Effect of Holding Period of Cutting on Sprouts Quality and Sweet Potato Growth

  • It is important to accelerate rooting and establishment of seedlings after transplanting for higher dry matter production and tuber yield in sweet potato cultivation. Therefore, this study was conducted to obtain some information about the effects of vine-cutting holding on rooting and plant growth after transplanting. Vines were cut 20-25cm long and stored for 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9 days in a shade room at 20$\pm$0.5$^{\circ}C$, RH 68$\pm$,/TEX>1%. Peroxidase activity in the vine cuttings increased as the holding period increased and the highest catalase activity was detected in the 5-day holding. Length of main vine, number of branches and nodes on main vine also increased in the 5-day holding. There was little difference in the diameter of main vine among the various holding periods. The data obtained indicate that transplanting of vine cuttings after 5-day holding could promote rooting and vine growth.

고구마 덩굴처리기 개발 (Development of a Vine Crusher for Harvesting Sweet Potato)

  • This study was carried out to develop a vine crusher for harvesting sweet potato. The experimental two-row vine crusher attachable to agricultural tractor composed of vine crushing part with frail type vine crushing blades and vine lifting blades, power transmission part with chain and gear transmission mechanism, crushing height control part with two control wheels and manual levers, and implement frames, was designed and fabricated. And this vine crushing performance was also analyzed. From vine crushing tests, backward travel direction (i.e., rotational direction of the vine crushing blades) showed better vine crushing performance than forward travel direction. Crushing ratio of remained vine was increased, and length of remained vine and length of crushed vine were decreased as working speed was decreased and rotational speed of vine crushing blades was increased. At a working speed of 0.27 m/s and rotational speed of vine crushing blades of 800 rpm, crushing ratio of remained vine was 98%, length of remained vine was 104 mm, and length of crushed vine was 327 mm. But, when crushing vine on irregular ridges, vines and mulching vinyl were wound in the vine crushing part. Therefore, change of location of power transmission chain mechanism, and an automatic control device for controlling crushing height were needed.

Development of sweet potato double cropping system in the southern island area of Korea

  • In Korea, the average air temperature has been elevated twice faster than the average global warming. And the climate warming is characterized by the smaller rise of air temperature in summer and the greater rise of air temperature in spring and winter. Therefore, the number of frost-free days to determine the cultivation ability of crops has increased by more than 15 days in 10 years according to climate warming. This climate warming trend has extended and is projected to extend not only the sweet potato growing season but also the sweet potato early cultivating area to higher altitude and latitude region. This study was carried out to evaluate the possibility of sweet potato double cropping in the southern island area of Korea by assessing the growth and yield performance of sweet potato cultivated at extremely-early and -late time. We had performed at Yokji Island Yokji Island($E128^{\circ}$ 18' $N34^{\circ}$ 36'), a representative specified complex area of sweet potato cultivation in southern Korea. As the test varieties, the major cultivars of the this region, Shinyulmi and early hypertrophic cultivars, Dahomi were used. The prior cropping were planted with PE film mulching on March 30 and April 10, and harvested after 110 days. So the succeeding cropping were planted without PE film mulching on July 25 and August 5 according to the harvesting time of the prior sweet potato and harvested after 120 days. As a control, it was harvested on September 15, 120 days after planted on May 15. Each experimental plot had an area of 12 square meters consisting of 4 beds, and was planted one at a time at intervals of 25cm. We had investigated growth characteristics - main vine length, node number, branch number, total vine yield, and tuberous root characteristics - tuberous root number, average weight, starch value, and etc. After harvesting, we analyzed the economic effects by examining the postharvest quantity, the input labor, the management cost, and the income. The total yield of marketable products in prior and succeeding cropping was 46~70% higher than that of control. The average unit price of sweet potato was 36% higher than the conventional culture, and the gross income increased by 98%, but the operating cost increased by 83%, and the farm income increased by 103%. There are considerations such as the difficulty of enlargement of cultivation area due to lack of labor in limited space and the need for watering measures due to spring drought. However, if the area of application for sweet potatoes double system is increased by 10%, it can be used as a new cropping system.

