Determinants of Opportunism between Franchisor and Franchisee: Focusing on the Moderating Effect of Startup Experience

  • Purpose: This study examines the opportunism moderating effect by the startup experience in the relationship between franchisor and franchisees. In the case of a franchise system that has a continuous relational exchange transaction, relationship management is a very important activity because the relationship management between franchisor and franchisees improves the quality of the relationship. Nevertheless, there is insufficient of research on opportunism, which is a negative factor in managing the relationship between franchisor and franchisees in continuous relationship. Research design, data and methodology: This study, we explore the cause of opportunism based on transaction cost theory through prior research and establish a research model based by goal incongruity, uncertainty, information asymmetry, transaction specific assets, the relevance to determinant of opportunism and the startup experienced which is a moderating variable. To verify several hypotheses, the data were collected from 300 out of 1,760 domestic franchisees and analyzed using multiple regression analysis with SPSS program. Results: The findings are as follows. Goal incongruity did not affect opportunism. Opportunism increased as uncertainty increased, and as information asymmetry increased, opportunism increased. An opportunism decreased as transaction specific assets increased. Moreover, the findings show that startup experience only plays a moderating role in the relationship between information asymmetry and opportunism. Therefore, 4 out of 8 hypotheses were supported. Conclusions: The findings show that uncertainty, information asymmetry, and transaction specific assets are the determinants of opportunism. In addition, the results of the analysis of the moderating role of startup experience show that the less entrepreneurial experience, the greater the influence of information asymmetry on opportunism. Our findings mean that maintaining a successful relationship between franchisors and franchisees is possible when franchisors provide knowledge sharing, goal sharing, environmental sharing, and management information sharing to franchisees. In addition, the findings of this study shows that the contract content and management should be changed according to the entrepreneurial experience. In other words, the franchisors must share and integrate the accumulated franchisees' and franchisors' experience with the franchisees to create a synergy that can lead to successful bilateral relationship maintenance, which in turn reduces opportunism.

  • 본 논문은 레이더 시스템에 사용되는 상용칩의 주파수 선택적 IQ 불일치를 보상하는 기법을 제안하고, 성능 열화로 인하여 고성능 레이더 시스템에 적용이 어려웠던 상용칩의 사용이, 제안된 기법을 통하여 가능함을 성능 분석을 통하여 보였다. IQ 불일치 보상 성능의 극대화를 위하여 본 논문에서는 특잇값 분해를 통한 차원 축소 기법을 제안하고, 제안된 차원 축소 기법에 기반한 IQ 불일치 복소 보상 여파기의 설계를 위한 최적화 모델을 제안하였다. 제안된 보상 기법의 우수성을 입증하기 위하여 실제 상용칩에 기반한 IQ 불일치 측정 및 보상 시스템을 FPGA로 구현하였으며, 개발된 시스템을 통하여 논문에서 제안하는 방법의 성능을 검증하였다. 성능 검증 결과, 기존 방법과 비교하여 본 논문에서 제안하는 방법이 큰 복잡도 증가 없이 기존 방법의 성능을 뛰어넘는 우수한 성능을 보임을 확인하였다.

경량 깊이완성기술을 위한 효율적인 자기지도학습 기법 연구 (Efficient Self-supervised Learning Techniques for Lightweight Depth Completion)

  • 카메라와 라이다가 탑재된 자율주행 시스템에서 깊이완성기술을 통해 조밀한 깊이추정을 할 수 있다. 특히, 자기지도학습을 이용하면 깊이정답이 없는 주행데이터로도 깊이완성 네트워크의 학습이 가능하다. 실제 자율주행환경에서 이러한 깊이완성의 출력은 다른 알고리즘들의 입력으로 사용되므로 매우 빠른 지연속도를 요구한다. 그래서 본 논문에서는 종래의 연구들처럼 네트워크를 고도화하여 정확도를 높이기보단 추론속도를 극대화한 형태의 깊이완성 네트워크를 사용한다. GPU 연산에 최적화된 RegNet 인코더를 사용하고 네트워크의 병렬성을 고려한 U-Net 형태의 네트워크를 설계한다. 대신, 본 논문에서는 자기지도학습 과정에서 정확도를 높일 수 있는 몇 가지 기법들을 제시한다. 제시하는 기법들은 신뢰할 수 없는 라이다 입력에 대한 강인함을 높이고 사전에 추출한 시맨틱 정보를 바탕으로 에지와 하늘 영역에 대한 깊이 추정 품질을 향상시킨다. 실험을 통해 우리의 모델은 매우 경량임에도 (2.42ms at 1280x480) 노이즈에 강하며 최신 연구들과 대등한 정확도를 보임을 확인한다.

