Influence Appraisal for Labor Statistics after Introducing a New Survey Method (노동부 통계자료에 대한 새로운 조사방법의 영향 평가)

  • Based upon the Labor Demand Survey and the Survey on Wage Structure being conducted annually by the Ministry of Labor, we suggest a convenient statistical tool which can analyze and appraise the effect of introducing a new survey method. Since both surveys have in common very similar sampling frames and sampling schemes in structure, one can measure the variability of one survey on the basis of the other. The influence appraisal method adopted here is applied to ratio data between two independent estimates belonging to the identical category by year and has a statistical form of comparing ratio data before introducing a new survey with those after introducing a new survey.

A New Alternative Method for Social Survey: Possibility of Using Mobile Phone Survey Method (대안적 사회여론조사 방법 : 모바일 조사방법의 가능성 검토)

  • Telephone surveys miss, among other people, those who live in homes without telephones, people who are away from home at the time of interview and people who refuse to be interviewed. Recently, mobile phone survey has emerged as “A replacement technology” to the old telephone survey method. Mobile survey enables us to do many things we could not do or could not afford to do before, and reatly enhance the efficiency if the opinion surveys. Very specifically, the mobile survey enables us to control respondent's accessability, interviewer bias and to do incredibly fast and at a affordable costs. The authors analyze the results of mobile-phone local election polls and ELSI bio-technology attitude survey. The authors describe their results, the methods they used, including the use of demographic and propensity weighting to correct for substantial biases in the raw, unweighted data. The results show that mobile survey can predict the election outcomes with approximately equal accuracy to that of the telephone poll after weighting. This paper also cautions readers not to assume that mobile survey can be used with equal success in other elections and emphasizes the need for continuing research to improve mobile survey methods in the future.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a application procedure and survey method for the empirical diagnostic indices system. In order to know the survey method, which has 65 investigation items for 52 indicators, this study not only presented so that the each survey items could be surveyed in at least 1 to 3 steps, but also presented the 4 survey method for each investigation items: preliminary survey, administrative survey, field survey, and interview survey. As a result of applying to 15 sample villages, the period of surveying a village of 100 households was 1.4 days, and it was confirmed that the survey was generally efficient in a short time. As a result of applying the survey system to the sample village, the developed survey system showed the possibility of investigating even the details of rural villages. Therefore, it was judged that it could be used as a basic procedure for a rural village unit survey.

Policies for Improving the Survey of Research and Development in Science and Technology: The Case of Industrial Sector (과학기술연구개발활동조사의 개선방안 -기업부문을 중심으로-)

  • The survey of research and development (R&D) in science and technology (S&T) covers the current status of R&D activities in S&T in Korea, and provides a basis for decision making regarding S&T policy. Continuous improvement of the survey is widely needed to present reliable national basic statistics. Therefore, the purpose of the study is two-fold: to introduce sampling survey method in industrial sector and to make statistical technique to deal with non-response data from industrial sector. To these ends, first, case studies of the United States and Japan are illustrated. A new sampling design for the R&D survey is proposed and implementing stratified random sampling scheme is suggested. Moreover, statistical analysis of the non-response data is dealt with. Based on several screening criteria, we develop a new imputation method suitable for the R&D survey and also provide more detailed implementation plan. Various solutions to a problem arising from non-response item are also presented. Finally, some implications of the results are discussed.

Case History for Safe Diagnosis of Embankment Dike using Composite Analysis of Various Geophysical surveys (물리탐사 결과 복합해석을 통한 방조제 제체 정밀안전진단 사례)

  • To establish the reinforce region and technique through the embankment dike after identifying the region of seawater inflow, we carried out small-loop electromagnetic (EM) survey, electrical resistivity survey and refraction seismic method. We also analyzed the distribution of electrical conductivity in reservoir with depth every two month and monitored water level variations with tidal variation in four observation wells located at seaside and reservoir side in order to analyze the relationship with survey results. From both the cross-correlation between tidal and water level variation at four wells and the distribution of electrical conductivity in reservoir with depth, the major portion of seawater inflow are identified through the embankment dike. From electromagnetic and electrical resistivity survey results, it was found that the seawater inflow were happened through several small regions at seaside and became wider near reservoir side. The 2-D inversion sections of refraction seismic method showed that the pebble-bearing sand layer is spread over the whole region with two to four width. From the this study, small-loop EM, electrical resistivity and refraction seismic surveys accompany with the distribution of electrical conductivity in reservoir with depth and the monitoring results for water level variations are revealed to be effective to identify seawater inflow pathway through embankment dike and to establish the reinforce region and technique through the embankment dike.

