This research is concerned with the enhancement of heat transfer by surfactant added to the aqueous solution of LiBr. Different vertical tubes were tested with and without an additive of normal octyl alcohol. The test tubes are a bare tube, a groove tube, a corrugated tube and a spring-inserted tube. The additive concentration is about 0.08 mass%. The heat transfer coefficient is measured as a function of the film Reynolds number in the range of 20~200. Experiments are carried out at higher cooling water temperature of $35^{\circ}C$to simulate an air cooling condition for several kinds of absorber testing tubes. The experimental results with and without surfactant are compared. The enhancement of heat transfer by Marangoni convection effect which is generated by addition of the surfactant is observed in each test tube. Especially, it is clarified that the tube with an spring-inserted has the enhancement effect.

Recently, there has been considerably interested in the development to new functional gemini type anionic surfactant, sodium bis-n-alkyl sulfonatosuccinate, had been synthesized through the addition reaction of sodium bisulfite to bis-n-alkyl maleate, in which water was azeotropically distilled by adding benzene to the reaction system, gave a good yield. All the surface activities including krafft point, surface tension, emulsion power and foaming were measure and cmc was evaluated in dilute solution. This results showed a lower ability in $27{\sim}30dyne/cm$ than single-chain surfactant with $32{\sim}35dyne/cm$ to surface tension. Also its cmc value much smaller in $(6.5{\sim}10){\times}10^{-4}mca{\ell}/{\ell}$ than single-chain surfactant with $(40{\sim}45){\times}10^{-4}mca{\ell}/{\ell}$ concentration. In foaming ability and foam stability of gemini surfactant had especially a good ability in approximately $100{\sim}150ml$, and in emulsing power they exhibited a good emulsing phase and stability, and Krafft points were $0{\sim}10^{\circ}C$.
Micellar-enhanced ultrafiltration (MEUF) is a surfactant-based separation technique and has been investigated for the removal of heavy metals from wastewater. The performance of heavy metals removal from wastewater through MEUF relies on membrane characteristics, surfactant properties, various operational parameters including operating pressure, surfactant and heavy metal concentration, pH of the solution, temperature, and presence of dissolved solutes and salts. This study presents an overview of literature related to MEUF with respect to the all significant parameters including membranes, surfactants, operating conditions and MEUF hybrid processes. Moreover, this study illustrates that MEUF is an adaptable technique in various applications. Nowadays water contamination caused by heavy metals has become a serious concern around the globe. MEUF is a significant separation technique in wastewater treatment that should be acknowledged, for the reason that removal of heavy metals contamination even at lower concentrations becomes achievable, which is evidently made known in the presented review. Hybrid processes presented the better results as compared to MEUF. Future studies are required to continue the experimental work with various combinations of surfactant and heavy metals, and to investigate for the treatment of concentrated solutions, as well as for real industrial wastewater.
In this study, semibatch emulsion copolymerization of n-BA as adhesive component and MMA as coagulant component were carried out for the stable acrylic polymer latex in aqueous phase for polymer cement using LE-type nonionic surfactant as environmental friendly surfactant. The stable polymer emulsion was obtained with the increases of chain length(n) of this surfactant. The effect on the amount of LE-50 as nonionic surfactant were showed that the concentration of polymer latex were increased by increasing the amount of LE-50, whereas the average particle size were decreased by increasing the amount. The addition of functional monomer in initial reactor charge showed a significant effect on the final polymer concentration and the latex particle size. The single polymerization of each n-BA or MMA showed a very low concentration of polymer latex and very big particle size due to coagulation. In the polymerization composed of mixed monomer with MMA and n-BA, the larger the ratio of MMA to n-BA in the copolymers, the greater the amount of coagulum produced. It was found that a stable copolymers were obtained in the range of 15-35 % of n-BA. Moreover, incorporation of some functional monomers in addition to of main monomers became more stable polymer latex. Through DSC and IR analysis, the final polymer latex was composed by MMA/n-BA/AA/AM with a single Tg depending on the reaction conditions. As a result, the conditions of this acrylic polymerization could also be effectively controlled to get the desired final products.

An experimental study was peformed to measure the viscosity of microencapsulated PCM slurries as the functions of its concentration and temperature, and also influence to its fluid dynamics. For the viscosity measurement, a rotary type viscometer, which was equipped with temperature control system, was adopted. The slurry was mixed with water and Sodium Lauryl Sulphate as a surfactant by which its suspended particles were dispersed well without the segregation of particles during the experiment. The viscosity was increased as the concentration of MicroPCM particle added. The surfactant increased 5% of the viscosity over the working fluid without particles. Experiments were proceeded by changing parameters such as PCM particles'concentration as well as the temperature of working fluid. As a result, a model to the functions of temperature for the working fluid and its particle concentration is proposed. The proposed model, for which its standard deviation shows 0.8068, is agreed well with the reference's data. The pressure drop was measured by U-tube manometer, and then the friction factor was obtained. It was noted that the pressure drop was not influenced by the state of PCM phase, that is solid or liquid in its core materials at their same concentration. On the other hand, it was described that the pressure drop of the slurry was much increased over the working fluid without particles. A friction factor was placed on a straight line in all working fluids of the laminar flow regardless of existing particles as we expected.

