  • The running blots between patterns during electroless nickel electroless palladium immersion gold (ENEPIG) surface finish of printed circuit board (PCB) are investigated and a proper solution is presented. Computational chemistry is first employed to understand the process and experiments are then designed to verify the proposed ideas. A $PdCl_2$ activator which has relatively weak chemical bonding to the epoxy resin is introduced to prevent the formation of palladium seeds on the epoxy resin and a couple of operational measures such as increasing HCl concentration and lowering the temperature of Pd activation process are executed to prevent a further hydrolysis of $PdCl_2$ to more stable $Pd(OH)_2$ in aqueous solution. Computational chemistry provides thermodynamic backgrounds for experiments and their results. This combined approach is expected to be very useful in the research of relevant processes.

  • The present investigation deals with the corrosion inhibition of mild steel in 1M $H_2SO_4$ with 1, 4-dihydro pyridine and its derivatives prepared using microwave activation method. The synthesis of inhibitor was confirmed by IR spectra. The effect of 1, 4-dihydropyridine derivatives on the corrosion inhibition of mild steel in 1M $H_2SO_4$ was studied using weight loss and electrochemical polarization techniques. Influence of temperature (303-333K) and synergistic effect of halide ions ($I^-$, $Br^-$ and $Cl^-$) on the inhibition behaviour was also studied. Corrosion products on the metal surface were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and a possible mechanism of inhibition by the compounds is suggested. Thermodynamic parameters were calculated using weight loss data in order to elaborate the mechanism of corrosion inhibition. Polarization measurements revealed that the studied compounds acted as mixed type inhibitor but slightly anodic in nature. Electrochemical impedance measurements revealed that the compounds were adsorbed onto the carbon steel surface and the adsorption obeyed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The synergistic effect of halide ions on the IE increases with increase in concentration. The IE obtained from atomic absorption spectrophotometric studies was found to be in good agreement with that obtained from the conventional weight loss method. SEM revealed the information of a smooth, dense protective layer in presence of the inhibitors.

  • This study was performed to analyze the effects of forces to the alveolar bone by various molar uprighting spring such as helical uprighting spring. T-loop spring, Modified T-loop spring and open coil spring. The simplified two-dimensional photoelastic model was constructed with a lower left posterior quadrant containing the second molar, the first and second premolars and the canine, with the first molar missing. Several molar uprighting springs were fabricated from 0.017 by 0.022 inch blue Elgiloy and applied to the photoelastic model. Two-dimensional photoelastic stress analysis was performed, and the stress distribution was recorded by photography The results obtained were as follows; 1. In all the kinds of the springs, the center of rotation of the mandibular second molar was oserved at the apical 1/5-1/6 between the alveolar crest and the root apex. 2. In all the kinds of the spring, the stress induced in the mesial root surface of the mandibular second molar was relatively homogeneous but there was some difference in the magnitude of the stress. 3. In the kinds of the springs, the distal crown tipping moment of the second molar was increased in turn as open coil spring, helical uprighting spring, T-loop spring, and modified T-loop spring. 4. The largest extrusive force was occured in the T-loop spring, intrusive force was occured in Modified T-loop spring only, and the largest distal tipping force was occured in open coil spring. 5. In the T-loop spring with activation, the stress induced in the mesial root surface of the second molar was increased gradually from the root apex to the alveolar crest and highly concentrated in the alveolar crest.

  • Etching kinetics of $EAGLE^{2000TM}$ LCD glass was investigated using 2.5MHF-xMHCl$(x:0\sim8)$ acid mixtures. It was concluded that the reaction of HF-containing solutions with the glass was the rate-determining step for the dissolution process when considering following observations; the value of the activation energy $35\sim45$ kJ/mol and insensitivity of the dissolution rate to the etching time and the moving velocity of the glass into the solution. The etching rate linearly increased with increasing the HCl concentration in the etchant. It was also observed that the etched surface was as smooth as the original surface by addition of HCl and increase in etching temperature. This is due to the catalytic role of the $H_{3}O^{+]$ ions in the dissolution process.

  • This study aimed to examine whether McConnell taping for deltoid inhibition affects the Electromyographic (EMG) activity of shoulder girdle muscles during arm elevation. Ten young healthy men were randomly assigned to an experimental and control groups of five men each. For the experimental group, we performed taping for deltoid inhibition on the skin over anterior and posterior deltoids with non-elastic specific tape, and sham-taping with non-elastic under-tape for the control group. Surface EMG measurements were performed three times (before, during and after the tapings) at upper and lower trapezius, mid-deltoid, and serratus anterior muscles while elevating dominant aim with loading and unloading conditions. In deltoid inhibition taping group, there were significant differences in EMG activity of mid-deltoid (p<.05) and serratus anterior (p<.05) muscles during arm elevation with loading. During arm elevation without loading, the EMG activity was significantly decreased for MD in the McConnell taping group (p<.05). The findings indicate that deltoid inhibition taping can modify the activation patterns in shoulder girdle muscles as well as in deltoid muscle. in clinical setting. it may be effectively used for the management of patients with shoulder dysfunction.

