만화에서의 다양한 연출은 웹툰의 대중화와 함께 세로 스크롤 연출이 기존의 출판만화의 페이지 연출과 대립하는 양상을 보이며 새로운 장르를 구축해냈다. 많은 출판만화의 연구가 페이지를 위시한 컷 연출에 초점을 두고 있지만, 웹툰에는 페이지의 개념이 없다. 대중 지향의 만화는 시대의 변화에 따라 구심점이 지면에서 컴퓨터 모니터로 옮겨가며 매체의 특성 또한 달라졌으며, 매체는 점점 다원화되고 있다. 스마트폰의 유행으로 인한 모바일의 강세, 공교육에서의 태블릿 PC의 보급화 전망과 같이, 만화는 급변하는 매체환경에 속해있다. 이러한 상황에서도 만화의 변하지 않는 중요한 정체성중의 하나를 꼽자면 그림과 텍스트의 조합이 만들어 내는 연출이다. 이 논문에서는 허영만의 작품을 중심으로 만화 의태어인 효과태가 가진 상징어적인 특성과 효용가치를 분석하였다. 효과태는 단지 소리뿐만이 아니라 모양, 느낌, 상태 등을 전달하며 문학적 상상구조를 발동시킴으로써 함축적 특성을 가진다. 현대국어의 장점인 다양한 언어 표현과 자모체계는 미세한 어감과 정서의 차이점을 느끼게 해주며 직접 경험과 간접 경험을 통한 기억을 떠올려서 뉘앙스화하기 때문이다. 이러한 특징들로 인해서 허영만의 대표작들은 상업성과 작가성을 동시에 지니고 오랜 세월동안 대중과의 소통을 해왔으며 한국적인 만화의 소양을 풍부하게 가지고 있다. 허영만의 만화에 나타난 효과태의 특징은 만화의 표현과 전달에 있어서 일반적인 기대 이상으로 효과태가 미치는 영향이 크다는 것을 알 수가 있다. 피수용자인 독자는 그림과 글 사이에서 적극적으로 지적인 추리를 하면서 그 과정 자체를 즐기며, 그러한 과정에 대사 텍스트 이상으로 상상력을 자극하는 장치가 효과태이며, 효과태는 상징적 구조를 장점으로 하는 독자의 능동적 참여 장치이다.

Emergy concept was used to evaluate the contributions of a dam construction to the real wealth of our economy. A dam that is proposed as a multi-purpose dam was used to illustrate emergy evaluation methodology. Models for emergy evaluation were constructed with energy systems language, a symbolic modeling language which presents network properties of systems holistically. Water supply was the most important contribution in terms of emergy, which reflects that the dam is proposed for stable water supply to a local region. Generation of electricity was the second in emergy benefits of the dam. Emergy costs were more evenly distributed among the costs which would occur as a result of the dam construction. Emergy yield ratio was 1.30 if sediments are not included, and 1.15 if sediments are included, which results in net yield in both cases. The ratio would, however, fall below 1.0 if rare species within the system boundary are lost as a result of the dam construction because of the high emergy value included in biotic species, which means that emergy costs will be greater than emergy benefits. This study illustrated a new methodology in environmental impact assessment to better manage our environments in an age of diminishing resources.

버드휘스텔(Birdwhistell)은 말이 전하는 의미는 전체커뮤니케이션의 35%이하에 불과하고 나머지 65% 이상은 비언어적 형태로 전달되며 인간은 전적으로 언어에 의해 의사소통을 하는 존재가 아니라 모든 감각을 사용하는 감각적 존재라고 설명하고 있다. 인간의 커뮤니케이션은 언어 외에 표정, 몸 동작 등을 통해 보다 더 구체적인 의미 전달이 가능하며, 특히 얼굴표정은 개인의 성격, 관심, 반응에 대한 정보 및 감정의 상태를 전달해주는 다면적 메시지체계로 강력한 커뮤니케이션 도구라고 할 수 있다. 다양한 표현기법과 표현의 정도, 특성에 따라 달라질 수 있지만 표정이 갖는 상징적 기호는 일반화 된 특성을 가지고 있다. 스토리상의 등장인물로서 내면세계와 심리적 상태가 행동이나 표정으로 자연스럽게 노출되고 읽어낼 수 있는 감정표현에서 애니메이션 캐릭터는 생명력을 갖는다.

