  • Railway system is consisted of various resources such as rail-line, signal, and railcar. It is necessary to efficiently utilize these limited and expensive resources as much as possible up to given line capacity. So far, we treat the line capacity as the criteria for evaluating investment alternatives or for restricting train frequencies, and this criteria is calculated statical and experimental numerical formula. But, line capacity has special attribute that changes dynamically according to operational conditions, so there is a need of new line capacity estimation system. In this paper, we present an improved systematic line capacity model. The proposed model has three main components ; TPS(lain performance simulator), PES(parameter evaluation simulator), LCS(line capacity simulator). The concept of each sub-component is described, including the evaluation method of capacity parameters. And capacity parameter evaluation and estimation results using sample line section data are presented.

  • There are two methodologies to increase transport capacity of railway. One is to invest railroad equipment or vehicles, and the other is to improve operation efficiency through optimization. All of these is intended to increase transport capacity by improving the line capacity, So far, we treat the line capacity as the criteria for evaluating investment alternatives or for restricting train frequencies, and this criteria is calculated statical and experimental numerical formula. But, line capacity has special attribute that changes dynamically according to operational conditions, so there is a need of new line capacity estimation system. Korea Railroad Research Institute(KRRI) proposed a new line capacity estimation system based on the probability simulation method. In this research. we perform analysis of line capacity for the railway improvement alternatives, and to represent the results.

Capacity Improvement with Dynamic Channel Assignment and Reuse Partitioning in Cellular Systems

  • In cellular mobile communications, how to achieve optimum system capacity with limited frequency spectrum is one of the main research issues. Many dynamic channel assignment (DCA) schemes have been proposed and studied to allocate the channels more efficiently, thus, the capacity of cellular systems is improved. Reuse partitioning (RP) is another technique to achieve higher capacity by reducing the overall reuse distance. In this paper, we present a network-based DCA scheme with the implementation of RP technique, namely dynamic reuse partitioning with interference information (DRP-WI). The scheme aims to minimize the effect of assigned channels on the availability of channels for use in the interfering cells and to reduce their overall reuse distances. The performance of DRP-WI is measured in terms of blocking probability and system capacity. Simulation results have confirmed the effectiveness of DRP-WI scheme. Under both uniform and non-uniform traffic distributions, DRP-WI exhibits outstanding performance in improving the system capacity. It can provide about 100% capacity improvement as compared to conventional fixed channel assignment scheme with 70 system channels.

  • 건설 가설재 성능검정제도의 전환기에 들어서 주요 가설재들의 성능검정을 평가하고 선진국의 관련 체계와 비교하여, 안전인증제를 통해 새로운 건설공사용 가설재들의 인증제도를 제안하고자 한다. 현재의 성능검정제도는 1992년에 시작되어 2003년에 재 개정되면서, 3년마다 재 검정을 받도록 하고 있다. 그러나 제조능력을 향상시키지 못하고 업체 간 가격경쟁의 심화로 인해 대부분 같은 형태, 기능의 제품만을 양산하고 있는 실정이다. 기존 성능검정제도에서 안전인증제로의 전환은 보다 체계적인 심사방법 및 품질관리 시스템을 포함하고 있으며, 건설 환경 변화에 대응할 수 있는 다양한 요구사항에 맞춘 규격을 제시할 수 있도록 하고 있다. 안전인증제를 통한 건설공사의 가설재는 의무인증대상과 임의인증대상으로 나누어지며, 종전보다 제품의 품질과 관리 시스템을 향상시켜줄 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

소프트 핸드오프를 갖는 셀룰러 CDMA 이동통신 시스템의 Erlang 용랑 (Erlang Capacity of Cellular CDMA Mobile Communication System with soft Handoff)

  • This paper presents an analysis of the capacity, the interference of adjacent cells of a CDMA cellular system, depending on the soft handoff region and log-normal shadowing. The optimum soft handoff region is chosen by using Erlang capacity. It is shown that when the soft handoff region increases, the Erlang capacity increase due to a reduction of the interference power of adjacent cells. But if the region is increased above a certain value, there is no improvement in the system’s capacity. Furthermore as the standard deviation of the log-normal shadowing's normal distribution factor increases, the soft handoff region has to be increased linearly to achieve the same Erlang capacity.

