Assessment of tributary water quality using integrated Water Quality Index (통합수질지수를 이용한 지류지천 수질평가)

  • In this study, the water quality index was calculated using the water quality monitoring data in the Nakdong River water system and the water quality status was compared with the living standard. The water quality index was selected by the RWQI method CCME-WQI currently used by the Ministry of Environment. The water quality items were selected as 7 items for pH, DO, EC, water temperature, TOC, T-N and T-P. The evaluation period was selected from the last three years (2013~2015) and water quality monitoring data measured within the period were used. As a result of the evaluation, the results of the previous evaluation showed similar tendency to the index of living environment, but the monthly evaluation showed different BOD and T-P results. Therefore, it is concluded that it is more reliable that more complex evaluation than single water quality evaluation is needed for efficient river management.

  • Recently, improvements in the standard of living in industrial area require establishment of a convenient residential environment in order to enhance the quality of living, To achieve such an environment, it is necessary to effectively reduce or prevent various environmental problems occurring in and around residential areas. In this study, We focused on the water-purification properties of concrete using effective micro-organisms. Such as SS, BOD, COD, T-P, T-N. The ability of the removal of SS, T-P, T-N in the test water is superior to concrete using effective micro-organisms. As a result, concrete using effective micro-organisms has sufficient performance of water-purification.

Phylogenetic and Morphological Comparison between Thamnaconus septentrionalis and T. modestus Collected in Southwest Seashore (서남해에서 채집된 말쥐치 (Thamnaconus modestus)와 유사종 (T. septentrionalis)의 형태 및 계통유전학적 비교)

  • Thamnaconus modestus, distributed in the Northwest Pacific, has high economic value and is used in various seafood. In this study, the morphological and genetic characteristics of T. modestus and T. septentrionalis were compared and analyzed. We observed the external and internal morphology of T. modestus, sketched skeletal elements, and analyzed phylogenetic evolutionary relationships using the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) gene on mitochondrial DNA compared to T. septentrionalis. The T. modestus observed in this study had blackish-brown patterns irregularly scattered on the gray-brown body, and the fins were blue-green. Genetic analysis results based on the COI sequences of T. modestus showed seven types of base sequence variation; however, the homology was more than 98.8%. In addition, as a result of comparison of the COI nucleotide sequences and phylogenetic analysis in Tetraodontiformes, two T. septentrionalis sequences (JN813099, MW485059) were similar to T. modestus with 99% homology, and the other two T. septentrionalis sequences (EF607583, KP267619) were similar to those of species belonging to another genus Thamnaconus with 95% homology with T. modestus. It was not easy to classify the species based on morphological characteristics, and phylogenetic analysis between T. modestus and T. septentrionalis confirmed the difference in classification. These results provide the external and internal morphology of T. modestus and will be used as important information for the taxonomic study of T. modestus and T. septentrionalis.

Spatio-temporal Fluctuations with Influences of Inflowing Tributary Streams on Water Quality in Daecheong Reservoir (대청호의 시공간적 수질 변화 특성 및 호수내 유입지천의 영향)

  • The objectives of this study were to analyze the longitudinal gradient and temporal variations of water quality in Daecheong Reservoir in relation to the major inflowing streams from the watershed, during 2001~2010. For the study, we selected 7 main-stream sites of the reservoir along the main axis of the reservoir, from the headwater to the dam and 8 tributary streams. In-reservoir nutrients of TN and TP showed longitudinal declines from the headwater to the dam, which results in a distinct zonation of the riverine ($R_z$, M1~M3), transition ($T_z$, M4~M6), and lacustrine zone ($L_z$, M7) in water quality, as shown in other foreign reservoirs. Chlorophyll-a (CHL) and BOD as an indicator of organic matter, were maximum in the $T_z$. Concentration of total phosphorus (TP) was the highest (8.52 $mg\;L^{-1}$) on March in the $R_z$, and was the highest (165 ${\mu}g\;L^{-1}$) in the $L_z$ on July. Values of TN was the maximum (377 ${\mu}g\;L^{-1}$) on August in the $R_z$, and was the highest (3.76 $mg\;L^{-1}$) in the $L_z$ on August. Ionic dilution was evident during September~October, after the monsoon rain. The mean ratios of TN : TP, as an indicator of limiting factor, were 88, which indicates that nitrogen is a surplus for phytoplankton growth in this system. Nutrient analysis of inflowing streams showed that major nutrient sources were headwater streams of T1~T2 and Ockcheon-Stream of T5, and the most influential inflowing stream to the reservoir was T5, which is located in the mid-reservoir, and is directly influenced by the waste-water treatment plants. The key parameters, influenced by the monsoon rain, were TP and suspended solids (SS). Empirical models of trophic variables indicated that variations of CHL in the $R_z$ ($R^2$=0.044, p=0.264) and $T_z$ ($R^2$=0.126, p=0.054) were not accounted by TN, but were significant (p=0.032) in the $L_z$. The variation of the log-transformed $I_r$-CHL was not accounted ($R^2$=0.258, p=0.110) by $I_w$-TN of inflowing streams, but was determined ($R^2$=0.567, p=0.005) by $I_w$-TP of inflowing streams. In other words, TP inputs from the inflowing streams were the major determinants on the in-reservoir phytoplankton growth. Regression analysis of TN : TP suggested that the ratio was determined by P, rather than N. Overall, our data suggest that TP and suspended solids, during the summer flood period, should be reduced from the eutrophication control and P-input from Ockcheon-Stream should be controlled for water quality improvement.

