  • The ATIS(Advance Traveler Information System), as one part of ITS, is a system aiming to disperse traffic volume on transportation networks by providing traffic information to transportation users on pre-trip and en-route trips. One of tools in ATIS is usage of VMS(Variable Message Signs). It provides to the drivers with direct information about state of processing direction. which is considered as the most effective method in ATIS. The purposes of providing VMS information are classified two categories. One is to provide simple information to drivers for their convenience. The other is to manage traffic demand to improve transportation network performance. However, for more effective and reliable VMS information, several strategies should be taken into account. The main VMS management strategy is "Traffic Diversion Strategy for minimum delay" when traffic congestion or incident are occurred. For effective operation. firstly. reasonable diversion traffic volume is determined by network traffic condition Secondly, it is necessary to make providing information strategy which reflects driver response behavior for controling diversion traffic volume. This paper focuses on the providing real-time route guidance information by VMS when congestion is occurred by the incidents. This sturdy estimates time-dependent system optimal diversion rate that inflects travel time and queue lengths using traffic flow simulation model on base Cellular Automata. In addition, route choice behavior models are developed using binary logit model for traffic information variable by traffic system controller. Finally, this study provides time-dependent VMS massage contents and degree of providing information in order to optimize the traffic flow.

  • Purpose: We evaluated prognostic value of the 8th edition of the American Joint Committee on Cancer/International Union for Cancer Control (AJCC/UICC) staging system for nasopharyngeal cancer and investigated whether tumor volume/metabolic information refined prognostication of anatomy based staging system. Materials and Methods: One hundred thirty-three patients with nasopharyngeal cancer who were staged with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and treated with intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) between 2004 and 2013 were reviewed. Multivariate analyses were performed to evaluate prognostic value of the 8th edition of the AJCC/UICC staging system and other factors including gross tumor volume and maximum standardized uptake value of primary tumor (GTV-T and SUV-T). Results: Median follow-up period was 63 months. In multivariate analysis for overall survival (OS), stage group (stage I-II vs. III-IVA) was the only significant prognostic factor. However, 5-year OS rates were not significantly different between stage I and II (100% vs. 96.2%), and between stage III and IVA (80.1% vs. 71.7%). Although SUV-T and GTV-T were not significant prognostic factors in multivariate analysis, those improved prognostication of stage group. The 5-year OS rates were significantly different between stage I-II, III-IV (SUV-T ≤ 16), and III-IV (SUV-T > 16) (97.2% vs. 78% vs. 53.8%), and between stage I, II-IV (GTV-T ≤ 33 mL), and II-IV (GTV-T > 33 mL) (100% vs. 87.3% vs. 66.7%). Conclusion: Current anatomy based staging system has limitations on prognostication for nasopharyngeal cancer despite the most accurate assessment of tumor extent by MRI. Tumor volume/metabolic information seem to improve prognostication of current anatomy based staging system, and further studies are needed to confirm its clinical significance.

  • It is very important for successful construction to estimate the soil volume conversion factor of domestic weathered ground accurately and reasonably. However, it is very difficult to quantify the weathering degree of weathered ground at the field, so that the soil volume conversion factor used in Korea is often dependent upon the standard of foreign countries. Besides, the soil volume conversion factor of domestic weathered ground has been rarely studied and the use and accuracy of the soil volume conversion factor have been questioned persistingly. This study suggests a simple but robust method for estimating the soil volume conversion factor and measuring the weathering degree reasonably, and attempts to establish the utilization of a soil volume conversion factor measurement system based on experimental and analytical results. We made relationship between electrical resistivity and weathering degree presented from weathering index obtained through laboratory tests using field samples, and an estimation method of in-situ weathering degree for granites and a calculation method of soil volume conversion factor using electrical resistivity. And also, we suggested the photogrametry measurement-equipment system for measuring the volume of cargo box and the application plan of stand equipment and RFID for calculating the earth volume and distinguishing buggies in order to design the measurement system for soil volume conversion factor applicable to the field. Ultimately, the Weathered Earth-work Management Program (WEMP) was developed, so field managers may easily obtain the information about earth volume and soil volume conversion factor at the weathered ground.

  • In this paper, we proposed the algorithm computes the waste volume periodically for the way of waste repository standard. For the construction of safe and clear urban environment, it is necessary that we identify the rubbish waste volume and we know the accuracy volume. After camera calibration, we obtained the point cloud on the surface of the object and took this as the input of the calculation algorithm of the object volume. We proposed the two volume calculation algorithms based on the triangularmeshing methods and verified the validity of the algorithm through simulation and real experiments. The proposed algorithm can be used not only as the volume calculation of the waste repository but also as the general volume calculation of a three dimensional object.

  • We have designed a real-time Cardiac digital substraction angiography system (C-DSA) and tested the system for the diagnosis of Cardiac patients. The system was developed by interfacing a radiographic angiography system to a computerized motional image analysis system. This new cardiac DSA can perform the real time processing of averaging and subtraction of the 32 image frames to measure the volume changes of the left ventricle after elimination of motional artrifacts, caused by the heart contraction of beats per minute in average. Each frame has a resolution of 512 x 512 pixels and 256 gray levels. Two image data with maximal and minimal volume were moved to the interfaced IBM PC computer system by high speed computer link line for computation of the heart's contraction parameters. First, the boundary of the left ventricule was detected using a dynamic programming of the gray levels, and its volume was computered to determine the parameters, such as the maximal volume of end-diastolic volume (EDV), the minimal volume of end systolic volume (ESV), and ejection fraction (EF).

  • A new architecture called the Storage Area Network(SAN) was developed in response to the requirements of high availability of data, scalable growth and system performance In order to use SAN more efficiently, must SAN operating systems support storage virtualization concepts that allow users to view physical storage devices attached to SAN as a large volume virtually. A logical volume manager Days a key role in storage virtualization it realizes the storage virtualization by mapping logical addresses to physical addresses. In this paper, we design and implement an efficient and flexible mapping method for logical volume manager. The mapping method in this paper supports a snapshot that preserves a volume image at certain time and on-line reorganization to allow users to add or remove storage devices to SAN even while the system is running.

  • In order to charge EVs, they have to be connected to distribution system. Therefore, if unprecedented numbers of EVs are connected to power systems, it could result in deterioration of power quality, overload, and other system problems. In this paper, the effects of voltage sag on the distribution system due to the connection of EVs is evaluated by considering related field data of Republic of Korea such as the number of gasoline-fueled vehicles, seasonal load of power system and the monthly and daily real-time traffic volume. The distribution system and EVs are modeled using the Electro Magnetic Transients Program (EMTP).

  • This paper presents an image processing technique to get traffic information such as vehicle volume, velocity, and occupancy for measuring the traffic congestion rate. To obtain these information, two horizontal lines are previously set on the screen. A moving vehicle is detected using the gray level difference on each line, and also template matching method at night. Threshold values are determined by sampling pavement grey level, and updated dynamically to cope with the change of ambient light conditions. These technique is successfully used to calculate vehicle volume, occupancy, and velocity. This study can be applied to traffic signal control system for minimizing traffic congestion in urban areas.
