  • In the existing robot programming methods, off-line method becames important role of programming because of improvement of hardware and software of PC. The purpose of this study is to develop practical robot programming system for polishing task using PC. In the first place, we have investigated the existing robot programming systems, and derived the requirement of this programming system from the existing systems. And we have decided the structure of this system. After that, we have developed this system. Using Windows software, this programming system has man/machine interface function. So users can use easily and quickly.

  • The effect of existing programming education has shown a limitation coming from its methodology. Thus, the researcher developed a Web-based robot programming support system and explored its possibility for overcoming problems in existing programming education and ultimately for enhancing creativity and problem-solving abilities of students. The developed system let students learn robot programming just with a PC or PDA connected to the Internet without additional hardware and software. Different types of robots linked with a server computer can be controlled by using different programming languages. It is possible to use Korean keywords for programming as well. Specially, this system was evaluated positively by the groups whose computer abilities are excellent and student of introductory or intermediate level programming course. Furthermore, the programming education that uses robot and the Hangul programming technology were given very positive reception by elementary school students.

  • Teaching programming skills is not only required for computer related departments but through the area of engineering and natural science. Moreover recently teaching programming skill is emphasized in software education for primary schools and secondary schools. Since programming ability is considered an essencial element of national competitiveness, we need programming learning system which alleviates the difficulty. We implemented Blockly webc Programming Convergent Learning System which is based on the graphic tools called Blockly by Google. Inside system problem sets for the programming beginners are embedded in the system. These problem sets are gone under more than 20 years verification and these problem sets may be used to help beginning programmers escape novice coder in short time. Blockly webc Programming Convergent Learning System together with already developed Simple Visual Language2 Programming Learning System is expected to play an important role as a programming learning system for the beginners.

  • An expert system for NC part programming of NC lathe (ESPP-1) is developed as a part of Computer-Adied Manufacturing system. Conventional computer-assisted part programming system essentially requires an NC part programmer who is an expert in NC part programming. But the developed ESSP-1 can allow an inexperienced person to make an excellent NC data for the NC Lathe without any problem, since the system has a knowledge base composed of EIA and ISO NC code, feed rate, spindle speed, machining coordinates selection, and tool selection etc., which were directly evoked from some skilled NC part programmers, and referenced some machining handbooks. This paper discusses the algorithm of the expert system for NC part programming of the NC lathe (ESPP-1) and the performance comparisons between the developed expert system and the conventional system.

Fuzzy programming for improving redundancy-reliability allocation problems in series-parallel systems

  • Redundancy-reliability allocation problems in multi-stage series-parallel systems are addressed in this study. Fuzzy programming techniques are proposed for finding satisfactory solutions. First, a multi-objective programming model is formulated for simultaneously maximizing system reliability and minimizing system total cost. Due to the nature of uncertainty in the problem, the fuzzy set theory and technique are used to convert the deterministic multi-objective programming model into a fuzzy nonlinear programming problem. A heuristic method is developed to get satisfactory solutions for the fuzzy nonlinear programming problem. A Pareto optimal solution is found with maximal degree of satisfaction from the interception area of fuzzy sets. A case study that is related to the electronic control unit installed on aircraft engine over-speed protection system is used to implement the developed approach. Results suggest that the developed fuzzy multi-objective programming model can effectively resolve the fuzzy and uncertain problem when design goals and constraints are not clearly confirmed at the initial conceptual design phase.

Conversational Programming System for NC Lathes (I) (선반용 대화형 프로그래밍 시스템(I))

  • A conversational programming system for turning processes was studied to enhance the user friendliness of a NC Lathe by adopting man-machine interface functions through Delphi programming tool under the Windows 95 environment. Functions of tool collision checking were developed through zone limitation algorithms. Final shape of workpiece was generated by means of tree structure algorithm. Shop floor programming performance was incorporated in the developed CAM module. In order to increase flexibility of the man-machine interface, graphic based programming tools have been developed. A NC turning machine equipped with an open architecture PCNC was used as a test bed of the system. Performance of the system was verified through case studies.

  • An Enhanced Shopfloor Oriented Programming(AESOP) system is developed as a programming utillity of the CNC turning machine. The developed system is specially designed to give a beginner the convenience for CNC part programming with graphical interaction between a machine operator and the AESOP system. The combination of process-oriented cycles and various contour programming as well as an immediate tool path verification support the easiness and swiftness of a part program generation in the shopfloor. Since the AESOP system has been designed to operate on the basis of MS-Windows in the PC-embedded CNC system, it is also useful for the training of the part programming by utilizing provailing personal computers in the educational department.

  • With the progress in process automation, it becomes necessary that a robot should have various sophisticated capabilities. A robot programming language is a tool that can give a robot such capabilities without any change in robot architecture. Especially a task level automatic programming system enables a robot able to perform a job intelligently. Therefore anyone who is not an expert on welding or robot programming can easily use it. In this research, basic automatic welding program is combined with workspace information, which makes users do an arc welding job automatically.
