  • In the air power, UAVs have played a large and diversified role in performing missions from simple to high-level complex ones. In particular, the suppression of enemy air defenses(SEAD) is very dangerous for a pilot so it is expected that the manned-unmanned teaming(MUM-T) system with tailless stealthy unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV) will greatly enhance effectiveness of the mission while ensuring the pilot safe. This paper describes simulation studies of remote airborne control(RAC) environment for performing the SEAD mission by MUM-T, by which the air force pilot remotely controls tailless UAVs individually or small UAVs in swarm. Through this simulation, air force pilot can derive the concept of MUM-T mission operation with various UAVs in the future, and it can be used to upgrade the MUM-T system by verifying the effectiveness of the mission.

  • In recent warfare, the performance improvement of air weapon systems enables an aircraft to strike multiple targets on a single sortie. Further, aircrafts attacking targets may carry out an operation as a strike package that is composed of bombers, escort aircrafts, SEAD (Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses) aircrafts and etc. In this paper, we present an aircraft allocation model that allocates multiple targets to a single sortie in the form of a strike package. A mixed integer programming is developed and solved by using a commercially available software. The new model is better than existing ones because not only it allocates aircrafts to multiple targets but also it models the concept of the strike package. We perform a computational experiment to compare the result of the new model with that of existing ones, and perform sensitivity analysis by varying a couple of important parameters.

  • Cooperative systems among various unmanned vehicles are widely used in various field and emerging. Unmanned vehicles are able to operate various missions without operator onboard and they are highly stable. Collaborative work of multiple unmanned vehicles is emphasized due to the difficulty of recent missions such as SEAD (Suppression of the Enemy Air Defenses), MUSIC (Manned Unmanned Systems Integration Capability), goldentime in the rescue mission. In this study, ROS and Pixhawk were proposed as a method of construction of a collaboration system and framework for an integrated simulation environment for heterogeneous unmanned vehicles is proposed. Totally 5 unmanned vehicles were set for the simulation for the observation of illegal fishing boats. This paper shows the feasibility of the cooperative system using ROS and Pixhawk through the simulation and the experiment.

  • Although the SEAD(suppression to enemy air defenses) mission is a strategically important task in modern warfare, the high risk of direct exposure to enemy air defense assets forces to use of unmanned aerial vehicles. this paper proposes a path planning algorithm for SEAD mission for an unmanned aerial vehicle and a method for calculating the mission effectiveness on the planned path. Based on the RRT-based path planning algorithm, a low-altitude ingress/egress flight path that can consider the enemy's short-range air defense threat was generated. The Dubins path-based Intercept path planning technique was used to generate a path that is the shortest path while avoiding the enemy's short-range anti-aircraft threat as much as possible. The ingress/intercept/egress paths were connected in order. In addition, mission effectiveness consisting of fuel consumption, the survival probability, the time required to perform the mission, and the target destruction probability was calculated based on the generated path. The proposed techniques were verified through a scenario.
