The Effects of Live Yeast(Saaccharomyces cerevisiae) Supplementation on the Performance of Laying Hens (활성효모 첨가가 산란계의 생산성에 미치는 영향)

  • In order to study the effects of supplementation of live yeast(Saccharomyces cerevisiae) on the performance of laying hens, five experiments were conducted. Two experiment were conducted during summer period, one with 37 wk old Dekalb-Delta strain laying birds(Exp. 1) and the other one with 100 wk old molted Nick Chick Brown laying birds(Esp.2) . In each experiment, 240 birds were divided into 12 groups of 20 birds each and randomly distributed. Each of the two experimental diets(Control 71 and 0.05% live yeast supplemented 72) was fed to 6 groups for 4 wks in Exp.1 and 3 wks in Exp.2. Three experiments were conducted during winter period, Exp.2 with 54 wk old Hy-Line strain laying birds, Exp.4 with 52 wk old Hy-Line strain laying birds, and Exp.5 with 36 wk old broiler breeder(Indian River strain). In each experiment, 540 birds were divided into 18 groups of 30 birds each and randomly distributed. Each of the 3 experimental diets(Control:$T_1$0.05% live yeast supplemented:$T_2$ and 0.1% live yeast supplemented : T$_3$) was fed to 9 groups for 6 wks in Exp.3, 9 wks in Exp.4 and 4 wks in Exp.5. In Exp.4, Latin Square design was employed to determine the effects of switching feeds at 3 wk intervals. All hens were housed in cages of commercial farm and experimental diets were made with commercial layer feeds. In Experiment 1, egg production was significantly(P<0.05) higher in $T_2$. Feed intake was significantly (P<higher in 72 at 1st wk but 4 wk average was not significantly different. Feed efficiency was significantly(P<0.01) better in 72 at End wk but 4 wk average was not significantly different. Other parameters, such as weight, soft egg production, cracked egg production and mortality were not significantly different. In Experiment 2, egg production was significantly(P<0.05) higher in $T_2$. Feed efficiency was significantly (P<0.05 and P<0.01) better at End wk and 3rd wk but 3 wk average was not significantly different. Soft egg production was significantly(P<0.05) higher in 72. Other parameters were not significantly different. In Experiment 3, egg productions were significantly(P<0.05) different among treatments : $T_3$ was higher than $T_1$ and $T_2$ was higher than $T_1$. Egg weight of $T_1$ and $T_2$was significantly(P<0.05) heavier than $T_3$. Feed intake of $T_2$ and $T_3$ was significantly(P<0.05) higher than $T_1$ at 6th wk but overall average was not significantly different. Soft egg production were significantly(P<0.01) different among treatments:$T_1$ was higher than $T_3$ was higher than $T_2$. Feed efficiency cracked e99 Production and mortality were not signifcantly different. In Experiment 4, egg production tended to increase as the level of live yeast supplementation increased but they were not statistically different. In Experiment 5, egg production of broiler breeders of $T_3$ was significantly(P<0.01) higher than $T_1$. Feed intake of $T_3$ was significantly(P<0.05) greater than $T_1$ and $T_2$ at 3rd wk but overall average was not significantly different. Fertility and hatchability tended to be higher in the supplemented groups than in the control.

Efficacy of Cyanobacterial Biofertilizer (CBB) on Leaf Yield and Quality of Mulberry and its Impact on Silkworm Cocoon Characters