Study on Change of Algae Occurrence Before & After Gangcheon and Ipoh Weir Construction at Namhan River (남한강 강천보와 이포보 건설 전·후 조류 발생의 변화에 대한 연구)

  • This study was carried out to verify change and relationship between the concentration of chlorophyll-a and environmental factors including weather, water quality and discharge at before & after Gangcheon and Ipoh weir construction at Namhan river, based on the weather and water quality data provided by the measuring network. We classified the period of before & after weir construction by the cluster analysis with Ward's method, and also through the correlation analysis between the concentration of chlorophyll-a and environmental factors, the influence factors related with algae occurrence(Chlorophyll-a) were analyzed. The result by cluster analysis based on data of the total 12 factors (water temperature, rainfall, daylight, pH, DO, BOD, COD, T-N, $NH_3-N$, $NO_3-N$, T-P, $PO_4-P$) from 2005 to 2015 indicated a clear classification into two periods, before(2006-2007) & after (2012-2013) weir construction. After weir construction, class of BOD at Gangcheon weir was better than before, changed from II class to Ia class, and likewise class of BOD at Ipoh weir was improved from II-III class to Ia-IIclass. Also T-P and T-N concentration also were to be improved in general after weir construction. Concentraion of Chlorophyll-a afterGangcheon and Ipoh weir construction was to be decreased. However, frequency of algae warning was increased from 9 to 15 after Ipoh weir construction due to increasing of HRT and water temperature. After weirs construction, the result of correlation analysis between weather, water quality and discharge and concentration of chlorophyll-a indicated a positive correlation, order of BOD(0.579) > COD(0.413) > temperature(0.237), and a negative correlation, order of $NO_3-N$(-0.344) > T-N(-0.293) at Gangcheon weir. And there were likewise positive correlation, order of BOD(0.795) > pH(0.581) > Water temperature(0.422), and negative correlation, order of $NO_3-N$(-0.457) > T-N(-0.371) > $NH_3-N$(-0.326) > $PO_4-P$(-0.288) > Discharge(-0.213) after Ipoh weir construction. Although water quality after Ipoh weir construction was generally improved, increase of frequency of algae warning occurrence was influenced by change of water conditions such as reduction of the velocity, increase of HRT and water temperature, etc impacted strongly by change of the stream flow more than change of water environments after weir construction.

