  • It is critical for radiant floor cooling system using Ondol to cause condensation on a floor surface. To solve this problem, a radiant floor cooling system integrated with dehumidification was proposed and evaluated in terms of its applicability and prevention of condensation. Therresults show that the proposed system of radiant floor cooling integrated with dehumidification properly maintained the indoor setpoint temperatures and prevented the condensation on a floor surface. To achieve more stable indoor temperatures and humidity control, a further study for the operation of dehumidification panel will be needed.

  • Internal ring beams are primary components of new ring-stiffened cooling towers. In this study, numerical simulation of the internal flow field of a cooling tower with three ring beams under wind-thermal coupling effect is performed. The studied cooling tower is a 220-m super-large hyperbolic indirect natural draft cooling tower that is under construction in China and will be the World's highest cooling tower, the influence of peripheral radiators in operating cooling tower is also considered. Based on the simulation, the three-dimensional effect and distribution pattern of the wind loads on inner surface of the cooling tower is summarized, the average wind pressure distributions on the inner surface before and after the addition of the ring beams are analyzed, and the influence pattern of ring beams on the internal pressure coefficient value is derived. The action mechanisms behind the air flows inside the tower are compared. In addition, the effects of internal ring beams on temperature field characteristics, turbulence kinetic energy distribution, and wind resistance are analyzed. Finally, the internal pressure coefficients are suggested for ring-stiffened cooling towers under wind-thermal coupling effect. The study shows that the influence of internal stiffening ring beams on the internal pressure and flow of cooling towers should not be ignored, and the wind-thermal coupling effect should also be considered in the numerical simulation of cooling tower flow fields. The primary conclusions presented in this paper offer references for determining the internal suction of such ring-stiffened cooling towers.

  • This paper presents the results of experimental investigation for the effect of heat conduction on the evaporation cooling of water droplet in the process of heat treatment. The experiments are mainly focused on the surface temperature, the surface roughness and the droplet diameter at aluminum. The range of surface temperature is from $80^{\circ}C$ to $140^{\circ}C$, surface roughness is from $R_a=0.18{\mu}m$ to $R_a=1.36{\mu}m$ and droplet diameter is from 2.4 mm to 3.0 mm. The results show that the total evaporation time is shorter for the larger surface roughness, the time averaged heat flux has maximum value for the larger surface roughness and exist the critical heat flux. The total evaporation time has a big influence on the evaporation region for the smaller droplet size, but the total evaporation time has not influence on the nuclear boiling region.

  • Nowadays, the touch screen panel (TSP) cover glass for mobile smart devices is being developed with a curved glass shape due to different design requirements. Because the sizes of mobile smart devices continue to increase, there has also been a great increase in the demand for large-area curved glass greater than 20 inches. In this study, heat and fluid flow analysis using CFD was performed to optimize the heating surface temperature distribution of the large curved glass formation system. Five cooling water flow paths in the cooling block were designed and analyzed for each case. A function that can quantitatively calculate the temperature uniformity of the heating surface was proposed and these values were obtained for the five models. The temperature distributions of the heating surface and the energy consumption of the heating system were also compared and comprehensively analyzed. Based on the analysis results of the five different cooling channel path models, the optimal path design could be presented.

  • Ice adhesion or cohesion leads to the decrease of the performance of ice making system, especially to dynamic type ice thermal storage system (DISS) which mainly forms ice from the flow of an aqueous solution. The ice adhesion is influenced by various parameters associated with operating or geometric condition. In this study, the influence on an adhesion of ice to the characteristic of cooling surface and to composition of an aqueous solution was fundamentally observed by using batch type cooling device,. a beaker. Three patterns of solution in each beaker were cooled with brine. Moreover, the characteristic of cooling surface on each beaker was distinguished to coating materials. Stirring power as a degree of the ice adhesion was measured. The stirring power to cooling heat transfer rate in each beaker was compared. As a result, the lowest stirring power of 8.9 W with non-adhesion of ice, was shown in the case of the aqueous solution of EG(4) + PG(1.5) + 1,6HD(1.5). in PE coating beaker.

