One of the most critical aspects of the modern semiconductor industry is the quality of wafer surface, the roughness of which is mostly caused by the ingot slicing. And the grinding is supposed to be the main process to reduce the surface roughness. The vibrations of the disc surface grinder are the major problem to effectively achieve the required surface quality. In this study, the structure of a disc surface grinder was analyzed through the experiment and the computer simulation to investigate the dynamic characteristics of the machine, and further to alter the design for the improved stability. The result of the study shows that simple design alterations without alternating main body can effectively suppress the vibrations of the machine.

Motion control schemes are generally classified into three categories (point stabilization, trajectory tracking, and path following). This paper deals with the problem which is associated with the initial deployment of a group of Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USVs) and corresponding point stabilization. To keep the formation of a group of USVs, it is necessary to set the relationship between each vehicle. A forcing functions such as potential fields are designed to keep the formation and a graph Laplacian is used to represent the connectivity between vehicle. In case of fixed topology of the graph representing the communication between the vehicles, the graph Laplacian is assumed constant. However the graph topologies are allowed to change as the vehicles move, and the system dynamics become discontinuous in nature because the graph Laplacian changes as time passes. To check the stability in the stage of deployment, the system is modeled with Kronecker algebra notation. Filippov's calculus of differential equations with discontinuous right hand sides is then used to formally characterize the behavior of USVs. The stability of the system is analyzed with Lyapunov's stability theory and LaSalle's invariance principle, and the validity is shown by checking the variation of state norm.

Density and temeprature fronts are common features of the ocean. However, frontal dynamics are not quasi-geostrophic because the isopycnal deflections associated with fronts are large compared with the scale height of the hydrostatic geopotential. The frontal geostrophic model, developed by Cushman-Roisin et al.(1992) is generally used fro describing the dynamics of surface-density ocean fronts, whereas the two-layer frontal geostrophic model is used for fronts on a sloping continental shelf. This paper investigates the baroclinic nonlinear stability of surface-density ocean fronts and fronts on a sloping continental shelf using the two-layer frontal geostrophic model mentioned above. Nonlinear stability criteria for the two kinds of fronts are obtained using Arnol'd's (1965; 1969) variational principle and a prior estimate method. This is the first time a nonlinear stability criterion for surface ocean fronts has been established, furthermore, the results obtained for fronts on a sloping bottom are superior to any previous ones.
Diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating was studied to be a good tribological problem-solver due to its low friction characteristics and high hardness. However, generally hydrogenated DLC film has shown a weak thermal stability above $300^{\circ}C$. However, the silicon doping DLC process by DC pulse plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) for the new DLC coating which has a good characterization with thermal stability at high temperature itself has been observed. And we were discussed a process for optimizing silicon content to promote a good thermal stability using various tetramethylsilane (TMS) and methane gas at high-temperature. The chemical compositions of silicon-containing DLC film was analyzed using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) before and after heat treatment. Raman spectrum analysis showed the changed structure on the surface after the high-temperature exposure testing. In particular, the hardness of silicon-containing DLC film showed different values before and after the annealing treatment.
In case heavy rainfall is a key factor of slope failure, the failure zone is usually developed within the depth of 3~5m from the ground surface regardless of the location of the watertable. If rainfall is taken into consideration, it is general that the slope stability analysis is carried out under the assumption that the cut slope is saturated to the slope surface or the watertable elevates to a certain height so that ${\gamma}_{sat}$, the unit weight of saturated soil, is used. However, the analysis method mentioned above can't exactly simulate the variation of pore water pressure in the slope and yields different failure shape. The applicability of slope stability analysis method considering the distribution of pore water pressure within the slope with heavy rainfalls, was checked out after the stability analysis of a lage-scale cut slope in a highway construction site, where surface failure occurred with heavy rainfalls. An appropriate slope stabilization method is proposed on the base of the outcome of the analysis.
Disinfection of dental impressions are necessary due to contamination with patient’s saliva and blood, which is a potential for cross-infection. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of disinfection of four hydrophilic rubber impression materials with three disinfecting solutions, on the dimensional stability and surface hardness of improved stone casts. Three hydrophilic vinyl polysiloxane impression materials(Express, Reprosil, Exafine) and one polyether impression material(Impregum-F) were mixed according to the manufacturer’s directions and impressions were made on a ADA specification No. 19 stainless-steeldie. On removal of the impressions, each impression was immersed in one of the disinfectants(Banicide, Potadine, Clorox) for 10 minutes. After disinfection, type IV improved stone. casts were poured. On this cast, the linear dimension and surface hardness were measuredusing a Measurescope(Nikon, Japan) and a Barcol hardness tester(Barber, Colman Co U. S. A). The results were as follows : 1. The improved stone casts from disinfected Reprosil and Impregum-F impression material did not show dimensional changes(P>0.01). Those from disinfected Express and Exafine impression material showed dimensional changes(P<0.01). The amount of shrinkage was not clinically significant. 2. The improved stone casts from disinfected Express impression material did not exhibit changes in surface hardness(P>0.01), but those from disinfected Reprosil, Exafine, Imp regnum-F impression material showed changes in surface hardness(P<0.01). 3. The dimensinal stability and surface hardness of the improved stone casts were satisfactory using Banicide on Express, all disinfectants used in this study on Reprosil, Potadin and Clorox on Exafine, Banicide and Clorox on Impregum-F. According to these results, immersion disinfection of hydrophilic rubber impression mate rials did not adversely affect the resultant casts. Nevertheless compatibility tests of impression materials and disinfectants should be done when disinfecting impressions.