This paper describes a preliminary work on prosody modeling aspect of a text-to-speech system for Thai. Specifically, the model is designed to predict symbolic markers from text (i.e., prosodic phrase boundaries, accent, and intonation boundaries), and then using these markers to generate pitch, intensity, and durational patterns for the synthesis module of the system. In this paper, a novel method for annotating the prosodic structure of Thai sentences based on dependency representation of syntax is presented. The goal of the annotation process is to predict from text the rhythm of the input sentence when spoken according to its intended meaning. The encoding of the prosodic structure is established by minimizing speech disrhythmy while maintaining the congruency with syntax. That is, each word in the sentence is assigned a prosodic feature called strength dynamic which is based on the dependency representation of syntax. The strength dynamics assigned are then used to obtain rhythmic groupings in terms of a phonological unit called foot. Finally, the foot structure is used to predict the durational pattern of the input sentence. The aforementioned process has been tested on a set of ambiguous sentences, which represents various structural ambiguities involving five types of compounds in Thai.

본 논문에서는 논리 설계 자동화를 위한 레지스터 전송 레벨의 하드웨어 흐름도와 하드웨어 기술언어 SDL-II (symbolic description language)를 각각 제안한다. SDL-II는 일반화된 FSM(finite state machine)의 동작 및 구조적 특성을 제안하는 하드웨어 흐름도로 표현하고 이의 각 기호에 1대 1 대응하며 제어부와 데이타 전송부를 함께 기술하도록 구문을 설정한다. 또한 여러가지 설계 요구조건을 하드웨어 흐름도로 표현하고 이를 SDL-II로 기술하여 본 논문의 유효성을 보인다.

Despite the ubiquity of love in the work of Sarah Kane, the theme has been overshadowed by the violence that characterizes her early plays. This essay differentiates Kane from her contemporary "in-yer-face" playwrights, arguing that violence in Kane operates as a means of securing love. Antonin Artaud's concept of cruelty, often (mis)understood in a physical sense alone, provides a clue to the nature of Kane's violence and its relation to love. The essay focuses on Cleansed and Crave, both written in 1998, one about love's redemptive possibility, the other about its pure impossibility. What makes Cleansed hopeful is its violence that works as love's obstacle, creating the illusion that once it is removed love would be possible. The absence of violence in Crave on the contrary lays the illusion of love bare, making it Kane's most despairing play. Kane's oeuvre draws a trajectory of love from hope to despair; as a whole it stages the impossibility of love. To love the other requires the relinquishing of the self, making love logically impossible by depriving the verb of its subject. Love, if possible, would offer the bliss of unity, tearing out the constraint of the Symbolic Order. Kane's only alternative is death, as is expressed in Crave and 4.48 Psychosis.

인공신경망 기반 기계번역(Neural Machine Translation, NMT)이란 딥러닝(Deep learning)을 이용하여 출발 언어의 문장을 도착 언어 문장으로 번역해주는 시스템을 일컫는다. NMT는 종단간 학습(end-to-end learning)을 이용하여 기존 기계번역 방법론의 성능을 앞지르며 기계번역의 주요 방법론으로 자리잡게 됐다. 이러한 발전에도 불구하고 여전히 개체(entity), 또는 전문 용어(terminological expressions)의 번역은 미해결 과제로 남아있다. 개체나 전문 용어는 대부분 명사로 구성되는데 문장 내 명사는 주체, 객체 등의 역할을 하는 중요한 요소이므로 이들의 정확한 번역이 문장 전체의 번역 성능 향상으로 이어질 수 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 지식그래프(Knowledge Graph)를 이용하여 심볼릭 지식을 NMT와 결합한 뉴럴심볼릭 방법론을 제안한다. 또한 지식그래프를 활용하여 NMT의 성능을 높인 선행 연구 방법론을 한영 기계번역에 이용할 수 있도록 구조를 설계한다.

