  • We measured the effect of wettability of six MPSs for RGP lens. The used MPSs(multipurpose solutions) were OPTI-SOAK(ALCON), SOLO care hard(CIBA Vision), Total care(ALLERGAN), Simplicity(BOSTON). Wetting and Soaking Sol.(Bausch & Lomb) and Aquas-multi(Saehan). These MPSs keeps hydrophilic property of lens surface and increase the effect of cleaning or increase the effect of preservative effect. To compare with the effect of wettability we followed the way of contact angle measurement which was general way to measure wettability and compared lens which was conducted by each MPS made by different companies. As a control, 0.9% NaCl solution and artificial tears were used. The degree of the effect of wettability was decided by contact angle. It is hydrophilic property nearby $0^{\circ}$ of contact angle and it is closed by hydrophobic property as it increases. The results showed that every lens was nearby hydrophilic property within $25^{\circ}{\sim}36^{\circ}$. Also, it was differed by various factors. The surface tension showed various differences between 19.8 and 31.3(mN/m). In the viscosity, MPSs represented the highest viscosity between $4^{\circ}C$ and $20^{\circ}C$. It was much higher than compared with the viscosity of soft lens MPS. This experiment could be used to grasping the interaction between solutions used to MPS and the natural endowments of lens and to considering the relations of different factors effecting the wettability.

  • Among the various roll-to-roll printing technologies such as gravure, gravure-offset, and reverse offset printing, reverse offset printing has the advantage of fine patterning, with less than 5 ${\mu}m$ line width. However, it involves complex processes, consisting of 1) the coating process, 2) the off process, 3) the patterning process, and 4) the set process of the ink. Each process demands various ink properties, including viscosity, surface tension, stickiness, and adhesion with substrate or clich$\acute{e}$; these properties are critical factors for the printing quality of fine patterning. In this study, Ag nano ink was developed for reverse offset printing and the effect of polyvinylpyrrolidone(PVP), used as a capping agent of Ag nano particles, on the printing quality was investigated. Ag nano particles with a diameter of ~60 nm were synthesized using the conventional polyol synthesis process. Ethanol and ethylene glycol monopropyl ether(EGPE) were used together as the main solvent in order to control the drying and absorption of the solvents during the printing process. The rheological behavior, especially ink adhesion and stickiness, was controlled with washing processes that have an effect on the offset process and that played a critical role in the fine patterning. The electrical and thermal behaviors were analyzed according to the content of PVP in the Ag ink. Finally, an Ag mesh pattern with a line width of 10 ${\mu}m$ was printed using reverse offset printing; this printing showed an electrical resistivity of 36 ${\mu}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ after sintering at $200^{\circ}C$.

  • This review will be concentrated on the spray characteristics of bioethanol and its derived fuels such as ethanol-diesel, ethanol-biodiesel in compression ignition (CI) engines. The difficulty in meeting the severe limitations on NOx and PM emissions in CI engines has brought about many methods for the application of ethanol because ethanol diffusion flames in engine produce virtually no soot. The most popular method for the application of ethanol as a fuel in CI engines is the blending of ethanol with diesel. The physical properties of ethanol and its derivatives related to spray characteristics such as viscosity, density and surface tension are discussed. Viscosity and density of e-diesel and e-biodiesel generally are decreased with increase in ethanol content and temperature. More than 22% and 30% of ethanol addition would not satisfied the requirement of viscosity and density in EN 590, respectively. Investigation of neat ethanol sprays in CI engines was conducted by very few researchers. The effect of ambient temperature on liquid phase penetration is a controversial topic due to the opposite result between two studies. More researches are required for the spray characteristics of neat ethanol in CI engines. The ethanol blended fuels in CI engines can be classified into ethanol-diesel blend (e-diesel) and ethanol-biodiesel (e-biodiesel) blend. Even though dodecanol and n-butanol are rarely used, the addition of biodiesel as blend stabilizer is the prevailing method because it has the advantage of increasing the biofuel concentration in diesel fuel. Spray penetration and SMD of e-diesel and e-biodiesel decrease with increase in ethanol concentration, and in ambient pressure. However, spray angle is increased with increase in the ethanol percentage in e-diesel. As the ambient pressure increases, liquid phase penetration was decreased, but spray angle was increased in e-diesel. The increase in ambient temperature showed the slight effect on liquid phase penetration, but spray angle was decreased. A numerical study of micro-explosion concluded that the optimum composition of e-diesel binary mixture for micro-explosion was approximately E50D50, while that of e-biodiesel binary mixture was E30B70 due to the lower volatility of biodiesel. Adding less volatile biodiesel into the ternary mixture of ethanol-biodiesel-diesel can remarkably enhance micro-explosion. Addition of ethanol up to 20% in e-biodiesel showed no effect on spray penetration. However, increase of nozzle orifice diameter results in increase of spray penetration. The more study on liquid phase penetration and SMD in e-diesel and e-biodiesel is required.

