This study is to analyze the social symbolism of the dress described in the traditional Korean folktale focusing on the Chosen Dynasty. As references, An outline of the Korean oral literature: 82 volumes in total and written Korean narrative:7 volumes in total written by Kim Hyen Ryong were selected. As regards method of study, first, the social symbolism of the dress described in the traditional folktale has been extracted: afterwards, those were classified and summarized according to theme of a clothing, hairstyle, and belt, etc. And the social symbolism of the dress has been analyzed based on the theory of symbolism. As a result of the analysis, following conclusion has been obtained. First, political relationship and ideology represented through costumes. Second, old customary clothing behaviour represented. Third, sex and age symbolism were represented through protagonists. Fourth, married or unmarried symbolim represented.

As an essential factor of plasticity in fashion, color reflects socio-cultural trends and has possessed different symbolism in its historical development. This study aims to search for an academic approach towards finding out how the concepts and symbolism of the color white were expressed in actual clothing. This will be realized through the investigation of the various meanings this particular color possesses. The secondary purpose of this study is to give shape to the results of above said academic investigation by proposing their integration into actual fashion design. The methodology employed in this study and results are as follows. First, the symbolism of the color white abstracted from the research of literature on this subject was classified into six categories; purity, grace, abstinence, sublimity, decorativeness, and avant-garde. Second, for empirical research, six designs were developed and produced into white dresses. The development of these dress designs was realized by presenting the symbolism of the aforementioned six categories into images, and the formative constructions of these images by applying various design details, expressive techniques, and characteristics of the materials. Through an investigation into the color white, which has been excluded from previous chromatics research as a major color, integration of the symbolism and chromatic image of this color into the actual fashion design process is made possible. The significance of this study is in that it proposes multifarious possibilities in fashion design, and also in extending the horizon of chromatics research in fashion through the realization of the above process.

This study analyzes the symbolism of costume in the genre paintings of Yoon Bok Shin, the great artist of Korea in eighteenth century, based on the symbolic interaction theory. We classify the symbolic character into tow categories, the symbolism of social status and position as a social factor, and erotic symbol as a sexual factor. The symbolism of the social status and position include the sex, age, class, occupation, and diginity. From the costume In the paintings, the symbolic character of the clothing in the social and sexual contexts can be visualized.

The moral instruction expresses and conveys a abstract objects so called moral. And it pursues occurrence of moral meaning contained a emotion. In these respects, there is a resemblance between moral instruction and artistic symbolic language. Meanwhile, the poetry are a typical form of artistic symbolic language, and especially poetic symbolism is a representative and possible way that expresses accepting a meaning of abstract objects. Then a moral instruction needs to be poetic symbolism. The poetic symbolism that a moral instruction intends to resemble is a linguistic expression, but at the same time that is a expression beyond a linguistic limitation for conveying the metaphysical meaning. For this, the poetic symbolism reveals visible and concrete vehicles that imply invisible and metaphysical tenor. At this point, poetic symbolism is characterized with sameness, implicitness, polysemy, context, allness. The poetic symbolism having these characters appears personal symbol of poet as combined with creative imagination, and is experienced poetic meaning as combined with creative imagination of reader. The moral instruction as a poetic symbolism offers learning experience similar to poetic experience. The moral instruction as a poetic symbolism would be constructed not a logical or prosaic explain but symbolic form that can draw various moral meaning. For this construction, first, we might find a symbolic media for materialization of teaching contents. Second, moral teaching should be constructed to be searching moral meaning of symbolic media. Third, moral teaching should be constructed to be interpreting moral meaning of symbolic media. When teacher can construct moral instruction as possible as similar to poetic symbolism, student can learn moral meaning combined with emotion through their response and interpretation to the teaching. It is very similar to good poem that is sympathized and accommodated poet's theme by reader.

