  • In this paper, we propose an interactive genetic algorithm (IGA) to implement an automated 2D avatar synthesis. The IGA technique is capable of expressing user's personality in the avatar synthesis by using the user's response as a candidate for the fitness value. Our suggested IGA method isapplied to creating avatars automatically. Unlike the previous works, we introduce the concepts of 'hidden population', as well as 'primitive avatar' and 'simplified genotype', which are used to overcome the shortcomings of IGA such as human fatigue or reliability, and reasonable rates of convergence with a less number of iterations.   • This paper presents the vibration control of a glass-fiber reinforced thermoplastic composite beam with a distributed PVDF sensor and piezo-ceramic achlator. The three types of different controllen which are PID, H$\infty$ , and p-synthesis ontrollcr are employed to achieve vibration suppression in the transient vibration of composite beam. In the H$\infty$ , controller design, 1st and 2nd natural frequencies are considered in the modeling, because robust control theory which has robustness to struchred uncertainty is adopled Lo suppress the vibration. If the controller designed by H$\infty$ , theory does not satisfy control performance, it is improved by $\mu$ -synthesis method with D-K iteration so that the$\mu$-contoller based on the structured singular value satisfies the nominal performance and robust performance Simulations and experiments were carried out with the designed controllers m order to demonstrate the suppression efficiency of each controller.

Estimation of Theoretical Yield for Ethanol Production from D-Xylose by Recombinant Saccharomyces cerevisiae Using Metabolic Pathway Synthesis Algorithm

  • The metabolic pathway synthesis algorithm was applied to estimate the maximum ethanol yield from xylose in a model recombinant Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain containing the genes involved in xylose metabolism. The stoichiometrically independent pathways were identified by constructing a biochemical reaction network for conversion of xylose to ethanol in the recombinant S. cerevisiae. Two independent pathways were obtained in xylose-assimilating recombinant S. cerevisiae as opposed to six independent pathways for conversion of glucose to ethanol. The maximum ethanol yield from xylose was estimated to be 0.46 g/g, which was lower than the known value of 0.51 g/g for glucose-fermenting and wild-type xylose-fermenting yeasts.

  • TixZr1-xC(0$0^{\circ}C$, 5.1 mm/sec respectively. The relative density, three point flexural strength, and the hardness of composites, which was sintered at 190$0^{\circ}C$ for 60 min by using hot-pressing under a pressure of 30 MPa, were 99%, 525 MPa and 24 GPa respectively.

A method for Clock Selection in High-Level Synthesis (상위수준 합성에서의 클록 선택 방법)

  • Clock selection has a significant impact on the performance and quality of designs in high-level synthesis. Almost systems require that the clock length is required prior to scheduling, the best value of the clock can be found only after evaluating different schedules. In this study, we presents a scheduling method that works simultaneously with synthesis by selecting a clock from a chainable operation set. Our scheduling algorithm is based on list scheduling and executes chaining considering bit level delays based on selected clock period. Experimental results show that our method improves the performance by 18 percent.

Kinetic Study of Thermolysin-Catalyzed Synthesis of N-(Benzyloxycarbonyl)-L-Phenylalanyl-L-Leucine Ethyl Ester in an Ethyl Acetate Saturated Aqueous System

  • The kinetics of the thermolysin-catalyzed synthesis of N-(benzyloxycarbonyl)-L-phenylalanyl-L-leucine ethyl ester (Z-Phe-LeuOEt) from N-(benzyloxycarbonyl)-L-phyenylalanine (Z-Phe) and L-leucine ethyl ester (LeuOEt) in an ethyl acetate saturated aqueous system in a batch operation were studied. The kinetics for the synthesis of Z-Phe-LeuOEt were expressed using a rate equation for the rapid equilibrium random bireactant mechanism. The four kinetic constants involved in the rate equation were determined numerically by the quasi-Newton method so as to fit the calculated results with the experimental data. Within the pH and temperature range examined, the $K_{cat}$ value for the synthesis of Z-Phe-LeuOEt reached a maximum at pH 7.0 and $45^{\circ}C$, whereas the affinity between Z-Phe and thermolysin reached a maximum at pH 6.0 adn $40^{\circ}C$. The inhibitory effect of Z-Phe on the condensation reaction decreased as the pH and temperature decreased. In contrast, they affinity between LeuOEt and thermolysin remained unchanged within the pH and temperature range examined. Therefore, it was concluded that the protonation state of the carboxyl groups. of Z-Phe was more imprtant than that of the amono groups of LeuOEt for the synthesis of Z-Phe-LeuOEt in the present solvent system. The equilibrium yield at pH 6.0 and $30^{\circ}C$ was 8% higher than that at pH 7.0 and $40^{\circ}C$, although the rate was much slower. This result suggested that the affinity between the enzyme and the substrate rather than the overall rate was a more important factor affecting the equilibrium yield, when the peptide synthesis was carried out in a product-precipitation system.

