A GPS-drifter was newly designed to observe the sea surface skin current and to estimate the direct wind effect on the sea surface. After conducting a test to establish and verify the accuracy of the GPS itself in the laboratory, in-situ experimental campaigns at Saemangeum in Gunsan city and Haeundae in Busan city, Korea, were carried out to ascertain the drifter track and to estimate the velocity data set on Oct. 3, 15, 23, 27 and Nov. 25, 2011. The current meters, RCM9 and ADCP, were moored together to remove the background current field, and the wind data were obtained from several marine stations such as towers and buoys in these areas. The drifter-observed velocity show good agreement with the flow obtained by the HF radar in the Saemangeum area. The direction of the wind-driven current extracted from the drifter-observed velocity was completely deflected to the right, however the degree of the angle was different according to the drift types. The average speed of the wind-driven current matched with 2.19~2.81% of the wind speed and the deflection angle was about $8.0{\sim}10.9^{\circ}$ without adjustment for the land-sea effect, and about 2.19~2.84% and $4.1{\sim}6.0^{\circ}$ with the adjustment for the land-sea effect.

This research investigated the relationship between the corrosion damage characteristics of offshore wind steel substructure and the time of current density application by electrochemical accelerated short-term corrosion test. The galvanostatic corrosion was conducted on the steel specimens in natural seawater with a constant current density ranging from $1mA/cm^2$ to $200mA/cm^2$ for 1 ~ 180 min. Macro and micro observation was carried out on the surface of the corrosion damaged area using SEM and 3-dimensional analysis microscope. The weight loss of the specimens before and after was calculated as the difference between the initial weight prior to corrosion and weight after removal of the corrosion product. It was shown that during galvanostaic corrosion process, the corrosion behavior could be characterized by the onset of pitting corrosion in the early stage and the uniform corrosion in the late stage, showing damage development in the depth direction with the time of current application. The result of the 3D analysis revealed that both damage depth and surface roughness increased with increasing time of current application. The weight loss curves with time showed that a coefficient of determination ($R^2$) was relatively high for the relationship between the time of current application and weight loss. As a result, the degree of corrosion can be controlled by simply varying the time of current application.
Application of fuel cell to produce renewable energy for commercial purpose is limited by the high cost of Pt based electrode materials. Development of inexpensive, high energetic electrode is the need of the hour to produce pollution free energy using bio-fuel through a fuel cell. Ni-Cu and Ni-CeO2-Cu electrode materials, electro synthesized by pulse current have been developed. The surface morphology of the electrode materials is controlled by different deposition parameters in order to produce a high current from the electro-oxidation of the fuel, the ethanol. The developed materials are electrochemically characterized by Cyclic Voltammetry (CV), Chronoamperometry (CA) and Potentiodynamic polarization tests. The results confirm that the high current is due to their enhanced catalytic properties viz. high exchange current density (i0), low polarization resistance (Rp) and low impedance. It is worthwhile to mention here that the addition of CeO2 to Ni-Cu has outperformed Pt as far as the high electro catalytic properties are concerned; the exchange current density is about eight times higher than the same on Pt surface. The morphology of the electrode surface examined by SEM and FESEM exhibits that the grains are narrow and sub spherical with 3D surface, containing vacancies in between the elongated grains. The fact has enhanced more surface area for electro oxidation of the fuel, giving rise to an increase in current. Presence of Ni, CeO2, and Cu is confirmed by the XRD and EDXS. Fuel cell fabricated with Ni-CeO2-Cu material electrode is expected to produce clean electrical energy at cheaper rates than conventional one, using bio fuel the derived from biomass.
In this research, the primary factors affected to the formation of lake current of surface layer and thermal stratification of temperate lake have been analyzed, the daily change of water temperature, relationship with lake current and the research about the elements of meteorological phenomenon have been implemented. As a result, the lake current of surface layer occurring while the period of thermal stratification is showing the proportional difference of water temperature, thermal exchange caused by this has been known as the main energy source, and this is, secondly, considering as the interaction of the wind driven current by the prevailing wind. On the other hand, during the night time when the water surface is cooled, and it is considering as the vertical convection is occurring than horizontal circumfluence. Also, there exists the water mass, which is circumfluent counterclockwise and clockwise direction separately. The prevailing md is rather affected to the moving direction and moving speed of water mass, but it doesn't affect to the whole flowing direction.
In the evaluation of aging degradation on the structural materials based on the fracture mechanics, the detection and size prediction of defect are very important. Aiming at nondestructive detection and size prediction ol defect with high accuracy and resolution, therefore, an lnduced Current Focusing Potential Drop(ICFPD) technique has been developed. The principle of this technique is to induce a focusing current at an exploratory region by an induction wire flowing an alternating current(AC) that is a constant ampere and frequency. Defects are assessed with the potential drops that are measured the induced current on the surface of metallic material by the potential pick-up pins. In this study, the lCFPD technique was applied for evaluating the location and size of the surface crack and blind crack made in plate specimens, and also for detecting the defects existing in valve, a field component, that were developed by SCC etc. during the service. The results of this present study show that surface crack and blind crack are able to defect with potential drop. these cracks are distinguished with the distribution of potential drop, and the crack depths can be estimated with each normalized potential drop that are parameters estimating the depth of each type crack. In the field component, the defects estimated by experiment result correspond with those in the cutting face of the measuring point within a higher sensitivity.

