contact ball bearing (LACBB) with low deformation using JIS-SUJ2 steel and analyzed changes in its structural characteristics and chemical composition upon heat treatment. The bearing was produced by hot forging and heat treatment including a quenching and tempering (Q/T) process, and its properties were analyzed using 4 mm thick specimens. A difference in the size distribution of the carbide in the outer and inner parts of the bearing was observed and it was confirmed that large and non-uniform carbide was distributed in the inner part of the bearing. After heat treatment, the hardness value of the outer part increased from 13.4 HRC to 61 HRC and the inner part increased from 8.0 HRC to 59.7 HRC. As a result of X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements, the volume fraction of the retained austenite contained in the outer part was calculated to be 3.5~4.8 % and the inner part was calculated to be 3.6~5.0 %. The surface chemical composition and the content of chemical bonds were quantified through X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and a decrease in C=C bonds and an increase in Fe-C bonds were confirmed.

  • Co-(0.7 wt%) and Pr-(2.0, 3.5 or 5.0 wt%) doped cubic zirconia ($ZrO_2:Y_2O_3=50:50wt%$) single crystals grown by a skull melting method were heat-treated in $N_2$ at $1150^{\circ}C$ for 5 hrs. The brown colored as-grown single crystals were changed into either dark brownish green, greenish blue and light green color after the heat treatment. Before and after the heat treatment, the YSZ (yttria-stabilized zirconia) single crystals were cut for wafer form (${\phi}7.5mm{\times}t3mm$). The optical and structural properties were examined by UV-VIS spectrophotometer and X-ray diffraction. Absorption by $Co^{2+}$(${\fallingdotseq}589nm$: ${\Gamma}_8[^4A_2(^4F)]{\rightarrow}{\Gamma}_8+{\Gamma}_7[^4T_1(^4F)]$, ${\fallingdotseq}610nm$: ${\Gamma}_8[^4A_2(^4F)]{\rightarrow}{\Gamma}_8[^4T_1(^4F)]$], ${\fallingdotseq}661nm$: ${\Gamma}_8[^4A_2(^4F)]{\rightarrow}{\Gamma}_6[^4T_1(^4F)]$]) and $Pr^{3+}$(${\fallingdotseq}450nm$: ${^3}H{_4}-{^3}P{_2}$, ${\fallingdotseq}473nm$: ${^3}H{_4}{\rightarrow}{^3}P{_1}$, ${\fallingdotseq}484nm$: ${^3}H{_4}{\rightarrow}{^3}P{_0}$), change of ionization energy and lattice parameter were confirmed.

  • The effect of carbon equivalent on the fading behavior of hypoeutectic ductile cast iron was investigated. The carbon content was slightly increased right after graphite spheroidization treatment and remained almost constant with holding at $1,490^{\circ}C$ after 4 minute. The residual magnesium content was decreased slowly with holding. The empirical equation expressing the relationship between this and holding time was proposed ; $C=C_o-P{\times}t$. The proportionality constant, P, was inversely proportional to carbon content.
