A Discrete Event Dynamic System is a system whose states change in response to the occurrence of events from a predefined event set. A major difficulty in developing analytical results for the systems is the lack of appropriate modeling techniques. This paper proposes the use of Real-time Temporal Logic as a modeling tool for the modeling and control of fixed-time traffic control problem which by way of a DEDS. The Real-time Temporal Logic Frameworks is extended with a suitable structure of modeling hard real-time constraints. Modeling rules are developed for several specific situations. It is shown how the graphical model can be translated to a system of linear equations and constraints.
To carry out systematic groundwater assessment, exploration and management and to use these for protection of optimal groundwater yield, a data analysis and management system is required. Thus, the object of this research was to develop and apply software that integrates GIS and groundwater modeling: GISGAM (GIS for groundwater analysis and management system). The GIS program ArcView and the groundwater-modeling program MODFLOW were used for the GISGAM. The program components consist of a pre-processor, a processor, and a post-processor for groundwater modeling. In addition, GIS functions such as input, manipulation, analysis and output of data were embedded into the program. In applying the program to pilot area, topography, geology, soil, land use and well databases, and a groundwater flow model were constructed for the study area. This case study revealed the advantage and convenience of groundwater modeling using GIS capabilities. By integrating GIS and the groundwater model, the impact of changing values of hydrogeological constants on model results could be more easily evaluated.

The component-based modeling framework for agricultural water-resources management (COMFARM) is a user-friendly, highly interoperable, lightweight modeling framework that supports the development of watershed-specific domain components. The objective of this study was to evaluate the suitability of the COMFARM for the design and creation of a component-based modeling system of agricultural reservoir watersheds. A case study that focused on a particular modeling system was conducted on a watershed that includes the Daehwa and Dangwol serial irrigation reservoirs. The hydrologic modeling system for the study area was constructed with linkable components, including the modified Tank, an agricultural water supply and drainage model, and a reservoir water balance model. The model parameters were each calibrated for two years, based on observed reservoir water levels. The simulated results were in good agreement with the observed data. In addition, the applicability of the COMFARM was evaluated for regions where reservoir outflows, including not only spillway release but also return flow by irrigation water supply, substantially affect the downstream river discharge. The COMFARM could help to develop effective water-management measures by allowing the construction of a modeling system and evaluation of multiple operational scenarios customized for a specific watershed.

This paper deals with the modified modeling of PV system based on the PSCAD/EMTDC and optimal control method of customer voltages in real distribution system interconnected with the photovoltaic (PV) systems. In order to analyze voltage variation characteristics, the specific modeling of PV system which contains the theory of d-q transformation, current-control algorithm and sinusoidal PWM method is being required. However, the conventional modeling of PV system can only perform the modeling of small-scale active power of less than 60 [kW]. Therefore, this paper presents a modified modeling that can perform the large-scale active power of more than 1 [MW]. And also, this paper proposes the optimal operation method of step voltage regulator (SVR) in order to solve the voltage variation problem when the PV systems are interconnected with the distribution feeders. From the simulation results, it is confirmed that this paper is effective tool for voltage analysis in distribution system with PV systems.
A pressurized vessel-pipe-safety valve (PVPSV) combination is a commonly used configuration in nuclear power plants, and a good numerical model is essential for the system design, sizing and performance optimization. However, owing to the large-scale and cross-scale features, it is still a challenge to build a system level numerical model with both high accuracy and efficiency. To overcome this, a novel system level modeling method which can synthesize the advantages of various models is proposed in this paper. For system modeling, the analytical approach, the method of characteristics (MOC) and the surrogate model approach are respectively adopted to predict the dynamics of the pressure vessel, the connecting pipe and the safety valve, and different models are connected through data interfaces. With this system model, dynamic simulations were carried out and both the stable and the unstable system responses were obtained. For the model verification purpose, the simulation results were compared with those obtained from experiments and full CFD simulations. A good agreement and a better efficiency were obtained, verifying the ability of the model and the feasibility of the modeling method proposed in this paper.
A mathematical modeling for a magnetic levitation system is proposed using the Taylor series expansion of differential function for obtaining linearity. It is confirmed that this kind of linear approximation method can be used to the modeling of a magnetic levitation system. The two-degree-of-freedom optimal servo system for a constant reference signal is proposed using the LQ optimization technique. An additional state feedback is introduced at the output of the integrator to cancel the integral action for reference signal if there is no modeling error of the plant and no disturbance input to the plant. When the modeling error or the disturbance input exists, the integral effect appears. The system has a free parameter which can b used to tune the effect of the integral compensation.

This paper presents Kalman filter based system modeling algorithm for autonomous robot systems. State of the robot system is measured using embedded sensor systems and then carried to a host computer via ubiquitous sensor network (USN). We settle a linear state-space motion equation for unknown robot system dynamics and modify a popular Kalman filter algorithm in deriving suitable parameter estimation mechanism. To represent time-delay nature due to network media in system modeling, we construct an augmented state-space model which is mainly composed of original state and estimated parameter vectors. We conduct real-time experiment to test our proposed estimation algorithm where speed state of the constructed robot is used as system observation.
Power system loads have a significant impact on a system. Although it is difficult to precisely describe loads in a mathematical model, accurately modeling them is important for a system analysis. The traditional load modeling method is based on the load components of a bus. Recently, the load modeling method based on measurements from a system has been introduced and developed by researchers. The two major components of a load modeling problem are determining the mathematical model for the target system and estimating the parameters of the determined model. We use the composite load model, which has both static and dynamic load characteristics. The ZIP model and the induction motor model are used for the static and dynamic load models, respectively. In this work, we propose the measurement-based parameter estimation method for the composite load model. The test system and related measurements are obtained using transient security assessment tool(TSAT) simulation program and PSS/E. The parameter estimation is then verified using these measurements. Cases are tested and verified using the sample system and its related measurements.

Conventional solid or surface modeling systems cannot represent both the complete solid model and the abstract model in a unified framework. Recently, non-manifold modeling systems are proposed to solve this problem. This paper describes FlexDesigner, an open kernel system for modeling non-manifold models. It summarizes the data structure for non-manifold models, system design methodology, system modularization, and the typical characteristics of each module in the system. A data structure based on partial-topological elements is adopted to represent the relationship among topological elements. It is efficient in the usage of memory and has topological completeness compared with other published data structures. It can handle many non-manifold situations such as isolate vertices, dangling edges, dangling faces, a mixed dimensional model, and a cellular model. FlexDesigner is modularized hierarchically and designed by the object-oriented methodology for reusability. FlexDesigner is developed using the C++ and OpenGL on both SGI workstation and IBM PC.

This paper describes a wave modeling method using low-cost sensors. Wave modeling is applied to the wave monitoring system for accurate measurement of ocean wave parameters. The observation of ocean wave parameters is necessary to improve the accuracy of forecast of ocean wave condition. However, the ocean wave parameters measured by a low-cost wave monitoring system suffer from several errors. Therefore we introduce a wave modeling method to compensate the ocean wave parameters corrupted by errors. The proposed method is analyzed using experiments within controlled environment. It is verified that the accuracy of low-cost wave monitoring system can be increased by the proposed method.
