  • The purpose of this study was to exame the effect of the planned indoctrination program on the role transition of new graduate nurses in one educational hospital located in Seoul. The planned in doctrination program was a 1-month program and consisted of 3 days induction and 22 days orientation- socialization. The simulated control group pretest-posttest research was designed for this study. One hundred and twenty subjects were selected from the new graduate nurses who were employed by the Seoul National Univerty Hospital. Sixty of them were assigned to the pretest, and the rest to the posttest. To collect the data on role transition, the researcher developed the instrument, measuring 3 differert areas : inducction, orientation, and socialization. The reliability of the instrument were induction area's Chronbach ${\alpha}$ .8291, orientation area's Chronbach ${\alpha}$ .9809, and soialization area's Chronbach ${\alpha}$ .8524. The data were collected from Aprial to October 1995 at three different times: (1) immediately before indoctrination program began, (2) immediately after the program ended, and (3) 2 months after the program ended. In addition to the self-report of the subjects, their superiors filled out the same instrument on role transition to compare the scores between the subjects and their superiors at 2 months after the program. T-test was utilized to test differences between the means of pre- and post-tests. The result of this study are as follows : 1. There was a significant difference in the mean scores between before and immediately after the indoctrination program (t=-12.65, P=.000). There were significant differences in all 3 areas of role transition. 2. There was a significant difference in the mean scores between immediately after and 2 months after the program (t=-2.91, P=.004), Among 3 areas of role transition, however, only in the orientation area was there significant difference (t=-3.26, P=.001). 3. There was no significant difference in total mean scores between subjects' self-report and their superiors' report 2 months after the program ended (t =.97, p= .335). Among 3 different areas, however, there was a significant difference in the induction area (t=2.41, P=.018). 4. There was significant difference in mean scores between the group Of 3-year diploma and 4-year bachelor's degree only at pretest (t=-2.56, P= .013), but not at two posttests (t=-1.08, P=.250: t=-.34, P=.733). In conclusion, the planned indoctrination program for new graduate nurses was proved to be effective on the role transition in the study. But the result in the study showed that the indoctrination program had not equal effect On 3 different areas of role transition. There were significant differences in the scores between after and 2 months after the program only in the orientation area. These suggest that indoctrination program should be developed more focusing on induction and socialization areas to help new graduate nurses have a high morale and enthusiasm for the organization. Also contineous program to facilitate induction and socialization might be necessary for them to have a successful role transition.

  • This study tested how S/N (Signal to Noise Ratio) ratios and ADC (apparent diffusion coefficient) values vary with different T-scores in a group of patients with osteoporosis. Based on DEXA (Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry) T-scores for L1.L4 for two groups of subjects consisting of 30 healthy people without osteoporosis and 30 patients who came for treatment of waist (lumbar or low back) pain and were suspected to have osteoporosis as judged from the simple X-ray findings, this study classified every spine into two groups of osteoporosis and osteopenia. Signal intensity measurements were made in the four regions of L1 to L4 on diffusion-weighted MR images obtained using 1.5T MR scanner, while ADC measurements were obtained from ADC map images. As an approach for quantitative analysis, the comparison of the variances in S/N ratios and ADC values for varying T-scores in the selected regions of interest was carried out based on averaged T-scores, S/N ratios, and ADC values. Also, the variances in S/N ratios and ADC values for each of the groups of osteoporosis and osteopenia, which were classified into by T-scores, were compared. For qualitative analysis, a careful naked eye examination of signal intensity differences in the area of L4 was made on T1-weighted sagittal images for each of the healthy (normal), osteopenia, and osteoporosis groups. In the qualitative analysis, it was found that for both the osteopenia group and the osteoporosis group, as T-scores deceased, the S/N ratios on diffusion-weighted MR images also decreased, with the greatest decrease in the S/N ratio found in the osteoporosis group. Additionally, among the three groups, the lowest S/N ratio was found in the osteoporosis group. With respect to ADC map, it was found that for both the osteopenia group and the osteoporosis group, as T-scores deceased, the ADC values on diffusion-weighted MR images also decreased, with the greatest decrease in the ADC values found in the osteoporosis group. Additionally, among the three groups, the lowest ADC value was found in the osteoporosis group. On the other hand, in the qualitative analysis, the osteoporosis group showed the highest signal intensity. Additionally, among the three groups, the lowest signal intensity was found in the healthy (normal) group. It was found that as osteoporosis progressed, S/N ratio and ADC decreased, whereas signal intensity increased on T1-weighted images. Also, in diagnosing osteoporosis, MRI tests turned out to be (more) effective.

  • Background : Quality of life(Qol) is a broad concept that incorporates all aspects of an individual's existence. There is many study about Qol of the patient with dermatic disease in the west, but in korea there is few study, particularly for oriental medical academic world. Objective : The purpose of this study is to Investigate the influence of dermatic disease, particularly acne on the Qol by using the korean version of skindex-29. Method : We measured the Qol of Kyungwon university student participating in Dongseo health examination by using the Korean version of Skindex-29. A total of 535 students were enrolled In this study. Results are reported as 3 scales scores (functions, emotions, and symptoms) and a composite score (average scale score). Result : 1) There were no statistically significant gender-related differences in Qol scores in patient group with acne. 2) There were no significant correlation between Age Duration and Qol socres in patient group with acne. 3) Acne group marked higher Qol scores than contact dermatitis and normal group (lower than Acne with atopic dermatitis group) within emotional scales. 4) Acne group marked higher Qol scores than scar, tinea cruris, and normal group (lower than Acne with atopic dermatitis group) within functional and total scales. 5) Acne group marked higher Qol scores than tinea cruris and normal group (lower than Atopic dermatitis group) within symptom scales. 6) In acne group that feel the necessity of medical treatment, group that be treated by occidental medical method marked lower Qol scores than group that don't be treated within functional, symptom, and total scales. 7) In acne group that don't be treated, group that feel the necessity of medical treatment marked higher Qol scores than group that don't feel within emotional, functional, and total scales. 8) Acne group that don't fee the necessity of medical treatment and be treated marked high scores than normal group within all scales. Conclusion : Acne is sometimes thought of as unimportant, but Acne significantly affects patient's Qol. Occidental medical treatment can help Acne patients to improve Qol. Even if someone who suffering from acne feel that he don't need to be treated, he had lower Qol than healthy controls. And we can expect that proper occidental medical treatment help him. But few study have discuss whether oriental medical method can improve Qol of acne patients. From now on we expect interesting study that measure effect of oriental medical therapy on Qol of Acne patients and compare with occidental medical therapy by using Qol mesure instrument.

  • The purpose of this study was to quantify the relationship between the sense of touch and mechanical properties of man-made leather. The first was to develop the five conversion equations which convert mechanical properties of man-made leather into five factor scores, which express five factors of the sense of touch(surface property, stretchiness, thickness & weight, thermal property(warmth & coolness), and moisture property(sticky & clingy)). The second was to develop the conversion equation which converts five factor scores into score of the sense of touch. Five factor scores were predicted by the following mechanical properties; surface property factor by log2HB and (log2HB)2, stretchiness factor by logEM, thickness & weight factor by logT, log2HB, logW, thermal property factor by logT, logHB, logSMd, and moisture property factor by logMMD, RC, RC2, (logEM)2, RT2. Subsequently, these five factor scores were converted into score of the sense of touch. The predictive abilities of the developed equations were satisfied.
