This research studied the classification and meanings of symbols on the clothes of he Koran catholic priest. The results are as follows. 1) Symbol of religios spirits and values. - There are many spirits of crist which require to keep and meanings of innocence. 2) Symbol of status - served to symbolize the conscious change from earthy to ordaned man. 3) Symbol of role - differentiate between the role of priest and aid-priest. 4) Symbol of position(or rank) - indicate the position of priests in catholic church. 5) Symbol of situation. 6) Symbol of ritual ceremony - characterized the ritual ceremony.

The purpose of this study is analyzation of the clothing symbolism on the words of a popular music. The result shows that clothing symbolism on the popular music has a strong relationship with the periodic background. And also that represented the importance of the clothing as a symbol.

This study analyzes the symbolism of uniform in modern Korea, based on the symbolic interaction theory. I classify a representative symbol among many symbols in one uniform. I found the sex, age, occupation, situation, religious, group belogning,cleanlines,authority, superiority, and rank symbol in the modern Koran uniform.

From ancient times. lotus pattern had esthetic factor and symbolic factor. Lotus pattern was introduced to China, and it was grafted together with Chinese peculiar culture symbol system, thereafter it has changed and developed. The Chinese taking a serious view meaning that things include, and they frequently use several lucky omen patterns in their everyday life. In this study, I investigated laying stress on symbolism about Lotus patterns of China lucky omen patterns, and I wanted to present possibility that can approach to Chinese culture in new angle. Through result of this study, symbol of Lotus patterns can divide two directions. First, symbol by natural properties of lotus are same as following. 1. Lotus grows in the mud, but it is uncontaminated - clearness and uprightness, 2. Root, branches, loaves and flowers are vegetative together, and all of basis and branches are exuberant. - plenty, 3. Bear fruit simultaneously with blooming, and it is procreant. - fecundity and many descendants. Symbol that use same pronunciation and intention are same as following. 1. 'Lian(연)'-'Lian(연)' : repeatability, continuance, plenty and intercommunicate, 2. 'Lian(연)'-'Lian(염)': integrity, 3. 'He (하)'-'He(화)' : peace, harmony and combination, 4. 'He(하)'-'He(하)' : clear river, 5.'He(하)'-'He(하)' ; all work goes well. When the Chinese use lotus patterns in lucky omen patterns, same pronunciation and pitch of Chinese language more prominent than natural properties or the image of Buddhism. I guess that it cause praying individual's peace and happiness more serious than philosophical meaning or symbol that base in Buddhism for ordinary people.

본 논문은 다양한 소수민족으로 구성된 중국의 가장 대표적 소수민족인 내몽고자치구의 몽고족을 중심으로 그들의 문화상징에 대한 인식과 민족 정체성 확립을 위한 문화상징요소를 설문조사를 통해 체계적으로 정립하여 향후 몽고족의 대외 홍보 및 디자인에 응용 가능한 학제적 기초를 마련하고자한다. 본 논문은 객관적 자료를 위해 몽고족 및 타민족 300명을 대상으로 설문조사 하였으며 그 결과 대부분 몽고족은 소수민족임에 자부심을 느끼고 있으며 소수민족을 대표하는 민족이라 인식하고 있다. 몽고족의 민족성은 사회성이 높고 장식하기 좋아하는 심미성이 있으며, 창의성, 신뢰성, 진취성이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 또한 문화상징의 디자인요소 선호도에서는 색상은 청색, 문양은 성길사한의 인물 문양, 재질은 마노를 선호하였으며 상징의미는 평화가 가장 높았다. 문화상징 활용은 축제 때 가장 많이 사용하는 것으로 나타났으며 의류에 가장 많이 적용되는 것으로 파악 되었다. 이런 문화상징을 내몽고의 정체성 확립 및 홍보를 위해 적극 사용해야 한다는 의견이 높았다. 몽고족 문화상징의 체계적 정립은 몽고족의 민족 정체성을 확립하는 중요한 일로, 민족적 의미와 문화적 사명 아래 민족문화자원과 잘 결합되어 소수민족문화의 발전에 도움이 될 뿐만 아니라 소수민족으로서 자부심을 고취시킬 것이다.

