Text classification is one of the text mining technologies that classifies a given textual document into its appropriate categories and is used in various fields such as spam email detection, news classification, question answering, emotional analysis, and chat bot. In general, the text classification system utilizes machine learning algorithms, and among a number of algorithms, naïve Bayes and support vector machine, which are suitable for text data, are known to have reasonable performance. Recently, with the development of deep learning technology, several researches on applying deep neural networks such as recurrent neural networks (RNN) and convolutional neural networks (CNN) have been introduced to improve the performance of text classification system. However, the current text classification techniques have not yet reached the perfect level of text classification. This paper focuses on the fact that the text data is expressed as a vector only with the word dimensions, which impairs the semantic information inherent in the text, and proposes a neural network architecture based upon the semantic tensor space model.

This paper presents a method for predicting the threat index of combat systems using Gradient Boosting Regressors and Support Vector Regressors among machine learning models. Currently, combat systems are software that emphasizes safety and reliability, so the application of AI technology that is not guaranteed to be reliable is restricted by policy, and as a result, the electrified domestic combat systems are not equipped with AI technology. However, in order to respond to the policy direction of the Ministry of National Defense, which aims to electrify AI, we conducted a study to secure the basic technology required for the application of machine learning in combat systems. After collecting the data required for threat index evaluation, the study determined the prediction accuracy of the trained model by processing and refining the data, selecting the machine learning model, and selecting the optimal hyper-parameters. As a result, the model score for the test data was over 99 points, confirming the applicability of machine learning models to combat systems.
In this paper, we improve the performance of cardiac disorder classification by continuous heart sound signals using automatic segmentation and extreme learning machine (ELM). The accuracy of the conventional cardiac disorder classification systems degrades because murmurs and click sounds contained in the abnormal heart sound signals cause incorrect or missing starting points of the first (S1) and the second heart pulses (S2) in the automatic segmentation stage, In order to reduce the performance degradation due to segmentation errors, we find the positions of the S1 and S2 pulses, modify them using the time difference of S1 or S2, and extract a single period of heart sound signals. We then obtain a feature vector consisting of the mel-scaled filter bank energy coefficients and the envelope of uniform-sized sub-segments from the single-period heart sound signals. To classify the heart disorders, we use ELM with a single hidden layer. In cardiac disorder classification experiments with 9 cardiac disorder categories, the proposed method shows the classification accuracy of 81.6% and achieves the highest classification accuracy among ELM, multi-layer perceptron (MLP), support vector machine (SVM), and hidden Markov model (HMM).
Purpose Customer Loyalty is the most important factor of customer relationship management (CRM). Especially in retailing industry, where customers have many options of where to spend their money. Classifying loyal customers through customers' data can help retailing companies build more efficient marketing strategies and gain competitive advantages. This study aims to construct classification models of distinguishing the loyal customers within a Korean retailing company using data mining techniques with R language. Design/methodology/approach In order to classify retailing customers, we used combination of support vector machines (SVMs) and other classification algorithms of machine learning (ML) with the support of recursive feature elimination (RFE). In particular, we first clean the dataset to remove outlier and impute the missing value. Then we used a RFE framework for electing most significant predictors. Finally, we construct models with classification algorithms, tune the best parameters and compare the performances among them. Findings The results reveal that ML classification techniques can work well with CRM data in Korean retailing industry. Moreover, customer loyalty is impacted by not only unique factor such as net promoter score but also other purchase habits such as expensive goods preferring or multi-branch visiting and so on. We also prove that with retailing customer's dataset the model constructed by SVMs algorithm has given better performance than others. We expect that the models in this study can be used by other retailing companies to classify their customers, then they can focus on giving services to these potential vip group. We also hope that the results of this ML algorithm using R language could be useful to other researchers for selecting appropriate ML algorithms.
Over the years, several machine learning approaches have been proposed and utilized to create a prediction model for the high-performance concrete (HPC) slump flow. Despite HPC is a highly complex material, predicting its pattern is a rather ambitious process. Hence, choosing and applying the correct method remain a crucial task. Like some other problems, prediction of HPC slump flow suffers from abnormal attributes which might both have an influence on prediction accuracy and increases variance. In recent years, different studies are proposed to optimize the prediction accuracy for HPC slump flow. However, more state-of-the-art regression algorithms can be implemented to create a better model. This study focuses on several methods with different mathematical backgrounds to get the best possible results. Four well-known algorithms Support Vector Regression, M5P Trees, Random Forest, and MLPReg are implemented with optimum parameters as base learners. Also, redundant features are examined to better understand both how ingredients influence on prediction models and whether possible to achieve acceptable results with a few components. Based on the findings, the MLPReg algorithm with optimum parameters gives better results than others in terms of commonly used statistical error evaluation metrics. Besides, chosen algorithms can give rather accurate results using just a few attributes of a slump flow dataset.

