We are currently living in the era of the wide field cosmological surveys, either spectroscopic such as Dark Energy Spectrograph Instrument or photometric such as the Dark Energy Survey or the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope. By analyzing the distribution of matter clustering, we can use the growth of structure, in combination with measurements of the expansion of the Universe, to understand dark energy or to test different models of gravity. But we also live in the era of multi-tracer or multi-messenger astrophysics. In particular, during the next decades radio surveys will map the matter distribution at higher redshifts. Like in optical surveys, there are radio imaging surveys such as continuum radio surveys such as the ongoing EMU or spectroscopic by measuring the hydrogen 21cm line. However, we can also use intensity mapping as a low resolution spectroscopic technique in which we use the intensity given by the emission from neutral hydrogen from patches of the sky, at different redshifts. By cross-correlating this maps with galaxy catalogues we can improve our constraints on cosmological parameters and to understand better how neutral hydrogen populates different types of galaxies and haloes. Creating realistic mock intensity mapping catalogues is necessary to optimize the future analysis of data. I will present the mock neutral hydrogen catalogues that we are developing, using the Horizon run 4 simulations, to cross-correlate with mock galaxy catalogues from low redshift surveys and I will show the preliminary results from the first mock catalogues.
After every decennial census in the U.S., national surveys such as the Consumer Expenditures surveys are redesigned. The redesigned samples will be multi-stage systematic samples. Many sampling schemes have been proposed for comparison which requires the estimation and variance estiamtion formula. This paper deals with the surveys redesign research which concerns the sample design within the Primary Sampling Unit (PSU). In constructing the estimators it deals with the problem of which first stage inflation factor to use. The expected value of the proposed estimators is also derived.
Time-lapse seismic surveys make repeated seismic surveys at different stages of oil production of a hydrocarbon reservoir to monitor changes in reservoir like fluid saturation. Since the repeatable surface seismic measurements can identify fluid types and map fluid saturations, oil and gas companies can make much more informed decision during not only production but also drilling and development. If time-lapse seismic surveys compare 3D seismic surveys, the time-lapse surveys are widely called as 4D seismic. A meaningful time-lapse interpretation is based on the repeatability of seismic surveys, which mainly depends on improved positioning and reduced noise (if surveys were designed properly through a feasibility study). The time-lapse interpretation can help oil and gas companies to maximize oil and gas recovery. This paper discusses about time-lapse seismic surveys mainly focused on feasibility, repeatability, data processing and interpretation.

This study was conducted to estimate the abundance of narrow-ridged finless porpoises Neophocaena asiaeorientalis in the West Coast of Korea, where they predominantly inhabit. Sighting surveys were conducted in March and November 2021-2022 using vessels and aircraft during the same time periods and along the same survey transects. The aerial surveys yielded significantly more sightings than shipboard surveys, with 8.5-21.6 times the abundance and 6.3-16.9 times the number of observations. The detection rates were 0.000-0.047 and 0.0103 to 0.539 per km2 for shipboard and aerial surveys, respectively. The densities were estimated to be 0.003-0.061 and 0.236-1.898 individuals per km2 in the shipboard and aerial surveys, respectively. The shipboard survey conducted in March 2022 and the aerial survey conducted in November 2021 had the highest detection rates and abundance. In the coastal waters, shipboard sighting surveys face numerous challenges due to factors such as fishing gear, islands, and shallow water depths. In contrast, aerial surveys have the advantage of a shorter survey period and are less affected by weather, fisheries, coastal lines, and other variables. Thus, they are highly suitable for studying narrow-ridged finless porpoises in the coastal areas of the West Sea.