Clothing is a powerful medium that reflects the environment, situation, and trends of the times. It has been an important subject of semiotic analysis, particularly in East Asia. While Korea, China, Japan, and Mongolia are geographically close, they have each developed unique characteristics in their clothing. These characteristics continue to evolve over time. The purpose of this paper is to explore the modern fashion design characteristics of these four East Asian countries by using the Greimas symbol square. To achieve this, the paper follows a research method consisting of several steps. First, it considers previous studies on the topic. Second, it analyzes fashion collections from Paris, Milan, New York, and London, as well as the Seoul and Cruise collections, from 2013 to 2024. Third, it compares costumes and modern fashion designs of brands known for their East Asian influences. Finally, it applies the framework of the Greimas symbol square to analyze the main elements of dress culture in these four countries and their significance in modern fashion collections. The findings of this study reveal that East Asian costume culture can be summarized into four distinct characteristics in modern fashion. Korea is characterized by "moderation," China by "exaggeration," Japan by "distinctiveness," and Mongolia by "symbolism."

The purpose of this study is to examine the impacts of media symbol variety on group performance in virtual teams. Symbol variety is defined as the number of ways in which information can be communicated and includes Daft and Lengel [1986]'s multiplicity of cues and language variety. According to media richness theory and media synchronicity theory, the use of media with high symbol variety is assumed to facilitate and promote communications among virtual team members. Therefore, it is expected that the media symbol variety is positively associated with group performance in virtual teams. Furthermore, online relationship building is expected to mediate the impacts of symbol variety on the performance. To confirm the suppositions, a controlled lab experiment was conducted with 60 undergraduate students as subjects. In the experimental virtual teams, subjects were allowed to communicate with other members using text-based messenger with emoticons. Subjects in the control virtual teams were allowed to communicate using only text-based messenger. The direct impact of symbol variety on group performance in virtual teams was found insignificant. However, the online relationship was found to completely mediate the positive impact of symbol variety on group performance. The implications and limitations of this study are also discussed for future research.

The purpose of this study is to research of cultural symbol on Safavid lampas in Persia. The results are as follows. A significant feature of continuous pat-terns in lampas is the use of the human figure and a signature of designer's name in the Islamic world. Motifs can be identi-fied as Safavid lampas by the style of motifs such as birds leaves trees flowers on a gold or silver namely metal back-groud. the result shows that cultural symbol on Safavid lampas is connected with islamic culture.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the classification and meaning of symbols, of the clothes of the college students by sex-roll theory and identity theory. The clothes analyzed in this study were collected by photographs which were taken in the campus (240 out of 1,000 pictures) of the several colleges and universities in Seoul form fall in 1993 to summer in 1994. The results were as follow : 1. Analysis as a symbol of sexuality. The phenomenon of the visual inconsistency and consistency of sexual image in dress were showed simultaneously. The clothes of male students were generally becoming feminine style in materials and colors of clothes. These suggested that sex-roll theory be applied to their clothes. 2. Analysis as symbols of identification or individuality. The identification of shoes, bags, accessories, and hair styles were prominent than that of clothes. When it was analyzed as a symbol of individuality, the college students seemed to act as fashion leaders, who accepted new fashions and tried them on first. These suggested that Erikson′s theory on identity be applied to their clothes. 3. Analysis as a symbol of emblem. The dissimilarities of between the college students and other groups in the same generation were bright and casual attire with files, books, and sack. 4. Analysis as a symbol of campus ceremony. The clothes of college students on campus ceremonies were more causal and flexible than those of other groups in the same generation. It was known that the symbols showed above were reflected on their clothes as "one′s expressions" which are sex-roll, identity, and characteristics of college students.

한국 문화를 집약적으로 나타내는 상징은 문화 교육에서 효과적으로 활용될 수 있다. 한국인의 사상과 정서가 함축되어 있는 상징을 통해 한국의 정체성을 이해할 수 있기 때문이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 광범위한 상징체계 중에서 숫자 상징을 중심으로 한국 문화 교육에 활용할 수 있는 상징 교육 내용을 살펴보고자 한다. 이를 위해 한국어 교재에 숫자 상징을 활용할 수 있는 부분들이 어떻게 제시되어 있는지 분석하고, 한국 문화 이해에 실제적인 도움을 줄 수 있는 숫자 상징 교육 내용을 신화, 민속, 금기, 한국어 표현의 4개 범주로 구분하여 정리하고자 하였다. 이를 통해 추상적인 상징이 아닌 우리 일상생활에서 작용하고 있는 구체적인 숫자 상징의 의미를 파악할 수 있으며, 이는 한국어 교사와 외국인 학습자 사이의 문화 간 의사소통 및 서로 다른 문화적 배경을 가진 학습자들 사이의 문화 간 의사소통에 효과적으로 활용될 수 있다.