  • 본 연구에서는 홍천 자운지구 고랭지 농업지역을 대상으로 장기간의 유역조사와 하천 모니터링을 통해 관측된 축척 데이터를 이용하여 비점오염저감 효과를 정량화하고 추후 모니터링 자료로서 탁수와 비점오염원 저감시설의 저감효과와 비점오염원의 효율적인 관리를 위한 기초자료를 제공하고자 하였다. 모니터링 결과 소양호 유역의 오염부하(1차 강우사상) 중 홍천군 자운지구의 유역단위 비점오염 저감효과의 분석에는 강우량과 단위면적당 오염부하를 이용하였으며, 자운천은 SS 5,396,761 kg, COD 82,261 kg, BOD 57,329 kg, T-N 68,711 kg, T-P 3,091 kg이었으며, 오염부하(2차 강우사상)는 SS 320,293 kg, COD 34,588 kg, BOD 22,350 kg, T-N 48,954 kg, T-P 640 kg으로 나타났다. 또한 소양호 유역의 EMC(1차 강우사상) 중 자운천은 SS 829.9 mg/L, COD 12.7 mg/L, BOD 8.8 mg/L, T-N 10.567 mg/L, T-P 0.475 mg/L 이었으며, EMC(2차 강우사상)는 SS 68.6 mg/L, COD 7.4 mg/L, BOD 4.8 mg/L, T-N 10.487 mg/L, T-P 0.137 mg/L로 나타났다. 소양호 유역의 단위면적당 오염부하(1차 강우사상) 중 자운천은 SS 402.0 kg/ha/event, COD 6.1 kg/ha/event, BOD 4.3 kg/ha/event, T-N 5.118 kg/ha/event, T-P 0.230 kg/ha/event 이었으며, 오염부하(2차 강우사상)는 SS 23.9 kg/ha/event, COD 2.6 kg/ha/event, BOD 1.7 kg/ha/event, T-N 3.646 kg/ha/event, T-P 0.048 kg/ha/event로 나타났다. 오염부하에서는 1차 강우에 비해 2차 강우에서는 SS 5,076,468 mg/L, COD 47,673 mg/L, BOD 34,979 mg/L, T-N 19,757 mg/L, T-P 2451 mg/L로 1차 강우사상에 비해 오염부하가 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 또한 EMC에서는 1차 강우에 비해 2차 강우에서는 SS 761.3 mg/L, COD 5.3 mg/L, BOD 4.0 mg/L, T-N 0.080 mg/L, T-P 0.338 mg/L로 1차 강우사상에 비해 EMC가 저감되었다. 단위면적당 오염부하는 1차 강우에 비해 2차 강우에서는 SS 378.1 mg/L, COD 3.5 mg/L, BOD 2.6 mg/L, T-N 1.472 mg/L, T-P 0.182 mg/L로 1차 강우사상에 비해 EMC가 저감되었다. 강우량과 강우강도 그리고 영농활동의 시기에 따른 EMC와 단위면적당 오염부하는 큰 차이를 보였으며, 예년에 비해 적은 강수량으로 인해 탁수와 비점오염부하의 배출이 상대적으로 적었던 것으로 판단된다. 소양호 유역과 같은 넓은 유역에서 시행되는 비점오염원의 저감연구는 오랜 시간 동안 자료를 축적해야 유의미한 평가가 이루어질 수 있으므로 장기적이고 지속적인 모니터링을 통한 유량 데이터 자료구축과 수질분석뿐만 아니라, 발생되는 비점오염 물질의 관리를 위한 체계적인 연구가 지속되어야하며, 아울러 농민의 인식도 변화 등을 포함하는 많은 인자들을 정밀히 조사하고 다각도로 분석하여 저감효과에 대한 지속적인 연구가 필요하다.

Assessment of Pollutant Loads for Water Enhancement in the Jeongeupcheon of Dongjin River (동진강 정읍천 유역 오염부하량 평가)

  • The influence of pollutant loads on the water quality in Jeongeupcheon of Dongjin river was evaluated from Jan. 2002 to Dec. 2003 for two years. The range of pH in water was $6.87{\sim}7.53$. The EC level in upstream ranged from 83 to $95\;{\mu}s/cm$ with the highest value in autumn. The BOD level in upstream rang ed from 0.61 to 1.27 mg/L, which would be I grade according to water quality criteria by Ministry of Environment, but that in downstream was III grade. The average T-N level in midstream ranged from 6.10 to 10.84 mg/L which was the highest values throughout the stretch of the river. The average T-P levels ranged from. 0.41 to 0.98 mg/L Jeongeupcheon was suitable for the agricultural usage based upon one year analysis of river water quality. The effluent loads of BOD was high in midstream (J4) with 553 kg/day. The major sources of T-N loads were livestock, population, land use, and industry in order. The effluent loads of T-N was high in J4 by population and industry while that of T-N was high in J5 and J6 by livestock and land use. The delivered loads of T-N was high in downstream The delivered loads of T-P was low as compared with those of BOD and T-N. The delivery ratio of T-N ranged from 6 to 38%.

Estimation of Water Quality and Trophic State in the Hapcheon Lake (합천호 수질 및 영양단계에 대한 평가)

  • The yearly average water qualities of the Whang river, which flows into the Hapcheon lake, were COD $3.1{\sim}4.2\;mg/L$, T-N $2.460{\sim}3.550\;mg/L$ and T-P $0.111{\sim}0.201\;mg/L$ during $1996{\sim}2001$. The yearly average COD concentration of Hapcheon lake was increased from 1.9 mg/L (in 1996) to 2.7 mg/L (in 2000). However, T-N and T-P concentration of Hapcheon lake did not show increasing trend over the 6 year period During $1996{\sim}2001$, the yearly average concentrations of T-N, T-P were $1.383{\sim}1.792\;mg/L$, $0.018{\sim}0.023\;mg/L$ respectively. The correlation coefficients between chlorophyll ${\alpha}$ and T-N, T-P, rainfall intensity, water temperature were 0.382, 0.372, 0.589, and 0.526, respectively. Therefore, the rainfall and water temperature appeared to play an important role far the variations of chlolophyll ${\alpha}$ concentration in the Hapcheon lake. Trophic state of the Hapcheon lake were evaluated to be in the range of mesotrophic to eutrophic.

