  • The power system has to maintain its synchronism from transient disturbances and oscillations. To achieve this, the static var compensator(SVC), which is a flexible AC transmission system(FACTS), is applied to the power system. SVC using an advanced control algorithm improves the stability of power system. This paper is a study on design of SVC to improve harmonics and power factor of power plant. The proposed SVC analyzes harmonics, voltage drop and reactive power in real time. On the basis of the analysis of the data, the SVC using a switching control algorithm decreases harmonic signals and increases the power factor. The experimental results show that the proposed SVC enhances the stability of power system.

  • This paper presents a sensorless vector control algorithm of closed loop Gopinath flux observer to enhance the robustness at low speed by switching P/PI mode. Closed loop Gopinath flux observer has the problem in sensorless vector control of induction motor at low speed. This paper solves the problem using the characteristic function of closed loop Gopinath flux observer. P mode shows better performance than PI mode under the cut-off frequency of observer. But P mode always has a flux error due to DC offset, so this paper combines P mode and PI mode. This algorithm shows good performance over wide speed range. The performance has been confirmed through computer simulations using MATLAB SIMULINK and experiments.

  • Active Power Filters(APF) have been developed for several years to solve the harmonics disturbance problems on power system networks. This paper studies observer based digital algorithm and PWM technique for three phase current source APF by simulation. Both switching or outside white noises affect seriously at control signal for APF control system. Hence observer algorithm to reduce noises is used. A technique of generation gating patterns for the CSI topologies based on carrier PWM techniques is applied. The requirements imposed on gating signals are satisified by the appropriate combination of single phase switching patterns and short pulse generator.

  • Recent works have validated the possibility of reducing the energy consumption in wireless heterogeneous networks, achieved by switching on/off some base stations (BSs) dynamically. In this paper, to realize energy conservation, the discrete time Markov Decision Process (DTMDP) is developed to match up the BS switching operations with the traffic load variations. Then, an asynchronous decision-making algorithm, which is based on the Bellman equation and the on/off priorities of the BSs, is firstly put forward and proved to be optimal in this paper. Through reducing the state and action space during one decision, the proposed asynchronous algorithm can avoid the "curse of dimensionality" occurred in DTMDP frequently. Finally, numerical simulations are conducted to validate the effectiveness and advantages of the proposed asynchronous on/off strategies.

  • This paper considers a scheduling algorithm for high-speed routers, where the router has an N x N port input-queued switch and the input queues are composed of N VOQ(Virtual Output Queue)s at each input port. The major concern of the paper is on the scheduling mechanism for the router. The paper discusses the preferred levels of the performance measures and then develope a non-linear mixed integer programming. Additionally, the paper suggests a heuristic scheduling algorithm for efficient and effective switching.

  • This paper presents a technique to enhance TDAC in the AC-3 algorithm. To reduce block boundary noise without decreasing the performance of transform coding, new special window adopted. They improves the defect of the AC-3 algorithm that could not properly cancel aliasing in the tansient period. In addition, a fast MDCT calculation algorithm based on a fast Fourier Transform, is adopted.

  • In this paper, we present a logic synthesis algorithm for low powr design fo combinational circuits. The proposed algorithm reduces power dissipation by eliminating unnecessary signal transitions. The proposed algorithm restructures a given circuit by using a kernel as prediction logic in a precomputation-based scheme such that switching activity of circuit can be minimized. Experimental results show that the system is efficient for low power design of combinational circuits.

  • The sorting algorithms have been developed to take advantage of distributed computers. But the speedup of parallel sorting algorithms decrease rapidly with increased number of processors due to parallel processing overhead such as context switching time and inter-processor communication cost. In this paper, we propose a parallel sorting method which provides linear speedup of an optimal serial algorithm for a system with a large number of processors. This algorithm may even provide superlinear speedup for a practical system. The algorithm takes advantage of an interconnection network properties and its protocol.

  • Optical packet switching (OPS) is being considered as one of the switching technologies for a future optical internet. For contention resolution in an optical packet switching (OPS) system, the wavelength dimension is generally used in combination with a fiber delay line (FDL) buffer. In this article, we propose a method to reduce the number of tunable wavelength converters (TWCs) by sharing TWCs for a cost-effective design of an asynchronous OPS system with a shared or an output FDL buffer. Asynchronous and variable-length packets are considered in the OPS system design. To investigate the number of TWCs needed for the OPS system, an algorithm is proposed, which searches for an available TWC and an unused internal wavelength, as well as an outgoing channel. This algorithm is applied to an OPS system with a shared or an output FDL buffer. Also, the number of internal wavelengths (i.e., the conversion range of the TWC) needed for an asynchronous OPS system is presented for cost reduction of the OPS system.