  • An experiment was conducted to study the efficiency of cyanobacterial biofertilizer (CBB) with chemical (NPK) fertilizer on quantitative and qualitative characters of mulberry variety Kanva-2. Their influences on silkworm growth and cocoon characters were also studied. Ten different CBB and NPK fertilizer treatments were given to 5000 plants of established mulberry garden. Treatments were of four types viz., (i) T1 to T7: single and combination dose of CBB+50% NPK (ii) T8: combination dose of CBB + 25%NPK, (iii) T9: CBB only and (iv) T10: control-l00% NPK. Soil pH decreased and nutrients status increased in CBB (T1- T9) treated plots. Average of ten crops data on quantitative traits revealed that T7 (CBB [N. muscorum (1.0 g), A. variahilis (1.0) and S. millei (1.0 g)] + 50% NPK) was very effective in improving growth parameters. Leaf yield was also found high in treatment T7 (32.12 tons/ha/yr.) followed by T10 (31.17 tons/ha/yr.) and T8 (27.67 tons/ha/yr.). Leaf quality characters were found high in T7 and low in T9. Most of the quality traits in T7 are on par with control no. The results revealed that reduction in the dose of chemical fertilizers in T7 did not affect the leaf yield and leaf quality traits of mulberry. This clearly indicates that the efficiency of CBB (T7) provides nitrogen, increases essential nutrients available in soil, maintain soil pH and supply growth substances required for the improvement of leaf yield and leaf quality of mulberry. Bioassay study also revealed no significant difference in silkworm growth and cocoon characters between treatments T7 and T10. Economics calculated revealed that T7 is highly economical and beneficial over T10 by gaining an amount of Rs. 660/-/acre/crop. Thus, treatment T7 containing N. muscorum (1.0 g), A. variahilis (1.0 g) and S. millei (1.0 g) + 50% NPK fertilizers can be recommended to sericulturists mainly to reduce the use of NPK fertilizers, by saving 50% of its cost and to improve soil fertility conditions, which in turn improves leaf yield and quality of mulberry.

Effect of Feeding Mugwort Level on Pork Quality (사료내 쑥 첨가 수준이 돈육의 육질 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • The effects of addition of mugwort pellet to feed pig on meat quality were investigated. Approximately 40 pigs were divided by 4 groups and different levels(0∼7%) of mugwort pellet were fed to each group up to 4 months. In the proximate composition, moisture contents were slightly higher in the T1(3%), and crude fat contents were lower (p<0.05) in the T1 and T2(5%) than any other. Hunter L and shear values in treatment group were higher than those of control, but pH was higher in the control. The tenderness and flavor of pork samples fed with mugwort pellet was higher than those of the control, when evaluated by trained sensory panels. The unsaturated fatty acid/saturated fatty acid(UFA/SFA) ratio of the control, T1, T2 and 73(7%) were 1.54, 1.65, 1.68 and 1.68. respectively(p<0.05), and treatment group had higher UFA/SFA ratio than the control.

  • The T1 mapping of an human anatomy may give a characteristic contrast among the various tissues and the normal/abnormal tissues. Here, the methodology of constructing T1 map out of several images with different TRs, will be described using non-linear curve fitting. The general curve fitting algorithm requires the initial trial values T1t and Mot for the variables to be fitted. Three different methods of suppling the trial T1t and Mot are suggested and compared for the efficiency and the accuracy. The curve-fitting routine was written in ANSI C and excuted on a SUN workstation. Several distilled-water phantoms with various concentrations of Gd-DTPA were prepared to examine the accuracy of the curve-fitting program. An MR image was used as the true proton density image without any random noise, and several images with different TRs were generated with the theoretical T1 relaxation times 250, 500, and 1000msec. The random noise of 1, 5, and 10% were embedded into the simulated images. These images were used to generate the T1 map, and the resultant T1 maps for each T1 were analyzed to study the effect of the random noise on the T1 map.

We obtain some sufficient conditions for the equivalence of the oscillation of the above equations.

The main tool is the monotone iterative technique. Here, the coefficient q(t) may be singular at t = 0, 1.

Performance and Carcass Ratio of Large-type Female Broiler at Different Stocking Densities (다양한 사육밀도에서 대형 육계 수컷의 생산성과 도체수율)