This essay is an attempt to critique the notion of hybridity that has so far facilitated a liberal multiculturalist reading of White Teeth. For an alternative framework, it posits the multiethnic subject-making to examine in what ways the novel questions the premises of liberal multiculturalism. In this vein, this study suggests that Smith throws some significant light on the underside of holding multiple racial/ethnic identities while not bypassing its utopian possibilities. In case of the first-generation male characters, their crossracial/homosocial friendship becomes a platform for a mode of egalitarian belonging across the racial divide. It further implies a symbolic union between working-class white and nonwhite immigrant. The younger generation, in contrast, undergoes problems of racial, ethnic, cultural affiliations in far more complicated ways than the older one. Above all, White Teeth demonstrates the subtle workings of liberal multiculturalism, within which the younger characters are constructed to be a multiethnic subject in varied modes. It delineates the formation mainly by exploring the persisting legacies of Britain's imperial history that partake in their subject-making. The novel, in doing so, obliquely suggests that the younger generation is to confront the past that is a seminal part of their present life rather than have the freedom to throw it away to be a carefree member of a multicultural society.

Objectives: The purpose of the study was to develop a textbook of the integrated education of Korean food culture and language for married female immigrants. Methods: An analysis was conducted with the textbooks and researches for married female immigrants, and dietary life related contents were extracted. The contents were organized by activity oriented approach which is acquired the culture. The evaluation was conducted through depth interview with 6 married female immigrants through an analysis of the qualitative materials. Results: The text book comprised of 30 Korean food recipes with the target expressions and vocabularies. It also included Korean basic table setting, Korean table manner, main dishes and side dishes, basic cutting, seasoning and garnish, measure of the ingredients, symbolic food, regional food culture, choice of food ingredients, shopping, bargaining, taste expression, color expression, all sorts of spices, Korean traditional festival food, and seasonal customs and food. For intensifying communication, activity which is close to real life was added. Through cooking, married female immigrants expose words and sentence patterns and that allows to evaluate their level of understanding. We observed that the developed textbook is suited for married female immigrants' needs and cognitive level. The text book included a comparative study between Korean culture and their country's culture, which could provide the motive for accepting each other's cultures. The study showed how to develop a textbook that integrates Korean language education and Korean food culture and how to apply the textbook in real life. Conclusions: The correct understanding about Korean food culture could lead to improvements communication ability. Useful information which relates to Korean food, recipes, and food culture could increase daily life satisfaction. Conducting both cultural education and language education could increase the participation of married female immigrants in learning activities. Therefore this study could help these females to adapt Korean society and manage family dietary life effectively.

다양한 문화와 문명 속에서 예술가들은 새로운 무언가를 창작하기 보다는 고전의 아름다움을 재해석하고 현대에 맞게 정의 하는 새로운 발상을 시도하고 있다. 즉, 현대의 문화 트렌드는 넘쳐나는 많은 정보들 속에서 고전의 감성과 예술가의 현대적 감각이 합쳐지는 새로운 문화가 수행되고 있는 시점이다. 본 연구는 이러한 문화의 변화에 맞춰 다양한 문화와 디자인의 결합을 시도하고자한다. 소설 이효석의 메밀꽃 필 무렵에 나타난 개인의 심리적 정서, 불가능한 체험의 세계를 표현한 특징을 바탕으로 현실과 상상 속 이분화 된 세계의 경계 부분인 불완전한 의식 영역은 사고와 잠재적인 세계로서 독자로 하여금 상상력을 일으키며, 이러한 문학적 서정성은 새로운 문화를 형성하는 분야이다. 또한 시각화하기 좋은 언어의 구성으로 연구자는 소설 속에서의 언어를 바탕으로 그 속에 내재되어 있는 상징적, 심상적 아름다움을 디자인의 소재로 활용하여 조형분석 하고자 한다.
