This study focused on shorten the period of the struvite crystal birth and development by adding seed materials. For this purpose, three different seed materials were selected: sand, anthracite and struvite. The experiments has been conducted to evaluate the effect of the particle size of the selected seed material on the struvite crystallization, and to study the mixing effect which can be expressed by the value of $G{\cdot}t_d$(the multiple of mean velocity gradient(G) and mixing time($t_d$)). It was observed in this study that the removal efficiency of ammonia nitrogen increased by 9%, 11%, and 20% for sand, anthracite, and struvite added as the seed material, respectivley. This indicated that the struvite crystallization efficiency had a close correlation with the specific surface area of the seed particle. It was found that when struvite was selected as the seed material, the struvite crystallization proceeded at lower $G{\cdot}t_d$ value as compared with other seed materials. This observation implied that the secondary crystal birth would be dominated in this reaction. It was concluded in this study that the particle size was not significant factor on the struvite crystallization, while the $G{\cdot}t_d$ value was a considerably important factor in terms of the theory of the struvite crystal birth.

o.25${\mu}m$ T-shaped gate P-HEMT is fabricated and used for design of X0band three stage monolithic microwave integrated circuit(MMIC) low noise amplifier(LNA). The fabricated P-HEMT exhibits an extrinsis transconductance of 400mS/mm and a drain current of 400mA/mm. The RF and noise characteristics show that the current gain cut off frequency is 65GHz and minimum noise figure(NFmin) of 0.7dB with an associated gain of 14.8dB at 9GHz. In the design of the three stage LNA, we have used the inductive series feedback circuit topology with the short stub. The effects of series feedback to the noise figure, the gain, and the stability have been investigated to find the optimal short stub length. The designed three staage LNA showed a gain of above 33dB, a noise figure of under 1.2dB, and ainput/output return loss of under 15dB and 14dB, respectively. The results show that the fabricated P-HEMT is very suitable for a X-band LNA with high gain.
Purpose : To investigate the effects of 2-deoxy-D-glucose (2-DG) and quercetin (QCT) on gene expression of bone sialoprotein (BSP) and osteocalcin (OC) during the differentiation in irradiated MC3T3-E1 osteoblastic cells. Materials and Methods : When MC3T3-E1 osteoblastic cells had reached 70-80% confluence, cultures were transferred to a differentiating medium supplemented with 5 mM 2-DG or $10{\mu}M$ QCT, and then irradiated with 2, 4, 6, and 8 Gy. At various times after irradiation, the cells were analyzed for the synthesis of type I collagen, and expression of BSP and OC. Results : The synthesis of type I collagen in cells exposed to 2 Gy of radiation in the presence of 2-DG or QCT showed no significant difference compared with the control group within 15 days post-irradiation. When the cells were irradiated with 8 Gy, 2-DG facilitated the irradiation mediated decrease of type I collagen synthesis, whereas such decrease was inhibited by treating with QCT. During MC3T3-E1 osteoblastic cell differentiation, the mRNA expression of BSP and OC showed the peak value at 14 days and 21 days, respectively. 2-DG or QCT treatment alone decreased the level of BSP mRNA, but increased the OC mRNA level only at early time of differentiation (day 7). In the cells irradiated with 2, 4, 8 Gy, the mRNA expression of BSP and OC decreased at 7 days after the irradiation. The cells were treated with various dose of radiation in the presence of 2-DG or QCT, the mRNA level of both BSP and OC increased although this increase was observed at low dose of radiation (2 Gy) and at the early stage of differentiation. However, when the cells were exposed to 4, 6, or 8 Gy, the increase of BSP and OC mRNAs was detected only in cells co-incubated with QCT. Conclusion : This study demonstrates that 2-DG and QCT affect differently the expression of bone formation related factors, type I collagen, BSP, and OC in the irradiated MC3T3-E1 osteoblasic cells, according to the dose of radiation and the times of differentiation. Overall, the present findings suggest that 2-DG and QCT could have the regulatory roles as radiation-sensitizer and -protector, respectively.

We have successfully fabricated a super low noise pseudomorphic HEMT(PHEMT) device with AlGaAs/InGaAs/GaAs sturcture by using improved T-Gate which have increased a large gaet cross-sectional area about two times in comparision with those of conventional T-gate processes. The PHEMSTs with 0.15$\mu$m-long and 140$\mu$m-wide gates have eshibited a super low noise characteristics, the noise figure of 0.45dB with associated gain of 10.87dB at 12GHz. The cut-off rewuqncy of the device is 94gHz with a transconductance of 418mS/mm.
