Asymmetrical PWM for Harmonics Reduction and Power Factor Improvement in PWM AC Choppers Using Bee Colony Optimization

  • This paper presents the application of bee colony optimization (BCO) to obtain the optimal switching angles for single phase PWM AC choppers. The optimal switching angles are found in the region of 0-${\pi}$ based on the asymmetrical PWM technique. This PWM process results in improvements of the total harmonic distortion of the output voltage and in the input power factor. Simulation and experimental results are compared with the conventional PWM to verify the performance of the proposed PWM process.

  • This papaer is study on thermal analysis of the active-front-end(AFE) rectifier for solid-state-transformer(SST) applications. finite element analysis simulation model is combined by switching component model, power diode and heat-sink model. thermal model is calculated by computer program and feedback the result. using simulation result analysis switching loss and compare to thermal diffusion of the heat in the model for steady-state operation.

  • In this paper, the switching losses and performances of Silicon Carbide(SiC) and Silicon based on the MOSFETs have been compared. To do this experiment, the buck converter using both SiC and Si devices have been built and tested. As a result, it has been confirmed that the converter with SiC devices shows better efficiency and performance compared with the converter using Si devices.

  • The high frequency pulsed power system is widely available for use in high frequency generator applications. We designed and fabricated our own high frequency pulsed power system to obtain very sort pulse width and high peak value and investigated microbe removal characteristics using it. This paper introduces a simple high voltage high frequency pulsed power system for removing various bacteria caused by dirty water. This system include power supply circuit, switching MOSFET, and flyback converter. We can also control the switching using a PIC one chip microprocessor. As a result, we can obtain good removing characteristics of various bacteria by adjusting the charging voltage, the pulse repetition rate and the electrical field inducing time.

  • A new three-level push-pull type quantum series resonant rectifier for the power factor correction is proposed. The proposed single phase rectifier enables a zero-current switching operation of all the power devices allowing the circuit to operate at high switching frequencies and high power levels. With the proposed control technique, an unity power factor and greatly reduced line current harmonics can be obtained.

  • The pulsed Nd:YAG laser is the most commonly used type of solid-state laser in many fields. In material processing and medical treatment, the power density control of a laser beam Considered to be significant, which depends on the flashlamp current pulse width and pulse repetition rate. For general laser power supply to control the laser power density, the secondary of the power transformer is connected to the rectifier and filter capacitor.   • In this paper, a 20W class multi-output QR flyback converter for auxiliary power supply was designed to stabilize 4 output voltages, and the efficiency and load characteristics were compared and analyzed. It was checked if each output affects other output characteristics through experiment. As a result, the experimental circuit reached a high efficiency of 82.5% or more at a load power of over 20W, and the maximum power loss was 2.6W. Consequently, it was confirmed that all of 4 output voltages of the multi-output QR flyback converter constructed in this paper were stabilized within 0.5% in full-load range, and each output was independently controlled in an electrically isolated state.

  • 본 논문에서는 신경회로망을 이용한 스위치드 릴럭턴스 전동기(Switched Reluctance Motor, SRM)의 간편한 순시토크 추정기법과 스위칭 각 제어에 관해 연구하였다. 간단한 구조와 높은 효율 등의 많은 장점을 가지고 있는 SRM은 부하토크와 회전속도에 따라 운전특성이 달라지므로 최적운전을 위해서는 스위칭 각 제어가 필수적이다. 이러한 스위칭 각은 고정자 및 회전자 극호각, 토크 및 속도 능의 여러 변수들에 따라 달라지기 때문에 적정 스위칭 시점을 결정하는데 있어서 어려움이 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 부하토크 및 회전속도에 따라 효율이 가장 높은 적정 스위칭 각을 실험을 통해 선정한 후 신경회로망(Neural Network, NN)을 이용하여 전동기 제어에 적용하는 방안에 관해 고찰하였다. 또한 스위칭 각 제어에 있어서 필수적인 순시토크의 추정에 있어서도 신경회로망을 이용하여 인덕턴스의 비선형적인 특성이 고려되도록 하였다. 구현된 스위칭 각 제어기를 실제 시스템에 적용하였으며, 고효율 측면에서 선정된 스위칭 각 제어기의 동특성을 확인함으로써 스위칭 각 제어기의 적합성을 검증하였다.

  • SRM의 구동에 있어 전류정격은 스위칭 소자의 정격과 직결되고 경제적인 측면에서 적은 정격전류 스위칭 소자를 이용하여 구동하기 위해서는 스위칭 소자의 병력운전이 필수적이다. 스위칭 소자의 병렬 운전시 스위칭 소자의 전류분담을 균일하기 위해서 제조업체의 기술자료를 중심으로 많은 연구가 이루어졌으나, 아직도 실용화하기 위해서는 많은 문제를 앉고 있다. 스위칭 소자의 병력운전은 스위치의 특성 즉, 전류에 대한 상이한 포화전압이 그 근본적인 원인이 되고 있다. 이를 보상하기 위해서 스위칭 소자에 직렬로 적당한 저항값을 삽입하는 방법이 있지만 이 방법은 근본적인 대책이 될 수 없다. 본 논문에서는 스위칭 소자의 포화전압과 같은 파라메터가 전류분담에 영향을 미치지 않는 새로운 병렬운전기법인 상권선 병력운전기법 제안하였다.

Single-Phase Improved Auxiliary Resonant Snubber Inverter that Reduces the Auxiliary Current and THD

  • An LC filter is required to reduce the output current ripple in the auxiliary resonant snubber inverter (ARSI) for high-performance applications. However, if the traditional control method is used in the ARSI with LC filter, then unnecessary current flows in the auxiliary circuit. In addressing this problem, a novel load-adaptive control that fully uses the filter inductor current ripple to realize the soft-switching of the main switches is proposed. Compared with the traditional control implemented in the ARSI with LC filter, the proposed control can reduce the required auxiliary current, contributing to higher efficiency and DC-link voltage utilization. In this study, the detailed circuit operation in the light load mode (LLM) and the heavy load mode (HLM) considering the inductor current ripple is described. The characteristics of the improved ARSI are expressed mathematically. A prototype with 200 kHz switching frequency, 80 V DC voltage, and 8 A maximum output current was developed to verify the effectiveness of the improved ARSI. The proposed ARSI was found to successfully operate in the LLM and HLM, achieving zero-voltage switching (ZVS) of the main switches and zero-current switching (ZCS) of the auxiliary switches from zero load to full load. The DC-link voltage utilization of the proposed control is 0.758, which is 0.022 higher than that of the traditional control. The peak efficiency is 91.75% at 8 A output current for the proposed control, higher than 89.73% for the traditional control. Meanwhile, the carrier harmonics is reduced from -44 dB to -66 dB through the addition of the LC filter.
