  • Epiphytic communities on marine plants of Seychelles (Indian Ocean Island group associated with East Africa) were investigated in January - March of 1989 during the $15^{th}$ biological voyage of the research vessel cademic Alexander Nesmeyanov. A seagrass species, Thalassodendron ciliatum, and macroalgae (Sargassum spp. and Halimeda spp.) were tested for host substrates and biomass of their dominant epiphytes were assessed. Also, in order to understand the effect of shading and nutrient filtering by epiphytes, two series of photosynthetic rates were compared for Th. ciliatum host leaves having 10% and no epiphytes. Total of 84 species of algae and main taxons of benthic animals were identified from three different host plants. An average biomass of the epiphytes on Th. cihiatum was $184.6g\;kg^{-1}$ and dominant species were green alga Halimeda opuntia, red algae Dictyurus occidentalis and Gelidiella myrioclada. These dominant species and their biomass were remarkably varied with depth increment. On Sargassum spp., an average biomass of the epiphytes was $0.18g\;kg^{-1}$ and the maximum biomass was never exceeded $0.16g\;kg^{-1}$. In the case of Halimeda spp. an average biomass of the epiphytes was $8.0g\;kg^{-1}$, and dominant species were Peyssonnelia dubyi, sponges and decapods. Photosynthetic rates of Th. ciliatum were significantly reduced in the leaves having 10% epiphytes (1.72 times lower, t=6.718, p<0.001).

  • The objective of the present study is to investigate the effect of experimental parameters on the hydrodynamic characteristics in a horizontal tee-type evaporator using R-22. The experimental apparatus consisted of an unheated tee-type test section, a liquid-vapor separator, a preheated, mass flow meters, a plate heat exchanger, pump, and other measurement devices. The experimental parameters were mass flux(500 and 600kg/$m^2$s), inlet quality(0.1~0.3) and separation ratio(0.3~0.7). Absolute pressure at the inlet of the test section was 0.652 MPa. The branch-to-inlet inner diameter ratio was 0.61. Pressure gradient at the branch section was larger than that at the run section at the same separation ratio. Pressure drop per unit length increased at the run section and decreased at the branch section as the separation ratio increased. Pressure drop predicted by the separated flow model agreed with experimental data within -35 to +16%. Generally, predicted values showed similar trend with the data. Mass flow ratio of vapor refrigerant was affected by the inlet quality more than the mass flux.

  • Four Chamaecyparis obtusa plantations of 6, 9, 14, and 20 years were studied to investigate biomass, net production and nutrient distribution. There was wide difference in DBH and height growth of the stands according to site and soil conditions. Total biomasses of the stands of 14 years and 20 years located in gentle slopes and good soil conditions were 96.2t/ha and 145.0t/ha, and total net productions of those were 22.4t/ha/yr and 23.5t/ha/yr, respectively. Total biomasses of the stands of 6 years and 9 years located in steep slopes and poor soil conditions were 0.7t/ha and 14.0t/ha, and total net productions of those were 0.3t/ha/yr and 4.7t/ha/yr, respectively. As stand age increased, the ratios of stem wood and branches to total biomass and total net production increased, while the ratios of leaves to total biomass and total net production and the ratios of roots to total biomass decreased. Concentrations of N, P, K and Mg were greatest in the leaf and concentration of Ca was greatest in the stem bark. As stand age increased, N concentrations of the stem bark, branch, dead branch and root and K concentration of the branch decreased, while Ca concentration of the stem bark increased. Nutrient contents of the whole tree were great in order of N, K, Ca, Mg and P.

  • Composite steel plate shear wall (CSPSW) is a relatively novel structural system proposed to improve the performance of steel plate shear walls by adding one or two layers of concrete walls to the infill plate. In addition, the buckling of the infill steel plate has a significant negative effect on the shear strength and energy dissipation capacity of the overall systems. Accordingly, in this study, using the finite element (FE) method, the performance and behavior of composite steel shear walls using T-shaped stiffeners to prevent buckling of the infill steel plate and increase the capacity of CSPSW systems have been investigated. In this paper, after modeling composite steel plate shear walls with and without steel plates with finite element methods and calibration the models with experimental results, effects of parameters such as several stiffeners, vertical, horizontal, diagonal, and a combination of T-shaped stiffeners located in the composite wall have been investigated on the ultimate capacity, web-plate buckling, von-Mises stress, and failure modes. The results showed that the arrangement of stiffeners has no significant effect on the capacity and performance of the CSPSW so that the use of vertical or horizontal stiffeners did not have a significant effect on the capacity and performance of the CSPSW. On the other hand, the use of diagonal hardeners has potentially affected the performance of CSPSWs, increasing the capacity of steel shear walls by up to 25%.