We analyzed data of endangered mammals in the 1st grade zone of the Ecological and Natural Map of Korea that were obtained through 202 field surveys over six years. Five endangered mammal species were identified including otters, long-tailed gorals, martens, leopard cats, and flying squirrels. The total number of habitat traces collected was 918, of which 897 traces (97.7%) were excrement types. The total surveyed distance was 697.7 km and there were 2,184 grids of 250×250 m each. Of these grids, 441 or 20.2% were confirmed as habitats of endangered mammals. Moreover, we analyzed results of repeated surveys in the same area by converting them into individual one-time surveys, accounting for 23.1% of the total area. The flying squirrel showed a low correlation with the frequency of field surveys but showed many habitats in a specific season. Leopard cats and martens were correlated with the frequency of field surveys. Results of analysis confirm that the grid method used for establishing the Ecological and Natural Map is unsuitable for the habitat division of flying squirrels, otters, leopard cats, and martens, and it does not reflect the actual habitats of these four species. Therefore, we propose that the concept of the habitat grid of species must be reevaluated and improved, specifically for endangered mammals.
This study examines implications for the Korean military health survey from literature review on foreign military health surveys. The authors discuss backgrounds, objectives, participants, methods, contents, organizations involved, and cycles of foreign military health surveys from literature review from peer-reviewed journals as well as reports and documents collected from web-sites of governmental organizations. Common and distinguishing characteristics were found from foreign military health surveys. First, the military health surveys have evolved in phases in the direction of reducing health risk factors. Second, the importance of mental health is being emphasized. Third, cooperations and collaborations of governments, universities, and professional agencies are important in order to ensure anonymity and expertise on data collection and analysis. Finally, health surveys are conducted on a regular basis through institutionalization. To monitor and to promote health of military personnel, it is critical for Korea to establish the legal and institutional environment and to recognize the importance as well as the need of military health surveys at the national level.
In Korea, telephone surveys have been used in election forecasting since 1992. In some elections, predictions were excellent, but in some elections, the predictions based on telephone surveys were not good. So, exit polls have been used along with the telephone surveys in predicting election outcomes since 2001 by the major broadcasting networks. Though telephone surveys, in general, have been less accurate than exit polls in election forecasting from 2000 to 2003, they were more accurate in the 2004 General Election than the exit polls. All predictions on the winners by the telephone surveys turned out to be accurate. But such success has not persisted. In the 2008 General Election, the telephone surveys was less accurate than the exit polls and actually its accuracy fell clown to the level of the 2000 General Election. This paper tried to find out. the factors responsible for the fluctuation of the accuracy of telephone polls.
Objectives The purpose of this study is to investigate whether Korean oriental pediatrics hospitals are using their feedback surveys to improve their medical conditions. Methods We selected 24 oriental medicine university hospitals and sent surveys to investigate. 15 of those surveys were analyzed. Results The results were classified as follows; Only 9 of university hospital said that they are currently using their feedback surveys to improve their services. Question for asking the purpose of doing their feedback surveys, 58.3% of hospital responded to get some information for diagnosis, 25% of them said to see the progress of treatment of specific disease, and 16.7% answered for using their data to the further studies. The question about the reason why hospital were need to make these feedback surveys, 46.2% of them answered to apply better service, 38.4% of them said to post medical journal. The question for asking what do oriental medical hospitals check from feedback surveys, 40% of them said they check Ryodoraku, 33.3% was pulse diagnostic apparatus, EAV(Electro-puncture According to Voll) was 26.7%. The classification according to purpose of test resulted as follows; information for diagnosis was 48.1%, the progress of a disease was 37.3%. In addition oriental medical test there were blood test, radiological test, brain waves test, Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis(HTMA), ultrasonic test, body composition analysis. Conclusions Further clinical research is necessary for improvement of using the feedback survey effectively.

Self-potential (SP) surveys measure naturally occurring differences in electrical potential in the absence of artificial sources and have been applied to various fields since the first application in mineral explorations. Among various causes of SP occurrences, streaming potential is generated by the flow of groundwater, and makes SP surveys suitable for the exploration of groundwater table fluctuation, fractures, sinkholes and landslide occurrences. Recently, there has been many studies that applied SP surveys to monitor water leakage through dikes and embankments. In this review paper, we first review the characteristics and theoretical backgrounds of streaming potential in saturated or unsaturated porous media to introduce it in the embankment among various application field. After the review of the background theory, we review the past cases of field SP surveys on dikes and embankments and also the characteristics of field streaming potential data in the surveys. Further, by analyzing past studies of qualitative as well as quantitative interpretation of SP survey data, we show the possibility of quantitative interpretation of streaming potential data obtained on dikes and embankments. Consequently, it is hope that this review paper helps researches on SP surveys on dikes and embankments, and provides basis for interpretation methods of the SP data to identify leaked area and further leakage rate (or permeability).

Recently, the frequent occurrence of ground subsidence in urban areas has caused increasing anxiety in residents and incurred significant social costs. Among the causes of ground subsidence, the rupture of old water and sewer pipes not only halts the operation of the buried pipes, but also leads to ground and water pollution problems. However, because most pipes are buried after construction and cannot be seen with the naked eye, the importance of maintenance has underestimated compared to other structures. In recent years, integrated physical exploration has been applied to the maintenance of underground pipes and structures. Currently, to investigate the internal conditions and vulnerable portions of the ground, consolidated physical surveys are executed. Consolidated physical surveys are analysis techniques that obtain various material data and add existing data using multiple physical surveys. Generally, in geotechnical engineering, consolidated physical surveys including electrical and surface wave surveys are adopted. However, it is difficult to investigate time-based changes in under ground using these surveys. In contrast, surveys using cosmic-ray muons have been used to scan the inner parts of nuclear reactors with penetration technology. Surveys using muons enable real-time observation without the influence of vibration or electricity. Such surveys have great potential for available technology because of their ability to investigate density distributions without requiring as much labor. In this paper, survey technologies using cosmic ray muons are introduced, and the possibilities of applying such technologies as new physical survey technologies for underground structures are suggested.