  • A field experiment with microplots(D.20cm, L. 85cm) was conducted to obtain quantitative information on the downward movement of nutrients applied to the soils by different amount of irrigation water. The microplots were installed by embedding PVC column(D. 20cm, L. 90cm) filled with sieved soils in the field. Urea, fused and superphosphate, and KCl were broadcasted over the soil in the microplots and surface layer was covered with lime-amended soils. Microplots were removed 1 week after water application and analysed for Cl, $NH_4$ and $NO_3-N$, Bray 1-P and exchangeable cations of Ca, Mg, and K in each segment. Effect of irrigation rate on the movement of these ions were evaluated with the mean downward movement(MDM) determined with nutrient concentration of each segment and the distance to the segment from the site fertilized. For the nutrient studied, MDM was linearly related to the amount of water applied. When one pore volume of water needed for 0.1 bar soil moisture tension was applied, MDM(cm), computed as the piston front of applied water advanced 10cm, was found to be in the order; Cl, 7.52>Inorganic N, 6.03> K, 3.50> Mg, 2.69>Ca, 1.19>P, 0.29. After the downward movement of applied nutrients soil pH seemed to decrease with irrigation in the surface layer(0-15cm) and increase in the subsurface layer. It was also found that ammonium-nitrogen evolved from urea hydrolysis was more effective in raising the subsoil pH rather than the exchangeable Ca and Mg.

  • The pre-air-drying of Korean pine before the high-temperature and low-humidity drying was shown to be effective in uniform moisture content distribution and prevention of surface check. Our results suggest that initial moisture content of the timber also plays important role in high-temperature and low-humidity drying method. The pre-air-drying also helps in the reduction of surface checks in Korean pine when compared to the Korean pine dried by only high-temperature and low-humidity. End-coating was not effective in the prevention of twist, shrinkage, case hardening and internal checks. The pre-air-drying reduces the internal tension stresses which occur during high-temperature and low-humidity drying thus decreasing case hardening and also preventing internal checks. The pre-air-drying decreases the moisture content and causes shrinkage which leads to increased twist in the Korean pine.

  • Poly-acrylonitrile (PAN) based carbon fibers were stabilized under various tensions in the presence of air at about $200^{\circ}C$ and sequentially carbonized under some different gas environments in the range of 700 to $1500^{\circ}C$. The prepared carbon fibers were used for rechargeable lithium ion battery anode to investigate preparation parameters effects on electrochemical characteristics. It was found that the tension during stabilization, carbonization temperature and gas atmospheres affect the carbon fiber properties such as conductivity, mechanical strength, surface morphology and diffusion coefficient of lithium ion, which are closely related to the on electrolchemical properties as well as the charge/discharge characteristics.

  • A hydrogeomechanical numerical model is presented to evaluate rainfall impacts on groundwater flow in slopes and slope stability. This numerical model is developed based on the fully coupled poroelastic governing equations for groundwater flow in deforming variably saturated geologic media and the Galerkin finite element method. A series of numerical experiments using the model developed are then applied to an unsaturated slope under various rainfall rates. The numerical simulation results show that the overall hydromechanical slope stability deteriorates, and the potential failure nay initiate from the slope toe and propagate toward the slope crest as the rainfall rate increases. From the viewpoint of hydrogeology, the pressure head and hence the total hydraulic head increase as the rainfall rate increases. As a result, the groundwater table rises, the unsaturated zone reduces, the seepage face expands from the slope toe toward the slope crest, and the groundwater flow velocity increases along the seepage face. From the viewpoint of geomechanics, the horizontal displacement increases, and the vertical displacement decreases toward the slope toe as the rainfall rate increases. This may result from the buoyancy effect associated with the groundwater table rise as the rainfall rate increases. As a result, the overall deformation intensifies toward the slope toe, and the unstable zone, in which the factor of safety against shear failure is less than 1, becomes thicker near the slope toe and propagates from the slope toe toward the slope crest. The numerical simulation results also suggest that the potential tension failure is likely to occur within the slope between the potential shear failure surface and the ground surface.