An Experimental Study on Flow Characteristics Around Culvert According to Blocked Area (차단면적 변화에 따른 암거주변 흐름특성 실험연구)

  • 암거는 일반적으로 용수나 배수용의 수로가 도로, 철도, 제방 등의 아래에 매설 된 수로를 지칭한다. 이러한 암거는 산업발전으로 사회기반시설의 신설 및 확충, 재정비 등으로 많이 활용되고 있다. 최근 들어 기후로 인한 재해가 급증하면서 이러한 시설물에 대한 안정성 및 관리에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있는 것이 현실이다. 특히 소하천은 집수면적 및 유로연장이 짧고 하상경사가 급하기 때문에 홍수에 취약하다. 즉, 빨라진 유속으로 인해 구조물 주변의 세굴에 의한 유실, 토사유출로 인한 하상퇴적, 부유물로 인한 차단으로 인해 통수에 지장을 받아 피해가 발생하게 된다. 이러한 암거시설물 피해는 2차 피해로 이어질 수 있으며 사회기반시설 파괴로 도시기능이 마비되고 인근 주변지역에 침수로 인한 재산 및 인명피해까지 발생시킬 수 있는 피해 잠재능력을 보유하고 있다. 그러나 피해에 대한 예방대책은 유지관리를 통해 지속적으로 관리하는 것이 대부분의 지침 등에 소개된 내용들이다. 본 연구에서는 암거를 대상으로 암거의 폐색으로 인해 암거주변에서 변화되는 흐름특성을 축소모형을 통해 검토하고자 하였다. 암거 축소모형실험은 1.5m 폭을 갖는 직선수로에서 수행하였으며, 암거모형은 도로암거표준도(2008)를 참조하여 $3m{\times}3m$ 수로암거를 대상으로 1/10 축소모형을 제작하였다. 암거유입부 퇴적으로 인한 암거의 차단률(차단면적/암거단면적)은 차단이 발생하지 않는 0% 조건에서부터 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50% 조건에 대해 실험을 수행하였다. 실험결과 차단에 따른 암거 상류단의 수위는 차단이 없는 암거의 경우에 비해 차단율이 높아질수록 암거유입부 수위는 20.4% ~ 82.7% 상승하는 것으로 나타났다. 암거의 차단률이 40% 이상일 경우 높아진 수위로 인해 암거통로의 윗상면부까지 다다르고 있으며 50%일 경우 암거를 통과하는 흐름이 자유수면흐름이 아닌 오리피스 흐름이 발생하는 것으로 나타났다. 암거유입부 차단으로 인한 암거주변의 최대유속은 암거 직하류부에서 주로 발생하여 암거 유출부에서의 최대유속은 차단율이 증가할수록 선형적으로 증가하는 것으로 나타났으며 암거 유출부에서의 유속은 차단전의 조건(0%) 대비 4.2% ~ 35.5% 까지 상승하는 것으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 결과를 토대로 고려하였을 때 대부분 산지부에서 설치되는 암거의 경우 유속이 불가피하게 증가하게 됨으로 유속에 따른 유속조절방안(차단 및 우회시설) 및 세굴대책을 세워야 할 것으로 판단된다.

Species Diversity of Riparian Vegetation by Soil Chemical Properties and Water Quality in the Upper Stream of Mankyeong River (만경강 상류 수질 및 식생분포와 토양환경에 따른 하천식생의 종 다양성)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate influence of chemical properties in the riparian on the species diversity and to get plant information for enhancement of natural purification in Mankyeong River. The concentration of total nitrogen was high in Jeonju and Sam stream, while that of total nitrogen showed the highest peak in Winter. Concentrations of $NH_4-N$ was $0.01{\sim}0.06\;mg/L$ in Gosan and Soyang stream. The water quality of upstream along with Mankyeong River was suitable for the irrigation source. The riparian vegetation was investigated by Zurich-Montpellier school's method from June, 2001 to September, 2002. The number of riparian plants were 59 families, 129 genera, 165 species, 20 varieties in Gosancheon, on the while 53 families, 111 genera, 141 species, 19 varieties in Soyangcheon. The number of riparian plants in Bari basin was higher than that of other sites namely, 73 families, 134 genera, 218 species, 33 varieties. Riparian vegetation was consisted of 12 plant communities. The contents of organic matter, total nitrogen and electrical conductivity had negative relationship with species diversity (Species richness index, Heterogeneity index, Species evenness index Species number). On the while, species diversity had positive relationship with soil pH. Species diversify of the plant communities were affected by topography and disturbance.