Development of a Groundwater Quality Sampling Method for Livestock Excreta Survey (가축분뇨실태조사를 위한 지하수 오염현황조사 지점 선정 방법 개발)

  • The groundwater quality through livestock excreta survey based on "Act of the management and use of livestock excreta" was investigated by selecting sampling sites within 1 km of the farmland without considering hydrogeological units. However, these sites can be affected by various pollution sources such as chemical fertilizers and livestock excretions. Additionally, the effects of pollution sources on groundwater quality in the sites cannot be clearly distinguished from naturally occurring backgrounds. In this study, a method was developed to select the sampling sites for groundwater quality through livestock excreta survey in order to understand the effects of pollution sources especially livestock excreta. First, the concentrations of nitrate within the radius of 200 m, 300 m, 500 m and 750 m, respectively, from the farms regarded as pollution sources in hydrogeological units were compared in 2016-2017. All the nitrate concentrations at 200 - 500 m from the farms exceeded a background concentration, 13.3 mg/L. Those at 750 m and the background concentrations measured by the Ministry of Environment were comparable. Therefore, the appropriate radius was suggested as 500 m for livestock excretions survey. In this study, the areas within 500 m from the farms could be considered under the influence of livestock excretions, while those beyond 500 from the pollution sources as background in hydrogeological units. The developed method was validated by applying it to the sites selected based on both administrative divisions and watersheds for livestock excretion survey. The average densities for the developed method were 0.82 and 0.39 points/km2, respectively, which were considered as appropriate levels according to those of the European Environmental Agency.

  • This study has reviewed the "A survey on the relation between the employees' viewpoint with knowledge management and cultural intelligence among the employees working in Social Security Organization of Ardabil". The present study is functional in terms of objective and the method is descriptive and survey. This has asked the others' ideas and viewpoints concerning a specific subject and has analyzed them. About the nature and the method used, the present research is of correlation research. The population applied in this research includes all employees working in Social Security Organization of Ardabil consisting of 400. The method used for sampling is simple random sampling. To collect the information in the first step of the research the library method has been used. In this research the data has been collected through standard questionnaires. Then, via descriptive and inferential statistics the research data has been characterized and regarding the spatial scaling of the measurement to test the hypothesis the, correlation analysis of Pearson has been used and also to specify the reliability of the questionnaire the Chronbach's Alpha has been taken in use and the SPSS software to analyze the data also. The findings resulted from the study showed that there is a significant relation between the factors concerning employees' efficiency with knowledge management and the cultural intelligence and all hypotheses was confirmed.

Survey of Corrosion Cost in China and Preventive Strategies

  • A national consultative project entitled "corrosion cost survey in China and preventive strategies" was funded by the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1998. Soon afterwards, an expert group was organized jointly by the Institute of Metal Research, CAS and Chinese Society of Corrosion and Protection. The report on corrosion cost survey in China was published in 2003. According to this report the overall annual corrosion cost in China estimated by the Uhlig Method and Hoar Method at 1997-2001 was found to be 200.7 billion Yuan RMB and 228.8 billion Yuan RMB respectively, which is equivalent to 2% of the gross national product of China. However the total cost of corrosion including the direct and indirect cost was estimated to be more than 500 billion Yuan RMB per year in China. Among them, corrosion cost of infrastructure ranked in first comparing with other sectors. Although corrosion costs in some sectors, such as electric power, petrochemical, oil pipeline and railway in China has reduced in the past years, significant losses are still being encountered in most sectors of industries and cost-effective methods have not always been implemented. Both successful and unsuccessful cases in corrosion control and corrosion management were collected. As the investment in capital construction continues increasing rapidly in China, the maintenance and life extension of the infrastructures will become a big issue. Applying Propensity Score Adjustment on Election Web Surveys (인터넷 선거조사에서 성향가중모형 적용사례)

  • This study suggests the applicability of web surveys regarding elections in order to contact a great number of young people. The propensity weighting model was estimated using the demographic variables and the covariate variables collected during the 2007 presidential election surveys. In order to adjust the internet survey to the telephone survey, we used the propensity score method. Propensity score weighting made the internet survey results closer to the telephone survey results. This shows that an internet survey with propensity weighting model is a potential alternative survey method in the prediction of elections.
