계면활성제를 이용한 토양내 유기오염물 (NAPL) 정화 방법의 연구

  • Column experiments were peformed to evaluate the efficiency of surfactant flushing for remediation of non-aqueous phase liquid (NAPL) in the soil under controlled conditions. In column experiment less than 0.1 % of the original mass of tetrachloroethylene (PCE), remained in the column after 15 pore volumes of 1% sorbitan monooleate solution were passed through columns. To determine the influence of soil parameters that may affect the remediation process, column tests were repeated with different values of grain size, application rate, surfactant type, surfactant concentration, and solution viscosity (polymer mixed with surfactant). Experimental works suggest that surfactant flushing has a great potential to rapidly remove mass from NAPL in the soil.

Synthesis, interfacial properties, and antimicrobial activity of a new cationic gemini surfactant

  • Tetramethylene-1,4-bis(N,N-dodecylammonium bromide), cationic gemini surfactant, (12-4-12) was first synthesized with an one-step and shortened procedure and its interfacial and antimicrobial properties were compared with a conventional single-chain cationic surfactant, cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB). The interfacial and thermodynamic properties of both surfactants reveal that critical micelle concentration (CMC) of this novel synthetic cationic dimeric surfactant is lower than that of cationic monomeric surfactant at almost 15 times of its magnitude, which is due to the increase in hydrophobicity of the surfactant molecules by having dual hydrocarbon chains. In comparison with CTAB, the produced compound 12-4-12 yields much better interfacial and thermodynamic properties. The antimicrobial activities of the synthesized gemini surfactant were tested against eight strains of bacteria, as well as two strains of fungi. The results showed that both 12-4-12 compound and CTAB exhibited higher inhibitory effects on the growth of Gram-positive bacteria and fungi than that of Gram-negative bacteria. The minimum inhibitory concentrations in molar of 12-4-12 against all tested Gram-negative bacteria were lower than those of CTAB, which is hypothetically due to the lower HLB together with smaller CMC values of our gemini surfactant.

Removal study of As (V), Pb (II), and Cd (II) metal ions from aqueous solution by emulsion liquid membrane

  • Emulsion Liquid Membrane (ELM) is a prominent technique for the separation of heavy metal ions from wastewater due to the fast extraction and is a single-stage operation of stripping-extraction. The selection of the components (Surfactant and Carrier) of ELM is a very significant step for its preparation. In the ELM technique, the primary water- in-oil (W/O) emulsion is emulsified in water to produce water-in-oil-in-water (W/O/W) emulsion. The water in oil emulsion was prepared by mixing the membrane phase and internal phase. To prepare the membrane phase, the extractant D2EHPA (di-2-ethylhexylphosphoric acid) was used as a mobile carrier, Span-80 as a surfactant, and Paraffin as a diluent. Moreover, the internal (receiving) phase was prepared by dissolving sulphuric acid in water. Di-(2- ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid such as surfactant concentration, carrier concentration, sulphuric acid concentration in the receiving (internal) phase, agitation time (emulsion phase and feed phase), the volume ratio of the membrane phase to the receiving phase, the volume ratio of the external feed phase to the primary water-in-oil emulsion and pH of feed were studied on the percentage extraction of metal ions at 20℃. The results show that it is possible to remove 78% for As(V), 98% for Cd(II), and 99% for Pb(II). Sorbitan Laurate 계면활성제 합성 및 계면 특성에 관한 연구 (Synthesis and Characterization of Interfacial Properties of Sorbitan Laurate Surfactant)

  • 합성한 sorbitan laurate SP 20의 CMC 값은 약 $7.216{\times}10^{-4}mol/L$로서 옥틸페놀 에톡실레이트 OPE 10에 비하여 약간 크지만, CMC에서의 표면장력은 26.0 mN/m로 OPE 10에 비하여 작았다. 또한 SP 20의 경우에는 OPE 10 계면활성제와 비교하며 공기와 수용액의 계면이 계면활성제 단분자에 의하여 포화되는 데 더 많은 시간이 소요되었다. SP 20 계면활성제 수용액의 접촉각은 계면활성제 농도가 증가함에 따라 감소하였으며, 동일한 계면활성제 농도에서 OPE 10에 비하여 접촉각이 큼을 알 수 있었다. OPE 10과 SP 20 계면활성제 수용액의 거품 반감기는 각각 770, 1268 s로서 SP 20 계면활성제가 OPE 10 계면활성제에 비하여 거품의 안정성이 크며, 이러한 결과는 표면장력 측정 결과와 일치하였다. OPE 10에 비하여 SP 20의 가용화 속도는 매우 낮으며, 이러한 결과는 foam stability, 접촉각 및 CMC 실험 결과와 일치하였다. OPE 10과 SP 20 시스템의 평형에서의 계면장력은 각각 0.659, 0.742 mN/m으로서 비슷한 값을 나타내었으나, OPE 10의 경우에는 비교적 짧은 시간 내에 계면장력이 평형에 도달하는 것에 비하여 SP 10의 경우에는 계면장력이 평형 값에 도달하는데 약 25 min이 소요되었다.

