Heating channel layout design and evaluation technology for SMC molding system was investigated in this work. Traditional rules of cooling channel design in injection molding were applied to the present work. Finite element thermal analysis with $ANSYS^{TM}$ was performed to evaluate the temperature distribution of SHC mold surface. SMC mold was manufactured to evaluate the effect of a proposed heating channel layout system on the temperature distribution of SMC mold surface and infrared camera was applied to a measurement of temperature distribution. It was shown that infrared camera application was possible in a measurement of temperature distribution on SHC mold surface.
To achieve desired microstructure and mechanical property of a manufacturing product, heat treatment process is applied as a secondary process after forging. Especially, quenching process is used for improving strength, hardness, and wear resistance since phase transformation occurs owing to rapid heat transfer from the surface of the specimen. In the present paper, a study on surface temperature measurement for water quenching of eutectoid steel was investigated. In order to determine the temperature history in experiments, three different measuring schemes were used by varying installation techniques of K-type thermocouples. Depending on the measured temperature distribution at the surface of the specimen, convective heat transfer coefficients were numerically determined as a function of temperature by the inverse finite element analysis considering the latent heat generation due to phase transformation. Based on the inversely determined convective heat transfer coefficient, temperature, phase, and hardness distributions in the specimen after water quenching were numerically predicted. By comparing the experimental and computational hardness distribution at three different locations in the specimen, the best temperature measuring scheme was determined. This work clearly demonstrates the effect of temperature measurement on the final mechanical property in terms of hardness distribution.
Temperature distribution and heating characteristic of the panel heater for infrared heating have been investigated. The temperature variation with time is firstly measured with the thermocouple to figure out the response time of the heater to the power input. The heater reaches faster to the steady state in comparison to the ceramic heater. The infrared thermal imaging system is utilized to investigate the temperature distribution over the heater surface. The measured thermal images show that the thermal boundary layer induced by the free convection near the heater surface affects the temperature distribution on the surface. The images also show the fairly good uniformity of the temperature distribution in the core region of the surface.
In the present study, an evaluation technology for heating channel layout was investigated in SMC molding system design. Conventional design rules of cooling channel in injection molding process were applied to the present work. Finite element thermal analysis with ANSYSTM was performed to evaluate the temperature distribution of mold surface. SMC mold was manufactured to test the effect of a proposed heating channel layout system on the temperature distribution of mold surface and infrared camera was applied to a measurement of temperature. It was shown that infrared camera application was possible in a measurement of temperature distribution on mold surface.
The aim of this study is to discover thermal characteristics of Ondol heating systems. The housing subjected was categorized into detached single family houses and apartments, reinforced concrete and brick structures, intermittent and continous heating system, and the space subjected was bedroom. In order to understand the thermal characteristics of each floor heating systems, the vertical distribution of indoor temperature and the distribution of surface temperature on the floor were measured. The vertical distribution of indoor temperature except the measurement point 1 largely showed average temperature distribution, and the temperature of the measurement point 1 in the housing surveyed showed the highest temperature in the house "sample A" because of the radiation heating from the floor of the Ondol room. As the result of the measurement, the thermal characteristics of each heating system were more stable distribution in apartments of R.C structure.structure.
A method has been developed to measure the surface temperature in a sliding tribosystem. The determination of the surface temperature was inferred from the temperature of hot spots which were generated by frictional heat. The temperature of hot spots was determined by regressing those digitized data on Gecim-Winer's theoretical model. The experimental results are discussed considering the important factors such as PV and frictional heat. The surface temperature rise is related to the thermal conductivity in low PV range. As PV increases, it reaches nearly constant value called the critical temperature.
To obtain the relation in the electrochemical reduction of $CO_2$ in aqueous $KHCO_3$ colution between an activity for the product and the nature of Cu electrode, the electrode surface was characterized by using two methods: X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and photoelectron emission (PE) measurement. Electrolyses were performed with Cu electrodes pretreated in several ways. The distribution of the products changed drastically with electrolysis time and the pretreatment method. The features in XPS spectra were closely connected with the product distribution. The oxide film at the electrode surface was gradually reduced to bare Cu metal with electrolysis time, resulting in a variation of the product distribution. PE was measured by verying the wavelength of incident light at several temperatures. The dependence of PE on the measurement temperature changed greatly before and after electrolysis.
In upcoming Post Stage-V and Tier 5 regulations of construction machineries, nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions are strictly limited in cold start conditions. In response to this, a method of improving NOx conversion efficiency has been applied by installing an electric heating catalyst (EHC) in front of conventional urea-SCR systems so that the evaporation and thermal decomposition of urea-water solution can be promoted in cold start conditions. In this strategy, the evaporation and thermal decomposition of urea-water solution and corresponding NOx conversion efficiency are governed by temperature conditions inside the EHC. Therefore, characterizing the temperature distribution in the EHC under various operating conditions is crucial for the optimized operation and control of the EHC in Urea-SCR systems. In this study, a 1-D modeling analysis was performed to predict the heater surface temperature distribution in EHC under various operating conditions. The reliability of prediction results was verified by comparing them with measurement results obtained using an infrared (IR) camera. Based on 1-D analysis results, the effects of various EHC operation parameters on the heater surface temperature distribution were analyzed and discussed.
A laser moxibustion therapy device having effect similar to that of traditional moxibustion is being developed using 1064 nm infrared laser. The therapy device allows direct interaction of laser light with the tissue rendering temperature distribution both on the skin surface and deep under the skin. We made a device that could measure temperature of deep under the surface of agar gel tissue phantom using thermocouples. A thermal imaging camera was used to verify results from the temperature measurement device. We compared the characteristics of heat transfer inside the tissue phantom during moxibustion and laser irradiation. The temperature distribution measured by thermocouples was found to be similar to that of distribution given by thermal imaging camera.