고구마 품종간 이면접목이 생육과 수량에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Reciprocal Grafting on Growth and Yield of Sweet potato)

  • Source와 sink의 상대적 크기가 다른 고구마 품종간 이면접목을 통하여 생육에 미치는 고구마의 source와 sink의 상호관계를 분석함으로써, 고구마의 품종육성 및 재배법개선에 필요한 기초자료를 얻고자 수행한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1 만장, 괴근수는 접목에 의하여 감소되었으며, 접목조합에 따라서 차이가 있었다. 2. 지상부의 생육은 접수, 지하부의 생육은 대목의 영향을 많이 받았다 3. 주만장과 괴근수에 대한 접목효과, 접수와 대목의 효과와 이들 간의 상호작용은 모두 유의성이 있었다. 4. 상저비율은 보통삽식>자가접목>이면접목 순으로 높았다.

고구마 만기재배에서 생육 및 수량에 미치는 삽수크기 및 삽식깊이의 영향 (Effects of Cutting Size and Planting Depth on Growth and Yield in Late-Cultivation of Sweet Potato)

  • 고구마 만기재배를 위하여 '진홍미'를 공시하여 생육 및 수량에 미치는 삽수크기 및 삽식깊이의 영향을 조사하였다. 삽수크기에 따라 삽식 30일 후 줄기신장, 마디수 및 생체중 등은 유의한 차이를 보였으나, 120일 후에는 10cm와 30cm 삽수 간에서만 차이를 보였다. 삽식깊이에 따라 삽식 30일 후 초기 생육은 2마디 깊이 삽식에서 가장 양호하였고, 4마디 깊이 삽식에서 오히려 늦어지는 경향을 보였다. 그러나 120일 후 지상부 생육은 유의한 차이를 보이지 않았다. 삽수 크기가 클수록 주당 총저수와 주당 총저중, 상저비율이 증가하였으며, 식물체당 괴근수 및 괴근중, 10a당 수량 등은 10cm 삽수에서 20~30cm 삽수보다 유의하게 감소하였다. 또한 삽식깊이가 깊을수록 식물체당 괴근수는 증가한 반면, 평균 괴근중은 감소하였고, 10a당 수량은 3마디 삽식에서 기장 높았다. 띠라서 고구마 만기재배에서 생육 및 수량을 증대시키기 위해서는 삽수크기는 20cm 이상, 삽식깊이는 2~3마디로 재배하는 것이 좋을 것으로 생각된다.

담금원료에 따른 전통식 고추장의 숙성 중 이화학적 특성 변화 (Physicochemical Characteristics of Traditional Kochujang Prepared with Various Raw Materials)

  • 전통식 고추장의 품질개선과 담금방법을 표준화하여 산업화하기 위하여 담금원료를 달리한 고추장을 90일간 숙성시키면서 이화학적 특성의 변화를 조사하였다. 고추장의 환원당은 숙성 60일경까지 증가하였으며, 엿기름 첨가 고추장에서 높았다. 에탄올은 숙성 45일 이후 증가하였으며 구기자, 자색고구마, 엿기름 첨가 고추장 순으로 높았다. 아미노태질소는 $45{\sim}60$일경까지 증가하여 $0.20{\sim}0.24%$에 달했고, 암모니아태 질소는 숙성중 불규칙한 증감을 보였으며, 이들은 간장과 구기자 첨가 고추장에서 많았다. 고추장의 수분활성도는 자색고구마 첨가 고추장에서 높았고, 숙성 중에는 다소 낮아졌다. 점조성은 숙성중기까지 감소하나 이후 증가하였고, 자색고구마와 구기자 첨가 고추장이 상당히 높았다. 고추장의 색도는 숙성 중 점차 낮아지는 경향이었으며 L, a, b값 모두 자색고구마 첨가 고추장에서 낮았다. 고추장의 관능은 마늘과 엿기름 첨가 고추장이 자색고구마 첨가 고추장에 비하여 맛이나 색에서 우수하여 전체적으로 양호하였다.

Ensiled and Dry Cassava Leaves, and Sweet Potato Vines as a Protein Source in Diets for Growing Vietnamese Large White×Mong Cai Pigs

