3GPP 5G Core Network: An Overview and Future Directions

  • The new 5G radio technology (NR) can provide ultra-reliable low latency communications. The supporting 5G network infrastructure will move away from the previous point-to-point network architecture to a service-based architecture. 5G can provide three new things, i.e., wider channels, lower latency and more bandwidth. These will allow 5G to support three main types of connected services, including enhanced mobile broadband, mission-critical communications, and the massive Internet of Things (IoT). In 2015, the 5th generation (5G) mobile communication was officially approved by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) as IMT-2020. Since then, 3GPP, the international organization responsible for 5G standards, is actively developing specifications for 5G technologies. 3GPP Release 15 provides the first full set of 5G standards, and the evolution and expansion of 5G are now being standardized in Release 16 and 17, respectively. This paper provides an overview of 3GPP 5G technologies and key services.

IoT의 과거, 현재 그리고 미래 (Past, Present, and Future of IoT)

  • In the past, the Internet connected people together; recently, however it has been extended to the Internet of Things (IoT), allowing all things in the physical world to be connected. We call a new society in which everything is connected through IoT a 'hyper-connected society'. IoT for a hyper-connected society is more than just connecting things to the Internet, it is an infrastructure providing intelligent services without human intervention by connecting things to the Internet using sensors and communication functions, collecting data from connected things, and analyzing and predicting information. Therefore, IoT is a convergence technology that includes not only sensors and communication networks but also big data and AI. This paper examines the short history of IoT, reviews its current trends, and finally, discusses its future direction.

  • With the recent advances in communication technology and Internet of Things (IoT) infrastructure, home automation systems have emerged as a new paradigm for providing users with convenient smart home services. The IoT ecosystem has merged digital systems with the physical world, dramatically changing the way people live and work. However, at the same time, security remains one of the most significant research issues in IoT, as the deployment and application of high-availability systems come with various security risks that cause serious threats to users. Among them, the security issues arising from the interaction among devices/applications should not be underestimated. Attackers can exploit interactions among devices/applications to hack into the user's home. In this paper, we present a survey of research on detecting various types of interactions among devices/applications in IoT.

Studies on Sustainable Policies of European Intermodal Transport System

  • Transport is animportant sector of government regulation. Every country has its own transport policy, but European countries are evolving a common transport policy, which has a long history. The establishment of a consistent common policy in the EU's transport sector is still underway. The key motivations of this policy are 1) to establish and implement a common transport policy, 2) to clarify the concept of sustainability in the transport sector, and 3) to integrate transport services into a common infrastructure. One of the policy's objectives is the progressive movement towards sustainable development in the transport section. The EU'stransport policy has recognised that intermodality is a very important competitive tool. The EU's policy thrustin intermodal transport can be catergorised into infrastructure, technology, and standards and rules. However, obstacles to success can be detected. Cases like that of TEN-T and Marco Polo illustrate European intermodal policies in practice. As regards sustainability in the transport sector, intermodality can be an alternative solution to the increasing imbalance between transport modes and congestion arising from increased road use. Sustainability has been emphasised by the EU, which aims to establish intermodality in its future alternative transport systems while fostering sustainable development in the transport sector. Therefore, intermodality can be defined as a general trend in the current transport market, drawing interest from public institutions and transport-related market players. The EU has thus made an effort to facilitate intermodality in its territory, materialised through various policy options. Therefore, looking into the EU's intermodal transport policies is worthwhile, as doing so can provide useful lessons for all concerned parties.

Research on the Usage and Satisfaction of Smart Community Initiatives in Malaysia

  • This study aims to explore and identify factors of respondent's on the definition of 'smart community facilities', their usage and satisfaction in Malaysia. Study carried out in four sites which were Kota Belud, Kemaman, Lundu and Putrajaya. Data was collected through qualitative method where interviews was carried out with several smart community members in answering factors that drives the usage/participation, satisfaction and continuance intention from using the 'smart community facilities'. Interpretation from the qualitative approach reveals that community thinks infrastructure, content and digital services will help to generate and build up 'smart community'. This will give the benefit for the whole community as well as improve individual efficiency, lifestyles and well-being. Findings demonstrated that the advance of Internet will enhance people usage on being 'smart' and efficient and it should be further improved with better infrastructures, systematic development with sophisticated digital technology services, facilities and structured content, and also safety-security measures in place.