  • Recently, there is a need for automatic recognition of a variety of symbols on roads because of activation of information services using digital maps on the Web or mobile devices. This paper proposes a method which automatically recognizes 11 kinds of symbolic road markings on the road surface with HOG-SP(Histogram of oriented Gradients-Split Projection) descriptor and shows improvement of lane position detection with recognized symbolic road markings. With the proposed method, recognition rate of 81.99% has been proven on NAVER road view images and the experiments proves the superiority of proposed method by comparisons with other existing methods. Moreover, this paper shows 7.64% higher lane position detection rate by recognizing road surface marking beforehand than only detecting lanes' positions.

  • Here, we show that an endophytic bacterial strain, Enterobacter asburiae B1 exhibits the ability to elicit ISR in cucumber, tobacco and Arabidopsis thaliana. This indicates that strain B1 has a widespread ability to elicit ISR on various host plants. In this study, E. asburiae strain B1 did not show antifungal activity against tested major fungal pathogens, Colletotrichum orbiculare, Botrytis cinerea, Phytophthora capsici, Rhizoctonia solani, and Fusarium oxysporum. Moreover, the siderophore production by E. asburiae strain B1 was observed under in vitro condition. In greenhouse experiments, the root treatment of strain B1 significantly reduced disease severity of cucumber anthracnose caused by fungal pathogen C. orbiculare compared to nontreated control plants. By root treatment of strain B1 more than 50% disease control against anthracnose on cucumber was observed in all greenhouse experiments. Simultaneously, under the greenhouse condition, the soil drench of strain B1 and a chemical inducer benzothiadiazole (BTH) to tobacco plants induced GUS activity which is linked with activation of PR promoter gene. Furthermore, in Arabidopsis thaliana plants the soil drench of strain B1 induced the defense gene expression of PR1 and PDF1.2 related to salicylic acid and jasmonic acid/ethylene signaling pathways, respectively. In this study, for the main focus on root colonization by strain B1 associated with defense responses, bacterial cells of strain B1 was tagged with the gfp gene encoding the green fluorescent protein in order to determine the colonization pattern of strain B1 in cucumber. The gfp-tagged B1 cells were found on root surface and internal colonization in root, stem, and leaf. In addition to this, the scanning electron microscopy observation showed that E. asburiae strain B1 was able to colonized cucumber root surface.

  • Nanostructured oxides are widely used in heterogeneous catalysis where their catalytic properties are closely associated with the size and morphology at nanometer level. The effect of particle size has been well decumented in the past two decades, but the shape of the nanoparticles has rarely been concerned. Here we illustrate that the redox and acidic-basic properties of oxides are largely dependent on their shapes by taking $Co_3O_4$, $Fe_2O_3$, $CeO_2$ and $La_2O_3$ nanorods as typical examples. The catalytic activities of these rod-shaped oxides are mainly governed by the nature of the exposed crystal planes. For instance, the predominant presence of {110} planes which are rich in active $Co^{3+}$ on $Co_3O_4$ nanorods led to a much higher activity for CO oxidation than the nanoparticles that mainly exposed the {111} planes. The simultaneous exposure of iron and oxygen ions on the surface of $Fe_2O_3$ nanorods have significantly enhanced the adsorption and activation of NO and thereby promoted the efficiency of DeNOx process. Moreover, the exposed surface planes of these rod-shaped oxides mediated the reaction performance of the integrated metal-oxide catalysts. Au/$CeO_2$ catalysts exhibited outstanding stability under water-gas shift conditions owing to the strong bonding of gold particle on the $CeO_2$ nanorods where the formed gold-ceria interface was resistant towards sintering. Cu nanoparticles dispersed on $La_2O_3$ nanorods efficiently catalyzed transfer dehydrogenation of primary aliphatic alcohols based on the uniue role of the exposed {110} planes on the support. Morphology control at nanometer level allows preferential exposure of the catalytically active sites, providing a new stragegy for the design of highly efficient nanostructured catalysts.

  • To control the hydrolysis rate of PET fabric with NaOH, HCl and $CH_3$COOH(HAc), as regulating reagent, were added to the 0.5 M NaOH solution. The concentrations of acids in 0.5 M NaOH were varied. PET fabrics were treated with aqueous solutions of acids in 0.5 M NaOH under different conditions. The weight loss of PET fabric, the rate of hydrolysis, the apparent activation energy (E$_{\alpha}$), the handle value, the etched surface of treated PET fabric, and the effect of salts such as NaCl, $CH_3$COONa(NaAc), and NH$_4$Cl on the weight loss were discussed. Acids in the aqueous 0.5 M NaOH solution decreased the weight loss of PET fabric bacause of neutralization of OH- and the weight loss of PET fabrics treated with corresponding concentration of aqueous NaOH solution to the concentrations of the aqueous solutions of acids in 0.5 M NaOH was lower than that of PET fabrics treated with aqueous solutions of acids in 0.5 M NaOH. The addition of NaCl to aqueous NaOH solution accelerated the reaction of OH- with PET greatly, the addition of NaAc increased the weight loss slightly, but the addition of NH$_4$Cl decreased the weight loss. It was thought that the very remarkable result that NaCl in aqueous NaOH solution promoted the hydrolysis of PET with NaOH would contribute to the conservation of energy and NaOH in the weight loss finishing process of PET fabric. The etched surface and the handle value of treated PET fabric were independent of the difference in the kinds of acids and salts added.nd salts added.
