A Study of Manhole Bursting due to Surcharged Flow in Large Sewer System (대규모 간선에 있어서 써차지 흐름에 동반되는 맨홀뚜껑 비산현상에 관한 연구)

  • The mechanism of manhole bursting which occurs at excess rainfall events Is studied by using both the physical model and the numerical model (SWMM ; Storm Water Management Model). The result of numerical simulation to steep pressure rising agrees well with that of the physical model at the sewer system under surcharged flow. A cause of manhole bursting is an expansion and spout of the condensed all at manhole that results from the surcharged flow and press wave propagation caused by gate operation or closure of conduit at pumping station.

  • PET aggregates were produced by mixing heated PET flakes with frictional soils. Using these artificially-made PET aggregates, horizontal drain tests in the laboratory, pilot scale model tests were conducted for the evaluation of the drainage characteristics of PET aggregates. Laboratory horizontal drain tests were conducted under twenty different conditions varying mixing ratios and surcharged pressures. Moreover, by utilizing the aggregates with a mixing ratio producing the lowest variation in terms of permeability against applied load, large scale tests were performed. Reliability of the test results was evaluated from comparison with the results of the laboratory horizontal drain test.

  • The stability of urban railway foundation can be a problem due to the excessive settlement. The settlement at the base of railway is monitored by the installed settlement gauges. The piezometer and pore water pressure measurement device are installed to measure the variation of pore water pressure and ground water table during the continuous pullout of sheet piles which were used for the braced cut. The settlement of railway is predicted with using the computer program CAIN RDA. The input data for the numerical analysis are obtained from the field soil exploration data and soil properties. The surcharged load from landscaping over the ground surface and the weight of train are taken into account for the estimation of settlement. As a result of numerical analysis, the range of settlement for six different Sites is from 5.94 cm to 12.77 cm. Thus, the settlement level at Site 2 is occurred 12.77 cm which is higher than the allowable settlement of 10 cm.
