  • High quality ZnO:Al films were prepared on glass substrates by in-line RF magnetron sputtering and their surface morphologies were modified by wet-etching process in dilute acid solution to improve optical properties for application to silicon thin film solar cells as front electrode. The as-deposited films show a strong preferred orientation in [001] direction under our experimental conditions. A low resistivity below $5{\times}10^{-4}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ and high optical transmittance above 80% in a visible range are achieved in the films deposited at optimized conditions. After wet-etching, the surface morphologies of the films are changed dramatically depending on the deposition conditions, especially working pressure. The optical properties such as total/diffuse transmittance, haze and angular resolved distribution of light are varied significantly with the surface morphology feature, whereas the electrical properties are seldom changed. The cell performances of silicon thin film solar cells fabricated on the textured films are also evaluated in detail with comparison of commercial $SnO_2$:F films.

  • Recently, many researchers and industry are looking for ways to decrease the use of lubricants because of economical and environmental reasons. One of the lubrication technologies is the MQL method. This study presents a research of MQL and Wet milling processes of Al 6061 material. For this experiment, the test specimen is suggested, and various machining conditions are applied. And, shape of micro-pattern which has been recently spotlighted is included in the test specimen. In order to compare MQL with Wet machining, several milling experiments were carried out, varying feed rate, cutting speed, depth of cut, etc. Finally, the surface roughness results of machining tests according to the process conditions were measured. It is expected that the results of machining experiments can be used to predict the surface roughness of various MQL milling processes.

  • Extraction conditions were optimized using response surface methodology for preparing high-quality, hot water extracts from cultivated Chrysanthemum indicum L. petals. A fractional factorial design was applied to investigate the effects of added sample ratio ($X_1$), extraction temperature ($X_2$) and extraction time ($X_3$) variables on extract properties, such as, soluble solid contents ($Y_1$), sugar content ($Y_2$), ?E ($Y_3$), turbidity ($Y_4$), total phenol ($Y_5$) and DPPH ($Y_6$). Second-order models were employed to generate a 3-dimensional response surface for dependent variables and their coefficients of determination ($R^2$) ranged from 0.8408${\sim}$0.9914. The range of optimum conditions at $80^{\circ}C$ extraction for maximize characteristics of hot water extracts was 2.3${\sim}$2.7 g and 9.2${\sim}$11.2 hr.

  • PURPOSES : This study aimed to measure the skid resistance of the sidewalk in order to find out the relationship between different surface types and skid resistance. By using British Pendulum Tester, skid resistance of sidewalk was measured in a wet after snow-melt, sludgy, and snowy conditions. METHODS : The skid resistance was measured on surfaces including Concrete Interlocking Block Paving, Colour Asphalt Pavement, Granite Block Paving, Manhole, and Tactile Paving for Visually Impaired. Five trials at each measurement were made, and the average and standard deviation were derived. RESULTS : The skid resistance measured in wet after snow-melt, sludgy, and snowy conditions for the various surface types are summarized and compared. Reduction rates of skid resistance of sludgy and snowy against wet after snow-melt are also analysed. The skid resistance variation between measurement points which mimic pedestrian route in study site are analysed to check out the consistency of the skid resistance along the sidewalk. CONCLUSIONS : The study concluded that the skid resistance of sidewalk surfaces varied depending on the surface types and weather conditions. Secondly, reduction rates of skid resistance according to weather changes are varied depending on the surface types, Thirdly, consistency of skid resistance along the pedestrian route is hardly acquired in the study site at least. So, future study on the consistency evaluation for skid resistance along sidewalk is strongly recommended.

  • This paper presents constitution of a moderate price thermography system for on-line measurement. All objects with some temperature above absolute zero radiate in the infrared. The intensities and spectra of the infrared radiated from some object depend on the conditions and temperature distributions on the surface of the objects, and the temperature distributions differ from each others with different undersurface structures. Consequently, infrared radiation is useful for diagnosis of the conditions on the surface and undersurface of electric power apparatus. But the present, because engineers directly measure the temperatures of apparatuses in off-line, the measured data do not always have the information of the past. The proposed system is able to analyze not only the information of the past but the trend of deterioration, and the system is able to compensate for the distortion of surface temperature as to weather conditions. The thermal image histogram is equalized to upgrade observability, and a pan-tilter is adopted to control of direction for any target point.