  • Because of being environmentally friendly, renewable energy resources has been growing at a high rate. Wind energy is one of the most successfully utilized of such sources for producing electrical energy. Due to the randomness of wind speed, wind farms can not supply power with a balanceable level as well as conventional power plants. The reliability evaluation of wind power is more and more important. Capacity credit is used to estimate the capacity credit of power systems including wind farms. This paper presents a method of capacity credit calculation for a power system considered wind farms and shows how it gets study on an actual power system (the Jeju Island power system). The paper describes the step of capacity credit calculation and presents test results, which indicate its effectiveness.

확공형 마이크로 파일의 강도 평가에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Strength Evaluation of Micropile with Expanded Drill Hole)

  • This study proposes an advanced type of a micropile system. The proposed micropile system consists of perfobond ribs installed steel rod to improve shear capacity between the thread and the grout, and partially expanded drill holes to increase resistance capacity between the grout and the ground. This study contains experimental evaluations on the proposed micropile system to verify the shear capacity of perfobond rib installed on the steel rod and the load-carrying capacity of shear key created by the partially expanded drill hole. Push-out tests were conducted on a rolled screw thread and steel rods which perfobond ribs are installed instead of rolled screw, in order to compare their load-carrying capacity and behavioral characteristics. As a result, it was confirmed that the perfobond-rib steel rods show much superior structural behavior in terms of initial stiffness, ultimate load, and ductile behavior.

Power Allocation and Capacity Analysis of Secondary User in Heterogeneous Spectrum Sharing Systems

  • In this paper, we considered heterogeneous spectrum sharing system where the number of subcarriers of the primary user (PU) was twice as much as that of the secondary user (SU). In this case, due to non-orthogonality and inter-carrier interference (ICI) from SU to PU, it is difficult to satisfy the interference constraint of PU. In order to mitigate ICI and satisfy the interference constraint, we proposed a new transmission scheme of the SU with power allocation scheme. The proposed scheme will only generate subcarrier-by-subcarrier interference. Therefore, it can easily satisfy the interference constraint of the PR and enhance the capacity of the SU. In addition, we derived the ergodic capacity of the SU. Based on numerical results, we confirmed that the proposed schemes could guarantee SU with a reliable capacity while satisfying the interference constraint of the PU. In addition, the derived capacity well matched the numerical results.

  • Line capacity calculation has been used to determine optimum efficiency and safe train service for train scheduling plan and investment priority order throughout detecting bottleneck section. Because of some problems of Yamagisi and UIC methods for line capacity calculation, developing of the method of line capacity caculation and evaluation for the Korea circumstance is important. This paper deals with the reliability improvement on the integrated system of TPS(Train Performance Simulator), PES(Parameter Evaluation Simulator), LCS(Line Capacity Simulator) and simulation and sensitivity analysis for line capacity.

Capacity Increasement of Trellis Coded 16 QAM Multi-Carrier CDMA System due to SC/MRC Diversity in Multiuser Interference and Rician Fading Channel.

  • In this paper, trellis coded 16 QAM Multi-Carrior CDMA system is proposed, Using the equivalent signal-to-noise plus interference Power ratio (SNIR) of Multi-Carrier CDMA system in the reverse link, capacity and BER performance of trellis coded 16 QAM Multi-Carrier CDMA system are analyzed taking into account the number of multi-carrier, the number of multiple access user, the number of SC/MRC diversity branch, and Rician fading parameter in multiuser interference and Rician fading channel. And the capacity and the BER performance of trellis coded 16 QAM Multi-Carrier CDMA system using selection combining (SC) and maximal ratio cabining (MRC) diversity are numerically compared. Obtained results show that the capacity of proposed system depends on the number of multi-carrier. ti is found that the trellis coded 16 QAM Multi-Carrier CDMA system with SC/MRC antenna diversity scheme is efficient to combat multipath fading and to increase the maximum number of users in high speed data communication. With the results of analysis. MRC diversity technique provides the performance fro high speed data communications. Finally, we present a numerical approach to derive the capacity and the BER performance and to find the maximum number of multiple access user for Multi-Carrier system in multiuser interference and Rician fading channel.
