The purposes of this study were to identify the changes of postprandial blood pressure and pulse rates of elderly living in nursing homes by time and position after a meal. Blood pressure and pulse rates of 141 elderly aged over 65 years were measured at before the meal to 90 minutes after the meal by 15 min. interval. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, repeated measures of ANOVA, ANCOVA, and t-test using the SPSS program. There were no significant differences in change of systolic blood pressure and pulse rates by time between sitting group and lying group after meal. The biggest drops in systolic pressure in sitting and lying position were occurred at 30 min and 45min respectively after the meal. There were no significant change in pulse rates except for the immediately after meal in lying position. To prevent complications of postprandial blood pressure reduction, nurses should carefully monitor blood pressure of elderly in lying position at least from 30 min. till to 90 min. after the meal.

The purpose of this study was to explore the prevalence of hypertension in Haiti and to describe regional characteristics, and thus to speculate Haitian specific regional risk factors. This is a descriptive and comparative study. Subjects were 145 male/female Haitians, who aged between 30 and 59 and have lived in rural areas, had their hypertension indicators being screened. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test and ANOVA. More than four fifth of the subjects (82.8%) showed pre-hypertensive or moderate to severe hypertensive condition. 65.5% of the total had abnormal pulse pressure ($PP{\geq}50$) and 13.8% of the sample showed tachycardia (Heart $Rate{\geq}100$). Female Haitian tended to have higher diastolic blood pressure and faster heart rate than male Haitian. The residents who lived in Part 5-1 area with less accessibility to drinking water tended to have higher systolic and diastolic pressure. Hydration status of Haitians was highly considered as an affecting factor on the distribution of hypertension as evidenced by different level of accessibility to drinking water.

After open heart surgery, the patient must be carefully observed and adequately managed for his survival. This report reviewed 10 cases of ventricular septal defect and 12 mitral valvular diseases as hemodynamics early after open heart surgery. For postoperative 24 hours, clinical status was evaluated for left atrial pressure, central venous pressure,DP[LAP-CVP], peak systolic pressure, heart rate, urine amount, and other clinical findings. Especially, on postoperative fourth hour, cardiac output was most decreased, when the changes of monitoring were compared with two groups with or without using cardiotonics. Finally, we concluded as followings; 1.Postoperatively, variation of CVP was noted in VSD, but mitral valvular disease was more variable change of LAP. 2.DP was 1.3\ulcorner.4 cmH2O in VSD, and 6.4\ulcorner.2 cmH2O in mitral valvular disease. 3.Parameter using cardiotonic was CVP in VSD, and LAP in mitral valvular disease.

The aim of this experiment was to investigate the effects of a mixture of Scutellariae Radix, Coptidis Rhizoma and Coptidis Rhizoma water extracts on the blood pressure, plasma renin activity, plasma levels of aldosterone and atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR). The results of this study were as follows: 1. Systolic blood pressure decreased significantly after the administration of a mixture of Scutellariae Radix, Coptidis Rhizoma, and Coptidis Rhizoma water extract 0.2 ml/200g. 2. Plasma renin activity and plasma levels of ANP were not changed after the administration of a mixture of Scutellariae Radix, Coptidis Rhizoma and Coptidis Rhizoma water extracts, 3. Plasma levels of aldosterone was increased significantly after the administration of a mixture of Scutellariae Radix, Coptidis Rhizoma and Coptidis Rhizoma water extracts 0.1 ml/200g.

This study was designed to clarify the effect of juniper essential oil on the autonomic nervous system. Blood pressure and heart rate variability (HRV) reflecting autonomic nervous system activity were measured. The systolic and diastolic blood pressure were decreased by inhalation of juniper essential oil. High frequency (HF) power level, an indicator of parasympathetic nervous system activity was increased in the stimulation of juniper essential oil. High frequency/low frequency (HF/LF) ratio, an indicator of sympathetic nervous system activity was decreased by the juniper essential oil. These results suggest that juniper essential oil has a modulatory effect on the autonomic nervous system activity.

