  • Two new species of poecilostomatoid copepods, each belonging to the genera Myicola (Myicolidae) and Conchyliurus (Clausidiidae), are described, based on specimens taken from the mantle cavity of the bivalve Dosinella penicillata (Reeve). The host bivalve was collected from the intertidal mud flat near Inchon in the Yellow Sea.

  • Two new harpacticoid species of family Thalestridae are described on the basis of the specimens collected from the shallow sublittoral sand bottom or seagrasses of rocky shore in South Korea. Dactylopusia pauciarticulata n. sp. is discernible from its 19 congeners by the 6-articulated antennule. Paradactylopodia koreana n. sp. most resembles P. striata Kunz, 1973 of its seven congeners, but obviously distinguished from it by the shape of male leg 2 endopod.

  • Specimens of Bosmina longirostris collected from various freshwater habitats of 84 localities in South Korea from October 1981 to August 1997 were examined, and seasonal changes of the cladoceran populations in Late Kwangjuho from October 1995 to August 1977 were analysed. In this paper, B. longirostris in Korea was redescribed and figured, with a discussion of morphological characteristics. Some ecological features of the species were noted.

  • Two new species belonging to genus Mycale are described from the waters around Geojedo Island and Gageodo Island, Korea. Mycale (M.) geojensis n. sp. seems close to M. (M.) adhaerens parvasigma Hoshino, 1981, but our new species has three categories of anisochelae. M. (Aegogropila) hentscheli n. sp. is closest to M. (A.) obscura (Carter, 1882) in shape and spicule, but has no large sigma.

  • We analyzed and compared profiles of flavonols extracted from leaves and exocarps of the grape Kyoho by TLC, HPLC and UV spectrophotometry. In the exocarps, quercetin 3-O-glucoside was the main compound while isorhamnetin 3-O-glycoside (I) was present in minor amounts. In leaves, on the other hand, quercetin 3-O-glucoside and quercetin 3-O-glucoside-7-O-glucronide were the major compounds while isorhamnetin 3-O-glycoside (II) and kaempferol 3, 7-O-diglycoside were present in minor amounts.

  • Two freshwater cyclopoid species including a new species are added to Korean copepod fauna: Ochridacyclops coreensis n. sp. and Itocyclops yezoensis (Ito, 1953). Both species were collected from the semi-subterranean waters like springs and wells. The present paper deals with the description of the new species and the systematic accounts on the two species, based on the morphological character comparison with the related congeners.

  • A new perlid stonefly, Chinoperla rhododendrona n. sp., is described from a tropical mountain stream in central Vietnam. The male adult of this species can be characterized by the strongly setous body and unique L-shaped genital structure. The female adult can be distinguished by the posteromedially sclerotized and widely notched subgenital plate. The egg is unique among its congeners as it has smooth chorion and long and narrow collar. Illustrations of diagnostic characters are provided.

  • One novel species, Phaeacius yunnanensis n. sp. and three species new to China, Brettus albolimbattus, Hyllus lacertosus and Ptocasius kinhi of the jumping spider.belonging to the family Salticidae, are described based on the materials collected from Yunnan Province, China. The new species is similar to Phaecius lancerarius, but can be distinguished by secondary conductor covers on the emblus. That of the latter below the emblous, retro1aterial tibial apophysis, is much more slender and with an abdominal pattern.

  • We obtained four zoeal stages of Harrovia japonica from laboratory-hatched material. They are described, illustrated in detail, and compared with those of other known species in the family Pilumnidae. The general zoeal morphology of H. japonica coincides well with those of other known species of the Eumedoninae (excluding Echinoecus pentagonus) and Pilumnus minutus of the Pilumninae. In order to facilitate the study of planktoncollected material, we provide a key for the identification of seven known zoeae of the Eumedoninae from the IndoPacific.