광 산란방법을 이용한 계면활성제 농도측정 (Measurement of Surfactant Concentration Using Light Scattering Method)

  • 본 연구에서는 미세기포를 산란체로 사용한 편광산란 측정법을 이용하여 수중 계면활성제의 농도를 측정하는 방법을 개발하였다. Mueller 요소 $M_{11}$은 계면활성제의 농도가 0 ppm부터 60 ppm 사이 영역에서 농도와 선형적인 비례관계를 가져 계면활성제 농도를 측정할 수 있는 유용한 파라메터로 사용될 수 있음을 알았다. 이 측정은 산란각이 150도, 소광비가 56.2 조건에서 가장 효과적 이였다. 이 연구 결과를 볼 때, 편광산란 측정법(EPLS)은 강이나 호수에서 수질을 실시간적으로 모니터하는데 있어 충분히 효과적인 수단으로 보인다.

비이온계 계면활성제 수용액이 면직물의 습윤특성에 미치는 영향 (Effect on Nonionic Surfactant Solutions on Wetting and Absorbancy of Cotton Fabrics)

  • Textile materials are frequently in contact with surfactant solutions during their manufacturing or finishing processes as well as cleaning processes in use. Liquid wetting, wicking and absorbency of textile materials, and the liquid properties, surface characteristics and pore geometry of textile materials, and the liquie-solid interactions, In this paper, 10 different nonionic surfactants, including Span 20, Twen 20, 40, 60, 80, 21, 61, 81, 65, 85, were used. The surfactants were characterized by their hydrophile-lipophile-balance (HLB) values, structures, and surface tensions. The 0.1g/dL and 1.0g/dL surfactant solutions, which were both above critical micelle concentration (CMC), were used to see the concentration effects on the wetting and absorbency of cotton fabrics. The wetting behavior and liquid retention properties of hydrophobic cotton fabrics with different nonionic surfactant solutions are reported. The contact angles are greatly decreased and the water retention values are greatly increased by adding most of the surfactants studied into the system. The extents of this effects are influenced by the characteristics of surfactants and its solutions. Hydrophilic surfactants which have low number of carbon atoms or unsaturated hydrophobe structures are more effective in improving the wetting and absorbancy of hydrophobic cotton fabrics. The water retention of hydrophobic cotton fabrics has positive relations with $cos{\theta}$, adhesion tension and work of adhesion. The 1.0g/dL surfactant solutions show similar, but slightly improved wetting and absorbency characteristics of hydrophobic cotton fabrics compared to the 0.1g/dL surfactant solutions.

계면활성제 첨가시 수평 냉각관 외부를 흘러내리는 LiBr수용액의 열 및 물질전달 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Heat and Mass Transfer Characteristics of LiBr-$H_2$O Solution with a Sufactant Flowing over a Cooled Horizontal Tube)

  • Heat and mass transfer characteristics of a surfactant-added LiBr-$H_2O$ solution flowing over a single horizontal tube were examined experimentally. The parameters considered were surfactant (2-ethyl-1-hexanol) concentration, solution temperature at the top of the tube and absorber pressure. Even with an amount of the surfactant below the solubility limit, heat and mass transfer performances were enhanced tremendously. The Nusselt and Sherwood numbers increased by about 70% and 340%, respectively, when 10 ppm of the surfactant was added. However, an excess amount of the surfactant in the solution did not bring a further enhancement. The absorption performance deteriorated when the non-condensable gases were extracted from the system (by a vacuum pump) since the vaporized surfactant was also extracted during the process. Therefore, it is desirable to add a sufficient amount of the surfactant (more than 10 ppm) to maintain high performance of absorption.

시타라빈의 카르나우바왁스 Microsphere의 성질에 미치는 폴리소르베이트 40의 영향 (Effect of Polysorbate 40 on Properties of Cytarabine Carnauba Wax Microspheres)

  • The effect of polysorbate 40, used as a surfactant during the process of manufacture, on the properties of cytarabine microspheres with carnaubu wax was studied. It was revealed that the mean particle size increased in proportion to the concentration of polysorbate 40, and that the dissolution rate of the cytarabine from the microspheres decreased greatly more than the cytarabine powder only, but increased in proportion to the concentration of polysorbate 40 as surfactant.

폐수중 액체막에 의한 페놀의 이동 (Transport of Phenol in Waste Water Through Liquid Surfactant Membrane)

  • The transport of phenol from waste water through the liquid surfactant membrane containing Aliquat 336 as a carrier was analyzed by a theoretical model. Extraction experiments was carried out to investigate the effect of process parameters, such as mixing intensity, concentration of sodium hydroxide in internal aqueous solution, and counter anions, and initial phenol concentration in waste water at $25^{\circ}C$. It was found that transport rate of phenol increased with increasing pH differents. The transport rate of phenol in waste water was influenced by counter anions.

혼합 개면활성제의 개면활성에 관한 연구 (The Surface Activities of Surfactant Mixtures)

  • The changes of surface activities in the aquaous solutions of mixed surfactants composed of linear sodium dodecylbenznesulfoate (LAS), polyoxyethylene nonyl phenylether (PE, EO=10) and polyethylene glycol monolauryl ether (LE, EO=25) have been studied. Addition of nonionic surfactants to LAS reduces the surface tension, especially at the lower concentration than cmc. The interfacial tension of olive oil/LAS was lower than the other surfactant solutions. The removal of triolein from cotton fabrics by nonionic surfactants and mixtures is higher than by LAS. The addition of NaCI to surfactant solutions even though reduces surface tension smaller but enthances oil removal more than that of $CaCl_2$.
