Carbon nanotubes were synthesized at various conditions using Ni-catalytic thermal chemical vapor deposition method and their characteristic properties were investigated by SEM, TEM and Raman spectroscopy. Carbon nanotubes were formed on very fine Ni-catalytic particles. The carbon nanotubes synthesized by thermal decomposition of acetylene at $700^{\circ}C$ had a coiled shape, while those synthesized at $850^{\circ}C$ showed a curved and Y-shape having a bamboo-like morphology. It was found that the carbon nanotube was also made on the fine Ni-catalytic particles formed on the surface of 100~400nm sized large ones after pretreatment with $NH_3$.ber composites show the high dielectric constant and large conduction loss which is increased with anisotropy of fiber arrangement. It is, therefore, proposed that the glass and carbon fiber composites can be used as the impedance transformer (surface layer) and microwave reflector, respectively. By inserting the foam core or honeycomb core (which can be treated as an air layer) between glass and carbon fiber composites, microwave absorption above 10 dB (90% absorbance) in 4-12 GHz can be obtained. The proposed fiber composites laminates with sandwitch structure have high potential as lightweight and high strength microwave absorbers.

In this work, carbon nanofibers have synthesized a low temperature using DC Ar Plasma and Fe-Phthalocyanine, and a characteristic difference of the synthesized CNF according to the location of the substrate was investigated. the density of CNFs synthesized on the position (a) were higher than that synthesized on the position (b) [See the Fig. 1]. Also, the length of CNFs was different. In the shape, CNFs with screw and straight line shape were synthesized in the position (a), but only CNFs with straight line shape were synthesized in the position (b). The difference have an important effect on the field emission characteristics.

Diamond Like Carbon film is amorphous film which is considered to consist of three coordinate graphite structure and tetrahedron coordinate diamond structure. Its hardness, thermal conductivity and chemical stability are nearly to one of diamond. It is well known to become semi-conductor by doping of inpurity. In this study Diamond Like Carbon film was synthesized by Microwave Plasma CVD in the gas mixture of hydrogen-methan-nitrogen and doped of nitrogen on the single-crystal silicon or silica glass. The temperature of substrate and nitrogen concentration in the gas mixture had an effect on the bonding state, structural properties and conduction mechanism. The surface morphology was observed by Scanning Electron Microscope. The strucure was analyzed by laser Raman spectrometry. The bonding state was evaluated by electron spectroscopy. Diamond Like Carbon film synthesized was amorphous carbon containing the $sp^2$ and $sp^3$ carbon cluster. The number of $sp^2$ bonding increased as nitrogen concentration increased from 0 to 40 vol% in the feed gas at 1233K substrate temperature and at $7.4\times10^3$ Pa. Increase of nitrogen concentration made Diamond Like Carbon to be amorphous and the doze of nitragen could be controlled by nitrogen concentration of feed gas.

Carbon nanofibers have synthesized a low temperature using DC Ar plasma and Fe-Phthalocyanine, and a characteristic difference of the synthesized CNF according to the location of the substrate was investigated. The carbon nanofibers had about 100nm diameter and up to $10{\mu}m$ length. These were grown in random orientation. There are two shapes in the CNFs, screw and straight line shapes. Furthermore, we found the selective growth of nanofibers on the scratched substrates. The density of CNFs synthesized on the position (a) were higher than that synthesized on the position (b) [See the Fig. 2]. Also, the length of CNFs was different. In the shape, CNFs with screw and straight line shape were synthesized in the position (a), but. only CNFs with straight line shape were synthesized in the position (b). The difference have an important effect on the field emission characteristics.
Nitrogen-rich carbon dots (NDots) were synthesized by using uric acid as carbon and nitrogen sources. The as-synthesized NDots showed strong dual emissions at 420 nm and 510 nm with excitation at 350 nm and 460 nm, respectively. The physicochemical analyses such as X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Transmission electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy were used to analyze the chemical, physical and morphological structures of NDots. The as-synthesized NDots exhibited wide linear range (0-100 µM) and very low detection limit (124 nM) in Ag+ ion sensing. In addition, Ag+ saturated NDots could be used as an EDTA sensor by the EDTA induced PL recovery.

The influence of the water vapor on the growth of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) was investigated. SWCNTs were synthesized by catalytic chemical vapor deposition of acetylene over Fe-Mo/MgO catalyst with injection of water vapor. The morphologies and structures of the water-assisted SWCNTs were investigated according to the growth conditions such as water vapor concentrations, flow rate of the gas, furnace temperature, and growth time. Water-assisted SWCNTs exhibited large bundle morphological features with well-alignment of each CNT, while SWCNTs synthesized in the absence of water vapor showed entangled CNT with the random orientation. We also found that the diameter of the SWCNT bundle could be controlled by the growth condition. In our optimal growth condition, the product yield and the purity were 300 wt. % and 75%, which were 7.5 and 2.5 times higher than those of SWCNTs synthesized without water vapor, respectively. More detail discussion will be offered at the poster presentation.
Polyacetylene (PA) films with vertically aligned fibril morphology were synthesized in homeotropic nematic liquid crystal (N-LC) solvent by using a magnetic field of 5 Tesla as an external perturbation. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) photographs indicated that the lengths of fibrils from the substrate were $5-35{\mu}m$, depending on polymerization time. Carbonization was carried out using iodine-doped PA film and a morphology-retaining carbonization method. From the SEM results, we confirmed that the vertical morphology of the PA remains unchanged even after carbonization at $800^{\circ}C$. The weight loss of the films due to carbonization at $800^{\circ}C$ is about 20% of the weight of the film before iodine doping. It is expected that vertically aligned carbon might be a precursor for preparing vertical graphite materials, which materials could be useful for electrochemical energy storage and cell electrodes.
Isolated single wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) were synthesized by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) using a liquid precursor (xylene) as a carbon source. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and atomic force microscopy confirmed the isolated structure of the SWCNTs. Micro-Raman measurements showed a tangential G-band peak ($1590cm^{-1}$) and radial breathing mode (RBM) peaks ($150-240cm^{-1}$). The tube diameters determined from the RBM frequencies are in good agreement with those obtained from TEM. The chirality of the isolated SWCNTs could be determined based on the energy of the laser and their diameter. A further preliminary study on the nitrogen doping of isolated SWCNTs was carried out by the simple use of acetonitrile dissolved in the precusor.
Thin films of carbon-nano materials (CNMs) of different morphology have been successfully deposited on ceramic substrate by CVD at temperatures $800^{\circ}C$, $850^{\circ}C$ and $900^{\circ}C$ using plant based oils in the presence of transition metal catalysts (Ni, Co and Ni/Co alloys). Based on the return and insertion loss, microwave absorption properties of thin film of nanocarbon material are measured using passive micro-Strip line components. The result indicates that amongst CNMs synthesized from oil of natural precursors (mustered oil - Brassica napus, Karanja oil - Pongamia glabra, Cotton oil - Gossipium hirsuta and Neem oil - Azadirachta indica) carbon nano fibers obtained from neem's seed oil showed better microwave absorption (~20dB) in the range of 8.0 GHz to 17.90 GHz.

Several forms of nanonetworked carbon materials were synthesized by high pressure and high temperature treatments of fullerene C$\_$60/ and single-walled carbon nanotube bundles. Structural properties (e.g. thermal expansion coefficients and compressibilities) of the synthesized materials were investigated by XRD measurements using synchrotron X-ray. Their formation mechanisms are also discussed.
