While Modern Standard Arabic is the formal spoken and written language of the Arab world; dialects are the major communication mode for everyday life. Therefore, identifying a speaker's dialect is critical in the Arabic-speaking world for speech processing tasks, such as automatic speech recognition or identification. In this paper, we examine two approaches that reduce the Universal Background Model (UBM) in the automatic dialect identification system across the five following Arabic Maghreb dialects: Moroccan, Tunisian, and 3 dialects of the western (Oranian), central (Algiersian), and eastern (Constantinian) regions of Algeria. We applied our approaches to the Maghreb dialect detection domain that contains a collection of 10-second utterances and we compared the performance precision gained against the dialect samples from a baseline GMM-UBM system and the ones from our own improved GMM-UBM system that uses a Reduced UBM algorithm. Our experiments show that our approaches significantly improve identification performance over purely acoustic features with an identification rate of 80.49%.
Promoter prediction is a very important problem and is closely related to the main problems of bioinformatics such as the construction of gene regulatory networks and gene function annotation. In this context, we developed an integrated promoter prediction program using hybrid methods, PromoterWizard, which can be employed to detect the core promoter region and the transcription start site (TSS) in vertebrate genomic DNA sequences, an issue of obvious importance for genome annotation efforts. PromoterWizard consists of three main modules and two auxiliary modules. The three main modules include CDRM (Composite Dependency Reflecting Model) module, SVM (Support Vector Machine) module, and ICM (Interpolated Context Model) module. The two auxiliary modules are CpG Island Detector and GCPlot that may contribute to improving the predictive accuracy of the three main modules and facilitating human curator to decide on the final annotation.
In this paper we proposes a new technique for identification of breast cancer by classification of proteome pattern generated from 2-D polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (2-D PAGE) and development of cancer diagnosis system : HABIT. Proteome patterns reflect the underlying pathological state of a human organ and it is believed that the anomalies or diseases of human organs are identified by the analysis or classification of the patterns. Proteome patterns consist of quantitative information of the spots such as their size, position, and density in the proteome image produced from 2-D PAGE, for the Image mining of proteome pattern, SVM(support vector machine) and GA(genetic algorithm) are used to generate a decision model for the identification of breast cancer The decision model was then used to classify an independent set of test proteome patterns into the affecter and unaffecter classes. The proposed technique was tested by actual clinical test samples and showed a good performance of a hit ratio of 90%.
Considering the high dimensions of video sequences, it is often challenging to acquire a sufficient dataset to train the tracking models. From this perspective, we propose to revisit the idea of hand-crafted feature learning to avoid such a requirement from a dataset. The proposed tracking approach is composed of two phases, detection and tracking, according to how severely the appearance of a target changes. The detection phase addresses severe and rapid variations by learning a new appearance model that classifies the pixels into foreground (or target) and background. We further combine the raw pixel features of the color intensity and spatial location with convolutional feature activations for robust target representation. The tracking phase tracks a target by searching for frame regions where the best pixel-level agreement to the model learned from the detection phase is achieved. Our two-phase approach results in efficient and accurate tracking, outperforming recent methods in various challenging cases of target appearance changes.
The most widely used parameter to represent rock abrasiveness is the Cerchar abrasivity index (CAI). The CAI value can be applied to predict wear in TBM cutters. It has been extensively demonstrated that the CAI is affected significantly by cementation degree, strength, and amount of abrasive minerals, i.e., the quartz content or equivalent quartz content in rocks. The relationship between the properties of rocks and the CAI is investigated in this study. A database comprising 223 observations that includes rock types, uniaxial compressive strengths, Brazilian tensile strengths, equivalent quartz contents, quartz contents, brittleness indices, and CAIs is constructed. A linear model is developed by selecting independent variables while considering multicollinearity after performing multiple regression analyses. Machine learning-based regression methods including support vector regression, regression tree regression, k-nearest neighbors regression, random forest regression, and artificial neural network regression are used in addition to multiple linear regression. The results of the random forest regression model show that it yields the best prediction performance.