  • This work was carried out to investigate performance and carcass yield of large-type broilers at different stocking densities. Treatments were T1 (9.1 birds/$m^2$), T2 (10.3 birds/$m^2$) and T3 (11.5 birds/$m^2$) by the stocking density. Four hundred eight 1-day-old Arbor Acre broiler chicks were used for six weeks (starter, 0~1 wks; earlier, 1~3 wks; finisher, 3~6 wks) and divided into 3 treatments (4 replications/treatment, 30, 34 or 38 birds/replication). Research indexes were rearing viability ratio, body weight, body weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion ratio, production efficiency factor and carcass ratio. Rearing viability ratio (%) was 89% or more for all treatments and there was no significant difference on weekly rearing viability ratio (%). Body weight of T2 was the greatest and that of T3 was the lowest at 1 weeks old (P<0.05). Body weight gain of T2 was the greatest and that of T3 was the lowest at 0~1 weeks old (P<0.05). However, body weight gain of T3 was the greatest and that of T1 was the lowest at 1~2 weeks old (P<0.05). Body weight gain of T2 was the greatest as 3,031 g among treatments at 0~6 weeks old (P<0.05). Feed intakes of T1, T2 and T3 were 1,417 g, 1,265 g and 1,355 g, respectively, and that of T1 was the greatest among treatments (P<0.05). There was no significant difference on body weight, body weight gain and feed intake. Feed conversion ratio of T1 was the greatest among treatments at 1~2 wks, 3~4 wks and 0~6 wks old (P<0.05). Production efficiency factors of T1, T2 and T3 were 363.5, 388.3 and 358.3, respectively, and there was no significant difference among treatments. Wing meat ratio of T1 was the higher compared to other treatments at the age of 4 wk (P<0.05). There was no significant difference on carcass ratio and partial meat ratio among treatments. Neck meat ratio of T2 was the lowest among treatments (P<0.05). This result may provide the standard data of different stocking densities for large-type broiler and the further research is needed.

Effects of Dietary Oils and Tocopherol Supplementation on Fatty acid, Amino acid, TBARS, VBN and Sensory Characteristics of Pork Meat (식이 오일과 토코페롤 급여가 돈육의 지방산, 아미노산, TBARS, VBN 및 관능적 품질에 미치는 영향)

  • Subjective pork quality was determined on the six groups of the following treatments. Meat samples were obtained from pigs which had been fed with finishing pig diets containing 5% beef tallow(C), 3% beef tallow and 2% perillar seed oil(T1), 250ppm vitamin E($\alpha$-tocopheryl acetate) in T1(T2), 3% beef tallow and 2% squid viscera oil(T3), 250ppm vitamin E in T3(T4), 3% beef tallow and 2% CLA(Conjugated linoleic acid, T5). In the fatty acid composition, SFA(Saturated fatty acid) and EFA(Essential fatty acid) were higher in T5 than in the rest of three treatments such as C, T1, T3 groups, while UFA(Unsaturated fatty acid), MUFA(Monounsaturated fatty acid), UFA/SFA, MUFA/SFA were low. The total content of amino acid in the T3 were higher those for the rest of rest of C, T1, T5 the content for vitamin added treatment(T2, T4) groups higher than non treated one. T3 and T5 showed higher TBARS(Thiobarbituric acid reactive substance) values than the C and T1 groups VBN(Volatile basic nitrogen) values were higher in the order of T5>T3>T1>C. There was no difference in total plate counts, number of lactic acid bacteria and number of E. coli. In sensory property, the C and T1 showed a higher acceptance than the T3 and T5. In cooked meats, the T3 showed a lower hardness than that of control(C), T1 and, with a higher acceptance. In TBARS, VBN, total counts, lactic counts, and E. coli counts, sensory test of cooked meat and raw meat, there was no significant difference between vitamin supplement groups within each oil treatment.

Physico-Chemical, Fatty Acid Composition and Sensory Properties of Venison from Cervus elaphus andadensis (Elk Deer) (엘크 사슴육의 물리화학적, 지방산 조성 및 관능적 품질 특성)

  • This study was carried out to evaluate the quality characteristics on the two different muscles (Loin; T1, Ham; T2) from the Cervus elaphus andadensis (Elk deer). The water content and shear force of T1 were lower than that of T2. The protein content and water holding capacity were lower in T2 compared to the T1. In meat color, $L^*,\;a^*\;and\;b^*$ values were not different between T1 and T2. In the texture properties, there were significantly (p<0.05) differences in hardness, adhesiveness, gumminess and brittleness, but cohesiveness and springiness were not different significantly (p<0.05). In fatty acid analysis, myristic acid and linoleic acid of T2 were high (p<0.05) as 5.06 and 10.37% respectively, while palmitoleic acid of T1 were significantly (p<0.05) higher than that of T2. SFA and UFA were not different between the T1 and T2, although EFA of T1 was significantly (p<0.05) higher than that of T2. In sensory evaluation, acceptability of T2 in fresh meat showed the slightly high, but that of T2 in cooked meat was slightly low score. All samples were not significantly different in overall acceptability.