  • The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effects of replacing 70% of the protein from fish meal by protein from ensiled or dry cassava leaves and sweet potato vines on the performance and carcass characters of growing F1 (Large White${\times}$Mong Cai) pigs in Central Vietnam. Twenty-five crossbred pigs (Large White${\times}$Mong Cai) with an initial weight of 19.7 kg (SD = 0.84) were allocated randomly to five treatment groups with 5 animals per group (3 males and 2 females). Pigs were kept individually in pens ($2.0{\times}0.8\;m$) and fed one of five diets over 90 days. The control diet was formulated with fish meal (FM) as the protein source while the other four diets were formulated by replacing 70% of fish meal protein by protein from ensiled cassava leaves (ECL), dry cassava leaves (DCL), dry sweet potato vines (DSPV) or ensiled sweet potato vines (ESPV). Animals were fed their diets at 4% of BW. Results showed that final BW, ADG, DMI and feed conversion ratio (FCR) among the experimental treatments were not significantly different (p>0.05). ECL or DCL and ESPV reduced feed cost per unit gain by 8-17.5% compared to the fish meal diet. There were no significant differences in carcass characters among the diets (p>0.05). Lean meat percentages and protein deposition ranged 41.5-45.8% and 40.2-52.9 g/d, respectively. Using ensiled or dry cassava leaves and sweet potato vine can replace at least 70% of the protein from fish meal (or 35% of total diet CP) without significant effects on performance and carcass traits of growing (20-65 kg) pigs. Including cassava leaves and sweet potato vines could improve feed cost and therefore has economic benefits.

LED가 고구마 바이러스 무병묘의 기내 생장에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Light-emitting Diodes on In Vitro Growth of Virus-free Sweet Potato Plantlets)

  • 고구마 바이러스 무병주의 기내 소식물체 생장에 미치는 LED의 영향을 조사하기 위하여, '맛나미', '신천미', '연황미'의 소식물체에서 10mm 크기의 마디를 잘라 $0.2mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ BA를 첨가한 MS배지에 배양하였다. 광질은 형광등을 대조구로 하여, 적색(660nm), 청색(460nm), 백색, 적:청(8:2), 적:청(7:3) LED를 20cm 거리에서 $150{\pm}5{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$ 광합성유효광량자속(PPF)을 유지하였으며, 일장은 16/8(day/night)시간, 배양온도는 $25^{\circ}C$로 조절하였다. LED 광질에 대한 품종간 반응은 적색 LED에서 같은 방법으로 10품종의 마디배양을 하여 소식물체 생장을 조사하였다. 배양 3주 후에 줄기신장은 적색 LED에서 형광등보다 유의하게 증가하였으며, 청색광에서 가장 낮았다. 줄기두께는 적:청(7:3)과 백색 LED에서 증가하였다. 생체중 및 건물중도 적색광에서 가장 높았다. 또한 적색 LED에서 신초생육은 유의한 품종간 차이를 보였다. 줄기길이, 생체중 및 건물중 등은 '신천미', '맛나미', '신황미' 등에서 컸다. 따라서 LED 광원을 이용한 고구마 마디배양은 적색 LED에서 3주간 배양하여 5cm 이상 키운 소식물체를 토양이식하는 것이 대조구인 형광등보다 배양기간을 1주 이상 단축할 수 있었다.

고구마 무병묘의 기내 증식에 미치는 생장조절물질, Sucrose, 최소생장 보존의 영향 (Effect of Growth Regulator, Sucrose, and Minimal-growth Conservation on In Vitro Propagation of Virus-free Sweet Potato Plantlets)

  • 고구마 바이러스 무병묘의 기내급속증식을 위한 적정 생장 조절물질 및 sucrose 농도, 최소생장 기내보존(15℃)에 미치는 광의 영향과 생존율 및 기내생장 특성 등을 조사하였다. 고구마 무병묘의 마디배양은 0.2 mg·L-1 BA 첨가배지에서 줄기신장, 줄기직경, 잎수, 뿌리수, 생체중 및 건물중 등이 가장 양호하였다. 배양부위 및 배지물리성에 따른 적정 sucrose 농도는 마디배양은 5% sucrose를 첨가한 고체배지에서, 정단배양은 3% sucrose를 첨가한 액체배지에서 줄기두께, 잎수, 뿌리수, 뿌리길이, 생체중 및 건물중 등의 생육에 가장 효과적이었다. 15℃ 저온항온기에서 고구마 무병묘의 최소생장 기내보존은 암상태에서는 3개월 내에 모두 고사하였으나, 적색:청색(7:3) 혼합 LED (150±5 μmol·m-2·s-1 PPFD)에서는 5개월까지 100% 생존하였다. 따라서 고구마 무병묘의 최소생장 기내보존에는 광이 필요하며, 샬레에 밀식(10 개체/샬레)할 경우, 좁은 공간에서 대량보존이 가능하였다.