There have been few reports documenting the outcome of arterial swich operations(ASO) in selected patients with transposition of great arteries(TGA) and with left ventricular outflow tract obstruction(LVOTO). In the case of TGA with LVOTO, if the atrial septal defect(ASD) is large and the ventricular septal defect(VSD) is restricive, this deprives the left ventricle(LV) of approporiate preload and could lead to underdevelopment of the ventircular mass and lead poor LV performance after the arterial switch operation, dspite a high pressure in the LV preoperatively. Because an increase in the systolic ventricular pressure is not necessarily paralleled by an increase in ventricular mass, which is also essential for optimal ventricular performance after the operation. We report here a case of rapid LV training after ASO in TGA with unprepared LV (because of large ASD and restrictive VSD) despite a high pressure in the LV(due to LVOTO) preoperatively.

The present study examined the effect of a methanol extract of Evodiae Fructus on the blood pressure in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR). The systolic blood pressure was measured after rats were pretreated with phentolamine, propranolol, or $N_{\omega}$-nitro-$_{L}$-arginine methyl ester(NAME) and subsequently received methanol extract of Evodiae Fructus. In SHR, intraperitoneal administration of methanol extract of Evodiae Fructus (0.5 mg/kg) produced antihypertensive effect that lasted for at least 4 hours. Antihypertensive effect of Evodiae Fructus was more stronger than that with $\alpha$-adrenergic receptor antagonist phentolamine and was not affected by $\beta$-adrenergic receptor antagonist propranolol. The antihypertensive effect of Evodiae Fructus was abolished by pretreatment of NAME. Our findings suggest Evodiae Fructus has an hypertensive effect, which may be mediated through nitric oxide synthesis.s.

Since the first report by Freeman of renal artery repair for renovascular hypertension in 1954, there has been a gradual improvement in the results of renovascular reconstruction. This is case report of renovascular hypertension due to diffuse primary arteritis, which was performed aorto-bllateral renal bypass graft with using of Y -woven dacron graft. This 33 y-o male has complained intermittent headache, facial edema & malignent hypertension symptoms for 1.5 years. He had the history of Rt. B-K amputation due to unhealed wound after trauma of the Rt. great toe about 7 years ago. The abdominal aortography revealed nearly not visualized the Rt. renal artery & severe narrowing of the Lt. renal arterly. During postop. course, Blood pressure was well controlled. At postop. 3rd week, systolic pressure was down to 130-140mmHg But, diastolic pressure was remained to 100-110mmHg. At postop. 30th day, exploration was done due to intestinal obstruction signs. But severe ischemic enteritis was occured due to fibrotic obstruction of the superior mesenteric artery. The next day, he was dead. in spite of Rt. common iliac artery-sup. mesenteric artery bypass graft.

The aim of this experiments was to investigate the effect of Lycii Fructus water extracts on the blood pressure, plasma renin activity and plasma levels of atrial natriuretic peptide in two-kidney one clip Goldblatt hypertensive rats. Systolic blood pressure was decreased significantly after administration of Lycii Fructus water extracts. Plasma levels of atrial natriuretic peptide was increased significantly after adminstration of Lycii Fructus water extracts. Plasma renin activity was not changed after adminstration of Lycii Fructus water extracts. Thease results suggested that the depressor response after adminstration of Lycii Fructus water extracts were related with the changes of the plasma levels of atrial natriuretic peptide.

Objectives : In order to study effects of drop of blood pressure by Semen Persicae Pharmacupuncture a clinical study was investigated. Methods : Semen Persicae Pharmacupuncture at Sp9 and Sp10 on 52 hypertension patients who are treating on Dong-Eui Oriental Medical Hospital. Results : 1. After one times Semen Persicae Pharmacupuncture at Sp9 and Sp10, the systolic blood pressure were droped. 2. After two times Semen Persicae Pharmacupuncture at Sp9 and Sp10, the diastolic blood pressure were droped significantly. 3. Headache, Dizziness that the subjective symptoms were droped after two times Semen Persicae Pharmacupuncture at Sp9 and Sp10. Conclusions : Continous Semen Persicae Pharmacupuncture at Sp9 and Sp10 implies drop of blood pressure and improvement of subjective symptoms.