Chromium-carbon (Cr-C) and chromium-carbon-phosphorus (Cr-C-P) alloy deposits using trivalent chromium sulfate baths containing potassium formate were prepared to study their current efficiency, hardness change and phase transformations behavior with heat treatment, respectively. The current efficiencies of Cr-C and Cr-C-P alloy deposits increase with increasing current density in the range of 15-35 A/dm$^2$. Carbon content of Cr-C and phosphorous of Cr-C-P layers decreases with increasing current density, whereas, the carbon content of Cr-C-P layer is almost constant with the current density. Cr-C deposit shows crystallization at $400^{\circ}C$ and has (Cr+Cr$_{ 23}$$C_{6}$) phases at $800^{\circ}C$. Cr-C-P deposit shows crystallization at $600^{\circ}C$ and has (Cr+Cr$_{23}$$C_{6}$$+Cr_3$P) phases at $800^{\circ}C$. The hardness of Cr-C and Cr-C-P deposits after heating treatment for one hour increase up to Hv 1640 and Hv 1540 and decrease about Hv 820 and Hv 1270 with increasing annealing temperature in the range of $400~^{\circ}C$, respectively. The hardness change with annealing is due to the order of occurring of chromium crystallization, precipitation hardening effect, softening and grain growth with temperature. Less decrease of hardness of Cr-C-P deposit after annealing above $700^{\circ}C$ is related to continuous precipitation of $Cr_{23}$$C_{6}$ and $Cr_3$P phases which retard grain growth at the temperature.

The effects of high-temperature process required to fabricate the SiC devices on the surface morphology and the electrical characteristics were investigated for 4H-SiC Schottky diodes. The 4H-SiC diodes without a graphite cap layer as a protection layer showed catastrophic increase in an excess current at a forward bias and a leakage current at a reverse bias after high-temperature annealing process. Moreover it seemed to deviate from the conventional Schottky characteristics and to operate as an ohmic contact at the low bias regime. However, the 4H-SiC diodes with the graphite cap still exhibited their good electrical characteristics in spite of a slight increase in the leakage current. Therefore, we found that the graphite cap layer serves well as the protection layer of silicon carbide surface during high-temperature annealing. Based on a closer analysis on electric characteristics, a conductive surface transfiguration layer was suspected to form on the surface of diodes without the graphite cap layer during high-temperature annealing. After removing the surface transfiguration layer using ICP-RIE, Schottky diode without the graphite cap layer and having poor electrical characteristics showed a dramatic improvement in its characteristics including the ideality factor[${\eta}$] of 1.23, the schottky barrier height[${\Phi}$] of 1.39 eV, and the leakage current of $7.75\{times}10^{-8}\;A/cm^{2}$ at the reverse bias of -10 V.
The removal of turbidity from $TiO_2$ wastewater by an electrocoagulation/flotation process was studied in a batch reactor. The response surface methodology (RSM) was applied to evaluate the simple and combined effects of the three main independent parameters, current, NaCl dosage and initial pH of the $TiO_2$ solution on the turbidity removal efficiency, and to optimize the operating conditions of the treatment process. The reaction of electrocoagulation/flotation was modeled by use of the Box-Behnken method, which was used for the fitting of a 2nd order response surface model. The application of RSM yielded the following regression equation, which is an empirical relationship between the turbidity removal efficiency of $TiO_2$ wastewater and test variables in uncoded unit: Turbidity removal (%)=69.76+59.76Current+11.98NaCl+4.67pH+5.00Current${\times}$pH-160.11$Current^2-0.34pH^2$. The optimum current, NaCl dosage and pH of the $TiO_2$ solution to reach maximum removal rates were found to be 0.186 A, 0.161 g/l and 7.599, respectively. This study clearly showed that response surface methodology was one of the most suitable method to optimize the operating conditions for maximizing the turbidity removal. Graphical response surface and contour plots were used to locate the optimum point.

In this study, nonlinear wave interaction in the presence of a uniform current is studied using numerical model, named CADMAS-SURF which is based on the Navier-Stokes equations coupled with Volume of Fluid for tracking free surface deformation. The original CADMAS-SURF developed for interaction of wave with structure is modified/extended to simulate nonlinear fluid dynamic motions within wave-current coexisting field. The capability of Numerical Wave-Current Tank (NWCT) in this study is validated by comparing with available existing laboratory experiments for both wave-following and wave-opposing current. The numerical results for interaction between wave and current are shown to be in good agreement with experimental data. Then, this study focused on the dynamic motions of the water velocity, surface elevation and vorticity within combined wave-current field in demonstrating complex nonlinear physical phenomena due to interaction between wave and current. In addition, NWCT is applied to simulate a more complex wave-current-structure field for wave propagating over a submerged breakwater associated with current. Detailed discussion including characteristics of velocity and vorticity fields and the relation between free surface and vorticity are given.
Nickel plating thickness increased with the electric current density, and the augmentation was more thick in $6{\sim}10A/dm^2$ than low current. Hull-cell analysis was tested to evaluate the current density. Optimum thickness was obtained at a temperature of $60^{\circ}C$, and the pH fluctuation of 3.5~4.0. Over the Nickel ion concentration of 300 g/L, plating thickness increased with the current density. The rate of decrease in nickel ion concentration was increased with the current density. The quantity of plating electro-deposition was increased at the anode surface, which was correlated with the increase of plating thickness. The plating thickness was increased because of the quick plating speed. However, the condition of the plating surface becomes irregular and the minuteness of nickel plating layer was reduced with the plating rate. After the corrosion test of 25 h, it was resulted in that maintaining low electric current density is desirable for the excellent corrosion resistance in lustered nickel plating. According to the program simulation, the thickness of diffusion layer was increased and the concentration of anode surface was lowered for the higher current densities. The concentration profile showed the regular distribution at low electric current density. The field plating process was controlled by the electric current density and the plating thickness instead of plating time for the productivity. The surface physical property of plating structure or corrosion resistance was excellent in the case of low electric current density.
