γ-dicalcium silicate(γ-C2S) is known as a polymorphism of belite. Due to its high CO2 fixing capacity and the production process with low CO2 emission, γ-C2S has attracted more attention of researchers. For the further development of γ-C2S applications in construction industry, this study aims to investigate the method for synthesizing high purity of γ-C2S. The influence of raw materials and calcination temperatures on the purity of γ-C2S was evaluated. Several Ca bearing materials were selected as the calcium source, the materials which's main component is SiO2 were used as the silicon source. Raw materials were mixed and calcined under different temperatures. The results revealed that the highest purity could be obtained using Ca(OH)2 and SiO2 powder as raw materials. In addition, a relatively economic synthesis method using natural mineral materials-limestone and silica sand as raw materials were developed for the practical application. The purity of synthetic γ-C2S was recorded up to 77.6%.
Three differing sandstones, two synthetic and one field sample, have been tested ultrasonically under a range of confining pressures and pore pressures representative of in-situ reservoir pressures. These sandstones include: a synthetic sandstone with calcite intergranular cement produced using the CSIRO Calcite In-situ Precipitation Process (CIPS); a synthetic sandstone with silica intergranular cement; and a core sample from the Otway Basin Waarre Formation, Boggy Creek 1 well, from the target lithology for a trial $CO_2$ pilot project. Initial testing was carried on the cores at "room-dried" conditions, with confining pressures up to 65 MPa in steps of 5 MPa. All cores were then flooded with $CO_2$, initially in the gas phase at 6 MPa, $22^{\circ}C$, then with liquid-phase $CO_2$ at a temperature of $22^{\circ}C$ and pressures from 7 MPa to 17 MPa in steps of 5 MPa. Confining pressures varied from 10 MPa to 65 MPa. Ultrasonic waveforms for both P- and S-waves were recorded at each effective pressure increment. Velocity versus effective pressure responses were calculated from the experimental data for both P- and S-waves. Attenuations $(1/Q_p)$ were calculated from the waveform data using spectral ratio methods. Theoretical calculations of velocity as a function of effective pressure for each sandstone were made using the $CO_2$ pressure-density and $CO_2$ bulk modulus-pressure phase diagrams and Gassmann effective medium theory. Flooding the cores with gaseous phase $CO_2$ produced negligible change in velocity-effective stress relationships compared to the dry state (air saturated). Flooding with liquid-phase $CO_2$ at various pore pressures lowered velocities by approximately 8% on average compared to the air-saturated state. Attenuations increased with liquid-phase $CO_2$ flooding compared to the air-saturated case. Experimental data agreed with the Gassmann calculations at high effective pressures. The "critical" effective pressure, at which agreement with theory occurred, varied with sandstone type. Discrepancies are thought to be due to differing micro-crack populations in the microstructure of each sandstone type. The agreement with theory at high effective pressures is significant and gives some confidence in predicting seismic behaviour under field conditions when $CO_2$ is injected.
This study is on the properties of inorganic porous calcium silicate material made from silica powder through the autoclaving curing, the results of this study should be utilized fundamental data for the development of noise reduction porous solid material using siliceous byproduct generated by various manufacture process. For the manufacture of autoclave curing specimen, various calcareous materials used and siliceous materials used silica powder. In this study, properties in density and compressive strength according to the change of W/B and C/S ratio, microscopy for the shape of pore, SEM and XRD for the examination of hydrate after autoclave curing are carried out respectively. The test results shown that the more slurry density decrease, the more W/B increase at the fresh state, this tendency shown similar to in hardened state. Among the specimens of C/S ratio, the compressive strength of C/S ratio of 0.85 gave the highest the compressive strength. In the results of XRD, tobermorite generated by autoclaving curing was created all of specimens regardless of C/S ratio. To ascertain pore structure, we compared with existing porous calcium silicate product(ALC, organic sound absorbing porous material). The results of microscope observation, pore structure of specimen of this study was similar to that of existing inorganic sound absorbing foam concrete. therefore, we could conformed a possibility of sound absorbing porous solid material on the basis of the results.
The chloroform layer from 75% ethanol extract of Dalbergia odorifera T.CHEN showed strong antioxidative activity on lard and palm oil as tested by Rancimat method. Antioxidative active compound isolated and identified by silica gel column chromatography, thin layer chromatography, mass spectrophotometer, $^1H-NMR$ and $^{13}C-NMR$ was identified as mucronulatol (3(R&S)-3,7-Dihydroxy-2',4-dimethoxyisoflavan). Results of Rancimat method revealed the induction period of Mucronulatol increased longer than those of synthetic antioxidant, BHA and BHT, at the same concentration. Mucronulatol combined with ${\delta}-tocopherol(200ppm)$, and with ascorbic acid (200 ppm) and citric acid (200 ppm) on lard and palm oil, respectively, showed strong synergistic effects.

To isolate new antioxidants from twelve edible seaweeds, mixed methanol and chloroform extract of marine algae was fractionated into several subfractions and their antioxidant activities were measured by using AOM and 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH). Especially the aqueous-methanol soluble fractions of brown and red algae showed a considerable antioxidant effect. Their antioxidant activities were stronger than synthetic antioxidants such as BHA, BHT, under the same concentration. Further fractionation of the aqueous-methanol soluble fractions using silica gel column chromatography yielded five subfractions. Among them methanol fraction exhibited high DPPH quenching activities. Also, it was confirmed to be benzene-derivative substances of two compounds by UV, HPLC, GC/MS analysis. Its each molecular weight was about 181, 238. These results suggested the existence of two effective natural antioxidant compounds in three edible marine algae.
