By the use of a similar numerical method as that in the previous paper, the forming limit strain of bonded sheet metals is investigated, in which the FEM is applied and J2G(J2-Gotoh's corner theory) is utilized as the plasticity constitutive equation. Bonded two-layer sheets and sheets bonded with dissimilar sheets on both surface planes are stretched in a plane-strain state, with various work-hardening exponent n-values and thicknesses of each layer. Processes of shear-band formation in such composite sheets are clearly illustrated. It is concluded that, in the bonded state, the higher limiting strain of one layer is reduced due to the lower limiting strain of the other layer and vice versa, and does not necessarily obey the rule of linear combination of the limiting strain of each layer weighted according thickness.
The study of the mechanical behavior of rockfill materials under three-dimensional loading conditions is a current research focus area. This paper presents a microscale numerical study of rockfill deformation and strength characteristics using the Combined Finite-Discrete Element Method (FDEM). Two features unique to this study are the consideration of irregular particle shapes and particle crushability. A polydisperse assembly of irregular polyhedra was prepared to reproduce the mechanical behavior of rockfill materials subjected to axial compression at a constant mean stress for a range of intermediate principal stress ratios in the interval [0, 1]. The simulation results, including the stress-strain characteristics, relationship between principal strains, and principal deviator strains are discussed. The stress-dilatancy behavior is described using a linear dilatancy equation with its material constants varying with the intermediate principal stress ratio. The failure surface in the principal stress space and its traces in the deviatoric and meridian plane are also presented. The modified Lade-Duncan criterion most closely describes the stress points at failure.
The shrinkage rate of solid state sintering has been theoretically derived by combining the rate equation of material transport and the net free energy change resulting from the decrease of solid-vapor interface and the increase of grain boundary during sintering. For a sinteing model an idealized situation of the spherical particles with BCC packing was taken as the initial condition and the shrinkage was assumed to occur by forming the flat circualr grain boundaries on each particle. The plotted shrinkage rates as a function of grain boundary to surface energy ratio $(gamma_g/gamma_s)$ have shown that the relative density increases linearly at the initial stage of sintering but the shrinkage rate is decreased upon further sintering due to a decrease in driving force for densificaton. It has been also shown that the densification is critically affected by the $gamma_g/gamma_s$ ratio. In order to get the complete densificatin the ratio should be less than $sqrt{3}$. Any additive or atmospheric condition causing the decrease of$_g/gamma_s$ ratio will enhance sintering.
In order to increase the dissolution rate of furosemide(4-choro-N-furfury1-5-sulfamoy1 anthranilic acid_, various ratio coprecipitates with water-soluble polymers, such as polyvinylpyrrolidone and polythylene glycol, of different molecular weight, were prepared and quantitatively studied by comparing their dissolution characteristics of furosemide at powder state and at nondisintegrating disk state containing constant surface area at various temperatures and rotating velocities. The dissolution characteristics of furosemide from pure furosemide disks and 1:2(w/w) furosemide-PVP coprecipitate disks were in accordance with Noyes-Nernst equation and the rate constant of dissolution was proportional to the square root of rotating velocity of the disks. The intrinsic rate of dissoluton at 150 rpm, 37.deg.C was $2.21{\times}10^{-7}$ for the PVP 10, 000 COPRECIPITATE, $1.64{\times}10^{-7}$ for the PVP 40, 000 coprecipitate, and$ 1.44 {\times} 10^{-7}$for the PVP 360, 000 corprecipitate, while the rate was $1.27{\times}10^{-8}M/cm^{2} min$ for pure furosemide, repectively. The activation energy of dissolution was about 17, 000 for furosemide and about 7, 300 cal/mole for the 1:2 furosemide PVP 40, 000 coprecipitate, respectively.
This paper presents results of modeling of the passive contaminant diffusion from a continuous line finite-size source located on the underlying surface of a neutral near-ground atmospheric layer obtained by using the non-local two-parameteric turbulence model and the transport equation of mean concentration. In the proposed diffusion model the turbulent diffusion coefficient changes not only with the vertical coordinate but also with the distance downstream from the source according to the experimental data. The results of the modeling reproduce structural features of the concentration field.
In this paper, physical phenomena which are related to the high temperature and high pressure arc plasma generated during the fault current interruption by SF6 gas circuit breakers are reviewed. In particular, in order to analyze nozzle ablation induced by the heats transferred to the surface of the poly-tetrafluoroethylene(PTFE) nozzle through arc radiation, a governing equation for the calculation of PTFE concentration is added to the governing equations for SF6 arc Plasma analysis. The proposed method is applied to the steady state analysis of $SF_6$ arc plasma generated by direct current taking account of the nozzle ablation and the results are presented.
Explosive evaporative removal process of biological tissue by absorption of a CW laser has been simulated by using gelatin and a multimode Nd: YAG laser. Because the point of maximun temperature of laser-irradiated gelatin exists below the surface due to surface cooling, evaporation at the boiling temperature is made explosively from below the surface. The important parameters of this process are the conduction loss to laser power absorption (defined as the conduction-to-laser power parameter, Nk), the convection heat transfer at the surface to conduction loss (defined as Bi), dimensionless extinction coefficient (defined as BrJ, and dimensionless irradiation time (defined as Fo). Dependence of Fo on Nk and Bi has been observed by experiment, and the results have been compared with the numerical results obtained by solving a 2-dimensional conduction equation. Fo and explosion depth (from the surface to the point of maximun temperature) are increased when Nk and Bi are increased. To find out the minimum laser power for explosive evaporative removal process, steady state analysis has been also made. The limit of Nk to induce evaporative removal, which is proportional to the inverse of the laser power, has been obtained.

The low-cycle fatigue performance and fracture of the P/M Ti-Fe-Mo-Al-Nd Alloys after sintering and forging have been studied. The linear regression equation of low-cycle fatigue lifetime has been obtained; the fatigue performances are objected under two different conditions. The fatigue fracture surface is analyzed by SEM. The low-cycle fatigue behavior of the P/M titanium alloy has been discussed.
