Purpose: This research examines the elements that affect Chinese tourists' trip experiences and behaviors in Japan and South Korea, focusing on destination image, digital engagement, and sustainability practices awareness. Research design, data and methodology: Data were collected from 414 Chinese tourists through an online survey and analyzed conduct confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling. Findings indicate a positive destination image significantly influences revisit intention but not travel satisfaction. Travel satisfaction positively affects revisit intention, while digital engagement and sustainability practices awareness both enhance travel satisfaction. Results: The results highlight the importance of leveraging digital engagement and promoting sustainability practices to boost satisfaction and repeat visits. Conclusions: The study provides practical insights for tourism stakeholders to develop targeted strategies, emphasizing customer service, sustainable practices.
Purpose: The importance of sustainability in the supply chain has steadily risen in recent decades as a result of the growing awareness on the social issues. The purpose of this research is to examine the relationship between social sustainability practices and performance outcomes, as well as explore the mediating role of supply chain integration on that relationship. Research design, data and methodology: PLS-SEM model is developed to identify the impacts of sustainability on performance outcomes and the mediating role of supply chain integration. We received 285 responses from medium and large companies located in Vietnam, and after filtering, 206 responses were used for further analysis. Results: Our findings showed that sustainability impacts significantly on integration and performance in the supply chain. Moreover, the result indicates that supplier integration and internal integration mediate the relationship between social sustainability practices and supply chain performance, while customer integration mediation role was not found significant at all. Conclusions: Our results prove that social sustainability practices can link all the stakeholders and enhance collaboration. To maintain sustainable development, firms should embrace values of sustainability to improve the well-being, working condition, and healthcare of their employees as well as the advancement of local society.
Purpose: The purposes of the study were to evaluate dietitian's practices for sustainability management and identify barriers of sustainability management at school foodservice. Methods: A total of 220 dietitians working in Daejeon and Chungnam area were surveyed. 187 responses were analyzed for the study. Data were analyzed using SPSS Windows. Results: The respondents were 36% in their 20 s, 38% in their 30 s, 39.6% in elementary schools, 33.7% in middle schools and 26.4% in high schools. Among dietitian's practices for sustainability management, the item with the highest self-evaluation was purchase eco-friendly food (3.75). The category with the highest score was procurement (3.52), by waste management (3.48), production (3.39), menu management (3.36), facility and energy management (3.20), personnel management (3.18), and nutrition education (3.04). In the area of menu management, production management, facility and energy management, nutrition education, and personnel management, scores of elementary school working dietitians were the highest, followed by middle school and high school (p<0.001). The most perceived factor for barriers to sustainability management was principal's indifference to sustainability management (4.10 out of 5 points). ietitian's sustainability management practices and barriers showed a negative correlation. Conclusion: It is necessary to dietitians, employees, and principals' awareness about sustainability management in order to perform effective sustainable management school foodservice.
This study aims to discuss sustainable fashion trends and sustainable design directions that fashion companies are practicing with ESG in the post-corona new normal era. As a research method, this study examined sustainable fashion trends and ESG practices through empirical case studies focusing on each fashion brand's website, including previous research and literature research, using materials such as newspapers and magazines. As for ESG practice plans, they were divided into four categories: technology orientation, design orientation, consumption orientation, and social value pursuit orientation. The sustainable fashion trends were also divided into four categories. First, the trend exhibits cyclical sustainability using pro-environmental materials, such as pro-environmental fibers, recycled fibers, biodegradable fibers. Second, high sensitivity and rare value sustainability were shown using reuse and upcycling. Third, consumption-oriented trends were promoted through slow fashion. Fourth, in order to realize eco-friendly sustainable fashion and ESG as practical ways to pursue social values, there is a trend of integrating sustainability through changes in perception considering people, society, and the environment. Beyond spreading concern about value consumption trends and the environment, it presents a direction for future industries concerning core values with social roles, responsibility, and ethical awareness from various perspectives.
Considering the importance of institutional foodservice in modern dietary life and its influence on the environment, sustainable development in institutional foodservice industry carries great significance. The current study was conducted to investigate dietitians' perceptions of sustainable business-and-industry foodservice and their intentions to perform sustainable practices by applying a mixed methodology. For the quantitative study, an online survey was conducted on 362 dietitians who had worked at a contact foodservice company for more than 1 year. The survey was performed from December 15th, 2011 to January 30th, 2012, and 202 responses were used for the analysis. For the qualitative a study, a focus group interview was conducted during May, 2012 with representative employees of the company. According to the results, dietitians seemed to be unfamiliar with the terms "sustainability" or "sustainable development," whereas they understood related contents and practices. Dietitians' awareness and perceived need in terms of sustainable business-and-industry foodservice were not significantly different across general characteristics. Dietitians seemed to be highly aware of the impacts of business-and-industry foodservice on economy, whereas they appeared to lack understanding of its impacts on society and environment. Cost increase and levy on work in daily operations were considered as main obstacles hampering dietitians' intentions to perform sustainable practices. A total of 88.1% of responding dietitians expected that the meal price at a sustainable business-and-industry foodservice should be higher than the supposed standard price of 4,000 won, with an average reaching 5,270 won. Findings from this study could be used as baseline information for vitalizing sustainable business-and-industry foodservice in Korea.