This study presents an innovative AI-driven approach to assess the ultimate axial load in Double-Skinned Profiled Steel sheet Composite Walls (DPSCWs). Utilizing a dataset of 80 entries, seven input parameters were employed, and various AI techniques, including Linear Regression, Polynomial Regression, Support Vector Regression, Decision Tree Regression, Decision Tree with AdaBoost Regression, Random Forest Regression, Gradient Boost Regression Tree, Elastic Net Regression, Ridge Regression, and LASSO Regression, were evaluated. Decision Tree Regression and Random Forest Regression emerged as the most accurate models. The top three performing models were integrated into a hybrid approach, excelling in accurately estimating DPSCWs' ultimate axial load. This adaptable hybrid model outperforms traditional methods, reducing errors in complex scenarios. The validated Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model showcases less than 1% error, enhancing reliability. Correlation analysis highlights robust predictions, emphasizing the importance of steel sheet thickness. The study contributes insights for predicting DPSCW strength in civil engineering, suggesting optimization and database expansion. The research advances precise load capacity estimation, empowering engineers to enhance construction safety and explore further machine learning applications in structural engineering.
Reinforced concrete (RC) flat slabs should be designed based on punching shear strength. As part of this study, machine learning (ML) algorithms were developed to accurately predict the punching shear strength of RC flat slabs without shear reinforcement. It is based on Bayesian optimization (BO), combined with four standard algorithms (Support vector regression, Decision trees, Random forests, Extreme gradient boosting) on 446 datasets that contain six design parameters. Furthermore, an analysis of feature importance is carried out by Shapley additive explanation (SHAP), in order to quantify the effect of design parameters on punching shear strength. According to the results, the BO method produces high prediction accuracy by selecting the optimal hyperparameters for each model. With R2 = 0.985, MAE = 0.0155 MN, RMSE = 0.0244 MN, the BO-XGBoost model performed better than the original XGBoost prediction, which had R2 = 0.917, MAE = 0.064 MN, RMSE = 0.121 MN in total dataset. Additionally, recommendations are provided on how to select factors that will influence punching shear resistance of RC flat slabs without shear reinforcement.

The availability of high-resolution laser scanning data and advanced machine learning algorithms has enabled an accurate potential rockfall source identification. However, the presence of other mass movements, such as landslides within the same region of interest, poses additional challenges to this task. Thus, this research presents a method based on an integration of Gaussian mixture model (GMM) and ensemble artificial neural network (bagging ANN [BANN]) for automatic detection of potential rockfall sources at Kinta Valley area, Malaysia. The GMM was utilised to determine slope angle thresholds of various geomorphological units. Different algorithms(ANN, support vector machine [SVM] and k nearest neighbour [kNN]) were individually tested with various ensemble models (bagging, voting and boosting). Grid search method was adopted to optimise the hyperparameters of the investigated base models. The proposed model achieves excellent results with success and prediction accuracies at 95% and 94%, respectively. In addition, this technique has achieved excellent accuracies (ROC = 95%) over other methods used. Moreover, the proposed model has achieved the optimal prediction accuracies (92%) on the basis of testing data, thereby indicating that the model can be generalised and replicated in different regions, and the proposed method can be applied to various landslide studies.

Traffic emissions are the main cause of environmental pollution in cities and respiratory problems amongst people. This study developed a model based on an integration of support vector regression (SVR) algorithm and geographic information system (GIS) to map traffic carbon monoxide (CO) concentrations and produce prediction maps from micro level to macro level at a particular time gap in a day in a very densely populated area (Utara-Selatan Expressway-NKVE, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia). The proposed model comprised two models: the first model was implemented to estimate traffic CO concentrations using the SVR model, and the second model was applied to create prediction maps at different times a day using the GIS approach. The parameters for analysis were collected from field survey and remote sensing data sources such as very-high-resolution aerial photos and light detection and ranging point clouds. The correlation coefficient was 0.97, the mean absolute error was 1.401 ppm and the root mean square error was 2.45 ppm. The proposed models can be effectively implemented as decision-making tools to find a suitable solution for mitigating traffic jams near tollgates, highways and road networks.
