Hysteretic characteristics of medium- to low-rise RC structures controlled by both shear and flexure evaluated by FEA and pseudo-dynamic testing

  • The purpose of this study is to propose new hysteretic characteristics of medium- to low-rise RC structures controlled by both shear and flexure. Through previous study, the dual lateral force-resisting system composed of shear and flexural failure members has a new failure mechanism that cooperates to enhance the flexural capacity of the flexural failure member even after the failure of the shear member, and the existing theoretical equation significantly underestimates the ultimate strength. In this study, the residual lateral strength mechanism of the dual lateral force-resisting system was analyzed, and, as a result, an equation for estimating the residual flexural strength of each shear-failure member was proposed. The residual flexural strength of each shear-failure member was verified in comparison with the structural testing results obtained in previous study, and the proposed residual flexural strength equation for shear-failure members was tested for reliability using FEA, and its applicable range was also determined. In addition, restoring-force characteristics for evaluating the seismic performance of the dual lateral force-resisting system (nonlinear dynamic analysis), reflecting the proposed residual flexural strength equation, were proposed. Finally, the validity of the restoring-force characteristics of RC buildings equipped with the dual lateral force-resisting system proposed in the present study was verified by performing pseudo-dynamic testing and nonlinear dynamic analysis based on the proposed restoring-force characteristics. Based on this comparative analysis, the applicability of the proposed restoring-force characteristics was verified.

  • A simulation model is developed to analyze the large-structure driving system and its integrated behavior in the whole weapon system. It models every component in the driving system such as mechanical and electrical characteristics, and it is programmed by simulation language in a way which strongly reflects the system's real time dynamics and reduces computation time as well. A useful parameter identification method is proposed, and it is tuned on the given physical system. The model is validated through comparing to real test, and it is applied to analysis and prediction of integrated system functions relating to the fire control system.

  • The longitudinal instability (POGO) of the rocket should not be occurred during the whole flight time for the large class liquid propulsion system to complete a mission successfully. The longitudinal instability is caused by the resonance between the propulsion system and rocket structure in the low frequency range below 50Hz, ordinarily. Analysis on the low frequency dynamic characteristics on the liquid propulsion system with staged combustion cycle engine system was performed as a preliminary study on the longitudinal instability analysis.

  • The river water intake system composed of the filter block, without installation of weirs in a channel, was proposed. To apply it to rivers, analysis of hydraulic characteristics is needed. In this study, the hydraulic experiment on the characteristics of flowrate passing through the river water intake system was carried out. The filter block was produced using riprap and stainless steel bead at the channel bottom. The experiment was carried out under various flow conditions and the flowrate passing through the intake system was measured. As the water depth approaching the intake system became deeper, the flowrate diverting to the intake system increased. As the Froude number increased, the flowrate diverting to the intake system decreased. The same trend was shown regardless of the characteristics of a filter block in the intake system. A constant discharge coefficient was shown regardless of the Froude number but it changed according to the size of a riprap and a stainless steel bead in the filter block. It was found that the discharge coefficient increases with the 0.6 power of the material size.

  • This thesis, which mainly focuses on the characteristics of the Chinese arbitration system, will mainly deal with three characteristics and analyze the causes that directly or indirectly influence them. The first characteristic is China does not recognize ad hoc arbitration. Ad hoc arbitration is the initial form of arbitration, and it occupies an important position in many countries; however, China's judicial system does not recognize it. There are many disadvantages for building a system of ad hoc arbitration in China; i. e., the arbitration system in China is undeveloped and shot-time established, and it lacks social and civil society basis, along with a credit system, which the Western ad hoc arbitration relies on. The second characteristic is the existence of excessive judicial supervision and control over arbitration in China. Judicial supervision over arbitration has been the customary practice in each country of the modern world, but sharp variation exists in the legal stipulations and the courts' attitude toward the standard to be applied in the supervision over arbitration. In China, there has always been a controversy over judicial supervision, and the standards applied in the supervision over arbitration by courts in different regions are less than identical. The last characteristic is the existence of a combination of mediation with arbitration, which is called Arb-Med in China. Such means that in the process of arbitration, the arbitrator may conduct mediation proceedings for the case it is handling if both parties agree to do so. Under the Chinese law, Arb-Med may lead to a binding and enforceable outcome. However, it has several legal disadvantages and almost no country adopts this system. China still insists that this system will go on because Arb-Med was first made in China, and its effect was proven through long-time practice in CIETAC.