Bacteriophage T7 gp4A' is a ring-shaped hexameric DNA helicase that catalyzes duplex DNA unwinding using dTTP hydrolysis as an energy source. To investigate the effect of single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) on the kinetic pathway of dTTP hydrolysis by the T7 DNA helicase complexed with ssDNA, we have first determined optimal concentration of long circular M13 single-stranded DNA and pre-incubation time in the absence of $Mg^{2+}$ which is necessary for the helicase-ssDNA complex formation. Steady state dTTP hydrolysis in the absence of $Mg^{2+}$ by the helicase-ssDNA complex provided $k_{cat}$ of $8.5\;{\times}\;10^{-3}\;sec^{-1}$. Pre-steady state kinetics of the dTTP hydrolysis by the pre-assembled hexameric helicase was monitored by using the rapid chemical quench-flow technique both in the presence and absence of M13 ssDNA. Pre-steady state dTTP hydrolysis showed distinct burst kinetics in both cases, indicating that product release step is slower than dTTP hydrolysis step. Pre-steady state burst rates were similar both in the presence and absence of ssDNA, while steady state dTTP hydrolysis rate in the presence of ssDNA was much faster than in the absence of ssDNA. These results suggest that single-stranded DNA stimulates dTTP hydrolysis reaction by T7 helicase by enhancing the rate of product release step.
The incidence of stress-related type 2 diabetes (stress-T2D), which is aggravated by physiological stress, is increasing annually. The effects of Lactobacillus, a key component of probiotics, have been widely studied in diabetes; however, studies on the effects of postbiotics are still limited. Here, we aimed to examine the mechanism through which heat-killed Lactiplantibacillus plantarum LRCC5314 (HK-LRCC5314) alleviates stress-T2D in a cold-induced stress-T2D C57BL/6 mouse model. HK-LRCC5314 markedly decreased body weight gain, adipose tissue (neck, subcutaneous, and epididymal) weight, and fasting glucose levels. In the adipose tissue, mRNA expression levels of stress-T2D associated factors (NPY, Y2R, GLUT4, adiponectin, and leptin) and pro-inflammatory factors (TNF-α, IL-6, and CCL-2) were also altered. Furthermore, HK-LRCC5314 increased the abundance of Barnesiella, Alistipes, and butyrate-producing bacteria, including Akkermansia, in feces and decreased the abundance of Ruminococcus, Dorea, and Clostridium. Thus, these findings suggest that HK-LRCC5314 exerts protective effects against stress-T2D via gut microbiome modulation, suggesting its potential as a supplement for managing stress-T2D.
The pharmacokinetic properties of oxytetracycline (OTC) were studied after intramuscular injection to cultured olive flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus. Plasma concentrations of OTC were determined after dosage of 12.5, 25 and 50 ㎎/㎏ body weight in olive flounder (average 600 g, $23{\pm}1{^{\circ}C}$). Plasma samples were taken at 3, 5, 10, 15, 24, 32, 48, 72, 120, 168, 240 and 360 h post-dose. With 25 and 50 ㎎/㎏, the peak plasma concentrations of OTC, which attained at 5 h post-dose, were 0.99 and 1.49 $\mu{g}/m\ell$, respectively. However, the peak plasma concentration of 12.5 ㎎/㎏ was 0.35 $\mu{g}/m\ell$ after 10 h post-dose. Plasma concentrations of OTC were not measurable at 360 h post-dose in all doses. The kinetic profile of absorption, distribution and elimination of OTC in plasma were analyzed fitting to a 1-compartment model by Win-Nonlin program. The following parameters were calculated for 12.5, 25 and 50 ㎎/㎏ body weight, respectively: AUC (the area under the concentration-time curve)?DD24.98, 44.67 and 50.45 $\mu{g}$$h/m\ell$$T_{1/2}$ (half-life) ?DD0.42, 0.59 and 0.41 h; $T_{max}$ (time for maximum concentration)?DD8.46, 6.34 and 2.66 h; $C_{max}$ (maximum concentration)?DD0.30, 0.63 and 1.13 $\mu{g}/m\ell$.
