광소자로 사용되는 ZnTe박박의 결정성에 따른 결함 관찰 (Crystallinity and Internal Defect Observation of the ZnTe Thin Film Used by Opto-Electronic Sensor Material)

  • ZnTe films have been grown on (100) GaAs substrate with two representative problems. The one is lattice mismatch, the other is thermal expansion coefficients mismatch of ZnTe /GaAs. It claims here, the relationship of film thickness and defects distribution with (100) ZnTe/GaAs using hot wall epitaxy (HWE) growth was investigated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). It analyzed on the two-sort side using TEM with cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy (XTEM) and high-resolution electron microscopy (HREM). Investigation into the nature and behavior of dislocations with dependence-thickness in (100) ZnTe/ (100) GaAs hetero-structures grown by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). This defects range from interface to 0.7 $\mu\textrm{m}$ was high density, due to the large lattice mismatch and thermal expansion coefficients. The defects of low density was range 0.7$\mu\textrm{m}$~1.8$\mu\textrm{m}$. In the thicker range than 1.8$\mu\textrm{m}$ was measured hardly defects.

  • The metal forming behavior and defect formation in Ti-6Al-4V tube during hot backward extrusion were investigated. Dynamic material model(DMM) including Ziegler's instability criterion was employed to predict the forming defects such as shear band, inner and/or surface cracks. This approach was coupled to the internal variables generated from FE analysis. The simulation results fur the backward extrusion were compared with the experimental observation. The chilling effect and friction indicated a great influence on the deformation mode of the tube and the formation of surface cracks. The formation of forming defects in the extruded tube was attributed to non-uniform distribution of strain, strain rate and temperatures in the extruded tubes for the given test conditions.

  • It is important to know SIze distribution of defects In electroplated trivalent chrome layers because it significantly influences on performance of the layers. Most of the nano-scale defects are able to be introduced by hydrogen evolution during the plating. Little information is available on the nano-size defects. In this study, SANS was applied to determine the size distribution of nano-scale defects in the trivalent chrome layers prepared in a formate bath. The defect size and distribution was dependent upon plating conditions such as current density and applied voltage. SANS is one of useful techniques to determine the nano-scale defect in the electroplated layers.

  • Rails are subjected to damage from rolling contact fatigue, which leads to defects such as cracks. Rolling contact fatigue damages on the surface of rail such as head check, squats are one of growing problems. Another form of rail surface damage, known as "Ballast imprint" has become apparent. This form of damage is associated with ballast particles becoming trapped between the wheel and the surface of rail. These defects are still one of the key reasons for rail maintenance and replacement. In this study, we have investigated whether the ballast imprint is an initiator of head check type cracks and effect of defect size using Finite element analysis. The FE analysis were used to investigate stresses and strains in subsurface of defects according to variation of defect size. Based on loading cycles obtained from FE analysis, fatigue analysis for each point was carried out.

  • A modeling of the nucleation and dynamical behavior of defects from an inhomogeneous surface configuration using fast Q-tensor method is realized. On modeling the defect nucleation and dynamics, A fast Q-tensor method is applied. From the numerical modeling, we confirmed that surface inhomogeneity which makes strong strain energy in the local liquid crystal director field could cause defects. Experimental result has compared with numerical modeling in order to verify the simulation of the defect nucleation.

저잔사 플럭스를 사용한 플로우 솔더링부의 젖음성 및 결함거동에 관한 연구 (A Study on Wettability and Defects Behavior of Flow-soldered Joint using Low Residue Flux)

  • Effects of non-cleaning and cleaning fluxes on the wetting properties and defects at flow soldered joints were investigated. Non-cleaning flux (R-type of 3.3% solid content) and cleaning flux (RMA-type of 15% solid content) were used. Wetting test was accomplished by wetting balance method with changing surface state of wetting specimen, CU. Sn-37%Pb solder was used for wetting test and flow soldering. As experimental results, the wetting time for vertical force from the surface tension being zero was mainly affected by surface state of the wetting specimen. Non-cleaning flux had a good wettability compared with cleaning flux. In case of non-cleaning flux, conveyor speed had a great affection to defects of bridge, icicle, and poor solder.

  • The importance of maintenance of rail surface defects is increasing more according to the KTX operation. That is because during high speed operation of rolling stock, rail surface defects may cause shortened fatigue life of rail, acceleration of track degradation and reduced ride comfort. The paper was intended to study the establishment of rail grinding criteria of high-speed railway lines considering the KTX operation circumstances. For this, the specimens of UIC 60 rail on Kyeong-Bu high-speed operation lines were collected and they were analyzed for metallographic structure and tested for the hardness. By analyzing the test results to the factors affecting the RCF causing the defects of rail surface, the study suggested the rail grinding criteria of the domestic high speed railway lines. As the factors affecting RCF, passing tonnage, running speed and track condition are considered.

  • Thixoforming process has been accepted as a new method for fabricating near net shaped products with lighweight aluminum alloys. The thixoforming process consists of reheating process of billet, billet handing filling into the die cavity and solidification of thixoformed part,. in this paper the thixoforming experiments are performed with two different die temperature ({{{{ TAU _d}}}}=20$0^{\circ}C$ 30$0^{\circ}C$) and orifice gate type. The microstructures of SSM(357, A490 and ALTHIX 86S) fabricated in thixoforming process are evaluated in therms of globularization and grain size. effect of alloying elements onthe surface and internal defects is investigated. Finally the methods to obtain the thixoformed products with good mechanical propertis are proposed by solution for avoiding the surface and internal defects.

Symmetry and depth-dependent orders of subsurface defects in Mn-doped Sb(111) studied by using STM

  • Sb(111) is a spin textured surface due to the strong spin-orbit coupling, often viewed as a proto-type topological insulator. We used scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) to characterize various Mn-induced subsurface defects existing at the surface of Mn-doped Sb at 50 K. Our STM images show that every defect exhibits 3-fold symmetry with a single rotational orientation and can be categorized by their shapes and sizes. We found more than 10 types of subsurface defects with distinctive orders, which allows the resolution of the vertical positions of the magnetic dopants lying more than 10 layers down from the surface. We will discuss about our findings in comparison with theoretical results.

  • A new neural network classifier is proposed for the automatic real-time surface inspection of high-speed cold steel strips having 11 different types of defects. 46 geometrical and gray-level features are extracted for the defect classification. 3241 samples of Posco's Kwangyang steel factory are used for training and testing the neural network classifier. The developed classifier produces plausible 15% error rate which is much better than 20-30% error rate of human vision inspection adopted in most of domestic steel factories.