  • ECG limb lead II signal widely used to diagnosis heart diseases and it is essential to detect ECG events (onsets, offsets and peaks of the QRS complex P wave and T wave) and extract them from ECG signal for heart diseases diagnoses. However, it is very difficult to develop standardized feature extraction formulas since ECG signals are varying on patients and disease types. In this paper, simple feature extraction method from normal and abnormal types of ECG signals is proposed. As a signal features, heart rate, PR interval, QRS interval, QT interval, interval between S wave and baseline, and T wave types are extracted. To show the validity of proposed method, Right Bundle Branch Block (RBBB), Left Bundle Branch Block (LBBB), Sinus Bradycardia, and Sinus Tachycardia data from MIT-BIH arrhythmia database are used for feature extraction and the extraction results showed higher extraction capability compare to conventional formula based extraction method.

  • Let $\mathcal{X}$ be a countably generated Hilbert module over a locally $C^*$-algebra $\mathcal{A}$ in multiplier module M($\mathcal{X}$) of $\mathcal{X}$. We propose the necessary and sufficient condition such that a sequence $\{h_n:n{{\in}}\mathbb{N}\}$ in M($\mathcal{X}$) is a standard frame of multipliers in $\mathcal{X}$. We also show that if T in $b(L_{\mathcal{A}}(\mathcal{X}))$, the space of bounded maps in set of all adjointable maps on $\mathcal{X}$, is surjective and $\{h_n:n{{\in}}\mathbb{N}\}$ is a standard frame of multipliers in $\mathcal{X}$, then $\{T{\circ}h_n:n{\in}\mathbb{N}}$ is a standard frame of multipliers in $\mathcal{X}$, too.

  • The inductive coupling theory in serially stacked $Bi_2$$Sr_2$$CaCu_2$$O_{8+x}$ intrinsic Josephson junctions predicts that the lattice structure of the Josephson vortices along the c axis gradually changes from the triangular to the rectangular lattice with increasing the vortex velocity. This lattice transition appears as voltage jumps or sub-branch splitting in the Josephson vortex-flow region of current-voltage characteristics (IVC). We report the IVC in external magnetic fields from 2 to 4 T. The stack, with the lateral size of 1.4${\times}$15 $u\m^2$, was fabricated by using the double-side cleaving technique. The sub-branches in the Josephson vortex-flow region, corresponding to a plasma propagation mode in serially coupled intrinsic Josephson junctions, were also observed in the range of 2∼4T. Switching from one branch to another in Josephson vortex-flow region suggests the structural transition of the moving Josephson vortex lattice.

  • Thermal stratification due to turbulence penetration and in-leakage of valve cause the large thermal stress, which lead to fatigue crack of the piping system of nuclear power plant. So it is needed that numerical and experimental study for the phenomenon is conducted because there have not yet been sufficient study for the relationship between turbulence penetration and thermal stratification. Therefore numerical analysis is done here and respected to give a fundamental method of the approach to the phenomenon.

  • The thermal conductivity of layered metal chalcogenides such as $MT_2$ (M = Mo, W; T = S, Se) shows a marked decrease after exfoliation and subsequent restacking process. Random stacking of two-dimensional crystalline sheets circumvents thermal conduction pathways along a longitudinal direction, which results in a reduction in thermal conductivity. $WS_2$ and $WSe_2$ compounds retain p-type conducting behavior after exfoliation and restacking with decreased electrical conductivity due to the change in carrier concentration. $MoSe_2$ compound exhibits metallic behavior < $130^{\circ}C$ with a small Seebeck coefficient, which results from metastable 1T-$MoSe_2$ structure of the restacked phase.