  • Using barley seeds (Hordeum sativum Jess, var.), the influences of gibberellic acid (GA) and indole-3-acetic acid(IAA) on the amylase synthesis and that of the nucleic acid metabolism were investigated. 1. With the deembrynized barley seeds, the increase of amylase treated with a $10^{-5}M$ of GA and the decrease of amylase treated with $10^{-5}M$IAA were matched by a proportionate increase and decrease in the amount of RNA. The influence of the hormones on the RNA synthesis has appeared immediately after the treatment but on the amylase synthesis it has appeared 8 hours later. But no influence on the DNA synthesis was observed on both hormones. 2. The amylase from deembryonized barley seeds treated with GA and IAA have been fractionated by gel filteration on Sephadex G-100. The amylase components showed four fractions on both enzymes treated with GA and IAA. Fraction I(FI) was differed from fraction Ⅵ(FIV) in Km value and the effects of temperature, pH and metal ions. On the basis of their emzymatic properties, it was considered that the FI was $\beta$-amylase and FIV was $\alpha$-amylase. The influences of GA and IAA on each fractions appeared to be similar but on the amylase units per souble protein, IAA inhibited the production of amylase FIV while it promoted that of amylase FI. 3. An experiment was conducted to determine whether IAA inhibits GA-promoted amylase synthesis competitively or non-competitively. Using a Lineweaver-Burk plot, it was clear that IAA was acting in a non-competitive fashion. From this, IAA was probably not competing with GA at the same site, but it was acting at some other site which resutled in partial blocking of the action of GA on the amylase synthesis.

  • The purpose of this work is to analyze and synthesize the pseudo-periodicity of voice using a source model. A speech signal has periodic characteristics; however, it is not completely periodic. While periodicity contributes significantly to the production of prosody, emotional status, etc., pseudo-periodicity contributes to the distinctions between normal and abnormal status, the naturalness of normal speech, etc. Measurement of pseudo-periodicity is typically performed through parameters such as jitter and shimmer. For studying the pseudo-periodic nature of voice in a controlled environment, through collected natural voice, we can only observe the distributions of the parameters, which are limited by the size of collected data. If we can generate voice samples in a controlled manner, experiments that are more diverse can be conducted. In this study, the probability distributions of vowel pitch variation are obtained from the speech signal. Based on the probability distribution of vocal folds, pulses with a designated jitter value are synthesized. Then, the target and re-analyzed jitter values are compared to check the validity of the method. It was found that the jitter synthesis method is useful for normal voice synthesis.

  • Noncatalytic partial oxidation of methane for producing synthesis gas was studied in a lab-scale experimental apparatus. Partial oxidation developed for high-temperature, fuel-rich combustion and it is exothermic process. but Steam reforming and Caron reforming is highly endothermic process to need much energy. Noncatalytic partial oxidation of methane is affected by temperature and equivalent ratio, so we studied effect about composition of synthesis gas at lab scale reactor. We used electronic heater to control the temperature of reactor. The quality of synthesis gas is improved and reduced heat value to require at Noncatalytic partial oxidation because the reacting temperature is lower at oxy condition.

GROWTH OF THE SUBSTRATE CRYSTALS FOR $La_{2-x}Sr_xCuO_4$ THICK FILMS

  • Single crystal of Li2Cu1-xMxO4 (M=Ni, Zn) are promising as a substrate to realize superconducting electronic devices. The distribution coefficients of Ni and Zn to the Cu site in La2CuO4 (LCO) were estimated by the zone melting technique to grow high quality single crystals of La2Cu1-xMxO4(M=Ni, Zn). The distribution coefficient value of Ni was estimated to be 4.2 and that of Zn was estimated to be 0.66, respectively. Suitable solvent compositions were determined using these values to grow single crystals by he traveling floating zone (TSFZ) method. Single crystal of LCO, La2Cu1-xMxO4(M=Ni(x=0.01, 0.02, 0.03, 0.04), Zn(x=0.01, 0.02, 0.03) of high homogeneity were grown. The behaviors of the magnetization of these as-grown crystals do not indicate superconductivity except LCO. Ni or Zn substitution can make LCO non superconductor. This fact suggest that single crystals substituted by Ni or Zn are useful as substrate crystals.