There is a growing interest in speaker verification, which verifies someone by his/her voices. There are many speaker vitrification algorithms such as HMM and DTW. However, it is impossible to apply these algorithms to memory limited applications because of large number of feature vectors to register or verify users. In this paper we introduces a speaker verification system using SVM, which needs a little memory usage and computation time. Also we proposed hardware architecture for SVM. Experiments were conducted with Korean database which consists of four-digit strings. Although the error rate of SVM is slightly higher than that of HMM, SVM required much less computation time and small model size.

In this paper, a VoIP-based voice secure telecommunication technology using the text-independent speaker authentication in the telematics environments is proposed. For the secure telecommunication, the sender's voice packets are encrypted by the public-key generated from the speaker's voice information and submitted to the receiver. It is constructed to resist against the man-in-the middle attack. At the receiver side, voice features extracted from the received voice packets are compared with the reference voice-key received from the sender side for the speaker authentication. To improve the accuracy of text-independent speaker authentication, Gaussian Mixture Model(GMM)-supervectors are applied to Support Vector Machine (SVM) kernel using Bayesian information criterion (BIC) and Mahalanobis distance (MD).

The research of climate change impact in hydrometeorology often relies on climate change information. In this paper, neural networks models such as support vector machine neural networks model (SVM-NNM) and multilayer perceptron neural networks model (MLP-NNM) are proposed statistical downscaling of the monthly precipitation. The input nodes of neural networks models consist of the atmospheric meteorology and the atmospheric pressure data for 2 grid points including $127.5^{\circ}E/35^{\circ}N$ and $125^{\circ}E/35^{\circ}N$, which produced the best results from the previous study. The output node of neural networks models consist of the monthly precipitation data for Seoul station. For the performances of the neural networks models, they are composed of training and test performances, respectively. From this research, we evaluate the impact of SVM-NNM and MLP-NNM performances for the downscaling of the monthly precipitation data. We should, therefore, construct the credible monthly precipitation data for Seoul station using statistical downscaling method. The proposed methods can be applied to future climate prediction/projection using the various climate change scenarios such as GCMs and RCMs.
Fog may have a significant impact on road conditions. In an attempt to improve fog predictability in Jeju, we conducted machine learning with various data mining techniques such as tree models, conditional inference tree, random forest, multinomial logistic regression, neural network and support vector machine. To validate machine learning models, the results from the simulation was compared with the fog data observed over Jeju(184 ASOS site) and Gosan(185 ASOS site). Predictive rates proposed by six data mining methods are all above 92% at two regions. Additionally, we validated the performance of machine learning models with WRF (weather research and forecasting) model meteorological outputs. We found that it is still not good enough for operational fog forecast. According to the model assesment by metrics from confusion matrix, it can be seen that the fog prediction using neural network is the most effective method.

In this paper, we present an automatic sentiment classification method for on-line movie reviews that do not contain explicit sentiment rating scores. For the sentiment polarity classification, positive or negative, we use a Support Vector Machine classifier based on syllable kernel that is an extended model of string kernel. We give some experimental results which show that proposed syllable kernel model can be effectively used in sentiment classification tasks for on-line movie reviews that usually contain a lot of grammatical errors such as spacing or spelling errors.