벼 재배용 사물인터넷 기반 물꼬 구현 (Implementation of IoT-Based Irrigation Valve for Rice Cultivation)

  • 벼농사에서 물 관리는 매우 중요한 작업이다. 벼의 생육 초기에는 잡초 발생을 억제하기 위하여 물을 깊이 대고, 모내기 후 뿌리가 활착하면 줄기 생성을 촉진하기 위해 물을 얕게 대며, 쌀알이 맺힐 수 없는 줄기가 생성되는 시기에는 물을 뗀다. 물 공급 상황은 논 위치, 농수로, 토양, 기상 등 다양한 요소에 영향을 받기 때문에 농민은 수시로 논을 방문하여 수위를 확인하고 물의 유출입을 통제한다. 경작하는 논이 원격지에 분산되어 있다면 이러한 노력은 더욱 증가한다. 자동 물 관리 시스템은 노동력을 절감하여 생산성 향상에 기여할 수 있는 방안으로 고려되고 있다. 그러나 2022년 국내 벼 생산으로 인한 순수익은 평균 32만원/10a 정도이다. 따라서 높은 단가의 고사양 장치를 적용하거나 공사를 추진하여 관련 인프라를 구축하는 것은 현실적으로 어렵다. 본 연구는 추가적인 기반공사 없이 국내 농업 인프라에 통합될 수 있는 물꼬 개발에 중점을 두었으며 세 가지 주요 분야에서 연구를 수행하여 사물인터넷 기반 물꼬를 구현하였다. 첫째, 기존의 농업용 관수 파이프에 빠르고 쉽게 설치할 수 있는 물꼬를 설계하였다. 둘째, 저전력 통신 기능을 갖춘 Cat M1 통신 모뎀과 아두이노 나노 보드를 연결하고 전원을 공급하는 전자회로를 제작하였다. 셋째, 클라우드 기반 플랫폼을 이용하여 서버와 데이터베이스 환경을 구축하고 사용자가 접근할 수 있는 웹 페이지를 제작하였다.

극동 아세아 컨테이너 항만의 능력평가에 관한 연구 (A Study on Evaluating the Ability of the Competitive Container Ports in Far-East Asia)

  • The rapid progress of the intermodal freight transportation in recent years has induced fierce competition among the adjacent hub ports for container transport. This brings increased attention to the evaluation of the port competitive ability. But it is not easy to evaluate the port competitive ability because this belongs to ill-defined system which is composed of ambiguous interacting attributes. Paying attention to this point, this paper deals the competitive ability of container port in Far-East Asia by fuzzy integral evaluation which is adequate to interacting ambiguous attribute problem. For this, the proposed fuzzy evaluation algorithm is applied to the real problem, based on the factors such as cargo volumes, costs, services, infrastructure and geographical sites These are extracted from the precedent study of port competitive ability, etc. The results show that the port evaluation factors come in following order ; services, costs, infrastructure, geographical sites and cargo volumes. There are some interactions(interaction coefficient, ${\lambda}=-0.664$ between evaluation attributes. The port competitive ability comes in following order : Singapore, Hongkong, Kobe, Kaoshiung and Busan. According to the sensitivity analysis, the rank between Busan and Kaoshiung changes when ${\lambda}=0.7$. From the analysis of the results, we confirmed that the proposed fuzzy evaluation algorithm is very effective in the complex-fuzzy problem which is composed of hierarchical structure with interacting attributes.