In this study, yttrium-doped $SiO_2$ nanoparticles are synthesized using a reverse micelle technique combined with metal alkoxide hydrolysis and condensation. Spherical Y-doped $SiO_2$ nanoparticles with a uniform size distribution are prepared using selfassembly molecules in conjunction with the hydrolysis and condensation of organometallic precursors. The water/surfactant molar ratio influenced the Y-doped $SiO_2$ particles distribution of the core-shell composite particles and the distribution of Y doped $SiO_2$ particles was broadened as the water to surfactant ratio increased. The particle size of Y increase linearly as the $Y(NO_3)_3$ solution concentration increased. The average size of the cluster was found to depend on the micelle size, the nature of the solvent, and the concentration of the reagent. The effects of synthesis parameters, such as the molar ratio of water to surfactant and the molar ratio of water to TEOS, are discussed.

The nanotopography of silicon wafers has emerged as an important factor in the STI process since it affects the post-CMP thickness deviation (OTD) of dielectric films. Ceria slurry with surfactant is widely applied to STI-CMP as it offers high oxide-to-nitride removal selectivity. Aiming to control the nanotopography impact through ceria slurry characteristics, we examhed the effect of surfactant concentration and abrasive size on the nanotopography impact. The ceria slurries for this study were produced with cerium carbonate as the starting material. Four kinds of slurry with different size of abrasives were prepared through a mechanical treatment The averaged abrasive size for each slurry varied from 70 nm to 290 nm. An anionic organic surfactant was added with the concentration from 0 to 0.8 wt %. We prepared commercial 8 inch silicon wafers. Oxide Shu were deposited using the plasma-enhanced tetra-ethyl-ortho-silicate (PETEOS) method, The films on wafers were polished on a Strasbaugh 6EC. Film thickness before and after CMP was measured with a spectroscopic ellipsometer, ES4G (SOPRA). The nanotopogrphy height of the wafer was measured with an optical interferometer, NanoMapper (ADE Phase Shift)
Objectives: Carbon nanotubes are an important new class of technological materials that have numerous novel and useful properties. Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), which is a nanomaterial, is now in mass production because of its excellent mechanical and electrical properties. Although MWCNTs appear to have great industrial and medical potential, there is little information regarding their toxicological effects on researchers and workers who could be exposed to them by inhalation during the handling of MWCNTs. Methods: The generation of an untangled MWCNT aerosol with a consistent concentration without using surfactants that was designed to be tested in in vivo inhalation toxicity testing was attempted. To do this, MWCNTs were dispersed in deionized water without the addition of any surfactant. To facilitate the dispersion of MWCNTs in deionized water, the water was heated to $40^{\circ}C$, $60^{\circ}C$, and $80^{\circ}C$ depending on the sample with ultrasonic sonication. Then the dispersed MWCNTs were atomized to generate the MWCNT aerosol. After aerosolization of the MWCNTs, the shapes of the NTs were examined by transmission electron microscopy. Results: The aerosolized MWCNTs exhibited an untangled shape and the MWCNT generation rate was about 50 $mg/m^3$. Conclusion: Our method provided sufficient concentration and dispersion of MWNCTs to be used for inhalation toxicity testing.
Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), an anionic surfactant, can strongly adsorb at the surface of a carbon paste electrode (CPE) via the hydrophobic interaction. In pH 3.0 $Na_2HPO_4$-citric acid buffer (Mcllvaine buffer) and in the presence of SDS, the cationic indole-3-acetic acid (IAA, $pK_a$ = 4.75) was highly accumulated at the CPE surface through the electrostatic interaction between the negative-charged head group of SDS and cationic IAA, compared with that in the absence of SDS. Hence, the oxidation peak current of IAA increases greatly and the oxidation peak potential shifts towards more negative direction. The experimental parameters, such as pH, varieties of surfactants, concentration of SDS, and scan rate were optimized for IAA determination. The oxidation peak current is proportional to the concentration of IAA over the range from $5\;{\times}\;10^{-8}$ mol/L to $2\;{\times}\;10^{-6}$ mol/L. The detection limit is $2\;{\times}\;10^{-8}$ mol/L after 3 min of accumulation. This new voltammetric method was successfully used to detect IAA in some plant leaves.
Fine silica powders were synthesized via w/o emulsion method using sodium silicate, ammonium sulfate, Triton N-57, and cyclohexane as silica source, precipitating agent, surfactant, and oil phase, respectively. The powders were prepared under a conventional process and an ultrasonic process using the same reactants at room temperature for 1 hr varying the concentration of $Na_2SiO_3$ solution and the mol ratio of $H_2O$/surfactant, respectively. The particle size of the silica powder was reduced with decreasing the concentration of sodium silicate solution and with increasing the mol ratio of $H_2O$/surfactant under with and without ultrasounds. The size of powder with ultrasounds was smaller than that without ultrasounds, which indicates that the application of ultrasound in the synthesis of silica powder is an efficient way to reduce particle size.