클래스 다이어그램 이미지의 자동 분류에 관한 연구 (A Study on Automatic Classification of Class Diagram Images)

  • UML(Unified Modeling Language) 클래스 다이어그램은 시스템의 정적인 측면을 표현하며 분석 및 설계부터 문서화, 테스팅까지 사용된다. 클래스 다이어그램을 이용한 모델링이 소프트웨어 개발에 있어 필수적이지만, 경험이 많지 않은 모델러에게 쉽지 않은 작업이다. 도메인 카테고리별로 분류된 클래스 다이어그램 데이터 세트가 제공된다면, 모델링 작업의 생산성을 높일 수 있을 것이다. 본 논문은 클래스 다이어그램 이미지 데이터를 구축하기 위한 자동 분류 기술을 제공한다. 추가 정보 없이 단지 UML 클래스 다이어그램 이미지를 식별하고 도메인 카테고리에 따라 자동 분류한다. 먼저, 웹상에서 수집된 이미지들이 UML 클래스 다이어그램 이미지인지 여부를 판단한다. 그리고, 식별된 클래스 다이어그램 이미지에서 클래스 이름을 추출하여 도메인 카테고리에 따라 분류한다. 제안된 분류 모델은 정밀도, 재현율, F1점수, 정확도에서 각각 100.00%, 95.59%, 97.74%, 97.77%를 달성했으며, 카테고리별 분류에 대한 정확도는 81.1%와 95.2% 사이에 분포한다. 해당 실험에 사용된 클래스 다이어그램 이미지 개수가 충분히 크지 않지만, 도출된 실험 결과는 제안된 자동 분류 방식이 고려할 만한 가치가 있음을 나타낸다.

Sensitivity analysis of input variables to establish fire damage thresholds for redundant electrical panels

  • In the worst case, a temporary ignition source (also known as transient combustibles) between two electrical panels can damage both panels. Mitigation strategies for electrical panel fires were previously developed using fire modeling and risk analysis. However, since they do not comply with deterministic fire protection requirements, it is necessary to analyze the boundary values at which combustibles may damage targets depending on various factors. In the present study, a sensitivity analysis of input variables related to the damage threshold of two electrical panels was performed for dimensionless geometry using a Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS). A new methodology using a damage evaluation map was developed to assess the damage of the electrical panel. The input variables were the distance between the electrical panels, the vertical height of the fuel, the size of the fire, the wind speed and the wind direction. The heat flux was determined to increase as the vertical distance between the fuel and the panel decreased, and the largest heat flux was predicted when the vertical separation distance divided by one half flame length was 0.3-0.5. As the distance between the panels increases, the heat flux decreases according to the power law, and damage can be avoided when the distance between the fuel and the panel is twice the length of the panel. When the wind direction is east and south, to avoid damage to the electrical panel the distance must be increased by 1.5 times compared to no wind. The present scale model can be applied to any configuration where combustibles are located between two electrical panels, and can provide useful guidance for the design of redundant electrical panels.

The Chilling Trade Effects of Provisional Anti-dumping Duties: The Case of Korea

  • Purpose - This study empirically analyzes the effects of provisional anti-dumping duties levied on imports by Korea following anti-dumping investigations. An anti-dumping duty is a legal tool that countries use to impose duties on imports to offset injurious dumping. This study verifies how effective the imposition of a provisional anti-dumping duty is and whether such duties have trade chilling effects on aggregate imports. Specifically, this study examines import trade diversion from named to unnamed countries caused by the imposition of provisional anti-dumping duties. Design/methodology - This empirical analysis employs an econometric model of provisional anti-dumping measures for cases in which Korea imposed final affirmative anti-dumping measures. We construct a monthly panel dataset for each stage of anti-dumping investigation undertaken by Korea for all manufacturing industries during 1995-2013. We illustrate a stage-by-stage analysis of anti-dumping investigations from initiation, preliminary decision, imposition of provisional duty, final affirmative decision, and imposition of final affirmative duty on a monthly basis at the six-digit harmonized system code-level. Findings - For cases in which provisional duties are imposed, the reduction in imports from named countries outweighs the increase in imports from unnamed countries. The substantial reduction in imports from named countries is large enough to offset the import diversion to unnamed countries, suggesting that import diversion in investigations is limited during the investigation period. Therefore, the use of provisional anti-dumping duties in Korea is effective, providing evidence of a chilling effect on aggregate imports. Originality/value - Few studies examine the size of the effects on import trade diversion of the imposition of provisional anti-dumping duties. We contribute to the literature by disentangling separate trade effects for each phase of the anti-dumping investigation process and imposition of provisional duty.