사물인터넷에서 시각 정보 관리 체계 (A Framework for Time Awareness System in the Internet of Things)

  • 사물인터넷 (Internet of Things: IoT)은 기존의 유선통신을 기반으로 한 인터넷이나 모바일 인터넷보다 진화된 단계로 인터넷에 연결된 기기가 사람의 개입 없이 상호간에 알아서 정보를 주고받아 처리한다. 이를 구현하기 위한 기술 요소로는 유형의 사물과 주위 환경으로부터 정보를 얻는 센싱 기술, 사물이 인터넷에 연결되도록 지원하는 유무선 통신 및 네트워크 인프라 기술, 각종 서비스 분야와 형태에 적합하게 정보를 가공하고 처리하거나 기술을 융합하는 서비스 인터페이스 기술이 핵심이며 이러한 기술을 실현하는데 있어 시각 정보 및 시각 동기 기술은 필수적이라 할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 컴퓨터 시스템과 기존 인터넷에서 시각 유지 기법을 분석하고 사물인터넷에서 시각 정보 관리에 필요한 요소 기술과 시각 관리 체계를 제시한다.

에너지 IoT 플랫폼 개발에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Development of Energy IoT Platform)

  • 사물인터넷(IoT, Internet of Things) 분야는 풍부한 정보를 기반으로 사용자가 쉽게 접근해서 서비스를 창출해야 하나, 전력시스템의 특수성으로 인해 다음의 사항이 IoT 확산에 걸림돌로 작용할 수 있으며 '지능형 전력망 정보의 보호 조치에 관한 지침'에 의거, 전력설비 접근이 용이하지 않고, 특히 AMI(Advanced Metering Infrastructure)분야에 IoT 기술적용시 엄격한 보안 정책이 요구되고 있다. 이로 인해 IoT 기술의 전력시스템에 적용 및 활용에 제약이 발생되는 실정이다. 전력정보통신망은 그간 폐쇄망으로 운영되어 왔으며, 스마트그리드(Smart Grid) 인프라인 지능형 전력망에서도 개방형 양방향 통신을 검토하고 있으나 정보보안 취약성이 높아지고 사고 위험이 증가함에 따라 종합적인 보안정책 및 기술이 요구되고 있다. 본 논문은 IoT 기반 에너지 플랫폼 개발 연구내용의 일부로 전력정보시스템의 IoT 플랫폼 아키텍쳐 설계를 목표로 한다. IoT를 기반으로 전력서비스 및 솔루션을 제공하기 위해 '센서-게이트웨이-네트워크-플랫폼-서비스'를 하나로 연결하는 표준 프레임워크를 제정하고자 한다. 프레임워크는 크게 '센서-게이트웨이-플랫폼'을 연계하는 정보모델링 및 연동규약을 다루는 표준과 이를 토대로 다양한 센서를 수용할 수 있는 게이트웨이, 실시간 데이터 수집 분석 제공 역할을 수행하는 플랫폼으로 구분하고 관련 기술을 확보하고자 한다.

A study on the Enhancement of Transshipment Competitiveness of Busan Port by Analyzing Factors Affecting Transshipment Competitiveness

  • It is understood that carriers evaluate several features of ports when fixing the T/S port. Those features can be enumerated as Geographic condition of port, Service network with overseas ports, Level of port productivity, Port infrastructure, Port services level, Port Authority's Policy direction mand Cost competitiveness. The objectives of this study are to: 1) determine if those factors could affect the T/S competitiveness of the port; and 2) to evaluate how Busan port conforms to those determinants factors in such extent. According to results of the analysis after surveying National global carrier, Intra-Asia carriers, Global overseas carriers, Terminal operators, and Busan Port Authority known to be highly influential samples, all factors were proven to be factors affecting the T/S competitiveness of the port. Meanwhile, in the analysis through AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) methodology about the order of weight among those factors, Cost competitiveness was answered as the most important factor. On the other hand, in the analysis to find the situation if Busan port conforms to those factors, Busan port was proven to satisfy those conditions to a moderate extent. In the analysis about the order of strength among those factors, Busan port was answered to have the highest strength in the geographic condition. However, it showed the bottom level of strength in the Cost competitiveness which was answered as the most important factor among samples for determining the T/S competitiveness of the port. This indicates that Government and Port Authority of Busan have to concentrate policy capabilities on the improvement of cost competitiveness of Busan port to enhance the T/S competitiveness. In this paper, four policy recommendations are given : Integration of Busan port operation into New port, Combining multiple operators into one or a few, Attracting Global mega carriers as the New port terminal operators, and Continuous Infrastructure expansion.