Surface-active substances in defatted rapeseed cake were obtained using a supercritical fluid extraction method. Then, it was purified by removing sinapine in the extract through a series of steps using a mixed solvent: diethyl ether and ethyl acetate (1:1, v/v). Emulsifying properties of purified surface-active substances were investigated, including fat globule size, zeta potentials and creaming stability and its antioxidant activity in emulsion systems were also studied by peroxide value and $^1H$-NMR spectrum. It was found that fat globules in emulsions with purified surface-active substances were much smaller than ones with the unpurified. In addition, as pH of the emulsion lowered and with increasing NaCl concentration in the emulsion, they were observed to increase, which led to worse creaming stability. These properties were reflected in changes of zeta potentials of emulsions. The oxidative stability was better in emulsions with purified surface-active substances than ones with Tween 20 or commercial lecithin, possibly resulted from the existence of sinapic acid in the extract. It was concluded that purified surface-active substances from defatted rapeseed cake could be simultaneously used as emulsifier and antioxidant agent in emulsion system.
Semiconductor nanowires (NWs) are future building block for nano-scale devices. Especially, Ge NWs are fascinated material due to the high electrical conductivity with high carrier mobility. It is strong candidate material for post-CMOS technology. However, thermal stability of Ge NWs are poor than conventional semiconductor material such as Si. Especially, when it reduced size as small as nano-scale it will be melted around CMOS process temperature due to the melting point depression. Recently, Graphene have been intensively interested since it has high carrier mobility with single atomic thickness. In addition, it is chemically very stable due to the $sp^2$ hybridization. Graphene films shows good protecting layer for oxidation resistance and corrosion resistance of metal surface using its chemical properties. Recently, we successfully demonstrated CVD growth of monolayer graphene using Ge catalyst. Using our growth method, we synthesized Ge/graphene core/shell (Ge@G) NW and conducted it for highly thermal stability required devices. We confirm the existence of graphene shell and morphology of NWs using SEM, TEM and Raman spectra. SEM and TEM images clearly show very thin graphene shell. We annealed NWs in vacuum at high temperature. Our results indicated that surface melting phenomena of Ge NWs due to the high surface energy from curvature of NWs start around $550^{\circ}C$ which is $270^{\circ}C$ lower than bulk melting point. When we increases annealing temperature, tip of Ge NWs start to make sphere shape in order to reduce its surface energy. On the contrary, Ge@G NWs prevent surface melting of Ge NWs and no Ge spheres generated. Furthermore, we fabricated filed emission devices using pure Ge NWs and Ge@G NWs. Compare with pure Ge NWs, graphene protected Ge NWs show enhancement of reliability. This growth approach serves a thermal stability enhancement of semiconductor NWs.
The prosthodontic treatment of severely resorbed edentulous patients has been one of the frustrating areas due to extensive loss of tissues. The integrated neuromuscular balance among tongue, lip, and cheek is compromised. The retention, stability, and support are the three major factors to influence the clinical outcome. Fish described a denture as having three surface, with each surface playing an independent and important role in the over all fit, stability, and comfort of the denture. He recommended that the polished surface should be a series of inclines so that pressure from muscular activity will retain dentures. Within the denture space there is an area that has been termed the neutral zone. The neutral zone is that area in the mouth where, during function, the forces of the tongue pressing outward are neutralized by the forces of the cheeks and lips pressing inward. According to Jacobson and Krol, neuromuscular control interacts to provide retention and the relationship of polished surface of denture base to the surrounding muscular structure of orofacial capsule facilitates the stability and retention. This neutral zone concept has been demonstrated with various modification by a number of authors. The theory used to develop the denture base contours is based on the belief that the muscle should functionally mold not only the border but the entire polished surface. Lott and Walsh reported the clinical success on complete mandibular dentures with application of neutral zone concept. A number of studies demonstrated that denture stability and retention are more dependent on correct position of the teeth and correct contour of external surfaces of the denture in a severely resorbed alveolar ridge. This article presents a prosthodontic approach to treatment of a edentulous patient using neutral zone technique to improve the retention and stability of the prosthesis.