  • Purpose: We describe a new technique of arthroscopic medial plication using pull-out suture with consideration of anatomical location of medial patellofemoral ligament for the treatment of acute or recurrent patellar dislocation. Operative technique: Under arthroscopic examination, sutures are passed through the medial capsule, at which medial patellofemoral ligament is located, from outside to inside of knee joint. Three guide wires are inserted from anterior surface of the patella to upper half of its medial border. Intraarticular portions of sutures are pulled out toward anterior surface of the patella through bony tunnels. Under appropriate tension, the sutures are tied after performing lateral retinacular release. Conclusion: As suturing medial patellofemoral ligament, this technique can maximize the effect of medial plication and can correct subluxation and tilt of the patella. It seems to be a minimally invasive, easy and effective method for the treatment of acute or recurrent patellar dislocation.

  • We studied degradation effects of hydrophobic substrate such as kerosene and diesel by adding a biosurfactant originated from Pseudomonas aeruginosa F722 and chemical surfactants (Tween 80 and detergent) with aeration. The surface tensions of the biosurfactant, Tween 80 and detergent were 30mN/m, 39mN/m and 31mN/m, respectively. When the concentration of biosurfactant added in C-medium was 0.01 and 0.15%(w/v), the ratios of hydrocarbon degradation were 94.3% and 94.2% respectively. It was 6.2%(w/v) higher than when the concentrations of added biosurfactant were 0.05, 0.1 and 0.2%. The degradation ratios of the chemical surfactants (Tween 80 and detergent) were 94.5% and 93.5% respectively. The effects of the biosurfactant and chemical surfactants were similar on the degradation ratio in mixtures of kerosene and diesel. However, the population of viable p. aeruginosa F722 at the end of the cultivation period was twice as higher in the biosurfactant than that in the chemical surfactant. We also studied the effect of aeration (0.5vvm) on the degradation ratio. The biosurfactant addition experiment was conducted with 0.5vvm air, 35$^{\circ}C$, 150rpm, pH 8.0, 3days, 1.0% (w/v) substrate. When p. aeruginosa F722 and 0.15%(w/v) biosurfactant were added, the degradation ratio of hydrocarbon was 94.8%. Without p. aeruginosa F722, it was 68%. Thus, with aeration, the degradation ratio of hydrocarbon was increased by 26.8%. In addition, the cultivation time was shortened by 1/3. The degradation ratios of hydrocarbon in shaking culture (cultivation time; 3days) and stationary culture (cultivation time; 10days) were 94.8 and 93.7% respectively. Thus, the addition of biosurfactant and aeration enhanced the degradation of hydrocarbon originated kerosene and diesel.

  • This paper presents a study on the development of a fire extinguishing agent and extinguishing system for an energy storage system (ESS) fire. The fire extinguishing agent designed to extinguish an ESS fire is a highly permeable fire extinguisher that reduces the surface tension and viscosity while bringing about cooling action. This is the main extinguishing effect of this type of wetting agent, which displays the characteristics of fire extinguishing agents used for penetrating the battery cells inside the ESS module. For the fire extinguishing system, a local application system was designed to suppress fire on a rack-by-rack basis. A 360° rotating nozzle was inserted into the rear hall of the ESS module, and general nozzles were installed in the rack to maximize the fire extinguishing effect. The fire extinguishing agent was strongly discharged by virtue of the gas release pressure. Experiments on fire suppression performance with ESS module 1 unit and module 3 units showed that all visible flames were extinguished in 8 s and 9 s, respectively, by the fire extinguishing agent. In addition, based on confirming reignition for 600 s after the fire extinguishing agent was exhausted, it was confirmed that the ESS fire was completely extinguished without reignition in all fire suppression performance experiments.