  • Regenerative energy generated by regenerative braking of DC traction can cause the system malfunction or damage to the rectifier, or malfunction of the power conversion device in power supply system by DC Line voltage rise in feeder line. Regenerative energy storage system using super capacitor is one of the ways to stabilize DC line voltage. In this paper, energy storage system of DC traction system using super-capacitor bank is implemented and using the field measurement data of the station N and the station S on the Line 2, the operation characteristics of line voltage caused by regenerative energy of electric trains are verified. Also, charge/discharge characteristics of super capacitor are verified as well. Thus, we can verify the operation characteristics of super-capacitor bank for regenerative energy storage system installed in DC Traction. And if we can use field measurement data of DC line voltage, we have obtained cost reduction. The stabilization of the system will be improved by measuring the operation characteristics of regenerative energy storage system in certain section operated by DC traction and predicting the capacity and lifetime of super-capacitor.

Thermal Buckling Characteristics for Thermal Protection System Panel Using Ritz Method (리츠 법을 이용한 열방어 시스템 패널의 열 좌굴 특성 연구)

  • High speed vehicles are subjected to high thermal loadings due to aerodynamic heating during ascent and reentry. Since a thermal protection system panel is mechanically constrained, it may cause thermal buckling under excessive thermal loadings. The thermal buckling could disturb the field of flow and make aerodynamic characteristics unstable. It is thus necessary to design the thermal protection system panel to prevent thermal buckling. This study defines the analytical model of temperature distribution using the finite difference method for the thermal protection system panel with large temperature differences inside and outside. This paper proposes the approximate model of the thermal buckling characteristics for the thermal protection system panel through the use of the Ritz method. The validity of the present method was verified by comparing the results of the finite element analysis. Furthermore, this research performs the parametric analysis of the thermal buckling characteristics for the thermal protection system panel by using the approximate model.

  • Spray combustion characteristics of a conducting fuel electrospray have been studied for clean combustion technology. The multiplexing system which can retain the characteristics of the cone-jet mode is inevitable for the electrospray application. Charged micro droplets can be obtained in almost uniform size during operating the electrospray in the cone-jet mode. This experiment device set up the multiplexed grooved nozzle system with the extractor. Using the grooved nozzle, the stable cone-jet mode can be achieved at the each groove in the grooved mode. This electrospray system was applied to the diffusion combustion. It is the first step to discover the diffusion combustion characteristics of the electrospray. In case of the single grooved nozzle electrospray, the diffusion flames are occurred at each jet of grooved mode and they are quite stable. The exhaust gas analysis was indicated that there is the critical point which can make very stable diffusion combustion.

  • The goal of this research is to get a measuring system for absorption characteristics of electromagnetic wave absorbers in ferrite type which are lat grid-type special type etc. It is however very difficult to measure the absorption characteristics as in low frequency as in 30 MHz, To solve the problem therefore we propose a standing wave method and a measurement method in time domain using parallel striplines construct the measuring system and measure the characteristics of ferrite microwave absorbers in grid type using the proposed measuring system.

  • This study proposes the construction of 2-3 dimensional attractor system for cutting characteristics evaluation of metals. Also this paper aims to find the optimal cutting conditions of diamond turning machine by measuring surface form and roughness to perform the cutting experiment of metals, which are aluminum, with diamond tool. As well, according to change cutting conditions such as feed rate, using diamond turning machine to perform cutting processing, by measuring cutting force and surface roughness and according to cutting conditions the aluminum about cutting properties. Trajectory changes in the attractor indicated a substantial difference in attractor characteristics. Constructed 2-3 dimensional attractor system in this study can be used for cutting characteristics evaluation of metals.