This study aimed to investigate educational, social, and environmental effects of city parks on the citizens of Anyang, South Korea. The study conducted a questionnaire survey for 30 days on a sample of 1,080 Anyang residents. Parks can be used for different purposes that have benefits like improving the appeal of the local environment as well as promoting health. The respondents highlighted preferred activities including participating in events, learning eco-practices at school, volunteering, and collaborating with the government to enforce environmental quality laws. The identified effects of parks on citizens according to this study were the benefits obtained from parks in the city, the improvement of their quality of life, and enhancing the environmental quality and sustainability. The study also undertook a correlational analysis to establish the relationship between the citizens' experience in the park and the level of satisfaction they demonstrated in the study for continuity purposes. The data collected was divided into 2 data forms entailed in a comparative analysis chart for the city's 12 parks at different times of the day, and a clustered analysis using 4 data clusters grouped based on the profiles of survey responders. The study concluded that the educational, social, and environmental effects of the parks are significant, suggesting an array of programs that can be used to enhance urban redevelopment and showed the role of parks in environmental awareness for cities in the future.
The process of clothing production creates waste and scrap, which creates environmental, economic, and ethical issues. With this in mind the concept of ethical and sustainable fashion is discussed on many platforms as an important and timely topic. Many solutions have been presented on this subject. For the solution of this problem which has been increasing in the fashion and textile industry, the usage of sustainable materials and production methods is needed. There in a 'recyclable material cycle' should be adapted, instead of a 'traditional material cycle'. New methods and techniques should be developed with multi-disciplinary design approaches to produce creative and high value-added products in the name of fashion and sustainability. This is seen as one of the more effective solutions. This study aims to show that production scraps can be transformed into timely clothing designs with samples. The fabric scraps from different brands were turned into unique clothing designs with up to date trends by designer. In the practices completed while following the design process, collage and patchwork techniques were applied depending on the characteristics of the scrap fabric, artistic figures were hand-stitched onto the design. With this study, the scraps that get thrown into dumping grounds and damage the ecosystem can turn into ethical and economic benefits for the manufacturer. How to choose new high value-added products and create an awareness of social responsibility is also shown with examples in this study.
The role of the financial institution to promote corporate sustainability may be reviewed in two angles, as a commercial lender and an investor. As a commercial lender, financial institutions should minimize the legal risks and the political risks. Financial institutions began to recognize environmental risks as legal risks that directly affect their lending practices since the legislation of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act("Superfund") of the U.S.A. The so-called lender liability rule has a detailed guideline where the financial institutions may be exempted from the Superfund Liability. Similar attempts are noticed in the recent EU White Paper on Environmental Liability. In Korea, comprehensive environmental liability laws are yet to be developed. The Soil Environment Preservation Act now includes a far-reaching environmental liability provisions, where the owners and operators as well as receivers of the facility bear responsibility. However, whether the financial institutions may be captured as a potential responsible party is not very clear. Until the relevant legislation is developed and court decisions accumulate, Korean financial institutions are well advised to raise awareness on this issue, to develop environmental policies and to train personnels.
This study was aimed to explore the level of awareness of Korean teachers and college students towards sustainable development(SD) and education for sustainable development(ESD). A survey was conducted to understand the present status of awareness of SD and ESD among 317 college students and 625 teachers in Korea from April to May of 2005. The questionnaire included items asking whether they heard about terms such as sustainability or sustainable development, the source of information on SD, the level of understanding or the urgent task for SD in Korea. It also included questions about experiences in participating in or conducting ESD, the need for ESD, important areas in and the modality for ESD and the willingness to participate in ESD. The results showed that the level of awareness on SD among teachers was low compared to college students, who have a relatively high level of access on SD issues through textbooks and classes in high school. Interestingly, most of college students replied that they never received any ESD, even though they learned SD in class. Both the teacher and student group thought that tile priority of sustainable development should be an 'environment-related' area in the social, economical and environmental perspectives. Most of the students and teachers considered the concept of SD as 'pursuing the balance between environmental protection and economic development.' Some of the teachers recognized the concept of sustainable development in the paradigm of continuous economic development. Both groups responded that the urgent task related to sustainable development is 'environmental protection' and the 'reduction of poverty.' On the other hand, they had experiences in teaching related to natural resources, gender equity, health, human rights, climate changes and other SD issues in class, but not under the name of ESD. They also emphasized 'critical thinking and problem solving & decision-making' in education. Most of the students and teachers responded that it was needed to carry out ESD, and that the way of life for SD would be the priority. It is suggested that various pedagogy and modalities according to various target groups should be considered in providing ESD. It is necessary to use more effective strategies for ESD rather than just introducing the concept of SD. Also, it is needed to review the ESD practices of teachers and improve the quality of education within the scope of ESD.
Urban agriculture, which can be defined as agriculture performed in a city, is suggested as an alternative solution to restore deserted community and expand green land in city area through cultivation activities. In Korea, 'Urban Agriculture Promotion and Support Act' was enforced from May 2012. In addition, in the same year, Seoul Metropolitan Government declared 'the beginning of urban agriculture era,' established municipal ordinance, and increased budget to actively support urban agriculture. As a result, urban agriculture practices have been increasing every year. Yet, the way of developing urban agriculture in a uniform way of expanding green land has led to difficulties of securing proper spaces. Accordingly, 'roof top' spaces have gained attention. This study analyzes rooftop garden, one of the spaces of carrying out urban agriculture, from the publicness perspective. The study selected a case study of a public rooftop garden in Mullae-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, investigated present conditions and usage features of the garden, and explored the conditions to be a 'public' roof top garden. Through theoretical analysis, both physical and non-physical indicators were derived for analysis framework; physical aspects- accessibility, locality, openness, comfortness, and non-physical aspects- subjectivity, cooperativeness, and a sense of community. The results of this study are as follows. First, openness and locality scores were the highest, and comfortness scored the lowest, in ensuring the publicness of Mullae roof top garden. Second, non-physical indicators had stronger effect than physical indicators on rooftop garden users' awareness on publicness and building a garden community. In conclusion, in order to vitalize roof top garden, users should be engaged from the very first planning stage of building a garden, opening hours should not be limited, and more importance should be put on users to subjectively manage the operation of rooftop garden than merely creating a physical environment.