  • The first stage rotating blade of industrial gas turbine is one of the components that is normally run in exposed state at the highest temperature of the combustion gas stream. For this reason superior materials and advanced cooling technology are required to allow higher heat resisting characteristics of the component. The 1st stage blade of a selected commercial gas turbine blade made of directionally solidified Ni-based superalloy has a row of cooling holes on its trailing edge. In most cases, minor cracks have been found at some of the root cooling holes after one cycle operation (24,000 hrs) or even shorter operation time because of the high temperature gradient and the frequently alternating thermal stress. In the repair process, unfortunately, it is usually very difficult to get rid of the damage due to the fact that cracks are initiated at the root cooling hole and propagated deep into the hole. In this study, the feasibility of removing the sidewall cracks in the hole by utilizing EDM drilling has been investigated. Also the criteria of surface integrity for EDM drilling were established to achieve high quality repair as well as machining accuracy.

  • The objective of this study is to analyze the cooling performance of an air- cooling system for telecommunication equipment. Temperature variation and capacity were measured in an actual unit for telecommunication equipment. In addition, the cooling performance was measured by installing a silicon rubber heater as a heat source in a cabinet. The standard thermal load for telecommunication equipment was approximately 293 W, and the maximum temperature of the heated surface was $64.5^{\circ}C$. The average and maximum temperatures of the heated surface were proportional to the inlet air temperature. When the heat load increased from 293 W to 400 W, the maximum temperature of the heated surface was higher than $64.5^{\circ}C$ even though the inlet air temperature decreased from 25 to $11^{\circ}C$.

  • An experimental study of heat transfer from hot flat surface to water sprays was conducted in high temperature region. Heat transfer measurements for hot flat surface were made by 4 sheathed C-A thermocouples. Droplets volume flux were also measured-independently at a position in spray field. The test conditions included variations in droplets volume flux, subcooling of cooling water of $1.565\times10^{-3} to 14.089\times10^{-3}m^3/m^2s and 80 to $20^{\circ}C$ respectively. The effects of inclination angle on heat transfer were investigated and changes in inclination angle of hot flat surface affected heat transfer coefficients of high temperature region.

  • A three-dimensional primitive equation model (POM) and the buoy data (2900 N, 13500 E) from the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) for 27 typhoons between 1982 and 2000 are used to investigate the sea surface cooling (SSC) that accompanies typhoons in the northwestern Pacific. Observed sea surface temperatures (SSTs) rapidly drop 0.6 to 4.3 C, and SSC continues for several weeks after the passage of a typhoon. The model, which covers most of the northwestern Pacific ($24^{\circ}N$ to $52^{\circ}N$), simulated Typhoon Abby over the tropical Pacific, and successfully reproduces many observed features, including the pattern of SST decrease, inertial oscillations, etc. The model accurately simulated the SSC process, suggesting that the cyclonic eddy with a radius of a few hundred kilometers that trailed Typhoon Abby plays an important role in SSC.

  • After hot rolling, a high-temperature steel plate with a temperature higher than $800^{\circ}C$ is rapidly cooled by multiple circular water jets. In this cooling process, because the temperature of the steel plate is much higher than the boiling point of the cooling water, film-boiling heat transfer occurs and a very thin steam layer forms between the plate surface and the cooling water. The steam layer acts as a thermal resistance that prevents heat transfer between the cooling water and the steel plate. In addition to the film-boiling heat transfer, complex physical phenomena such as the free-surface flow of residual water that accumulated on the material and the material's high-speed motion also occur in the cooling process. In this study, the simultaneous cooling process of the upper and lower sides of a running hot steel strip is investigated using a three-dimensional numerical model and the cooling performances and characteristics of the upper-side cooling and lower-side cooling are compared.