  • In this paper, numerical and experimental studies are performed to investigate the liquid impact on a free falling wedge. In the numerical simulation, the structure is assumed to be rigid and the elastic response is ignored. The fully nonlinear coupling between wedge and water is considered by an auxiliary function method based on the Boundary Element Method (BEM). At the intersection of the wedge surface and liquid surface, two coincident nodes are used to decouple the boundary conditions. The Eulerian free surface conditions in the local coordinate system are adopted to update the deformed free surface. In the experiments, five pressure sensors are fixed on each side of the wedge which is released from an experimental installation. Steel and aluminum wedges that have different structural elasticity are used in the experiments to investigate the influence of structural elasticity on the impact force. Numerical results are compared with experimental data and they agree very well. The influence of fluid gravity, body mass, initial entry speed and deadrise angle on the impact pressure are further investigated.

  • The present study is concerned with the hydrostatic extrusion process of copper-clad aluminium bar to investigate the bonding conditions as well as the basic flow characteristics. Considering the bonding mechanism of bi-metal contact surface as cold pressure welding the normal pressure and the contact surface expansion are selected as process parameters governing the bonding conditions, in this study the critical normal pressure required for the local extrusion-the protrusion of virgin surfaces by the surface expansion at the interface-is obtained using a slip line method and is then used as a criteron for the bonding. A rigid plastic finite element method is used to analyze the steady state extrusion process. The interface profile of bi-metal rod is predicted by tracking the paths of two particles adja-process. The interface profile of bi-metal rod is predicted by tracking the paths of two particles adja-cent to interface surface. The contact surface area ration and the normal pressure along the interface are calculated and compared to the critical normal pressure to check bonding. It is found that the model predictions are generally in good agreement with the experimental observations. The compar-isons of the extrusion pressure and interface profile by the finite element with those by experi-ments are also given.

  • This paper is concerned with the analysis on the surface stress profiles of perfectly plastic material in backward extrusion process. Due to heavy surface expansion appeared usually in the backward extrusion process, the tribological conditions along the interface between the material and the punch land are very severe. In the present study, the analyses have focused to reveal the surface conditions at the contact boundary for various punch shapes in terms of surface expansion, contact pressure, and relative movement between punch and workpiece which consists of sliding velocity and distance, respectively. Punch geometries adopted in the analysis include concave, hemispherical, pointed and ICFG recommended shapes. Extensive simulation has been conducted by applying the rigid-plastic finite element method to the backward extrusion process under different punch geometries. The simulation results are summarized in terms of surface expansion, contact pressure, sliding velocity and sliding distance at different reduction in height, deformation patterns, and load-stroke relationship, respectively.

  • This paper describes the results of a study on the tracking performance of outdoor insulating materials based on the rotating wheel dip test(RWDT). And, the influence of surface degradation was evaluated through such as measurement of the flashover voltage after and before tracking test, also aspects of surface degradation using scanning electron microscopy. The time to tracking breakdown of treated filled specimen is longer than untreated filled specimen. And, after the RWDT, the surface of specimen by adding untreated filler appeared heavy erosion. It was found that the addition to surface treated filler, the better tracking resistance. In the RWDT, the breakdown specimen is not affected by the dry flashover voltage, despite the fact that the surface degradation of tracking test has different state on each specimen. This suggests that wet flashover voltage play an important role in evaluating of tracking and erosion on the surface degradation in tracking test. And, the flashover voltage of specimen under wet conditions are greatly affected by the salt concentration and degree of degradation by the RWDT Because of hydrophobicity and degree of degradation by the RWDT, the flashover voltage of treated filled specimen is higher than that of untreated filled specimen. Different types of specimen may have different hydrophobicity and their surface state under contaminated conditions may not be the same.

  • In this study, researches were conducted as follows. First, as the basic experiment, the cutting speed, feedrate, and the depth of cut were set as the process parameters, and by setting the surface roughness as the factor of measurement for each of the combinations, and the analysis about cutting tendency of the material was conducted by proceeding the turning process of Co-Cr-Mo alloy. Second, by setting the feature of the surface roughness according to the 'turning processing condition' that was confirmed in the previous experiment, and by applying the Taguchi Method, the conditions that influence the features of the surface roughness according to the 'turning processing condition' of Co-Cr-Mo was analyzed, and also by measuring the surface roughness according to each of the 'cutting conditions', the optimal processing condition was generated. As the result of analysis, it was possible to understand that the factor that mostly affects the surface roughness was the cutting speed, followed by the dept of cutting and transfer speed, and as for the optimal processing condition, it was possible to find that the cutting speed was 5,000rpm, and the depth of cut was 0.1mm, and the feedrate was 0.003mm/rev, and the value of the surface roughness at this point is $0.197{\mu}m$.