In order to assess the influences of bottom sediment on water quality, following measurement were made. (1) Estimations of pollutant loads from the bottom sediment based on mass balance concept, (2) measurements of pollutant concentrations in the sediment to assess the pollution level and influence potential, (3) in situ and laboratory measurements of Sediment Oxygen Demants (SOD) and pollutant load (sediment release) from bottom sediment. Analyses of inflow and outflow loadings using simple mass balance show that there are some variations found according to the pollutants. However, there is no consistent evidence that the sediment can be a source of pollutants. Pollutant concentrations in the sediment range 16~724.8 mg/kg (COD), 1.68 ~12.64 mg/kg (T-P), 5.6~76.8 mg/kg (T-N), 0.32~21.6 mg/kg ($NH_3$-N), 0.092~0.544 mg/kg ($NO_2$-N), 4.8~18.4 mg/kg ($NO_3$-N), and 1.59~11.23 mg/kg ($PO_4$-P). Measured SOD ranges $0.190{\sim}0.802g{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}d^{-1}$ and measured release rate ranges $-1618.42{\sim}10mg/m^2{\cdot}d$(COD), $-12{\sim}16mg/m^2{\cdot}d$(T-P), $-197.37{\sim}140mg/m^2{\cdot}d$(T-N), $0.4{\sim}74.32mg/m^2{\cdot}d$($NH_3$-N), $-2.04{\sim}0.8mg/m^2{\cdot}d$ ($NO_2$-N), $-70{\sim}40mg/m^2{\cdot}d$ ($NO_3$-N), and $-26.11{\sim}28.55mg/m^2{\cdot}d$($PO_4$-P). All study results indicate that bottom sediments in the Seoha weir show only limited effects on the water quality. It implies that sediment dredging is not an effective option or management measure to reduce pollutant loading.
The study was conducted to evaluate the effect of drying, curing and freezing on the quality of beef. Three types of dried (without salt = $T_1$, with salt = $T_2$ and salt + spices = $T_3$); three types of cured (salt curing = $T_4$, sugar curing = $T_5$ and brine curing = $T_6$) and three types of frozen beef ($0^{\circ}C=T_7^{\circ}C$, $-10^{\circ}C=T_8$ and $-20^{\circ}C=T_9$) were analyzed at different time intervals up to the period of 180 d. Parameters studied were protein, fat, ash, color and cooking loss of beef. All the chemical constituents (protein, fat and ash) were decreased gradually up to 120 d. The decreasing trend was observed rapid after 120 d up to 180 d of preservation. Highest protein loss was found in $T_7$ (11.1 %) and the lowest protein loss was found in $T_6$ (3.85%) in 180 d preservation and significant (p < 0.01) differences were observed among the different preservation methods. Highest fat loss was observed in $T_6$ (7.62%) and the lowest fat loss was observed in $T_2$ (3.18%) and the differences were also significant (p < 0.05) among different methods during the experimental period. Spices dried beef showed a brighter color than others and cured beef showed brown color and the intensity of color was reduced gradually with the increasing of storage period. $T_9$ showed the lowest cooking loss among 3 treatments of frozen beef and the differences also significant (p < 0.01) up to 180 d. It might be stated that sugar curing ($T_5$) and spices drying ($T_3$) would be the useful technique of meat preservation in rural areas and freezing ($T_9$) would be used in large scale preservation at urban areas.

Cathepsin D (CtsD), an aspartyl peptidase, is involved in apoptosis, resulting in the release of cytochrome C from mitochondria in cells. Here, we investigated microRNA regulation of CtsD expression in 3T3-L1 cells First, we observed the expression of CtsD in cells in response to doxorubicin (Dox). As expected, the level of CtsD mRNA was increased in 3T3-L1 cells exposed to Dox in a dose-dependent manner. Cellular viability of ectopically expressed CtsD cells was also decreased. Next, we used the miRanda program to search for particular microRNA targeting CtsD. MiR-145 was selected as a putative controller for CtsD because miR-145 had a high mirSVR score. In a reporter assay, the luciferase activity of cells containing the CtsD 3'-UTR region was decreased in cells transfected with miR-145 mimic compared to that of a control. The level of CtsD expression was down-regulated in preadipocytes ectopically expressing miR-145 and up-regulated by an miR-145 inhibitor. Cells also suppressed miR-145 expression when exposed to Dox. The miR-145 inhibitor reduced the cellular viability of 3T3-L1 cells. Taken together, these data suggest that miR-145 regulates CtsD-mediated cell death in adipocytes. These findings may have valuable implications concerning the molecular mechanism of CtsD-mediated cell death in obesity, suggesting that CtaD could be a useful therapeutic tool for the prevention and treatment of obesity by regulating fat cell numbers.