A Study on the Reasonable Choice and Utilization of Incoterms 2020 Rules from the Perspective of Logistics and Supply Chain Management

  • Purpose - This paper has an objective to suggest reasonable criteria in choosing Incoterms 2020 rules for efficient and effective logistics management in that the Incoterms rules affect not only the rights and obligations of the parties to the sales contract but also the control and management of logistics system and transaction costs in the transaction. Design/methodology - An analysis of the various factors is needed to assess the positive or negative impact on global value chain in choosing Incoterms rules from a total logistics view. This study analyzes the impact of which the content of individual incoterms rules can have on the operation of international logistics systems under the global value chain from a strategic perspective to suggest reasonable criteria for selection of Incoterms rules depending on the transaction situation. Findings - Results of this study shows that consideration of various aspects which includes the characteristics of the products, logistics capabilities, infrastructure, transaction volume, operational cost, customs regulations, tax and accounting should be reflected in choosing the appropriate Incoterms rules. Therefore, in order to minimize the total cost and improve logistics performance, it may be helpful to develop a decision support model which allows users to select appropriate Incoterms rules based on various influencing factors. Originality/value - This Study is different from previous research which has mainly focused on the rights and obligations of the parties to the transaction regarding the transfer of risks and costs under the Incoterms. In addition, this study has significance in that it provides implications for export and import companies that can be able to use Incoterms as a strategic tool to efficiently manage the global value chain and improve supply chain performance.

A Systems Engineering Approach for Predicting NPP Response under Steam Generator Tube Rupture Conditions using Machine Learning

  • Accidents prevention and mitigation is the highest priority of nuclear power plant (NPP) operation, particularly in the aftermath of the Fukushima Daiichi accident, which has reignited public anxieties and skepticism regarding nuclear energy usage. To deal with accident scenarios more effectively, operators must have ample and precise information about key safety parameters as well as their future trajectories. This work investigates the potential of machine learning in forecasting NPP response in real-time to provide an additional validation method and help reduce human error, especially in accident situations where operators are under a lot of stress. First, a base-case SGTR simulation is carried out by the best-estimate code RELAP5/MOD3.4 to confirm the validity of the model against results reported in the APR1400 Design Control Document (DCD). Then, uncertainty quantification is performed by coupling RELAP5/MOD3.4 and the statistical tool DAKOTA to generate a large enough dataset for the construction and training of neural-based machine learning (ML) models, namely LSTM, GRU, and hybrid CNN-LSTM. Finally, the accuracy and reliability of these models in forecasting system response are tested by their performance on fresh data. To facilitate and oversee the process of developing the ML models, a Systems Engineering (SE) methodology is used to ensure that the work is consistently in line with the originating mission statement and that the findings obtained at each subsequent phase are valid.

건축 WBS 위계 분석을 통한 소방 IFC 스키마 확장 방법론에 관한 연구 (Methodology of Fire Safety IFC Schema Extension through Architectural WBS Hierarchy Analysis)

  • As BIM(Building Information Modeling) technology advances in architecture around the world, projects and industries using BIM are increasing. Unlike previous developments that were limited to buildings, BIM is now spreading to other fields such as civil engineering and electricity. In architecture, BIM is used in the entire process from design to maintenance of a building, and IFC(Industry Foundation Classes), a neutral format with interoperability, is used as an open BIM format. Since firefighting requires intuitive 3D models for evacuation and fire simulations, BIM models are desirable. However, due to the BIM model, which was developed centered on building objects, there are no objects and specific properties for fire evacuation in the IFC scheme. Therefore, in this study, when adding a new object in the firefighting area to the IFC schema, the IFC interoperability is not broken and the building WBS(Work Breakdown Structure) is analyzed with a hierarchical system similar to the IFC format to define the scope for a new object and the firefighting part within of the building WBS to derive a firefighting HBS(Hierarchy Breakdown Structure) with the extension of the object-oriented IFC file. And according to HBS, we propose an IFC schema extension method. It is a methodology that allows BIM users to instantly adapt the IFC schema to their needs. Accordingly, the methodology derived from this study is expected to be expanded in various areas to minimize information loss from IFC. In the future, we will apply the IFC extension methodology to the actual development process using HBS to verify that it is actually applicable within the IFC schema.

21톤급 휠 굴착기용 트랜스미션의 기어 트레인에 대한 강도 해석 (Strength Analysis of Complex Gear Train for Transmission of 21-Ton Grade Wheel Excavator)

  • The power train of transmission for 21-ton grade wheel excavator makes use of a complex gear train composed of a planetary and helical gear system to drive the wheel excavator by transmitting power to the axle. The complex gear train with a shift mode is an important part of the transmission because of strength problems in an extreme environment. To calculate the specifications of the complex gear train and analyze the gear bending and compressive stresses of the complex gear train, this study analyzes gear bending and compressive stresses accurately for the optimal design of the complex gear train with respect to cost and reliability. In this article, the gear bending and compressive stresses of the complex gear train are calculated using the Lewes and Hertz equation. Evaluating the results with the data of the allowable bending and compressive stress from the stress and number of cycles curves of the gears verified the calculated specifications of the complex gear train. A computer structure analysis is performed with the 3D model of the planetary and helical gears to analyze the structure strength of the complex gear train. The results demonstrate that the durability and strength of the complex gear train are safe, because the safety factors of the bending and compressive stresses are more than 1.0.