This study was devised to observe the cytotoxlc activities of petroleum-ether extract of Panax ginseng root(crude Gx) and its partially purified fraction from silicon acid column chromatography(7:3 CX) against sarcoma-180(5-180) and Walker carcinosarcoma 256(Walker 256) in vivo, and murine leukemic lymphocytes(L1210) and human rectal cancer cell(HRT-18) and human colon cancer cells(HT-29 and HCT-48) in vitro . Each cell-line was cultured in medium containing serial concentrations of the crude Gx or 7:3 Gx in vitro. A highly lipid soluble compound in the extract of Panax ginseng root was cytocidal to murine leukemic cells and human colon and rectal cancer cells in vitro In the meantime, ginseng saponin derivatives did not cytotoxic effects at its corresponding concentration. The growth rates of the cancer cells in medium containing ginseng extracts were inhibited gradually to a significant degree roughly in proportion to the increase of the extract concentration. The cytotoxic activity of 7:3 Gx was about 3 times more potent than that of crude Gx, one unit of cytotoxic activity against L121f cells being equivalent to 2.54$\mu\textrm{g}$ and 0.88 $\mu\textrm{g}$ for the crude Gx and 7:3 Gx, respectively. The Rf value of the active compound on silica -gel thin layer chromatography with petroleum-ether/ethyl ether/acetic acid mixture (90:10:1, v/v/v) as a developing solvent was 0.23. The survival times of mice inoculated with S-180 cells were extended about 1.5 to 2 times by the 7:3 Gx treatment compared with their control group. The significantly decreased hemoglobin values of rats after inoculation with Walker 256 were recovered to normal range by oral administration of the crude Gx. The synthetic levels of protein, DNA and RNA in human colon and rectal cancer cells were significantly diminished by treatment with the crude Gx, which can explain a part of the origin of its anticancer activity.
A series of amine functionalized MCM-41 catalysts were prepared by aminopropyltrimethoxysilane grafting and their catalytic performance in Knoevenagel reaction of selected substrates was investigated. Water resistant and catalytically active amine grafted MCM-41 was prepared by post-synthetic silylation using methyltrimethoxysilane ; hydrogen bonding of the water molecules formed during the condensation reaction to the active N group was suppressed, which led to high TON of the reaction. Amine functionalized MCM-41 prepared by coating method produced high conversion, but the TON of the catalyst was much lower than that of the amine grafted MCM-41; pore volume of the functionalized MCM-41 decreased substantially and large portion of the immobilized amine is believed to be hydrogen bonded to each other, which can result in decrease in the basicity of the N group. A secondary amine group was prepared by room temperature condensation between aminopropylsilane and chloropropylsilane, and the MCM-41 grafted with the secondary amine group demonstrated the highest catalytic activity among the catalysts prepared.

This study is to analyze effect of exposure environment and mode of ASR on the engineering properties of synthetic lightweight aggregate concrete, such as dynamic modulus of elasticity and ultrasonic pulse velocity. The results of this study are summarized as foflows ; 1. The expansion rate of each exposure environment in 380$^{\circ}$C and NaCI 4% solution was shown higher than in 20$^{\circ}$C and normal water. The expansion rate of each exposure mode was largely shown in order of fjill immersion, wetting/drying, half immersion. 2. The dynamic modulus of elasticty and ultrasonic pulse velocity of each exposure environment in 38$^{\circ}$C and NaCl 4% solution was shown less than in 20$^{\circ}$C and normal water. The dynamic modulus of elasticity and ultrasonic pulse velocity of each exposure mode was shown smaller in order of full immersion, wetting/drying, half imersion.3. The relation between dynamic modulus of elasticity and ultrasonic pulse velocity was highly significant. The dynamic modulus of elasticity was increased with increase of ultrasonic pulse velocity. The decreasing rate of the dynamic modulus of elasticity was shown 2.1~3.4 times higher than the ultrasonic pulse velocity at each age, exposure environment and mode, respectively. 4. The expansion of each exposure environment and mode was increased with increase of curing age. The dynamic modulus of elasticity and ultrasonic pulse velocity of those concrete was increased with increase of curing age. At the curing age 28 days, the highest properties was showed at each type concrete, it was gradually decreased with increase of curing age. Specially, at the curing age 98 days of full immersion, the rate of expansion of type D was shown 3.95 times higher than the type A. But the dynamic modulus of elasticity and ultrasonic pulse velocity was decreased 17% and 8.3%.
The conversion of methanol to hydrocarbons has been studied over synthetic ZSM-5 zeolite catalyst having high silica to alumina ratio. The conversion products were olefins, paraffins, cycloparaffins, and aromatics, and the catalyst showed especially high selectivity toward the formation of aromatics. The catalyst showed the shape-selectivity and the size of molecules in the product was limited approximately to the size of 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene. Hydrogen form(HZSM-5) was more active, indicating reactions following the dehydration of methanol seemed to be mainly catalyzed by acid sites. Comparison of the reaction characteristics and acid site distribution of the ZSM-5 catalyst with those of mordenite and faujasite type catalysts suggests that cross-linked pore channel structure and the strong acidity of the ZSM-5 catalyst are primarily responsible for the selective formation of aromatics over this catalyst.