The purpose of this study was to investigate clothing involvement and clothing behavior of women and to indentify the relationship between clothing behavior and clothing involvement. The data were analyzed using percentage, frequency, factor analysis, ANOVA, Scheffe test, t-test, and Multiple Regression. The results of the study were as follows: 1. Five dimensions of clothing involvement were derived by factor analysis such as fashion, interest pleasure, symbolism, and perceived buying risk. 2. There were significant relationships between clothing involvement dimensions and demographic characteristics such as age, educational background and family income level. Those who were younger and not married showed positive relationship among fashion, interest and pleasure of clothing involvement dimensions. Those who had higher educational background showed positive relationship with clothing involvement. Those who were empolyed showed higher clothing involvement with symbolism and perceived buying risk. 3. Age, marital status, and educational background showed important variables as factors that exert influence on clothing behavior: Those who were younger and not married attached importance to interest aesthetics, psychological dependence, and fashion. Those who were older and married attached importance to modesty and comfort. The more educated respondents were more concerned about interest aesthetics, symbolism, psychological dependence, and fashion. 4. The fashion of clothing involvement showed positive relationship in fashion, interest, symbolism, and psychological dependence of clothing behavior, and negative relationship in modesty and comfort. The interest of clothing involvement showed positive relationship in aesthetics and interest, and negative relationship in modesty and comfort of clothing behavior. The pleasure of clothing involvement showed positive relationship in psychological dependence, management, interest, and pleasure of clothing behavior. The symbolism of clothing involvement showed positive relationship in symbolism, modesty, conformity, psychological dependence, and fashion of clothing behavior. The perceived buying risk of clothing involvement showed positive relationship in management, conformity, and comfort and negative relationship in symbolism and fashion of clothing behavior.

The purpose of this study was to research Korean Jowoo-Guan and Chinese Hal-Guan and study transition and symbolism of the birds feather in the cap. The culture of ancient Korea was influenced by North Asia prior to the influence of the Chinese culture, One of the remarkable thing, as the cultural factor of North Asia is the birds worship thought. Korean Jowoo-Guan was derived from the birds worship thought. So in dealing with the plume of Korean Jowoo-Guan, we must recognize Worship to the bird and the symbolical meaning of the bird. The results of study was as follow. 1. Korean Jowoo-Guan was influenced worship to the sun, so it's wearing symbolized the governing class. As the Social development and governing class, the feathering cap was developed to a gold crown, and also the gold crown of Samguk times had been influenced style of North Asia culture. But afterwards the symbolical meaning of the bird was waning, only decorative meaning was remained. 2. Chinese Hal-Guan was warn in Joo-dynasty, but the symbolism of the plume in the cap was not similar to Korean Jowoo-Guan. Chinese Hal-Guan was symbolized bravery of superfluous soldier than Worship to the bird. But afterwards the symbolical meaning of bravery of superfluous soldier was waning, only decorative moaning was remained. 3. Though neighbor countries have mutually influenced and have similar cultural style, they have symbolism of themselves

The study alms to identify how the symbols and images of Greek Roman myths in contemporary fashion have been reflected in respects of meaning and forms, and to find out the organic course from meaning to forms by using Durand's classification. The results define the significance of Greek Roman myths in contemporary fashion, and systematically suggest a direction of imagination for more creative design. In the diurne regime, the symbolism of purity, heroism and fear appeared. In the nocturne regime, the symbolism of maternity and sensuality appeared. In the dramatic regime, the symbolism of androgyny appeared. The characteristics of designs contained in each symbolism are common. In this regard, it is possible to trace organic relationships in the creation of images through the verbal scheme. In addition, the verbal scheme creates archetypal images that lead to images and symbols in the socio-cultural context, so it is possible to analyze the relationships between archetypal images and the format of garments. The study examined how the archetypal images that appeared in the mythical images were expressed in garments through the verbal system.

This research analyzes how our people use the social position and status symbolism of the dress in focus of the Chosun Dynasty Period by analysis data of traditional folktale. This research material was analyzed social position and status symbolism of the dress with basis on Korean Oral Literature grand volumes of 82 published by The Academy of Korean Studies and whole volumes of 7 of Korean Literature Traditional , Folktale written by Kimhyunrwong. The methods of study is that first, selected part of describing social position and status of dress from the traditional Korean folktale. Second, summmarized things classified such as clothes, shape of hair and belt. Third, analyzed social position and status of dress with basis on symbol theory to be pre-studied. As a result, 1 can get the next conclusion. First, in case of the dress symbolism of social position and status, we classify as class. occupation, surreal person. Second, the changes of the social position and status showed upward position or downward position, and occupation change. Third, symbolization of position disguise was classified disguise of social position, sex, occupation.
