  • fatigue life and nondestructive evaluation were examined experimentally using surface crack specimen and compact tension specimen of 5083 aluminium alloy. Acoustic emission signals emanated during failure of aluminum alloys has been the subject of numerous investigations. Possible sources of AE during deformation have been suggested as the dislocations, fracture of brittle particles and debonding of these particles from the alloy matrix. Fatigue life and penetration behavior of long surface crack can be evaluated quantitatively using K values proposed by authors. The influence of stress ratio on the frequency characteristics of AE signals were investigated.

  • Recently, manufacturing work has been transformed to advanced technology intensive form from mass production with a little items required in the past. It was demanded that superior workpiece surface integrity. However, the study of ductile mode machining was proceeded actively.In this paper, it is developed Ultra-Micro Indentation Device using the PZT actuator. Experimentally, by using theUltra-Micro Indentation device, the micro fracture behavior of the silicon wafer was invesgated. It was possible that ductile-brittle transition point in ultimate surface of brittle material can be detected by adding an acoustic emission sensor system to the Ultra-Micro Indentation apparatus.

  • A monitoring system for magnetic abrasive polishing process is necessary to ensure the polishing products the high quality and integrity. Acoustic emission (AE) signal is known to reflect the material removal phenomena in other machining processes. In a case of the magnetic abrasive polishing of non-magnetic materials, application of AE method is very difficult because of lower machining force on the surface of workpiece and the level of AE signal is extremely lower. In this study, AE sensor-based monitoring system is applied to the magnetic abrasive polishing. The relation between the level of the AE RMS and the surface roughness during the magnetic abrasive polishing of magnesium alloy steel is investigated.

  • Nanoscopic emission from periodic nano-hole arrays in thick metal films is studied experimentally. The experiments give direct evidence for SP excitations in such structures. We show that the symmetry of the emission is governed by polarization and its shape is defined the interference of SP waves of different diffraction orders. Near-Held pattern analysis combined with the far-Held reflection and transmission measurements suggests that the SP eigenmodes of these arrays may be understood as those of ionic plasmon molecules.

  • One of the cylindrical reactor vessels in petrochemical plants was examined by acoustic emission method. The vessel was quiet in view of A.E. activity throughout the pressure range $12-44kg.f/cm^{2}.G$. Above the pressure of $44kg.f/cm^2$, some events were appeared lower than 30 counts. In order to verify the events, other Nondestructive testing methods were performed and a surface crack, 10mm in length and 0.8mm in depth, was found on the outside surface of circumferential weld.

  • A real-time monitoring of an immersed antenna type inductively coupled plasma (ICP) was done with optical emission spectroscopy (OES) to check the reports that sputtered atom density is decreasing as the ICP power is increased. At 10 mTorr pressure of Ar, Mg was sputtered by a bipolar pulsed power supply into 2 MHz ICP which has an insulator covered 2.5 turn antenna. Emitted light was collected in two different positions: above the target and inside the ICP region. With 100 W of Mg sputtering power, the intensities of Mg I (285.06 nm), Mg II (279.48 nm), Ar I (420.1 nm) were increased constantly with ICP power from 100 W to 600 W. At 500 W, the intensity of $Mg^+$ exceeded that of Mg under PID controlled discharge voltage of 180 V. The ratio of Mg II/Mg I was increased from 0.45 to 2.71 approximately 6 times.

  • The influence of annealing process in an $O_2$ atmosphere on the photoluminescence (PL) spectra properties of ZnS nanowires has been investigated. ZnS nanowires with the diameters approximately 100 nm and the lengths a few tens micrometers were synthesized by evaporating ZnS powders on Si substrates while using an Au thin film as a catalyst. ZnS nanowires had an NBE emission band at 430 nm in the violet region. The emission intensity was improved drastically by a process in which ZnS nanowires were heat-treated at $500^{\circ}C$ in an $O_2$ atmosphere for 45 minutes.

  • Korea institute of materials science (KIMS) use a linear deposition source called as a closed drift linear plasma source (CDLPS) as well as dual magnetron sputtering (DMS) to deposit SiOxCyHz films in $HMDSO/O_2$ plasma. The CDLPS generates linear plasma using closed drifting electrons and can reduce device degradations due to energetic ion bombardments on organic devices such as organic photovoltaic and organic light emission diode by controlling an ion energy. The deposited films are investigated by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Optical emission spectroscopy (OES) is used to measure relative radical populations of dissociation and recombination products such as H, CH, and CO in plasma. And SiOx film is applied to a barrier film on organic photovoltaic devices.

  • Exhausting fossil fuel and increasing concern of air pollution have brought on the change of the focus of developing new vehicles from performance to fuel economy and emission. The gasoline engines adopting the naturally aspirated way use the throttle-body for engine load control. Therefore, its pumping loss increases more than that of the diesel engine, and also mostly operating in a partial load condition has bad influence on fuel economy and emission. In these days, the continuous variable valve timing system and variable induction system are adopted in order to improve fuel consumption and emission. In this study, we optimize the runner length and operate region of variable induction system to simulataneously improve the performance, fuel economy, and emission of gasoline engine with employing GT-Power as a CAE tool for engine analysis and PIAnO as PIDO tool for process integration and design optimization.

최소제곱법에 의한 PSC보의 음향방출파원 위치결정 (Location of Acoustic Emission Sources in a PSC Beam using Least Squares)

  • 음향방출(AE: Acoustic Emission) 기법은 구조물 내부에서 발생하는 균열을 연속적으로 모니터링 할 수 있는 효과적인 비파괴검사법이다. 본 논문에서는 AE센서을 이용하여 PSC 보에서의 파원위치를 결정하기 위한 수학적 모델을 제시하고 실험을 통해 제시된 모델을 평가하였다. 실험을 위해 제작된 5m-PSC보의 표면에서 인위적으로 쉬미트해머의 타격에 의해 탄성파를 발생시켰으며 1m 간격으로 선형으로 배치된 7개의 AE센서에 의해 탄성파의 도달시간이 측정되었다. 최소제곱법에 의해 측정된 도달시간의 잔차의 제곱합이 최소가 되도록 파원의 위치를 구한 후, 실제 타격위치와 비교하여 추정된 위치결정방법의 정확도를 평가하였다. 54개의 타격실험을 통해 얻어진 파원위치의 평균제곱근 오차는 약 2cm 이었다.
