  • Effects of nano-silver contents(15~50wt%) on screen printed-etched gate electrodes and electrical characteristics of OTFTs were investigated. As Ag contents increased, the screen-printed film was transferred exactly without spreading and obtained the densely-packed layer with a stable and excellent conductivity but, its thickness was increased and surface became rougher. It was found that the leakage current of MIM devices and off-state currents of OTFTs became larger due to poor step coverage of PVP dielectric layer on the thick and rough gate electrodes for nano-Ag inks with Ag contents more than 30wt%.

  • The effects of shot peening on the fatigue strength of SK-5M steel is investigated by experiment. The shot peening process is investigated optimum peening condition by changing impeller speed and exposure time. Bending fatigue test is accomplished to investigate the effect of optimum peening condition on the fatigue characteristics. As exposure time is increased, fatigue life in high stress is increased in early stage, become the maximum from 60 to 100 seconds, and then is decreased. Observing fracture surface through SEM after fatigue test, we can see clear configuration of cracks and peening layer.

  • We suggest a facile transmission electron microscopy (TEM) specimen preparation method for the direct (polymer-free) transfer of layer-area graphene from Cu substrates to a TEM grid. The standard (polymer-based) method and direct transfer method were by TEM, high-resolution TEM, and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The folds and crystalline particles were formed in a graphene specimen by the standard method, while the graphene specimen by the direct method with a new etchant solution exhibited clean and full coverage of the graphene surface, which reduced several wet chemical steps and accompanying mechanical stresses and avoided formation of the oxide metal.

  • The adsorption processes of methyl chloride on Si(100)-2$\times$1 have been studied by low energy electron diffraction (LEED), Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) and semiempirical PM3 calculations. The dissociative adsorption of the methyl chloride on Si(100) takes place without breaking of the silicon dimer with high efficiency. For adsorption at the room temperature, the existence of a precursor state is confirmed by the behavior of the sticking probability depending on the coverage and temperature. From AES measurements, the determined activation barrier of adsorption ($\Delta$ Hads) is -28.4 kj/mol. This results indicate that the dissociative process is nonactivated. The optimized precursor state of CH3Cl on the Si(100)-2$\times$1 surface was determined by PM3 calculations based on a cluster model.

  • The growth structure of Fe on CU(001) was studied by scanning tunneling microscope. An analysis of size distribution of Fe islands on Cu(001) surface was made to determine whether Fe atoms mix with substrate Cu. The size distribution deviates from the standard scaling behavior, indicating that atomic density of Fe decreases with coverage up to 1 ML. The growth can be characterized by layer-by-layer scheme from 1 ML to 5 ML. This result agrees well with previously studied, Auger spectroscopy and RHEED result.

  • A coverage of about 1 μm-sized pores of a membrane filter by four monolayers of maleic acids copolymers and poly(allylamine) (PAA) was attained by Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) technique through a covalent cross-linking followed a polyion complexation at the air-water interface. The copolymers were prepared to have side chains of hydrocarbon tail, carboxyl, and/or oligoether in the repeat unit. The surface pressure-area isotherms showed that the monolayers on an aqueous PAA have more expanded area than on pure water. The monolayers were transferable on a calcium fluoride substrate and a fluorocarbon membrane filter as Y deposition type, and the resulting LB films were characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. A polymer network produced through interchain amide formation was confirmed in as-deposited films. The films were heat-treated in order to complete the cross-linking. SEM observation of the heat-treated film on a porous membrane filter showed that the four layer film was sufficiently stable to cover the filter pore of about 1 μm. Immersion of the film in water or in chloroform did not cause any change in its appearance on SEM and in FT-IR spectra.

  • A lattice mean field theory is developed to investigate the conformational properties of monolayer amphiphiles at the air-water interface. By generalizing Dill and Cantor's method and by extending Whittington's recurrence equation, we derive the supermatrix recurrence equation which is applied to calculation of various segment density profiles and order parameter, etc. In deriving the equation, we incorporated the chain stiffness effect and the chain connectivity which are distinguished features of linear chain molecule. Our result shows that, as the surface coverage $\sigma$ increases the chain ordering process with respect to vertical axis of the lattice system becomes dominant.

  • The goal of this study was to use gelatin to modify the surface of fibroin microspheres to enhance their biofunctionality for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. Three different methods were used for the modification: coating, incorporation, and covalent bonding. Wound-healing assays demonstrated that gelatin modification of fibroin microspheres enhances 3T3 and HDF cell migration. Although the level of gelatin coverage varied depending on the method used, there was no significant difference between the modified microspheres. The gelatin-modified microspheres also increased the migration velocity of individual 3T3 cells. The results suggest that gelatin modification of fibroin microspheres is a promising approach for developing functional biomaterials with enhanced biological properties. Further optimization of gelatin modification is necessary to maximize the biofunctionality of fibroin microspheres.

  • SCUBA-2 North Ecliptic Pole survey, one of the ongoing JCMT large programs, is designed to obtain 850 ㎛ imaging data over ~4 deg2 around the NEP based on the AKARI NEP-Wide survey. By August 2019, the program is 50 % complete in terms of observing time, increasing the submillimeter coverage by a factor of 2 with the comparable depth. The rms measured in the deepest center is 0.92 mJy/beam, slightly above the 850 ㎛ confusion limit. With 4 σ detection, the source count is 50 % complete at 9 mJy. The surface density of submillimeter galaxies at this flux limit is 200 deg-2. Multi-wavelength identification of the 850 ㎛ sources was done through the likelihood analysis based on the far-infrared (250-500 ㎛), mid-infrared (18 ㎛), near-infrared (2-4 ㎛), and optical (i-band) source catalog. We are going to present morphologies and physical properties of 850 ㎛ selected submillimeter galaxies with the help of ancillary multi-wavelength datasets over the NEP area.

  • Spinel LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 (LNMO) has been considered as one of most promising cathode material, because of its low-cost and competitive energy density. However, 4.7V vs. Li/Li+ of high operating potential facilitates electrolyte degradation on cathode-electrolyte interface during charge-discharge process. In particular, commercial polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) is not sutaible for LNMO cathode binder because its weak van der waals force induces thick and non-uniform coverage on the cathode surface. In this review, we study high performance binders for LNMO cathode, which forms uniform coating layer to prevent direct contact between electrolyte and LNMO particle as well as modifying high quality cathode electrolyte interphase, improved cell performace.
